Best Chinese takeaway I have ever had, was a huge order on 3/4/24. Every single thing was full of flavour and quite frankly just delicious. If I lived in the area I would want it at least every week! Came recommended from family members from Wallingford and they did not disappoint on portion sizes, flavour and temperature of all dishes. Lady behind the counter was lovely too.

The only meal I order from a Chinese take away is the sesame prawn toast and the house special chow mein no veg garlic or onion. Some might say, onion is a vegetable but you will be surprised how many times it has been added in at other chinese take restaurants. I've just moved to the area and thought I would try it out. This is the third time I've ordered and I must say it is one of the best I've had. Loads of flavour (choose the wet one) and a good size meal. The prawn toast wasn't oily. I've enjoyed it each time so I can guarantee if you order the exact same as me you should be happy. The only thing I will say is I always collect it because food deliveries you never know how high you are in the list. Also, prawn toast should be crispy. They put it into a metal container where it sweats and goes soggy. Other Chinese places use paper bags. This prevents that from happening. I usually eaten it all by the time I get back which is 5 minutes away. Overall very satisfied with my orders and always have a laugh with the lady on the counter who is very friendly and helpful. We’ve ordered takeaway a few times from this place, and it’s been very flavourful. What made me write this review was the satay soy chicken, which was lovely and just like I remember it from Malaysia!

Very decent take away - cash and card free, but link to PayPal worked pdq. Food was marvellous.

Quick and great tasting Chinese 😋

Just ordered a collection. Crispy chilli shredded beef is burnt and inedible. Why even send this out ! Disgusting won't come back.

Food was really not great this week . No sweet and sour sauce with the chicken balls . They forgot to put the Singapore noodles in and the Duck in ginger was vacant of any actual duck . Just a few fatty bits of carcass remains

Just moved to the area and will not be using this takeaway ever again. I’m pretty unfussy and will eat most things, but the food was really very poor and ended up in the bin. Disappointing as normally love a Chinese. Answering the owners questions: It was a takeaway and collected, as I’m local enough.

The seafood Udon did not taste the same and the seafood soup was disgusting and had no flavour it was inedible. I have ordered from here many times and the food is nolonger the same.

Super friendly staff, and quick to deliver. Popped in for a quick snack before the bus arrives and they prepped it within 2min! Ordered a portion of fries and got a very generous amount of it too. Great going!

Food was excellent very hot 🔥 when arrived. Friendly staff and drivers man was very nices.

By far the best Chinese in the area! We are always extremely satisfied with the quality of food and service when collecting. Reasonably priced too!

Best Chinese by far In Wallingford! Absolutely lovely ! Sometimes our garlic and chilli chicken balls are a little over done but other then that it’s decent

Will not be ordering from here again. I don’t do reviews but the food was so poor and over priced that I couldn’t NOT leave a review. We used this place as our usual we shut - bank holiday - chicken satay was extremely dry., the prawn toast was soggy it was that greasy, beef chow mein was like slop - physically threw up after this! Perks were the chicken balls but that is by far all that was worth having. Gutted, such a waste!

Foods good but on countless occasions we are told 45minutes to an hour but wait for over 1hour and 30minutes

We've had many a Chinese over the years, but this has to be the most bland and very disappointing. The chicken chow mein was so awful.. Boiled rubbery tasteless chicken, sat on slimy noodles. The sesame prawn toast was very oily and chewy. Large portions but certainly no quality... Such a shame because we've never had a bad Chinese takeaway until now. First time ever that we've thrown more food away than we've eaten!!

Best Chinese food in the area, we tried others and they just don't compare.

We ordered a takeaway from here whilst on a hotel stay. The lady on the end of the phone was very pleasant and our food arrived in the time specified and was nice and hot. The ribs were amazing. Lots of meat and fell off the bone. The chunks of chicken in the sweet and sour were generous. A very tasty meal.

