Another excellent dining experience in Cholsey. With this place and Memories of Bengal you're spoilt for choice. Once again, they never let us down, so we'll keep going back.

Consistently great food, always freshly cooked and flavoursome. William is always friendly and chatty, you can also grab a beer while you wait ! No 1 Chinese in the Didcot area without a doubt !!

Shame this is no longer a restaurant and only a takeaway. The food is the best I've had from a Chinese. High taxes forced them to close the restaurant. Such a shame.

I don't think you can dine in, it's take-away only. The food is delicious for a reasonable price and the staff are helpful and efficient. I'd recommend it.

It was very quiet as its no longer a restaurant! We don't live around here but it was the closest Chinese to where we are staying, the gentleman on desk was polite and listened well to our requests the food was really delicious.. .. honestly the noodles are the best we hsve tasted and the beef with mushrooms was amazing we had other dishes that were delicious too! We will be stopping by agsin before we go home!! This Chinese does lively food 😋

Worse Chinese take-away I've ever had. The food was not tasty and not very fresh either. Also I ordered some food but they gave me something else which was a huge issue as they gave me something I have allergic. I could have been sick because of them... Luckily I found it before eating. When I told them they didn't care and completely ignored me. I will never come again and I suggest you to find somewhere else to eat because it's not safe, food is bland and the service is really horrible.

A really, really good Chinese restaurant, though now takeaway only, I believe. You'll have to travel a fair distance to find better than this. I highly recommend to one and all; superb and delicious cuisine.

Great tasting food, just excellent! We buy extra takeaway to have the next day (saves us a journey) because it's so good, even reheated in the mic it still tastes great! Well done Shanki-Li Chef's, your the best...

Great food last night (Saturday 18th Feb 2023) we had a family takeaway. New to the area so checked reviews of local takeaways and this place had the highest. Lovely tasting food, now absolutely our new Chinese Takeaway. Keep it up please Shanki-Li.

One word to describe this takeaway: thieves, I think... I am so disappointed by Shangki Li! I ordered here one week ago, everything in king prawn version as I don't eat meat. The food (chow mein and fried rice) was good but unfortunately they gave me sweet and sour KH balls style filled with chichken instead of king prawn. The same night, I sent them a message on whatsapp to politly ask for a refund or a voucher for this item. The person told me that the manager was not here tonight but he will text me back the following day. OK no problem, but... one week later I was not texted back, and they even deleted the message from the chat... 1/ They are very inattentive or purposely serve meat to non-meat eaters (it happened to me only 2 times, in hundreds of restaurants) 2/ They are simply thieves, not refunding customers when they obviously made a mistake 3/ Even worst, they are liars (as if I didn't know the "Delete for everyone" in whatsapp... lol) So congratulations Shangki Li, you easily made it to my top 10 of the worst "restaurants" worldwide!

We had heard that there was a Chinese in our village, so figured we should give it a try. Food was ordered easily over the phone, and the young man that took the order was so polite and pleasant. I walked down to collect my order. The same young man who I spoke to was there waiting for me. Such a lovely young man. We had a loverly long chat, and he wished that my food would be to my expectations. It went way beyond that. Literally the best Chinese meal we've ever had. Perfectly cooked and so deliciously tasty, and generous portions, and at a very reasonable price. We will not use anyone else now after this wonderful meal. Thank you so much.

Very nice food for a takeaway is definitely one of the nicer Chineses in the area only problems being is the food can be very salty witch can leave you feelings very thirsty and I wish they would reopen the restaurant, I don’t know if it’s to do with staffing issues or not be otherwise very good

This was without doubt the most disgusting version of this soup I have ever had. The soup was as if hot water had been poured over tom yum paste, but had no flavour and no spice, to which had been added one prawn, one chewy, tough mussel and chunks of what seemed like gristle, which I suppose was octopus. I had to throw it away. Having eaten here once before and had not been impressed, we thought we would just try the soup this time, but were not just disappointed by it, but disgusted. I have never been prompted to write a bad review before.

Excellent, great taste, reasonably priced and ready for collection when they said it would be. Would thoroughly recommend for take away (have not eaten in).

We live in Wallingford but always drive out to Cholsey to get our Shangki-Li takeaway. Always ready on time, delicious and not at all sloppy. Love it.

The best Chinese food I’ve had around here by far - crispy chilli beef was a particular highlight!

