The Viceroy in Lewes

Ordered mixed starter £8-9 piece of chicken, 2 piece of lamb, about a bites worth of sheek kebab and 1 tiny tiny samosa, really poor. Vindaloo not much flavour and chicken really small and no potato. Busy Saturday night so no idea why food was so poor

Ik heb bij veel Indiase restaurants gedineerd. Dit restaurant is wel de top. Geweldig veel keus en fijne bediening. Voor mijn gerecht geef ik een 10 . Ik kan dit zeer aanbevelen.

On a late shift at work and was desperat for food 🤭. So I found this place not only when I call they said would be half hour wait and were super busy, but I was sort of time as on break. They went out there way to take my order for me to collect in10mins..... definitely worth it as well was so delicious 😋 and 100% recommended and on arrival I felt so welcome such lovely people.

chicken not very good bit tough and not very much bit poor

This restaurant used to be excellent when owned by the precious owners but it seems new management is in place and it has lost so much. There is no atmosphere, it looks run down and the menus were dirty. It is now run by a different owner. Because of this they have no wine list or alcohol. Their meat is all halal which, we refuse to eat as is so cruel. We had a few popodams and then when we discovered it was halal and the general lifeless atmosphere, not even music playing we left. We charged 5 pounds for three popodams. No notices to say they don't serve alcohol or that they use halal meat. Would never go there

I have been here twice now with my colleague, the food is outstanding and I’m from Wales and have so much choice of restaurants. This is the place to come if in the area 👌🏼 the mix grill is bang on 👍🏼

Third time here with my work colleagues, most friendly staff, so accommodating when fussy like myself and I can honestly say it’s one if not the best Indian I have had. Every time the madras sauce is amazing and so tasty and cooked the way I like it as I’m fussy. I live 260 miles away and I will bring my wife here one day when I get the chance the food is that good.

Very very expensive £££ Not very keen on the balti. Very mild and tasteless . Service was ok , but waiters kept hovering around ready to take plate soon as meal finished with in seconds .

Another unexpected surprise in what is otherwise quite a sad rundown centre of town (centre ville) The food was excellent some of the best onion bhajis we've ever tasted, including travelling in India! Distinct and different flavours to each dish. Excellent portion sizes so hope you are hungry. Also good prices too. We will return.

Lovely curry. Definitely the best in the area

We moved to peacehaven just over a year ago ,this is the first meal we have ordered from the Viceroy and it won't be the last . The only word that springs to mind is exceptional , I'm a real foodie and love to cook ,it's not often I order takeaways as they're usually rubbish but this food was truly a wonderful surprise. The chicken Tikka wasn't very good and tasteless

Take away order arrived in good time great to get home delivery. There were four of us so we had a good selection of dishes which were very tasty and well presented. Would happily recommend a take away from here. Looking forward to my next visit.

Brilliant as always. I won’t go anywhere else

The food was wonderful and a gluten free menu was available. There were only two tables but the restaurant thought it a good idea to put us right next to a table that bellowed to the whole restaurant. Not impressed.

The quality is really good here. So happy to have found our local tandoori. I have the chicken tikka madras, which is very tasty. The Dahl masala is spot on and everything always seems to be nice and fresh. My girlfriend loves the prawn tikka balti and the saag paneer/ aloo gobi. Our favourite takeaway in Newhaven.

Onion bhaji’, chilli supreme, garlic naan and the goats cheese samosas were incredible. Top quality food to be fair, and thank you for sorting me out with the lime pickle! Always a delight.

It was very reassuring to eat here for vegan options. They have a printed vegan menu available upon request. This takes the hassle out of trying to request custom dishes as is the norm elsewhere. One of the few restaurants that offer a vegan onion bhaji which was very appreciated. I can also recommend the Madras. This restaurant is a model example of how to cater for those with dietary requirements - I will be returning!