So I've edited out my previous 5 star review as I have since been back 2 times and the food is getting considerably worse. You cannot put your prices UP then give smaller portions and sell disappointing tasting food. I ordered beef in a black bean sauce and received beef in a spicy black pepper sauce (i get mistakes happen but it was so spicy my toodler couldnt touch it), the yummy chips actually looked sad should of just ordered regular chips. Crispy chilli beef only came past the half way of the container. I am happy to pay anything for a decent meal but honestly it was edible at best. It's a shame becuase a year ago there wasn't a single complaint and I would always recommend.

Firstly the chicken chow mien was literally rubber and tasteless… it wasn’t mixed with the noodles and was covered with cold onion's. secondly the spring rolls contained hard rubber that wasn’t veg… to be honest I don’t even know what it was! & disappointed that they only take cash and paypal? Who takes paypal but not card these days…

Had high expectations but sadly disappointed. Payment is cash or PayPal (why they don't take card via chip and pin beats me). Food arrived promptly but was lacklustre. Chicken curry was bland with scant amount of onion or peas. Chips were nice, as was the rice. On a plus point, the vegetable spring rolls were lovely. However, will be seeking an alternative Chinese takeaway in the area for regular ordering.

There is always something I dont like about each restaurant I order from, but today the food has been so tasty, the Crispy Lemon Chicken is to die for 😋 Will definately be coming back!!!!

Thursday 28th July. Very Bland food tonight, what's going on owners ? I can only guess you have someone else cooking tonight's food, so maybe Thursday night not a good night to order ??? Waste of money tonight !

Nice Chinese, quickly prepared, good food..

On holiday in the area and thought we would see if they delivered. The call taker was very pleasant and helpful. Told us up-front what delivery would be (£3.50). Food turned up in the time quoted, was hot and really tasty. Would recommend them.

Great food, never had any issues at all for years

Ordered chicken Choi mein, chicken curry, egg fired rice and crispy beef in chilli sauce. the chicken was like rubber. The only best thing about this meal was the rice! Not ordering from here again!! Very disappointed!

Disgraceful service. Walked to Chinese Whispers to order takeaway told to come back in 45 mins. That’s fine, they get busy. Went back didn’t realise we had to open the lids to ensure we had the correct order before leaving their premises. Came home and had received the wrong order. They didn’t believe us. Despite being shown pictures they want to see the order in person as they didn’t believe it was wrong! 4 trips to get a takeaway - never again. No apology given. And we were over charged too!!!

Ordered the chicken chow mein and sweet and sour balls. Chow mein was very greasy and the chicken was chewy, unfortunately. The balls were slightly better, but the batter was not properly cooked on the inside. I doubt I'll order from here again.

Great food, best Chinese takeaway I've ever had!

Amazing food and amazing customer service. Many a time we have ordered and an Irish guy has picked up. He was so friendly as we are Irish too asked where from. He was so friendly before knowing that! I think he deserves a pay rise . Friendly, caring, articulate and professional. Food from this establishment is beautiful better then any Chinese I've had. Definitely recommend!

Our favourite Chinese takeaway. Superb food and lots of it. Fantastic.

the duck with honey and bbq sauce was pretty bad - soggy bean sprouts topped with duck. The fat on the duck was not rendered down and just thick and soggy and the lean meat mushy. As for the chicken, it was almost translucent and massive chunks resembling nothing like nice fresh chicken. The chow mein noodles were let down by the chicken but were okay and typical in flavour. The prawn with vegetables and cashew was the best dish but averaget. The quarter duck with pancakes was very good and is the reason for the two stars. The whole meal lacked any fresh vibrancy - not a hint of fresh tasting citrus, garlic or ginger. It all tasted quite synthetic. Big chunks of onion to bulk out the dishes. It just seemed salty oily and msg'y. Any they only take cash which added an extra Covid risk. Had to nip out to the cash point. Get serious chinese whisper! I will try it again as sometimes it just may be down to a bad day in the ktchen or my selection.

Great veggie options, the veggie Singapore rice noodles are so much better than the normal ones. would eat there every day if i could!

Not just the best Chinese vegan options we’ve ever experienced, but the best Chinese Takeaway we have ever used. Absolutely outstanding quality food and service. A real treat and exceptional value!

Poor customer service over the phone to an order which was messed up. Even asking for the messed up orders food back like there going to re serve it to customers.

