The best sausage rolls I've tasted - flaky pastry, pork supplied by a local farm in Steyning. Homemade fresh pastries and cakes. Excellent coffee. Highly recommended

We stopped in for a meal in the way to the Dieppe ferry. Sadly they are âjust a drinking pubâ we were told but the lady behind the bar was very happy to direct us to a pub serving food. Very helpful to get us to a pub which did serve food.

First time visit today, we booked a table for 12.30 which glad we did as by 1pm was getting busier which we liked as was a nice atmosphere. We ordered a smaller appitite meal and a baguette... Wow the portion was huge and absolutely lovely! Couldn't believe the sizes for the price. All the waiting staff polite girls

Came across this place on the last leg of a walk on the Downs a few years back. Returned today to find all was closed down and overgrown, despite a website i ducati g to the contrary. . How on earth someone managed to submit a good review on 4th Sep is rather strange. The location and feel of the garden, with the gravel pathways and cottage type beds, was once absolutely idyllic. Not surprised it hasn't survived - the following is what I drafted back then. Pethaps I should have read the signs... "There were lots of tables and chairs to choose from, some in some very welcome shade. We were rather dirty and sweaty, so didn't really notice the standard of the furniture. We sat and recovered, reading our papers. The drinks and lunch were of very good quality and tasty, so we didn't mind the above average prices. However, the speed of service and attitude of the older woman were bad. I can't therefore give a good rating.. The place was not crowded, and we had to remind them about our order (tea, cold drinks and salad) after 30 minutes - when an adjacent table was served before us, having arrived 10 minutes or so after us. When our order was delivered, our comment was "oh, lovely, we're ready for this", to which the woman replied "oh have you been waiting - we can only work so fast in this heat you know". Clearly someone who finds it easy to make it the customer's problem. Just an apology would have done. Shall go back though, for the location, but perhaps just for a cuppa next time (would possibly be cold tho).

Stopped off for a late lunch here on Bank hol Monday, before taking the lovely if rather steep walk up Mt Caburn (footpath access for which is opposite). What a find. We had a table in the attractive garden and I had an individual small quiche with salad and my husband had the soup of the day (carrot ad roasted pepper I think), both of which were really tasty. Then we shared a plain scone (fruit also available) with clotted cream and jam. Excellent textured fresh scone. We hope to return soon to sample the cakes - they had 5 or 6 to choose from. The full afternoon teas with a selection of little cut sandwiches which were presented on cake stands looked beautiful too. Staff were friendly and helpful despite being busy.

Lovely cafe with fresh, delicious food. Relaxed, comfy and a lovely feel to the place inside and out. The staff are lovely and make a effort to really get to know their regulars. I quickly felt at home after a couple of visits but go regularly with my dog. ( dog friendly) would recommend the Welsh rarebit, best I have ever had.

Friday evening visit to the local chippy. Friendly staff, fish was a generous size and really tasty with crispy batter. Chips were well cooked, and were still crispy when we got them home. Really good, thank you!

We were told the takeaway food would be about 20 minutes, so arrived after about 25 just to be sure. Unfortunately this was nowhere near how long it actually took. We waited an hour in the end for the food and quickly drove the 2 minutes home, when we arrived home everything on the order apart from one item was stone cold. We ate the food because we were all hungry by this time and needed to feed the kids, the food itself wasnât bad. But the wait and fact it was cold I probably wouldnât return. Unless youâve got plenty of time on your hands and like cold food! A shame because itâs the only kebab place in the village, during the week itâs still slow but better. Maybe Iâll drive the extra few minutes to Lewes in futureâŚ
