Bengal Palace in Lewes

I don’t like writing negative reviews. I really don’t. But this place was a bit meh. Nothing was ‘bad’ but nothing was particularly good either. The service was good and generally attentive but the food was disappointing and presentation was distinctly lacking. There were 2 full menus and perhaps that’s the problem - they do a lot of dishes but none of them particularly well?

Good food,good ambience , good service , friendly staff, what more can I say? Full drinks list ,plenty of food served person, you don't leave hungry. Delicious dishes.

Ordered a take away for 4 people on Saturday night costing £87. It took 1.40 mins to turn up after chasing twice and then the line was engaged. When the order did turn up it didn’t have our 2 naan breads included. Tried to contact to tell them but phone ringing out. Really disappointed with this service. If you can’t cope with the take away orders then be honest and say rather than waste my time. I want my refund too.

The food was overpriced,and they selling same products in different names..very disappointed

All curry looked the same and portion is too small.

My experience with the food and service was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The food was poorly prepared, lacking in flavor, and far from fresh. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly disappointing—slow, inattentive, and unprofessional. Overall, it was a deeply unsatisfying experience that I wouldn’t want to repeat.

'FOOD DOESNT REFLECT ON PRICE' unfortunately. We spent £45.00 on two tikka masalas, two basmati rice, 2 naans and a portion of chips. Now usually we order from the Viceroy, but thought we would try our local Indian and was very disappointed. The chicken was very chewy and the masala sauce didn't have much flavour, other than the taste of garlic. The only decent thing was the service was good, quite quick delivery and hot.

Bengal Palace Restaurant offers a homely and welcoming atmosphere. The biryani was the highlight—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The staff provided exceptional, friendly service. A great value for delicious food and a cozy dining experience. Highly recommended!

One of three Indian restaurants in Seaford. The Bengal has the most extensive menu but is also the most expensive. Food is excellent. I had Chicken Tarka which was well spiced and very tasty. Staff are good and friendly but it closes at 10.30pm and will only do take aways after 9.30

Service was good and food was tasty. The madras was nice and spicy and the Balti had lots of flavour. Drinks were quite reasonably priced too.

We're back in the UK and another delicious meal at the Bengal Palace. Amazing food and friendly staff.

I would say this is a very expensive curry house for what you get. The food is very average. Our food arrived Luke warm. The service started off good however as the restaurant got busier the service was very slow. I would say it is very overpriced for average food.

My first visit to this wonderful restaurant meeting old friends from Brighton. What a fantastic meal and ambience, great service, very varied menus, one of the best meals I have ever had in this cuisine, thank you.

I have been to this curry house numerous times and the food has always been delicious. I don't believe it is the cheapest curry and most are over £15 but the restaurant has a good atmosphere and serve Cobra's too (What's not to like?)

Visited The Bengal Palace with my family. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely staff. The service was brilliant and the food... well, it was fantastic. All the family loved their menu choices. I highly recommend a visit.

Staff were friendly and helpful but the place was empty on a Saturday night. The chicken dhansk was awful and had hairs it in we sent it back and they did remove the price from the bill was was very disappointed. The starters were good and the chutneys were delicious also were the prawns but the nann bread was disappointing. It was quite expensive compared to other Indian restaurants in the town too.

Food ok but quite bland and expensive. I have never paid £20 for an Indian main course before!! Staff very pleasant. Nice restaurant.

Absolutely delicious food! Service was 10/10 with very friendly and helpful waiters. I keep returning for multiple meals and would highly recommend visiting! Takeaway is also amazing from experience.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish 😃 The staff were welcoming and prompt, the food was cooked to order and very tasty, generous portions washed down with a few refreshing cold beers. We definitely recommend and we will be going back ☺️

Must try and must visit We were in Seaford for work and in this restraunt on a very quite day and expectations were very low knowing only 2 of us were there. But to our pleasant surprise the food was yummy. We have tried the Chefs special mixed biryani with lamb, prawns & chicken and Veg biryani. Both were very well made. The taste justified the higher price point

Came in off the cliffs with 30mins to spare before catching a train and the staff delivered some of the finest sizzling chicken tikka, aloo gobi and tarka dal we’ve had, all in about 6 minutes leaving us plenty of time to catch our train. Writing this in the Bengal Palace afterglow on the train back to Victoria. Perfect end to a perfect day thank you Bengal Palace!

