Ganges in Lewes

I was in the area and got a lovely meal meal there with an excellent service. Definitely I would eat there again and I can highly recommend the place.

Lived in Ringmer for 11 years and over the years although I haven't had many takeaways from there I have quite a variety of different foods,and they are 100% amazing chefs who work bloody hard in a hot kitchen! I have uppermost respect for the manager especially and all of his staff.Food is delicious..... Shame they don't have their dine in restaurant anymore as it made the front of the shop look more inviting but I can imagine it must of been even more stressful to deal with constant takeaways plus diners aswell. High five to All of you amazing workers and to 'Jaka' (Sorry if I have spelt this wrong! ) I have always been greeted politely and made friends along the way! My 10 year old son was addicted to your poppadoms ✨️⭐️🌟🌈

Had a takeaway, prompt service on time, food was hot and generous portions.

Times are tight and takeaway is a rare treat but this was a huge disappointment. I ordered delivery last night and one dish (Malai Murgh Tikka) was just completely plain flavourless dry chicken with onions. I was surprised as my partner’s chicken Karahi was very nice and we have had good food from them before. I called the restaurant as surely something has gone wrong here. I was told “there is nothing I can do” and offered 20% off my next order. That is useless as I will not be ordering from you again. He clearly could not care less. We paid £11.50 for this terrible dish and had also given a tip. At the very least I wanted a replacement or refund but that was not happening.

Have had a takeaway from here a few times and always arrives quickly and hot. Food taste good and seems good quality. It’s five stars for a village takeaway.

Very good food was excellent, only thing I must say is the appearance from the out side and inside it don’t look great should do it up and make it look tidy and not like it’s been deserted for a long time. I sent a friend there today and told him the food was fantastic and he walked inside and turned around and sent me a video and said he would not eat from there. As a local I’m advising you to get the shop done up to scratch better for you and the locals

After a few bad experiences, I hadn’t used for a while, but tonight I ordered a prawn purée and garlic chilli chicken… both were just flawless.

Takeaway from here is reliable and delicious. Loads of options for vegetarians! It would be nice to get more than one poppadom in a portion but that’s a very minor thing.

We had a takeaway delivered. We have had takeaways before and they have been good but not had one for quite some time. Very polite and efficient on the phone and delivered very promptly however the food was very bland lacking any sign of fresh spices, garlic or corriander, rice almost too salty to eat, far too much sugar, nan undercooked, really not a good meal, quite frankly some of it was barely edible very disappointed.

Seduced by a menu through the door, we decided to give the Ganges a whirl. We tried the lamb kabuli and chicken chettinad with bhaji, samosa and paratha. All absolutely delicious and arrived piping hot. Our only quibble is that there is no information about allergens unless you phone up to enquire. It can be pretty disheartening to get excited about a dish, only to discover you can’t actually eat it. So many restaurants carry allergen guidance these days, so I’d urge the Ganges to consider adding guidance to their online menus as food allergies and intolerances are so common and such a feature would enable more customers to order with confidence and enjoy your amazing food!

Such a shame with this place, i used to order curry each month normally twice a month, but in last year the quality has massively declined. I come back off holiday and placed a order when got home as was tired and it was horrible i did a email about this and was totally ignored, i decided to give another chance and email again but again ignored. Customer service is massive hence why will not order a curry off these again, why should i when giving information on my food and been loyal customer to them. But if they cant even reply i wont spend my money with them but did have 3 of last 4 curries pretty average so not a big miss on recent quality. I used to spend £30 a time on orders as said normally twice a month so lost about £720 a year off me on average purely because cant be bothered to reply and accept did some poor curries.

I’ve been eating from here for the last 4 years as we have never had a bad curry… tonight was by far the best curry I’ve ever eaten. 10/10

We are new vegetarians and ordered Tikka Masala Paneer Veg Passanda Mutter Paneer and of course Samosa. We ordered through Deliveroo. It arrived promptly and was really hot, looked amazing and tasted divine. Rich deep flavours and I can honestly say it was the best Indian takeaway Ive ever had.

Placed a takeaway order at 7:50 pm, they said it would be an hour. They called at 8:40 and my husband went to collect it. They gave him a bag which. He checked and knew straight away it was wrong. They gave him another bag which he brought back, also completely wrong. We took it back and they said it would be another 20 mins to do the order. I said no and asked for a refund. The manager was extremely rude and unapologetic. Would not go here again.

Very disappointed. False delivery information. We were ordering an amount of food totalling over £15. According to their website, it's free delivery over £15 and within 3 miles. So we expected free delivery. Unfortunately, we were asked for a delivery fee but when we stated their offer on their website we were told being in Lewes meant we didn't fit the offer. This made no sense as we are less than 3 miles from them. Hopefully they'll amend their false advert and do better not to mislead customers.

We have ordered from Ganges about 8 times now and cannot fault the food, service or delivery. My partner has tried a different curry every time and each one has been very good! Delivery drivers always friendly and never have any issues finding us when other takeaways have been a headache! Would definitely recommend, best Indian takeaway locally 👍🏻

Very friendly and accommodating service from all the staff. I was told by friends that I should give cafe ganges a try as the food there was amazing and reasonably priced... I'm now a regular for our friday night take out.. I'm glad I took my friends advice and I now wont be going anywhere else for our family curry takeout

Love a curry and tried a few in the Lewes area. This evening decided to order from Ganges and what can I say - what an amazing meal! Quite easily the best around at the moment. Will definitely be ordering again!! Thank you Jack et al!

