Fantastic food, always had a beautiful meal here. Service is friendly and welcoming. Beautiful pub. One of my favourites.

Lovely Sunday lunch in the bar area. We hadn’t booked and were lucky to get a table. Great roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Really good service and we will be back with the family. We will make a booking next time too!

The service from all the staff at the Red Lion made our Sunday lunch all the better. You know when you try to catch someone's eye and they are always busy and diverting attention, here the opposite, you only had to turn a head and some one was there to take a drinks order or bring more gravy - everything that makes a meal enjoyable and less stressful - especially for the organiser when you are a table of 12 with 2 birthdays. I don't want to take away from the food and drink aspect, all delicious in everyway. Even custard with apple tart when ice cream was on the menu. Amazing Sunday roast! Great quality meat with a good range of vegetables. It was a huge plateful and all of it was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Cannot fault it!

I have been visiting this pub on occasions since the 1970s and have seen its ups and downs in that time. Today my wife and I decided to bring children and grandchildren for Sunday lunch. As it was Easter I thought it best to liaise early with the venue and dealt with Corinne by email. She was most helpful. The larger part of my group was coming from Hampshire. The remainder, more locally. Pleasingly, everyone managed to arrive almost on time, where we were greeted by Corinne. She took great care to settle us all in, young grandchildren included. Drinks were brought, as were menus, very quickly. Orders were taken as soon as we were ready and Corinne made an especial effort with the young ones. We had a mix of mains from a very good menu. Everyone was very happy with the quality and quantity of the food, which was delivered remarkably quickly. I did not have the roast but those who did were delighted. There was a fine selection of desserts and they were promptly delivered. The restaurant was very busy, as one might expect on Easter Sunday, and seemed to be staffed by very few at front of house. Service was excellent, attentive and very pleasant. Each of my group was complimentary about every aspect of the meal (and the fact the grandad was picking up the tab). So thank you to Corinne and staff for providing a truly excellent experience. Highly recommended.

What a find! A little nervous looking for a new place to eat out after our regular pub changed hands!! We have been made most welcome the food is top notch with specials on the menu which are amazing and the homemade cheesecakes .....oh wow!!!!! I don't want to shout to loudly about the wonderful Red Lion so not being able to get a table.... but it's a must to visit for a drink or meal. Highly recommended 👌

Off the beaten track, this is a good, traditional family pub. Parking on the little roads. Lost a little charm after the fire and refit 20 years ago.

We stumbled across this pub on our way back from the Cotswolds and we are so pleased we did. It was the perfect country pub with exceptional landlady and staff. The food was great, lots of interesting drinks on offer and the staff welcoming and friendly. Felt like a local pub which is great in the height of summer. Well worth a visit!

I have used the Red Lion for over 30 years and can confirm that the current Landlady and Landlord Corrine and Mouse have created the best ambiance I have known and with their Chef Zak are serving food which is of a very high standard

We had an awesome meal in the red lion. Food was really high quality and portion sizes were extremely generous! We felt that it was great value for money too. The standout thing for us was the service though, the waitresses were so attentive despite the pub being really busy. We were so impressed and would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

We popped in for lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being pushy. The food was excellent and freshly prepared. The prices were reasonable and the choices available should satisfy most visitors. The overall ambience was excellent and most customers were clearly regular from the banter with the staff. Had a lovely meal - vegetarian chilli was wholesome, full of fresh vegetables, spiced just right, rice was perfectly cooked and the garlic bread was to die for. Burger was tasty, fresh and presented well. Serving staff were just right. The whole evening was delightful. Would highly recomment.

Lovely new landlord and landlady with a warm welcome, decided to eat even though the pub was busy and had lovely service and food. We will definitely be back and would recommend to everyone to visit this hidden jem!

Our family of 5 enjoyed a wonderful meal here just before the kids headed back to uni. We had not been to The Red Lion for a few years but had heard that Sue was back and we knew we could guarantee a great pub lunch with her back in charge. The menu caters for all tastes – there are impressively several options for veggies, an interesting ‘specials’ menu, and the popular fish and chips, burger, etc. All were homemade, delicious, and very reasonably priced. We were served drinks at the table and all the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Beer drinkers are taken care of with the excellent selection of real ales. We definitely won’t leave it so long before returning to this gem of a village pub.

