Famous House in South Oxfordshire

Ordered a Takeaway for a certain time, when we got there it was not ready, had to wait over half an hour. When we got home, they had given us wrong food and no prawn balls. The meal was really awful, we have used this Takeaway several times in the past and it was fine. NEVER AGAIN. No point complaining as we had done a 12 mile round trip to get there. Very disappointed.

Really impressed with this local Chinese. Efficient ordering service, friendly staff and the food eas delicious.

This is a takeaway and hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. The food here is great though very tasty and very generous portions. Not keen on the sweet and sour sauce which tastes very vinegar like and is watery, but otherwise a good Chinese takeaway

Friendly, clean but mostly the food was great. Special chow mien was loaded with fresh and very well cooked ( not overcooked) vegetables .. .. the beef and chicken in the dish were beautiful. We has duck too and it was the best breast, not fatty bits like you often get.. no too salty, seasoned just right.. Really impressed! Thank you

Very poor. Used to really rate this place and hadnt been for a while. Salt and Chilli squid hard and overcooked. Duck fatty and more skin than meat. Chicken in Chow Mein again hard and overcooked. Total seemed pricey and sadly will not return.

I called to order a meal and got a recorded message saying they're closed and will re-open in September. Luckily found a better takeaway in Wellington Street.

Really poor food that is tasteless. The people of Thame must not have tastebuds.

Disappointed. Friendly pleasant staff but half of the food was extremely disappointing. Rice was was terrible and the crispy chicken was horrendous. This would have been quite expensive even if it had been nice but as it was, I certainly wouldn't bother. Definitely wouldn't go back.

Best Chinese food in Thame. Always delicious and great service.

My first time trying this place, Wow I had the fried Chili Beef, I've had this dish in many other restaurants, but this was exceptionally good, great level of spiciness, great flavours, can't wait to try other dishes.

The Famous House was recommended by a friend who, like us, is a big fan of Chinese food so we thought we would give it a try. From the outside, it looks like a typical a typical Chinese takeaway but the welcome inside was very friendly. The menu is wide ranging and caters for all tastes and the food is freshly cooked and not reheated pre-prepared far. When we got it home it was nicely prepared and very tasty and worth the foot mile drive.

Great food! Definitely recommend however they don’t take card payments, kinda frustrating however there are plenty of ATMs around the town that are easily accessible. Staff are friendly and kind. Depending what time service can be slow due to amount of orders and lack of staff however they try their best! Always best to phone up for the order.

Enjoyed my takeaway meal from Famous House. Meal ready for collection at the specified time. NB take cash as no credit card machine.

Rubbish!! Ordered pancake rolls! Got 4 small spring rolls ' No Meat! & cold in the middle! All for a Whopping £4.20p Rip Off! & Poor!!

Decided to try this place for the first time - will certainly be my last visit. whilst collecting my meal, staff member was being very rude to a customer who had returned his meal due to poor quality. she was shouting at him and saying they would not refund him. Upon trying my order of Chicken satay, I can totally see why the customer wanted a refund. Watery sauce, no flavour. Added a lot of soy sauce at home to make it taste of anything.

Without a doubt, the very worst takeaway I’ve ever bought. Notice I don’t say ‘eaten’.....the prawn toast was only just passable but the rest was quite vile. We returned all of it, except the toast we’d eaten, and received precisely £3 from a £20 order . Very rude dismissive service and food I wouldn’t give to my worst enemy

Waited 30 minutes to be handed someone else’s order. Waited to pay and was then told it was someone else’s order. Handed it back and waited again. After another few minutes was told that they had not put my order through to the kitchen so would have to wait even longer. Asked for a refund and left. All in all a waste of time in a freezing cold waiting area. Will never go here again and would advise anyone not to visit.

The one thing Thame was missing was amazing Chinese food. This wrong has been righted. Amazing food!!

The wait here can sometimes be rather long, for no obvious reason and sometimes one of the girls working there gets very confused - resulting in wrong dishes in your takeaway. That being said, they are always very helpful and friendly in sorting the problem out and the food is always lovely.