Recently refurbished. Very good menu with some unusual dishes. Great value. Most dishes available GF and Vegan. No licence so bring your own drink, which keeps the overall price down considerably. Not too busy early in the week so better for a quiet meal if you prefer. Also take away

Thought we would try somewhere new and Viceroy did not disappoint, everything tasted amazing and will definitely be our new go to!

quite pricey but worth it. amazing service, comes hot and is of great quality. I usually don't eat lamb as I'm always disappointed at how chewy it can be however never had this issue here.

Food was cold on arrival and portion amount not worth the money

Never ordered from here before but had a voucher and our normal Indian takeaway wasn't an option. Unfortunately we were not at all impressed! Food was on time, which was something! However, it wasn't very warm when it arrived and when we opened the curries they were swimming in oil/grease! They were also extremely bland and tasteless, so much so that we threw the left overs we had away. The peshwari naan was also disappointing! The rice and onion bhajis we're ok though. Won't be ordering again

Great food and super friendly. Impromptu night out and we were really pleased with the food. It’s take your own drink if you’d like wine/beer etc, which is really easy with the local shop nearby if you don’t realise.

We had a takeaway so can’t comment on the atmosphere but we have had a couple of takeaways in recent weeks and have loved them. They have always been really good but we think they may have ta new chef as they seem even better, either way great meal. Thanks and keep it up the good work 😊

Tasty food, excellently cooked, perfect take-away!

Had a takeaway whilst visiting family in the town. I’m predictable and always order the same thing wherever I go to an Indian so have a fairly good idea of what I am getting. Whilst the Korai chicken was lovely it was very bland which was disappointing however all the other dishes were fine.

This is a BYO establishment, which I would recommend as the price of soft drink is ridiculous.

We bought a take away of three dishes. The vegetable madras was ok, but the king prawn bhuna and chicken jalfrezi were terrible. The 'king' prawns seemed to be just large ordinary prawns, hard as bullets and tasteless, and the 'chicken' in the jalfrezi looked like it was from a catering pack of char siu chicken. This has to be the worst meat I've ever had in a curry: hard, tasteless cubes. Very disappointing, avoid at all costs.

The hotel is very good and the staff is very polite and helpful they will help you to chose the food as per your like. Must visit once if you want to taste delicious Indian food.

Fairly deserted restaurant, did not know the ridiculous prices and minimum spend (14.95£ pp) the restaurant required until sat down. Have expressed our regrets to the staff and was greeted with a smirk; “there’s a Chinese takeaway nearby that may suit your price.” Fyi I am of East Asian heritage, and such racial stereotypes and microaggression is unacceptable.

We rarely have a take away and this was the first from Viceroy. Hot food on delivery and we really enjoyed it. Particularly the prawn rogan. We pre ordered so was pleased it arrived a bit early!

The atmosphere was fine, but we were mainly the only ones in there until we were about to leave and then another table of guests arrived. The food was fantastic, the restaurant was very clean, nice comfortable decor which made the whole experience extremely pleasant. Average prices, which is generally a good thing, and you bring your own alcohol (not soft drinks) as they don't have a licence to sell alcohol. I thought this was great as prefer the cost save and my own preferred choice of beer anyway. Highly recommended.

Had a takeaway from the Viceroy last night. Usually the Viceroy is excellent quality and reasonably priced. Unfortunately they have reduced the portion sizes and the mixed starter was just a rip off. I think it will be a very long time before I use the Viceroy again. Which is a shame.

Chicken biriyani was bland, tasted like i just had plain rice with chicken, chicken was also pretty much non existant.