Delicious takeaway and quality meat (which you often don’t get in takeaways). Generous portions and very reasonably priced. They look to have taken very good precautions in the current crisis too and facilitate a contactless pick up. The only downside is that their website is broken so you can’t see the menu at the moment.

Recommending their barbeque roast pork which is apparently made in house. The staff is attentive and warm. Writing this review makes me want to visit the restaurant soon!

Visited today for the 1st time following recommendations from 2 friends- upon arrival the entrance was not as I was expecting (above Tescos Express, up a gloomy looking staircase) BUT we decided to persevere. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman who showed us to a table (across a weirdly sticky carpet) and brought over the menus with the standard prawn crackers and dipping sauce. The tables and chairs were beautifully decorated and clean however the place could do with a lick of paint and a better heating system installed- we were cold for the majority of our visit - next visit we will wear extra layers. We ordered drinks and a selection of appetisers which arrived piping hot (see picture) they were absolutely amazing, just the right amount for 2 people and very flavoursome. We then had the duck and pancakes which again were amazing and perfect portion size. By this point were getting full so choosing the 3 main courses were a bit of a task - I was extremely grateful that when they arrived they weren’t massive portions as they probably would not have all got eaten. We had a chicken, beef and prawn main course which came with noodles and very eggie egg fried rice - simply delicious! We finished the meal with ice cream as we were so full which on reflection was nice BUT made us colder. The bill was very reasonable for the quality of the food and service we received - we will definitely be returning customers. The only thing for me that lets it down is the temperature in the restaurant - it was uncomfortably cold

My Son Lee took me to the Shangki Li restaurant on 31st of October for a Birthday treat, it was superb, the food was top class, the service was top class, if it were possible I would rate it as 6 stars, I would definitely highly recommend it to anybody

Wonderfully friendly team serve up a waist-expanding all you can eat chefs recommended banquet filled with some 8 generously sized starters and 3 main courses for a measly sum. Quality and flavours are great. A spacious and clean dining room add to the experience. A rare and out-of-the-way little gem!

Came to the restaurant with my friends. We order the all you can eat. Food was great and good service considering it was full. My friends and myself really like the sizzling lamb, by the time we finish main courses. We were too full so we skip dessert. It was a great experience for us, we will definitely come back here again.

First time trying this for takeaway and assumed the food would be good especially due to the higher than average price. Very basic food, very gloopy and worst of all two of us were ill for a week after eating the horrid tasting squid and sweet and sour king prawns. I’d never eat here again and appalled at the quality and what was obviously undercooked or outdated food. Shocking.

This is a very good restaurant in the countryside above the Coop. It is a very busy place so booking is advised. The food is very good and plentiful and you can eat as much as you like on every course. It is also very reasonably priced.

Reasonable, filling food, big portions, very reasonable price.

A meal for 3 of us cost £70.00. The resteraurant was tatty, damp walls, great lumps out of the plaster. Reminded me of the poorer quarters of Shanghai. Very very depressing start. The waiter spoke little English and twice we had to order our main course. The meat was cooked to oblivian, greasy rice and green congealed curry hiding lumps of chicken. Everything we ordered was twice or three times cooked and more. The puddings. I had five tinned lychee on a bed of ice cubes, and when I asked if the waiter could take them away he then brought me another glass full of ice. No one asked if we liked the meal, no one asked for feedback.A truly dreadful experience.

This use to be mine and my families favourite place to come before they changed hands. I don’t know what the new owners have done to it!? The prices have gone up but the food quality has seriously gone down. It’s some a shame as it has to be a real gem.

The modern britchink has split in to sectors, among which are the big city high cost splendid cuisine, a new market with its own new patrons. Thank goodness for them. But some of us like to dine out weekly, or even more frequently, and the £30-60 per head pleasures are infrequent, even if you earn the salary of an SNCF TGV chaffeur.

My Husband arranged a surprise 50th Birthday get-to-gether at Shanki-li on Saturday evening for me;with the help of Felix.There were 22 people in our party and from the minute we walked in the door;nothing was too much trouble.The food was amazing as it always is and everyone commented on how lovely it was. The small details make such a difference from the table settings to the helpfulness of the staff and of course Felix. Thankyou everyone for making it such a special evening for myself;my family and friends;we will be back soon xxx

Food has improved since we came last year. Interesting vegetarian menu which we didn't know they had. Need to ask for it.

We have not been here for nearly 2 years. Our choice as we do love Indian, Thai and Italian too etc.

We tried Shangki-Li after just moving to the area and liked the fact you can have the all you can eat option.