Food is very freshly cooked and served. Staff are helpful and friendly. Seating while you wait with a range of reading material. Would choose this takeaway over any other locally.

Chicken chow main was delicious along with the sweet and sour chicken balls best Chinese in Thame by far

Walked in tonight on a Sunday. There was someone waiting for there order as we walked in. 20 minutes later they were still there waiting for there order. Thinking I would be in and out within 15 minutes no. 45 minutes later my food arrived. They only took one telephone order when I was there so not busy. Kept asking how long it would be the answer was 5-10 minutes. No one else came in to collect there takeaway while I was there. No explanation or apology which was disappointing. And to top it off squid was over cooked and main course was very salty. Won't be going back.

Found slices of chicken in our vegetarian/ Vegan dishes .

Of the three dishes I ordered here, only one was good, one was poor and the other was terrible. I know some people do like Famous House, so it can't be all bad, but for me there are better Chinese takeaway options in Thame.

Really good Chines food BUT was a really long wait for it. Ordered at 18.20 and told collect at 19.40 and still not ready until after 8!! Plan ahead.....

This is our usual takeaway whenever we want a Chinese meal. Very quick and efficent on phone orders and the food is better than the other takeaways in our opinion. not been disappointed yet, happy to receommend

This meal was absolutely delicious - first time using this restaurant. there was a large amount of food.

Comida excelente, el personal era fantástico - en general, estuvimos muy satisfechos con nuestra comida para llevar de la famosa casa. Sí errores no suceda, ya que todos somos humanos, pero es cómo están solucionados con que marca un lugar aparte de otros. Llamó orden en nuestro camino de vuelta a casa desde lejos, y listo cuando llegamos.

I tried here because I heard from a friend that it was good. I only ordered a Hot and Sour soup, just as a snack. It was very good. I think we'll be ordering a take away from there next time.

Great quality takeaway, good portions and reasonable prices. You could taste the different flavours unlike some over processed bulk products. First time I havent woken at 3am gasping for water. Low MSG as others observe for a pleasant change.

Since the sad demise of our more local takeaway we decided to try The Famous House a little further afield..... We were not dissapointed and well worth the 15 minutes either way travelling. As I am diabetic they were happy to 'go easy' on the sugar and salt, where possible, with our order as any restaurant worth their reputation should - a definite plus point and you could tell that they had done as requested. Very tasty food freshly prepared. As mentioned a few times there can be a bit of a wait at very busy times but still not too much of a problem if you are prepared. Friendly and helpful 'front of house' folk. Will be going again for sure.. Beef was very tender and the chicken like chicken not some squished together gloop that you sometimes get that does not resemble the texture of chicken in the faintest.

When we came to Thame a couple of years ago, we set about trying out all the local takeaway food suppliers. We had come from an area richly served by good outlets and expected to be hard pushed to do as well in Thame. The famous House had recently taken over an existing business and we were absolutely delighted with its offering. I believe it to be the best Chinese takeaway I have tried (and I had my first Chinese meal nearly 70 years ago !). You may have to be prepared for a bit of a wait, because they're very successful and very busy, particularly at the weekends.

this is the best Chinese takeaway I have had. The food is fresh, well cooked, and a very good varied menu we have had a meal for 4 and a meal for 2 both times it was excellent .will definitely continue to use it. well done

I had to wait one hour for my food while watching other people come in and out with theirs. This has happened in the past and I have thought that they must be busy or maybe like to take care of telephne orders first.

Full range of dishes, including excellent chips (!) beautifully cooked. Thoroughly recommended for just two or a large family party. We had our usual selection and would say they were the best we have ever enjoyed.

Tried all of the Chinese takeaways in this area over the past year or so and this one is head and shoulders above the rest. The quality is excellent (not too MSG laden) and portions are a good size. Food has always been hot and service friendly. Would recommend.

This has to be the best takeaway by far in Thame. The quality and quantity of food was excellent! The service was brilliant and the food arrived quickly. Restaurant standard!

This place gets beter and better. I particularly reccomend the sweet and sour king prawns and the soft shell crabs.