One of the best curries we have ever eaten. The service was impeccable and the staff were extremely friendly. We live in France, but will definitely come again before our next ferry crossing. Can't recommend enough and even asked the chef to come out to thank him 🙏

Just dropped in on the way back via the ferry to France. I have been eating curries for over 40 years. This place was easily in my top 5 - excellent food. Newhaven is a dump, but this place is a gem

This is a real gem of a restaurant. Newhaven are very lucky people. Food was excellent, I think there were 7 r 8 different chutneys that came with the poppadoms. All fantastic so that was a great start. The restaurant was very busy which on a Sunday night they must have a great local reputation. Starters, mains again all fantastic and some different authentic dishes to try which I love. Very hard working lady at the front.of house. I assume she is the onwer? Finished with ice cream which my son loved. Also take your own wine which helps keep the price to a reasonable budget. 11 out of 10 if I could. Fantastic

Tough to review…. The food was genuinely excellent and so was the delivery time etc. I can’t and won’t fault the quailty of any part of it. This is more about the cost in general. I live alone and decided to treat myself. I thought I’d overspend and get enough for a meal the next day too (so two mains and two rice). I know prices have risen so wasn’t too annoyed at spending £60 compared to the £40 it used to cost for two days eating! I have eaten the whole lot and am full but not bursting! Every dish felt undersized and light for the price. It’s sad because a decent takeaway is no longer a treat, it’s an event! I can’t afford this and I’m sure many others can’t either. This is a great local takeaway and one of the best in the area but it’s all just becoming too expensive to be an option. All of that is just a personal gripe. The food was excellent. Thank you.

My partner and I , have recently moved to Peacehaven and were looking for a great Indian restaurant, by chance we noticed the Viceroy in Newhaven. The choice of food was excellent, with a full vegan and vegetarian menu. Everything that was served was so fresh and tasty. They even prepared a Kashmiri curry for my partner that was not on the menu . The vegetable Jalfrezi tasted incredible. The onion bhajis must have been hand made minutes earlier so fresh and tasty. The staff were so polite and friendly. I suppose the only downside was that as they don't serve alcohol, I couldn't have a beer, however next time I will take my own . So, amazing food and friendly knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be returning. Or have a takeaway. One further positive, is the lack of MSG side effects, they obviously don't use this stuff or very little. Well done 👍

Arrived far before the expected delivery time and was very delicious.

A couple of weeks ago stayed with friends who took me to The Viceroy. Lovely restaurant, brilliant food and take your own wine. I had Tandoori Prawns which is my go-to dish at Indian restaurants. They were really good. Service was impeccable, good atmosphere and sensible prices. Highly recommended.

Ver delicious. Nothing was missing this time. I was all hot & very tasty. Recently I’d ordered from a restaurant near me in peacehaven. They do a dish that i line and they are much cheaper. The food swimming in oil. Too much sugar added to daises and the flavours were not balanced. Decided to pay the extra and order from Viceroy. The difference in quality is amazing. It’s expensive but a once a month treat for family is manageable.

The food was delivered on time, but the dishes ordered were lacking and watery. Incredibly disappointed, as they're usually our go-to restaurant for a curry. But the veggie Korma had three bits of potato, two bits of broccoli, and some peas in it, nothing else. Nearly £8 for a tray of sauce with minimal substance feels a lot like a rip-off. The tarka dall was also incredibly watery, and had very little in the way of lentils in it. Feel like I wasted my money tbh.

Great selection of meals and sides. My chosen dish was well presented and very tasty. The Viceroy isn't licensed for drinks but allows you to bring your own. There is however an off licence approx 100 metres walk away.

We didn't enjoy the food this time The stuffed paratha wasn't stuffed It was greasy aswel. The korma didn't have any veg in apart from potato It just wasn't up to the usual standard

Quit simply a bad takeaway. Cold food which was bland at best. 99% of it was disposed of accordingly. Absolute waste of money. 👎🏼

We were travelling on the overnight ferry from Newhaven so needed somewhere for dinner before hand so decided on the Viceroy. Really friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, food of good quality and excellent value. The restaurant isn't licensed so you're encouraged to bring your own, we actually prefer this as it means we can be sure we can bring a bottle of what we want rather than hoping it's on the menu! Definitely would recommend and would return.
