We had a really enjoyable evening. Our waiter helped each of us (family of 4) through the menu options so we all ended up with exactly the flavours/spice we wanted. Starters and sides were great. Draft Cobra excellent! Would recommend

Two of us had a lovely meal here. From entering, the service was brilliant. Waiters were very attentive and cheerful. The food was great, portions brilliant, food was hot, fresh and very tasty. We couldn't manage all the food but they bagged it in takeaway boxes for us. They even tolerated my partner trying to be annoying. Nothing was a problem for them. Definitely 5 stars *****

Covid was a difficult time however Kay and his team have done so well in stabilizing both staff and the quality of food. I am diabetic and the chef goes out of his way to assist my needs whereby to add zero sugar to my food without compromising the quality of taste. The food is outstanding and this restaurant has made a wonderful come back. They are polite, professional and it is our favorite place to eat.

We tend get take aways but despite the exterior in need of a bit of TLC, the interior is very nicely laid out and the staff are always welcoming. So welcoming in fact that I just have to walk in and my pre-ordered takeway just appears with a few nice greetings from familiar staff. My wife and I have lived in Cholsey since 2001 and must have had takeaways from this restaurant hundereds of times. It has changed hands at least twice over the years and the food has varied from not so great to excellent during that time. I am pleased to say that the current chef does a great job at our favourite prawn dhansak and chicken pathia dishes, in fact the best in the whole of the Wallingford area by a long way. We have tried these dishes in most of the Wallingford based restaurants but none taste as good as the recipe they use here. We have also eaten within the restaurant in the past, but due to our general lifestyle that tends to be on special occassions such as birthdays etc. They do run limited staff sometimes, but that has never affected the speed and efficiency of their service. We have treated ourselves to explore other dishes within their quite extensive menu on occassion and have never been dissapointed, so this is a restaurant that is well worth a visit.

Not usually a reviewer but as a Cholsey villager I feel compelled in this case after the worst takeaway experience we’ve ever had. Arrived to collect our takeaway to join a queue of angry customers waiting over an hour for theirs. We were fobbed off and lied to (you are next, just another 5 mins etc). Manager was out doing deliveries and then returned to cook in the kitchen. Soon those in the restaurant were also waiting 1 hour+ for food. Other takeaway customers were returning to complain of missing items. Finally received our food after 90 minutes (plus the 50 minutes since ordering). At least it was hot but the taste was really very average. As we were hosting friends it was a huge frustration. The manager complained of being short-staffed etc but as others have pointed out this situation has occurred repeatedly here since reopening. Some of the 5* reviews must have been visiting somewhere else. It’s sad that these guys can’t get it right, the village deserves some operators that can. Don’t waste your time or money - go to the many better options in Wallingford instead.

To begin, the food was fine, however the service was appalling. I understand if you’re short staffed (a common issue with this venue from previous visits), but there’s clearly an issue with how the place is run. It took over an hour to get 3 starters and nearly 2 and a half hours to get mains, by which time the table of 6 next to us walked out after waiting nearly 2 hours for their starters, a further table walked out after ordering their food to then be told nearly 90 minutes later that the kitchen was out of vegetables. All the while we watched take out after take out be ordered and dispatched. I get that takeaways are a big part of their business but when you sacrifice your in-house service and the availability of food for people actually in your premises for it, then it’s a big issue. Which leads us onto our table where, nearly 2 and a half hours in and after chasing to find out what was happening, we were told that one of the dishes could not be done, as they brought out the other 6. They also had no naans left (they did when we’d ordered all that time before) . So you knew you couldn’t do it when you started cooking the other dishes but left no time to get a replacement cooked by asking the question at that point. We shared our food eventually so all could eat something. You can’t treat in-house guests like second class customers, it’s just not right. You also, as the manager did, try to throw the new guy out front under the bus and, when that didn’t work, then try to do the same with the chef. A free round of drinks was offered, but turned down as we were all fairly sick of it by then. We’d arrived at 7pm to eat, we left at 9:45pm thoroughly unimpressed. As I said, the food tastes fine, the service is just awful. This place needs to make a decision on whether it just focusses on one or the other, as they’re clearly not capable of currently doing both. I don’t know if it’s new management or staff, but it’s a real shame as we’ve used it a lot in the past and the service was great, but will no longer do so due to our more recent experiences.