We visited the Red Lion because we were staying in an Air B and B in the village. We were worried about getting a table when we arrived as it was really busy and we hadn't booked but they kindly fitted us in. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I had a gin and tonic and my husband drank craft beers. My gin had some lovely dried orange pieces in it. The food arrived quickly and was delicious and very filling. Husband had steak pie and I had the vegetarian Wellington. I had a chocolate tart for pudding. The service was really good and we were really embarrassed to discover we didn't have cash for a tip at the end (so sorry!!) The pub itself has so many charming old features and there was a great atmosphere. We live a good two and a half hours away but perhaps we will be back some day!

Fabulous entertainment at the Red Lion last night and great service as always. Thanks to Hot Ashes, the Barbershop Boys and Clive & Jim for an amazing array of musical styles, all so much fun - such talent from these local bands. Thanks also to Sue and her team for the usual warm welcome; a busy night but the service was impeccable. Great that the pub facilitates such brilliant village and community events for us all to gather at and enjoy.

Honestly the worst I have ever been spoken to in a pub. Came for drinks with friends, ordered with the older man at the bar and then paid with the lady, sat down only for the man to practically yell across the relatively busy bar and give a dirty look saying we hadn’t paid for our drinks. When we informed him we paid he responded with “well you haven’t” across the bar. The LOVELY lady came back and informed him we did pay, no apology whatsoever from the rude man. Unlikely to return when he is working, awful customer service & he definitely would not have spoken to us like that if we were mid 40s but clearly he has an issue with young people. As a barmaid myself I really feel his attitude towards us was disgusting, I would never speak to a customer like that and would apologise if I did. It’s a shame to leave a bad review as the landlady is doing a great job, sad this guy let her down massively tonight.

We had the most wonderful lunch back at the Red Lion, returning to see Sue and Bob having been regular visitors when they were last owners. What a truly fabulous meal, clean plates all round , chef did a great job piping hot and very tasty. The deserts are fab and the ice cream delightful. Sue on duty today is a wonderful host and the pub is looking back to its best. The monthly artists work what a great idea. Highly recommend and we will be back. A great place for a lunch or dinner and you are always made so very welcome

We had such a smily welcome from all staff. The food was delicious and we got a seat in the garden in the shade. Be aware though, that it is a popular place so you may need to book. The roast was great, and they did small portions for the children. The pudding choices were so good we took ages to decide! We will be back.

We had lunch with 18 people at the Red Lion after hiking through the Wittenham Clumps. The food was really good and exactly what we needed after all the walking. The service and hospitality was amazing and the Pub stayed open just for us so we could enjoy the sunny terrace a little longer. If you are in the area I definitely recommend stopping by here!

Such a lovely crowd running this place! We arrived in a huge group when the kitchen was just about to close, but the staff made us feel super welcome, treated us with refreshing beer and amazing food (five stars for the halloumi burger). They even skipped their lunch break to be able to host and feed us.

We walked over to Brightwell-cum-Sotwell from Wallingford and stopped here for a bite to eat and some drinks. Excellent real ales, good coffee and smashing well priced food. The hosts know their business and are warm and welcoming as are the other customers, highly recommend.

Pleasant staff, charming building in a beautiful village. Staff were helpful but the meals were a little disappointing. Not enough to complain about but could have been better.

Went on a Sunday with my sister in law for a roast dinner. Very small village pub, garden could do with some investment, parking isn’t great.

It is always a good sign when the local pub is busy (but not crowded) at lunchtime because you know the food and the beer will be good. Enjoyed a well-kept pint of Loddon’s Six Pack, a tasty session blonde, with my fish and chips - both nicely cooked; not greasy as you get in some places. Followed this up with a good portion of Apple Crumble and Custard. A good repast for around £20 to accompany an enjoyable walk in the beautiful scenery of Oxfordshire.

The food was hot, beautifully cooked and tasty, and service came with a smile. Normally this would have resulted in a good review, but we left feeling very disappointed.