Usually very good but today was pathetic. Half of the order was wrong and some of the food seriously undercooked. In the bin it went. Have now sat for 1hr and 10mins on the phone to tell them but no response

The Chinese whisper went from our favourite takeaway to one we won't rush back to.. Being vegans we don't eat meat. We ordered the vegetarian crispy duck - it's incredible 🥰 The vegetarian satay chicken on skewer- v nice And garlic and chilli tofu which ruined our evening. We received a piece of chicken in the dish. This is really not ideal ... And has left us feeling rather unwell and disappointed Ruined what could have been a lovely meal. ( The food we have had until today has been great but this has really upset us )

Really yummy take away from here. We were really impressed by the amount of vegetarian options too. My other half particularly enjoyed the veggie duck. Would thoroughly reccomend. Very quick and easy pick up!

I enjoy a Chinese takeaway from time to time and Chinese Whisper is good value. The large helpings are enough for two and they sometimes throw in some prawn crackers, which I love.

Having just moved into the area I had no menus for the local takeaways nor the facility to view an online menu. My father and I drove approx. 10 mins to place an order, which we were advised was a 25 min wait for food. As they seemed to be busy this was an acceptable wait. After a period of time, the gentlemen behind the counter gave us a bag saying this was our order. On getting home we discovered we had in actual fact been given the wrong order. As we had no signal to call up, my father rang them whist I drove us back another 10 mins. The conversation that my father had with the person on the other end was disgraceful. First they asked could we make do with the food we had been given? No, it was not what we ordered and would not feed 3 of us. Second when my father asked that our original order be recooked was told that our order was sat on the side and would not be made fresh. I am sure there are guideline on how long food can sit before it needs to be re-cooked, particularly when the error was not caused by the customer. On arrival back at the shop, in addition to our order which was no longer hot my father was given £3 (this did not cover the inconvenience of multiple trips nor fuel costs), and a bag of prawn crackers. As time had now ticked on (approx. 40 mins travelling in total to and from this takeaway & 25 mins waiting for food) and I had to travel later that evening, we had no option but to make do. The meal then was also disappointing. It is the first time I have had to shred my own duck, the meals that my parents ate were also not to a standard of which they are used to and my father has been poorly for the followiing 2 days as a result of this food. I will not be using this takeaway ever again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Ordered a takeaway to Orchid Lakes (the only local Chinese willing to go the 'extra mile' to deliver here) and absolutely fabulous! Delivered within the quoted time frame, food still hot on arrival and it was superb!! Thank you very much.

We always get a takeaway from here as it is freshly cooked and authentic flavours, it is also reasonably priced.The Vegetarian set meal is fantastic value and really delicious and I have recommended it to all my friends. It is a shame they only take cash however, as card payment would be so much easier.

IMHO the deep fried tofu in peanut satay sauce and Singapore vegetarian rice is quite simply the best dish of any type for many many miles around and without question the best Chinese food we have ever had. Absolutely world class!

If you're after a great Chinese take away to eat delicious, flavourful food, then Chinese Whisper is it. I've eaten here practically since it opened, and the food is delicious and, if you're after that unique Chinese Take Away experience, authentic! The spicy dishes are especially good (and it is so good to finally have a take away that does properly spicy dishes!). Great value!One thing that could be better is for the establishment to take payments by card - that should be something to deal with quickly, easily and cost effectively.

Great tasting food though sauces were a bit runny.

Still yet to find anything on the menu that's not been amazing. Great staff, and even at their busiest times it's never that much of a wait. Weird how it's still cash only but if it works for them, why not!

Ordered takeaway with hot and sour vegetable soup but they delivered the sweetcorn soup. No point in calling back for a replacement or to complain as either way I suspect they wouldn't care!

The food was bland and disappointing. Ordered a mix set of different items from here and everything was sadly tasteless. Very disappointed with it. Everyone had recommended me to this restaurant but sadly my taste buds have been let down by the food. My recommendation would be to either order at Hong Kong House or The Shanki Li in Cholsey for better tasting quality Chinese take out food. Very disappointing...

