A tad expensive but probably worth it

Just stopped off because it was a dog friend pub and we’d just been for a walk on the downs. Food was so ruddy good! I just had a simple steak sandwich and so much attention and detail had been put into perfectly cooked meat, soft bread, a thoughtful mix of flavours in the salad, and crisp but fluffy chips. Point in making is if it had even been half this good I would have been happy. Staff are friendly, decor is nice inside and out. Definitely worth a visit, especially after a walk.

We enjoyed a lovely birthday meal on a busy Thursday evening, in a great atmosphere. It was as busy as ever and the staff were still attentive. The food was really good too.

Great, authentic country pub, just a few miles from Sutton. Food is excellent, great ambience, no TVs blaring, thankfully! Staff are very friendly and professional, great allergen knowledge, which is essential in restaurants these days! Prices are on the upper scale, but you get what you pay for, it is worth every penny!

I love this pub. I don't drive so it's a bit of a pain to get to, but I ALWAYS bring friends for Xmas because it's so cozy and the food is wonderful. However, today I took my dad and brother for lunch as a special treat and I had a goat cheese salad which was to die for. I said as much and said I'd end up going home and reverse engineer it and eat it for 5 days. My dad only went and asked if they did takeaway and got me two for me to take home 😂. The poor kitchen staff! Totally worth it though, they put it in bowls and everything!

I love the pub but there are a lot of dogs. Unfortunately not all are controlled properly. This is not a safe environment for the customers especially those with children and well controlled dogs. The manager said that dogs do not have to be on a lead inside the pub but the website says dogs should be on a leash???? It should be a rule that all dogs should be on a leash at all times in all areas for everyone's safety and comfort!!!!

Lovely waitress. Lovely food. We all had the brisket which was new to the menu - 3 were very good, 1 was much dryer and not nearly as well portioned piece of meat. Starters and deserts were all excellent. Buffalo chicken wings were amazing. Summer pudding was excellent, although i needed cream with it which they happily provided.

Awesome food, lovely ambience....It's our go to place for special occasions!

We were able to get a table with friends outside and it was lovely. It was really busy when we arrived and couldn’t find a car parking space but managed to park on the road just outside. The waiters bought out water for our dog so she didn’t go thirty. We were served quickly too. The food was delicious and we couldn’t fault it. I would definitely recommend the steak burger and the biscoff cheesecake!

Absolute rip off. 33 pounds for this tiny steak. Left starving.

Great place, good food and service

Extremely disappointed. Pasta was hard and cold, and was sent back, fortunately came back hot. The parsnips and potato’s were hard in the Sunday roast. Service was slow, had added items on the receipt which were eventually taken off. Used to be our favourite place to eat.

Steak sandwich not AS amazing as it used to be, but still nice

Lovely place however the food was not amazing sadly. The crispy beef wasn’t crispy at all and was just tough to chew. The crab arancini was a little bland and the other dishes were ok but nothing to write home about. Shame because staff and ambience was lovely. Would give 3.5 stars overall if possible.

Great visit, really nice pub all refitted and very comfortable with lots of nice seating area in bars then the wonderful "restaurant" seating area plus an extensive outdoor covered terrace so what's not to like? Menu looked great and all we had in our group got a big thumbs up. My pick was fishcake with poached egg hollandaise on top. Tasted the Spring Veg Risotto which too was scrumptious and top drawer. Beer selection was good with pub priding itself on reasonably local beers but although there were FIVE real ales to choose from (Dorking Brewery One at £5.60 a pint was favourite) We were minded to suggest a bit more thought here is needed the ales were (at my visit) all very much the same style. At least an Old Ale/Stout or Porter might be switched with one of the ordinary ales to widen the style offering.) The House Ale (from St Austell @ £5.00 a pint) is only 3.4% which indicates a quaffer but no big flavour. Loos were superb and very clean better indeed than commonly found. Staff were all welcoming and most efficient making our visit a real pleasure. Even the local Vicar visiting for lunch enjoyed his meal "very much" he said! Make a visit you will not be disappointed, we are on our way back too!

Mega over-priced, typical uneducated underpaid British staff and the main waiter basically telling us ( groupe of 15 people ) telling us to bugger off about 20 minutes after we finished our meal despite having waited almost 40 minutes for our main to arrive. Room on the first floor was nice though . Pudding was nice … everything else was a bit meh….

The White Hart is a good pub. There is three areas, the bar and casual seating, the restaurant and outside seating. Plenty of parking. UBER comes out this far. A good selection of bar snacks, including whitebait and deep friend pickles. Around the £4 mark. Food can be served in all areas depending on how casual you want. Expect to pay £10-15 for a good sized main. The pub welcomes kids and dogs,and you will often find both. Water and biscuits provided for dogs, a young persons menu for the kids. The pub organises Sunday walks, and these are dog friendly They always have a variety of local beers, both bitter and draught lagers. Several wines at reasonable by the glass prices and bottles. They have a gin selection with fevertree tonics. Be prepared to book for Sunday lunch which attracts a lot of people. They also do special nights like gin tasting and guest brewery visits. Quiz every fortnight Wednesday Free to enter, fun but only a bottle of wine if you win!