Not as good as it used to be - everything seems to be fried and filling in the oily kind of way - but plenty to choose from

I shouldn’t eat ‘ersatz’ food and with this takeaway we actually couldn’t. Vegan crispy duck was some soft lumps of stuff; veg satay little lumps of stuff in an over-sweet sauce; spring rolls were good though. Boiled rice was fine. Veg Singapore noodles a strange colour and over-spiced with not much of interest in it. King prawns in a gloopy sauce. Family bean curd possibly ok but couldn’t eat as so unappetised by rest of food. What has happened? Why so much sugar in the satay?

I have been working in the area so gave this place a try. The service was really friendly and quick and the food was delicious and perfectly presented. It was so good in ended up eating here 3 nights on the bounce. If it am ever back in the area is will be eating here again.

We always love the Shangki Li. The staff are so friendly and they are amazing with our toddler. They have several high chairs but they were also happy for her to attempt to sit on a big chair! They gave us advice on different options to try and gave us information on where they originate from and little snippets of Chinese food info. They are attentive without suffocating you which is sometimes hard to get right. The food is an all you can eat but made fresh to order which means the food is always really really yummy! Genuinely can't recommend enough!

Takeaway on Saturday 26th May. I wondered why on Saturday night, when I collected a takeaway, there were lots of empty tables in the restaurant. Now I know why-the food is awful. The half of crispy duck must have been cooked for several customers before us and was tough,tasteless and the skin was soggy. The pancakes came in 2 plastic bags and were fairly insipid. The 3rd course consisted of 2 large prawns in some tomato sauce (King Prawn Ha Suey) The 3 courses cost £29.60 for 2 people.

Visited The Shangki-Li having not visited for years, but hearing that it had changed hands we thought we’d give it a try.

After the 4 star review on trip advisor we thought we would visit on a Saturday night for the all you can eat menu (£18ish each, £1 extra for duck and pancakes). Good, efficient service but the food was a real disappointment. Such a shame as the reviews we had read were mostly positive. Smoked chicken good but ribs had very little meat on the and were only about 6cm long, salt and pepper prawns tasted of nothing but batter and the prawn toast looked very sad. Crispy duck has very little meat and looked like the scraps of the leftovers from someone else’s plate. Main course of sweet and sour pork ok, but beef in black bean was not nice, thick glutinous sauce unlike anything I’ve seen before - we left this. Rice congealed into the shape of the bowl and came lukewarm. I’ve had much better Chinese meals in the local area (Pangbourne and Goring especially) and would rather go back there, pay a couple of pounds more for a higher quality of food. We ignored the fact this restaurant also had a food hygiene rating of 1! Such a shame as the reviews suggested that this was a great place to go - maybe we went on an ‘off’ night...!

Everyone has the 'eat all you like' standard meal. Its very good and despite being under new management the standard hasn't slipped. Remember to ask for the salt&pepper; prawns as they are fabulous! Try to resist stuffing yourself on the delectable starters as the mains are also very good indeed. If possible keep a small space for banana or apple fritters and sorbet to finish.

We rang through for a takeway and were told our food woule be readyvin 35 minutes,when we got there we waited a further 15 minutes for it to be ready.

90% of the time Excellent food bur occasionly food standards slip as if a different chef and food becomes very average. Could also do with writing down your order as some times forget bits. But overall an excellent Chinese restaurant. One of the best I have eaten at.

Not your typical Chinese restaurant. It looks like a residential flat from the outside, and inside is just as weird - it's like someone's home. Tables are too close together and its hard to have a conversation when the place is busy. The food is mediocre at best. All the vegetarian dishes taste almost identical and not all that inspiring, or cheap. The service, however, is good.

Really friendly staff and the starters are awesome. I would quite happily just sit there munching away on the crispy lamb, smokey chicken and honey roast pork for the £18 😂

We went to the Shangki-Li for a small family gathering of 5 adults. The main focus at the restaurant is on the 'eat-as-much-as-you-can' menu for an inclusive price of £18.90. You must have at least 2 people wanting the feast to be able to order it. The food is ok but not special with the emphasis on quantity not quality. You can have a starter and mains dishes for less than the feast menu and get dishes that you want which aren't on the all inclusive menu. There are some nice inexpensive wines on the wine list. Saturday night appears to be family party night so there were kids running around and shouting most of the time, which would have ruined it for couples looking forward to a romantic meal for two. The main appeal here is the convenience for local customers.
