The Bull on Bell Street in South Oxfordshire

Love this pub and restaurant and totally recommend it, but very dismayed to find they have gone cashless! This is not right and should be addressed.

Choose this restaurant for my birthday lunch having never dined here. Nice atmosphere, unfortunately service spoilt by lack of waiting staff. Also the smell of stale urinals in the gents toilets was a bit over powering especially having to visit during meal. Two attempts at coffee, still served luke warm. Overall a bit of a disappointment for a special day.

We booked a table for 15 people (mix of adults and kids) on Good Friday. We were asked to pre order our food, which was a little annoying but also understandable. The pub reserved a private dining room for us which we thought was a fantastic idea. Unfortunately a few of us were over an hour late due to horrible traffic but the pub staff were very accommodating and allowed us to stay in the room beyond the two hour reservation. Once everyone had arrived we asked for our starters, this took at least 45 minutes to arrive, the same again for the main courses and the desserts. The food was good but not as good as some of the other reviewers have stated. The kids portions were tiny and the desserts were too sweet, particularly the lemon meringue dessert. The pichana steak, although cooked as suggested was very tough to chew, the flavour was nice. We spoke to the waitress who said if it is sliced in a different direction it would be less chewy!!! If that was the case then the chef should slice it before serving! The waitress asked if we wanted a replacement dish but the food had already taken so long, we were hungry so we persevered! I appreciate that we were late but the kitchen was informed and they knew what we had ordered, we felt like they had forgotten about us most of the time. We don’t live in the area so we won’t be going back!

Samantha, Sophia and the rest of the team hosted our club for drinks after our annual club dinner. Fantastic organisation and co operation with us to make the event run smoothly. The staff were brilliant with excellent service, we had rented out the outside area of the bar where we had a DJ, plenty of space and heaters to keep us warm! A very aesthetic outdoor area perfect for events like this. As a club we would like to say a massive thank you on behalf of everyone, hopefully we can come again as it was an amazing experience! Thank you very much again to the team at the bull!

Served by Josh today. Really superb service from this young man. Friendly, engaging, great communication skills. A natural and relaxed style combined with genuine care for good customer service. Sadly, skills that seem to be rarely found in many hospitality outlets these days. Well done Josh and good luck with your career! As a side note I have assessed service and quality in hospitality and tourism worldwide for 13 years for a living....so hope my comments come with some credentials. Other staff today were also friendly and professional. An outstanding pub with staff to match....well done!

Visiting Henley and had great service

Called in on Saturday afternoon hoping dog friendly. We were four adults and four dogs (two of them huge!!). Place was very busy but they put themselves out to accommodate us to the extent that one drink turned into several and meals. Staff, food, atmosphere and prices were all brilliant. Words really don’t do the Bull justice absolutely outstanding.

The octopus in romescu sauce was very tender and flavoursome . Brazilian steak was very tender and excellent taste . Boys loved the sticky toffee pudding . Sophia was very friendly and attentive . Good evening had by all

Our waiter, Stef, was delightful and attentive. The squid starter is spectacular, almost a meal in itself. The chicken and chorizo burger was served with the freshest tomato I’ve had in England in years, and the chicken fillet was succulent and cooked to perfection. Full marks to the Bull and to Stef. Food is always great. Bar is a bit pricey but the vibes make up for it. Had a 30th birthday party here last year, and it was a good event. Food for the event wasn’t nearly enough for the number of people I had ordered it for, and I ended up ordering more food for everyone on the night.

We were meeting friends for a celebration lunch and The Bull was the ideal venue. We were greeted and shown our table and when seated attended to very courteously by Seff and Holly. The meals were excellent and we had plenty of time to eat and socialise before going our separate ways.

We had a lovely time last night (2ndFeb24). I had sirloin steak on the bone, medium and it was absolutely fantastic. My husband had rump steak, which he said was very good. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We were served by the lovely Chloe who was efficient, attentive and professional. We will be back next week. Thank you for the great service.xx

Comfortable warm, modern, great menu at good price, service from Maddie was friendly, keen and welcoming. A bonus is that parking is close, just a couple of minutes walk to this wonderful town centre restaurant.

The falafel salad was not worth the £14.95- 3 tiny bits of bought in falafel balls on a bed of salad and very little hummus. Charged £1.50 for dry flat bread. When I said I wasn’t impressed by the lack of falafel the waitress did nothing to fix this. My friend’s chicken salad, made to order, looked the same but with a massive portion of chicken breast, at the same price. The pub looks lovely, very botanical, but there was hardly a soul in the pub- not their fault, but it lacked atmosphere as the few of us who were there were all spread out.

Brilliant Sunday lunch. Large table of 9 with two children and a baby and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Great variety of food across all 3 courses - would recommend for any occasion.

A delicious, pre cinema meal at The Bull on Bell Street. The food was excellent and there was a separate menu for the guest who was GF. The welcome was warm and the service top class. I don't know the name of the waitress who was lovely and she was ably assisted by Max who was charming! Will definitely be returning.

Went in for an afterwork drink and burger with friends and had one of if not the best experiences in Henley. Tommy greeted us with a smile on his face and engaged in a very welcoming conversation with us after which we knew we came to the right place. We asked him about the menu and he made some very good recommendations to each of us! The drinks were perfect, no complaint there and the food came out after a reasonable wait and we were more than satisfied. Definitely recommend, will be back more often!

Really lovely pub with a great mix of people, families, and dogs welcome. Great selection of beers and wine, food was very good indeed.

Firstly we were seated in the garden room but with the pianist, it was just a little too loud to have a conversation, so following a request, we were able to move to the dining room which was far better for us. Emma served us with great humour and attention and made our Sunday roast even better with that experience.

The staff were exceptionally helpful with our large party and made it a really special occasion. Everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Emma had a very friendly aura and welcomed us immediately with the offer of water with a beaming smile. The food was outstanding and came quickly with no problems. Emma was helpful and even humerus when asked for recommendations and made the overall experience an enjoyable one

My husband and I came in for a late lunch. The whole place was so warm and inviting, the menu looked great. Its xmas time so very xmas and beautifully decorated. We were sat at a lovely table. It took our server forever to take our order, we waited 45 minutes for our food. No explanation as why it took so long as they didn't seem very busy. If we had been alerted, we probably would not have stayed. Our food came finally. My husband's was really good, he had pizza. Mine on the other hand was really not good. Ordered the Wagyu burger Medium. Got a dry, overcooked hockey Puck. For £17!. Decided not to leave a tip as the service was as lacklustre as my food. Will not return. Too bad, as its a really lovely space.

Spent Christmas Day at this wonderful location with 11 family and friends. Beautifully decorated with fantastic service by the lovely Stef and other colleagues. Food was fabulous. Will definitely return again.

Went to the bull for a work Christmas meal and my experience was rather lacking. The food was not to my taste. the only vegetarian option was a vegan Wellington off the set Christmas menu and was a beetroot wrapped in pastry. The veg and potatoes came out cold too. The service was shocking, the server was more interested in getting the tables drinks order in, the food was served over an hour after we arrived and not one employee checked in after the food was served and also no one asked why I had left almost an entire meal on my plate. I've give 4 stars for atmosphere because it was a work event, my colleagues made it enjoyable for me. I was not impressed! And will not be returning.
