The Grape Variety at Chipstead is a hidden gem… wine shop by day, wine bar by night. Adrian and his team do a superb job and we always love going. Great wines, lovely service and ambience and some lovely food options e.g. chorizo and fries, baked Camembert, charcuterie boards etc. We highly recommend and it makes a nice change from the pub for something a bit different.

We popped in for an impromptu evening dinner yesterday and were greeted by two very polite, courteous and friendly young men. We ordered two haddocks with chips and mushy peas and decided to eat them in. Really lovely fresh food eaten in a very welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be calling again.

I visit the white hart very often for meals with my family and have always been happy. However my last visit I have been left disappointed. We had ordered our drinks which was 2 bottles of wine between our table, and after 10 minutes of ordering a manager came over to ID myself and another. I don’t have an issue with being ID but why 10 minutes after ordering the drinks? I ordered the steak burger and chips and received my chips cold, let the waitress know to which she took my plate. She returned 2 mins later with no apology and as if the food had been put in the microwave. While we were eating out main all the lights in the pub had switched off. I would assume a power cut but by the laughter of the staff at the bar and them saying “turn the lights back on” made me assume this was no mistake. Again no apologies just laughter by the staff. Very disappointing, especially after coming so often and never having an issue

Our son had visited the pub a few weeks ago, and said how lovely the food and staff were, and the amazing building, full of history. He recommended we try it, so after calling in to feed his cats as they were away, we called in on the off-chance. It was quiz night! The whole place was packed, but a lovely smiley lady found us a table, adapted the menu for my husband, who is gluten free, and I had the most delicious cheese and bacon jacket, not on the menu, but happy to adapt. It was a so friendly, lovely bar staff who really were very kind and helpful, beautiful food, all in the most amazing and historical surroundings, with original beams and full of character. Such a gem to find, and so glad we did, we will be back, as will my son, and his family. Even the background music was great, not loud, but relaxing. Make sure you visit the ancient well, mentioned in the Domesday book. I spoke to another couple who were regulars and said it was exactly how you would want your local to be….Thank you, Jenny and Bob

My dad & I met some friends here on Sunday. We have been looking forward to having a roast lamb meal & they did not disappoint. From entering the restaurant to leaving, everything was perfect. Staff were attentive & courteous. Bee greeted us with a lovely smile & showed us to our table. The drinks & food were amazing. So tasty, Jason & I chatted as I paid the bill, I wasn’t rushed even though they were very busy. Best roast dinner around! Definitely book. Thank-you to everyone for making it such a special & lovely meal, especially for my dad.