We like old pubs. Great to see locals come in with their own beer mugs and the bartender/waitress greet them warmly. Food was tasty and service was prompt and courteous. I had salmon and my husband had the rump steak. Our hotel concierge recommended this place and it is definitely a local’s hang out which was what we wanted.

We found this on our way to the donkey sanctuary and had such a lovely experience. The man who managed the bar was lovely, food was exceptional we were stuck with what to choose! Myself and my partner had a mushroom risotto which was delicious. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food and service!

We had a lovely weekday meal here. I had a lovely bacon chop with a pint of local beer. I'd heartily recommend the place if you are in the area.

We arrived on Friday at opening as we had our 3 year old daughter who needed to be home for bed. We were ignored when we entered until I asked if we could sit to eat. We ordered which was fine, service was polite. Our daughter was brought fish instead of the chicken we ordered, this was sorted quickly. My wife had paper inside her burger but overall food was good. We felt somewhat of a spectacle as server and bar staff were talking and looking over to us. We couldn’t figure out if the issue was our skin colour of fact we were a same sex couple. Dessert menu was lacking, so we asked could we just have one scoop of ice cream for our daughter- they charged us £5 for the three scoops which I thought was overpriced anyway. Over all, not worth it.

Ho ritrovato la cortesia di sempre e la bella accoglienza, ma le proposte sul menu erano inferiori e mi sono sembrate meno appetitose del solito. In ogni caso il pub è caratteristico e vale la pena di farci un salto!

Delightful staff and a real Sunday lunch menu, focussed with 3 roasts and fish dish and a veggie, but not a burger or chips in sight. A real kitchen putting out a fresh menu, rather than relying on the fryer and freezer to bulk it out.

Visited yesterday with my extended family; I’d booked a table having been encouraged by their website. All the staff were very polite and friendly and the garden was perfect with a good mix of sun and shade. Sadly that is where the positives end. My father ordered two different beers to be told both were off. My main criticism is for the Sunday roast: it was cold, the gravy was disgusting, the vegetables weren’t any better and the tiny portion of lamb I got was of extremely poor, over cooked quality. Under no circumstances should it have cost the £13 I was charged for it!

We visited for lunch and sat in the garden, which is a lovely space. Thy have put real effort into the garden which is colourful, a good mix of sunny and shady spots.

6 of us regularly go out for a meal and we like to try different restaurants and Pubs.

We had booked a late lunch for Fathers day and when we arrived, were shown to a good table near the kitchen. It did take a while to get served though, but it was busy, so hey ho. We ran out of drinks, so had to ask the waitress for another order. They came fair enough. By now, the pub had emptied quite a lot, but still no food. When the meals did arrive, it was really good home cooking. Very tasty. Meal ended, pub emptied more, and again we had to ask the waitress for the dessert menu. Ordered desserts and they were good.

We visited this place today and it made us all unhappy.

Quite hard to find in the back roads but worth it when you get there for the thatched roof and low beams. Not a huge menu and nothing wildly inspiring thereon (£11 for fish and chips). But the staff are cheerful and pleasant and the food is well cooked and well presented. Lemonade from a plastic bottle was quite warm, as was the coke. It is clean inside and the small beer garden is well provided with seating. The burning of rubbish in the car park ensured we sat inside, though.

My wife took me for a Birthday Lunch and ordered Dover Sole and Shepard's Pie from the special board. The Sole was fresh and the use of Lamb Shank in the pie was a stroke of genius by the New Chef Charlie Bell. We will be back!! The Duke

A friendly country pub which caters effortlessly for people who just want to drop in for a drink or to have a meal. The pub has a new Head Chef, Charlie Bell, so we decided to pop in for supper. The new menu looked great, but we both opted for the special which was grilled whole lemon sole, with samphire butter and chips. This was cooked to perfection and was utterly delicious, and the best chips we have had in a long time.

Travelled down from london friday night for the fish and chip dinner which was excellent. The owner and staff are very welcoming and inviting. With so much competition around this really is a gem and a must visit country pub. Will be checking the calendar for my next visit.