New Year's Eve takeaway - just ok. All the noodles were a bit stodgy and dull. Beware it was cash only also - not obvious from online and I don't like paying cash with no receipt.

Never find fault with this place, some people complain about waiting, me personally, I would rather wait and have a decent meal. Competitors are usually empty for a reason!

Surprise take-away for my birthday. Family all came together for the evening. Few drinks locally and then this take-away to finish the night off. Great food and plenty of it at a reasonable price. Will definitely use the Chinese Whisper again soon.

Have had takeaways from here before and once again we were not disappointed. Service was very quick, food hot (even by the time we had walked home) and extremely tasty. Will definitely use again.

Not had a bad dish yet, always well seasoned (unlike Hong Kong House) and plenty of it. Good veggie and seafood selection too. Quick, hot and very friendly staff. Cant recommend it enough.

Best Chinese take away in town, been there visit friend, surprise there are new take away in town, plus they do delivery, order that night, food are delicious, service is brilliant, the boy on the phone was really helpful, definitely will come again.

Brilliant for a take away ( the only service available). Fresh cooked, decent size portions and worth the money. Has some more of the lesser known dishes, including vegetarian duck! No seaweed though!

Second time we have ordered from Chinese Whispers. It was a large order with many dishes. All were cooked superbly and it was one of the best takeaway meals I have had in a long time. Very good value and very good food.

Summary : Great quality meal at a good price. Our regular takeaway was unexpectedly (to us) closed on a night that we had promised ourselves a takeaway treat. Hesitantly after reading many reviews of various establishments we decided to try the Chinese Whisper. The order was taken by a very polite member of staff. Communication was clear and we were advised to collect our order in 20 minutes. (We’re not in the same town) Parking spaces can be found less than a minute walk from the premises. I arrived within 15 minutes to a very clean and well presented business. No concerns regarding hygiene and I noted various certifications on the wall demonstrating that the business takes the safety of food preparation seriously and are proud of its accreditation’s The window opening also makes for a seating area and is perfectly comfortable to sit and wait. If busy be prepared to stand as the front of house is fairly small compared to many takeaways. During my waiting time I remembered that I had read somewhere on google that they only accept cash. I didn’t note any signage in the shop stating this. However on checking their website when writing this review I can confirm this is clear on their welcome page and perhaps I missed the note in the shop. Either way not a problem, there’s a cash machine less than a minutes walk away. The food was ready after a 5-10 minute wait and was handed over with a pleasant thank you by the member of staff. 15 minutes later and now home the dinner was plated up. It was still piping hot and the quality of the ingredients didn’t disappoint. Relief now ensued as the first taster confirmed that this was as good if not better than our regular (no mean feet as I am quite fussy about food...) I would not hesitate in coming back and our regular takeaways decision not to open may well have just lost them a customer to the Chinese Whisper.

Ordered a delivery takeaway at 6.35 and was told it would be 1hr 15 mins....long time but thought ok it's a Saturday night. At 1 hr 30 mins called to ask where our delivery was to be told they are very busy with people in the actual shop and it would be at least another 30 mins. Firstly they should deal with orders in the order they come in and secondly have put a real damper on what was a Saturday night treat for us. Very poor and will lose our repeat custom from this.

booked a take away after having had one average meal before. told it would take 1/2 hour on phone - turned up after 1/2 an hour and had to wait another 1/2 an hour. Really poor attitude when point raised! not going back

I debated long and hard about writing this review since I do not normally write bad ones, but reading the other reviews here I was left with the conclusion that people are being far too generous based on my own experiences.

A friend told us about this place and raved about the garlic, chilli chicken wings. We tried it and weren't disappointed and they deliver for a small charge.

Great menu, price and quality food.

A brilliant takeaway. The shop is clean and looks very nice with the way it’s decorated, the member of staff taking orders was very helpful and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend here.

Gave the crispy chilli chicken a try as had heard it was really good. Crispy it was but couldnt even tell it was chicken. Garlic n chilli squid was so salty it was almost inedible. Quarter duck not shredded which is strange. Wouldnt order again.