Good, food, good service, helpful, professional team.

My friend Val and I had a wonderful lunch today. We both had the Venison pie, and waffle and ice cream for dessert. Our waitress Linda was lovely attentive and tended to our every need.

Nice atmosphere, warm friendly pub. Clean toilets. Good car park. Food not so good, been here 3 times for food with friends and at least one of us has had a complaint about the food. Shame.

Disappointing experience if I am honest. We waited 2 hours for food to arrive and when it did the portions were incredibly small. It was about £16 for a tiny sandwich with nothing with it and it didn't taste that nice. Will never be going back there. The staff were nice and apologetic for the wait but it doesn't negate the rest of the experience unfortunately. They weren't busy enough to warrant that wait time!

Went for the pub morning walk followed by lunch. Free fresh coffee and bacon rolls before the walk, very nice! Walk was great, all the dogs loved it. Met some lovely people too. Lunch was off the menu and also really good. Staff were very nice.

I’ve just had my birthday party here with family I’ve not seen for 40 years. We had the Christmas menu. The food was second to none. Usually I find that Christmas meals dining out are rather lacklustre. This had large turkey breast pieces and the most delicious roasties. My starter was a fig and goats cheese tart and this was also delicious. And, I can’t fault the Christmas pudding either. It was served with brandy custard and light and fruity. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. It’s a delightful restaurant/pub and I look forward to dining there again.

A really lovely pub restaurant. Excellent service and really good quality food. The scallop starter was tasty and the chocolate tart with orange sorbert was fantastic. I've found it best to stick to the pub classics, they are fantastic (pies, roasts etc.) but other dishes can be hit and miss.

Very homely coupled with a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Great for Sunday lunches with the family and the pooch! 😉

First time here, no complaints whatsoever hence the 5 star's and it seems a very friendly place also dogs are very welcome.

Sunday roast meat was perfect potatoes cold as was gravy served with curly kale also cold roast potatoes not crispy very disappointing won't be going back for a Sunday roast.

Had a Sunday roast today, good portions and beef was delicious. They offer small desserts with coffee, which were good.

Beautiful, bright inside; young, enthusiastic servers; car park struggles to accommodate the Sunday lunch brigade; roast beef could have been better - pinker as on menu, and less tough.

Really lovely pub. It is a bit out of the way but worth it for the food. All staff are really friendly too and the portion sizes are huge!

First time we visited and didn't disappoint. Pub is smart, staff and our waitress was friendly and very cheerful and the food was great. Took our dog and eat in the bar area of the restaurant, which was cosy and comfortable. Highly recommend the chicken coq au vin pie.

First time ever, had a bad meal here. Sea bass was grey and very fishy, gave it to the dog. Everything was swimming in butter, not nice.

Food was fantastic and had a range of gluten free options which is really nice to see, in particular they had other desserts aside from ice cream. Will definitely recommend and definitely be heading back there to try other food on the menu. Worst waitress ever! Had a meal here on Friday night. My friends and I thought it had to be the waitress’ first day, but it wasn’t. I was just about to clear our own table and take the plates to the kitchen myself, when she EVENTUALLY decided to clear our main courses away - she took 5 plates out of 6 and forgot to come back for the last one! instead she was standing eating something at the desk! This was just one example of the disastrous service she gave. I used to love the white hart and it was the first time my 5 friends had been there on my recommendation- it was going to be our new meeting place, but we all agreed NEVER to go back because of her rubbish service. Totally unacceptable! Wishing we had sat away from the window because their waitress seemed to know how to do her job properly 😡

My wife and I had a very enjoyable Saturday afternoon lunch here in August. We booked a table in advance but when we arrived it was still very quiet. By time we departed however it was beginning to get quite a lit busier. The menu was superb with a good range of dishes. The staff are very efficient, friendly and attentive. When the food arrived it was tasty and well presented. The lemon cheesecake with raspberry sorbet was particularly delicious. Highly recommended.

Called last evening for a quiet drink in a beautiful country pub only to be greeted by some loud mouthed middle aged drunks at the bar who got louder and used more vile language as the night progressed. 3 males and one female - disgraceful!

Nice varied menu, liked how the menu was produced for the day. Food was good and prices were reasonable. Some good walks around the area. Place was dog friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and there is an outdoor terrace.

Super Sunday lunch - the mixed roast was beef and pork. Served with all the trimmings. Absolutely delicious. As it was Father's Day, I even got a free pint of beer. Staff were friendly and efficient. Lunch was quite a treat for me. Recommended.

Place is huge, but we went at lunchtime and it wasn't crowded. There is a large outside but sadly no one was so sat there. Food was good but coffee was expensive, more like a restaurant than a pub (service was extra). Ale was good but we didn't sample the wine because my wife was driving!

Really nice country pub (for two Londoners on their day out!), with a good selection of local ales on tap (Surrey Hills, Twickenham, etc). Menu looked nice too, but we already had lunch plans. More than likely to head back shortly to try the food!