My friend found this pub as we are looking for places in between where we both work. I found it easily enough and although I arrived in the dark, it does look to be in a pretty setting. We got there a bit early and our table was ready. We each ordered 2 courses and a G&T.; We wanted slimline tonic and the friendly young lady who seated us when we arrive didn't have a problem with translating 'slimline' into 'light' for the brand of tonic they served. Good G&T; to start and then we each chose different things from the relatively small menu. This is pub grub at its most original. The prawn cocktail I had was a bit tiny - more a bed of salad with a few prawns scattered on top. My friend had the beetroot and she said it was ok. I had the burger for my main, which was a generous portion with chips. It was very tasty. My friend had fish and chips which she said was good - but not brilliant. During dinner we asked for more tonic and the gentleman who served us didn't seem to understand what we were after, bringing us full fat twice. The second time we asked for slimline and finally he returned with the lite version served in the bar. I imagine that this pub gets packed at times. It serves basic pub grub and does it well. It felt very much a local boozer, but we were made very welcome. I would have given a four rating had we not had the mix ups over the tonic and the very tiny prawn cocktail. However - the food here WILL fill you up!!

This is a country pub/restaurant in the heart of a very picturesque village. Although quite quiet, a Tuesday evening in the middle of Winter, there was a good ambience, we met the new head chef Charlie Bell and enjoyed very good food from the new menu.

I've always loved the Red Lion, it is a beautiful little pub in a gorgeous sought after village. It's not the biggest of pubs, but therein lies a lot of its charm. You always end up talking at the bar to whoever is there, and the staff are always really friendly and helpful.

The Red Lion is a welcoming village pub with excellent food. The Sunday roasts are delicious and they have lots of daily specials to check out. Local produce beautifully cooked with a warm welcome and roaring fire, what more could you ask for?

Had a family meal here to celebrate my son's birthday. The food was great and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I appreciated the fact that a birthday banner was hung over the table and the music changed to Stevie Wonder's 'Happy Birthday' when the cake came out. Altogether a really enjoyable evening!

Been here a few times when the Red Lion was managed by a previous tenant who served up excellent ales from local microbreweries and good food. Back here staying nearby on holiday and can confirm that both the beer, food (we both had the Red Lion Burger) and welcome are all excellent.

Tasty food and friendly staff , wether to have a drink or to eat. Easy to park near the pub. Will come back again in future.

The staff were friendly and helpful despite the fact that we were nearly an hour later than expected. The food was really good and we will definitely come back for more.

I visited The Red Lion with my Mum and sister when we were in the area for the weekend. We called in for a drink and some lunch - and what a lovely pub it was! The staff were so friendly - the manager was really helpful - rearranged some chairs and a table for us to be able to sit where we wanted and sorted out our drinks.

We have lunched at The Red Lion before and were very pleased. This time it was no different.

Lovely pub lunch after visiting Flatford Mill. Ordered a Huffa which I had never heard of before. Beautiful soft bread roll and very filling. Service was very friendly.

Sin embargo, la lasaña casera era menos agradable; estaba seco y sin sabor, con sabor muy poco. No era lo que esperábamos para el hogar basándose en hechos. Ambas porciones de patatas fritas eran enormes; un desperdicio de comida y la presentación. Desde donde estábamos sentados, el ruido de la cocina con platos ruidos excesivos. Fue realmente Le sugerimos algunos pequeños alteración edificio para reducir el ruido. En general, tuvimos la sensación un poco decepcionados; algunos ajuste haría una gran diferencia.

Metimos en un almuerzo ligero con buen pub - busca amigo. Tenían una concurrida comida con un grupo de una docena en cuanto llegamos. En este encantador pub Bergholt. Passing through area and looking for a country pub for standard fayre. Beautiful, peaceful village with 16th century pub selling all the usual basics you'd expect in a friendly and unpretentious setting. Recommended.

El propietario fue muy amable y nada era demasiado problema. Tuve el solomillo, que era excelente, mi amigo tenía una chaqueta de patatas rellenas de jamón cocinado completo casa. Fuimos a la Red Lion para celebrar un cumpleaños familiar y la mesa estaba reservada para la tarde. El menú era bastante amplia, con una selección de clásicos de pub, varias tartas caseras (con esponja o pasteles) y un shortcrust par de especiales, así como un menú para niños. Tuvimos algo de la mayoría de estas opciones, incluyendo la de niños y todos estábamos muy contentos.