Based on 3 recent orders... Order 1: Quoted 90 mins delivery, arrived 75 mins, free delivery. Food was hot, flavourful and portion sizes good. Order 2:Quoted 90 mins delivery, arrived 105 mins, £1.50. Food was hot, good portion size but very bland. Lack of spice and seasoning. Order 3: Quoted 90 mins delivery, arrived 135 mins, £3. Food was hot, portion sizes down by at least 25-30%. Found half a green chillie in a chicken jalfrezi (which should have been king prawn and cost an extra £3.45). Food was extremely bland and tasteless. All ordered to the same address and within the last month. So, to me, it seems I'm paying an extra £1 for every 10 minutes added onto the quoted delivery times. The overall cost and waiting time is going up while the quality, quantity and accuracy of order is going down. For order number 3... You did call me to apologise at around 105mins to say it would be another 20-25 mins (which it was, but this still cost £3 and i still paid an extra £3.45 for a main i didn't receive). I tried calling but the phone was permanently engaged.

The team at Cafe Ganges have gone from strength to strength. The food is currently the best quality. Highly recommended.

I ordered a takeaway last night and it was truly lovely, tasty and arrived within an hour. Where I live it is difficult to get orders delivered but with Cafe Ganges there was no problem. The staff were well organised and I will certainly be ordering from there again.

Had a curry delivery from here last night, korma and masala for my younger kids lamb and jalfrezi for my teenager and me and I have to say I was taken aback by how good it was! I haven’t ever had a curry from here before I love in lewes and always go to spice merchants but used these guys on recommendation! The lamb was so tender and flavoursome and the curries were just so so tasty! Will definitely be ordering from here in future just hope they still deliver to lewes after this lockdown!

I phoned an order through and was told it would table 45 minutes. The man on the phone was friendly. It was delivered exactly 45 minutes later and was left on my doorstep to adhere to social distancing rules. I ordered a chicken tikka masala, a lamb korma, two pilau rice and a cheese naan. I was also given a complimentary onion salad. The food was scorching hot when it arrived. All the tubs were filled up to the top and had lots of chicken/lamb in them. The curries themselves were wonderful. Each one that I ordered had loads of flavourful sauce and the meat as well was really nice. The chicken was grilled extremely well and the lamb was super tender and soft. The tikka masala wasn’t artificially red which was reassuring to see and it still tasted like the signature tikka masala flavour. The naan was also great, loved the cheese. I highly recommend Cafe Ganges. Their food is consistently great. The prices are reasonable and they deliver quickly. What more could you want?

We just polished off the most delicious food this evening very fresh and piping hot!! The staff at Cafè Ganges are unbelievably welcoming and will give good recommendations if you can’t quite decide what you want to eat, or if you want to try something different. My young daughter (usually a fussy eater) loves a lot of things on the menu, it’s a real treat for her when we order a takeaway. Great vegetarian options as well.

I ordered online, my order was confirmed and accepted and then without warning was cancelled. I only found out when I phoned up to find out where my food was...

Be warned. This is a curry house without any alcohol. It's seems popular for takeaways but eating in wasn't a pleasure. Took an an hour to serve the food. Won't be going again sadly.

The best takeaway ever. Tonight’s food was amazing. I am a curry freak but my husband no so. He thought the food was lovely. No oil slick as is often found. So many prawns in our dishes and chicken too nothing else to bulk it up. Really recommend Ganges. Thank you guys.

This is our go to place for a takeaway. Always friendly and efficient. I have to say that our food last night was the best! Chicken Jalfriezi, King Prawn Bhuna, tarka dhal, naan and rice. All delicious, great balance of spices and plenty of meat in each.

The curry I had from you guys this evening is the the best I have had from anywhere for a long time, wonderful! Lamb byrani, bombay aloo, onion bhaji, down to the poppadoms were cooked to perfection, beautiful. 🙌

Cold food once arrived late, also missing the drink

The food was delicious but the order was incomplete so we didnt get to eat together. The restaurant did sort it out as fast as possible so it was much appreciated.

Delivery time from estimate was awful... if you say 18.45 for delivery shouldnt have to wait until over 20 minutes after... poor

It was a Saturday night so we expected it to be a long time, it said 80 mins, but it was about 95 mins for delivery. And when the food arrived it wasn’t hot, going cold even though we dished up straight away. It was a shame because the food tastes good & lovely flavour.

Food was 30 mins late. Not a massive issue but when it arrived it had 2 items missing. I called the store they said they would redeliver them. They didn’t! The food was nice but due to the missing items and them just not turning up after they said they would I don’t think I’ll re order!

Hands down the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. Not once have I had a bad meal. Every single time I eat here the food has been outstanding. Everything from the presentation to the aromatic flavours of each individual dish. To top it all off the family and staff who run this place are the kindest most honest family. This is without a doubt my favourite place to eat out. You have got to try it.

The food was awful and has been the last twice I’ve ordered from there. The rice was grainy like eating sand, the chicken korma was bland and tasteless and the plate Of food was swimming in water, I had to drain the plate!! The naan bread was tasteless and like rubber and needless to say it all went in the bin!! I’m never ordering from Ganges again which is such a shame as their food used to amazing!! The one star is because I couldn’t put 0 in the rating.