Went with group of friends for a sit-down meal and whilst the food was fine (tasty but not particularly memorable), the experience was let down massively by the service and time taken to get the food. We got our initial drinks and poppadoms with chutneys pretty much within seconds of sitting down, however then waited over an hour for our food. We chased them up twice (including the second time when we were verging on leaving) and it should be noted it was us who were doing this - there was no approach from the staff towards us or apology offered. Looking around the dining room it did appear the service did just grind to a halt in that time with no food brought out for about 45 mins to anyone. What i did note though is that some takeaway orders were being fulfilled (cant really argue they ordered before us as we arrived within 30 mins of the restaurant opening). I could put this all down to a one-off and think they had a staffing issue maybe but the last time we went before it was temporarily closed we had exactly the same experience! Also whilst the interior areas are nice and well decorated the outside is a bit of a state with paint and wood peeling away and litter on the ground around the door and car park.

Well it was a special birthday and the only way to really celebrate it was to have a good curry. If you like really refined and well cooked Indian cuisine, then the Memories of Bengal in Cholsey is the place to come to. After a period of dormancy last year it has been reacquired by a small group of enthusiastic partners determined to make the business work. This is reflected in the excellence of the food as the chef is one of the new owners, determined to give his customers a real treat. So the evening was perfect with excellent food and this new incarnation of The Memories of Bengal arguably produces the best Indian food in the Wallingford area.

Memories of Bengal is of the best Indian restaurants in South Oxfordshire. So pleased it’s reopened! Its dishes are good value and delicious - you can’t go wrong with any of them. And the service is great. I went last week and had prawn xacuti, and coconut rice, which I had never tried before but was superb. I’ve had Indian meals all over the UK, including Michelin-starred restaurants, and been going to Memories of Bengal for ten years. It’s up there with the best. I always try something different every time and have never had a bad meal there. Times are tough for independent restaurants, so support them if you can. Welcome back Memories!

Absolutely delighted that Memories of Bengal has reopened in Cholsey. It’s been much-missed in the village whilst it was closed. The food - as always - is excellent. We started with a couple of Indian restaurant classics - onion bhaji & vegetable samosas. Bhaji’s crisp and tasty and wonderfully spiced. Samosa’s packed with deliciousness - yum! For our mains, I had the Mirchi Chicken Tikka with keema naan, my wife had the Prawn Xacuti dish with coconut rice, and we had a side of another classic, a vegetable curry. It was fantastic. I’ve never found the Mirchi Tikka on any other Indian restaurant menu and it’s by far my favourite dish of all time. Essentially a really spicy hot chicken tikka - served on the traditional sizzling skillet with fried onions. Yes please!!! Keema naan dipped in the vegetable curry - cor! All round a fantastic meal, washed down with a couple of Cobras. They currently have prides set really low also to get people back in so we’ll worth a trip. They’ll soon be changing the menu - please keep the Mirchi Chicken Tikka on there guys!!

We couldn’t actually eat it. We didn’t get popadoms and salad which comes with order. AVOID THEM! They are the only Indian in Cholsey that’s the reason they treat customers like that and deliver very poor quality food as they know they the only one in the area and people will keep coming back. No competition make you see their true colours. Those people run the restaurant only for profit not passion. Plus they very stingy. The man who delivers stupidly keeps asking if we’ve paid for the order on delivery as he think we may foolishly pay him twice!!! Absolutely ‘AGLY’ family running this business! We chose main courses of Kashmiri Chicken and Hari Mirchi Bhuna with side orders of Brinjal Bhaji, Kudo Bhaji, Pilau rice and Peshwari nan. All of the dishes were excellent, in particular the vegetable dishes were a revelation. So nice to discover cooking of this standard where there are knowledgeable chefs who know how to prepare dishes that are individual in character and sensitively created. The waiting staff were polite, efficient and constantly scanning guests to make sure all was in order - so much better than the unseeing gaze of waiting staff in most restaurants. He was always a massive part of the community but went above and beyond during the awful times of covid/lockdowns Sadly our dear friend Hasnath developed his own health problems We lost him In his memory family now run Indian Dream They deserve our support to keep Hasnath's Dream alive You are guaranteed superb food and an authentic Indian experience Rest in peace dear friend You are truly missed

The food was excellent, big portions, good prices. LOVED the king prawn puri, it was amazing, so flavourful and big it could have been a main. We ate inside, didn't do takeaway, somehow hadn't tried it yet after years in Didcot.