Got a takeaway on a Saturday night which was ready on time and still hot when I got it home 5 minutes later. We had a chicken tikka bhuna, tandoori prawn, onion bhaji and tarka sagdahl. The chicken was nice but the ‘thick’ bhuna sauce was mostly onions as was the dahl which was supposed to be lentils and spinach. The bhajis were OK and prawns were good but then they should be for £20 (£5 each!). Disappointing as this place is not cheap.

One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at. The staff are very attentive, and the food sublime.

Brilliant restaurant with authentic food

Food okay, however lack of dietary knowledge. Also both ended up drinking many litres of water back at home and both felt like our throats were swelling. I would imagine, this can be attributed to large quantities of MSG in the food. We won't be returning.

Lovely unusual curry. Very tasty. Great service. Only stopped on the way home but much impressed. Shame it's not nearby our home.

Best Indian restaurant in Seaford!

Lamb shank on their taste menu is absolutely gorgeous and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend

I ordered a take away this evening & was told to collect the order in 45 mins. When I got the takeaway home all the dishes were stone cold - it must of been ready before the 45 mins and sitting on side! I called to complain, was told it’s a Saturday night they busy and next time we will give you a drink! We’ve been going to this restaurant for the last 15 years ! Tonight is the last time & menus are in the bin along with the takeaway! Waste of £67!! Not happy at all!

Very expensive 16.95 for a small average curry definitely won't be using again robbery. These restaurants used to be affordable thinking this would have been even more expensive if i had eaten in there.

Visited with my family for a dinner during a weekend holiday in Seaford. We tried paneer and chana with naan. I recommend to anyone who wants to try Indian cuisine in Seaford.

1st time ever leaving a review, but I got the urge to share what a lovely meal this place rocked out, i had the Achari it was perfect very tender chicken, finally ordered peshwari Nan that you actually taste like Peshwari 👌 only Con I had was the poppadoms sauses feel they could escalate to a bit more spice

Went to the bengal last night normally could not fault it But tonight I know they where busy but to wait 1 1/2 hrs to get your main course and we had to ask where it was , food was not great and we had a vegan dinner with us who was told we don’t cater for vegans how hard is it to make a quick vegetable vegan curry Very poor comment from the waiter very lazy chef we got out meal and wasn’t even asked if it was ok Also we where not the only ones last night one guy had a right go at the staff

As soon as we walked into Bengal Palace the atmosphere was welcoming and they sat us early as our table was already laid and ready. We then ordered our drinks which came quick and then our food which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! It was delicious and we enjoyed every last bit. The staff are the friendliest people in the world and they were always polite and checking on how everything was with our meal. I highly recommend this place for a family outing, night out with friends or a date night with your partner. Thank you for such a great night!

Solid choice for Indian in Seaford. Extensive menu with many dishes you do not easily find on many other Indian restaurant menus. Good for groups.

It’s a long time since I’ve had such a wonderful experience, the food was hot and fresh, the curry was excellent. I will give a A+++++++, delivery was quick, all together a lovey end to a wonderful day, thank you see you soon.

Worst Experience, Menu is misleading, no authenticity of dishes, everything was sweet, common we are not here for dessert, staff bit rude as well.

Worst way to end my trip to Brighton & Seven seas was by having a dinner at this restaurant. Food was too sweet and the stuff wasn’t friendly. I wouldn’t suggest this restaurant for Indian authentic food lovers..

We telephoned late after completing part of the South Downs Way. The staff were so accommodating and cooked us a selection of dishes which were ready on our arrival. We had such a lovely time and had a look at all the cricket bats from the Bangladesh test side. Thank you so much.

I love my Indian food and have just come back from Australia where we were spoiled for great Indian in Sydney !! Have just moved to Seaford and had seen this place and decided to give it a go as the reviews were good and it looked nice. Well it did not disappoint !! My friend and I went there last night 18/06/22. It was busy and had a great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive. We took a little while to order as we were catching up but no pressure was put on us. We ordered our starters and after a little wait they arrived. Boy were they good !!! We ordered from the adventure in taste menu and they were just that. We had the Mysore chilli prawns and the Ragda potato patties with the chickpea curry on top. I could have eaten that all night it was heaven !! For mains we ordered the Dhingri Palak - spinach and mushrooms YUM and a chicken Jalfrezi with some rice (non greasy) and lovely naan which wasn;t thick and doughy like some can be. Overall we were very impressed and shall be back with other friends to share and will recommend to anyone who likes decent Indian food and not the orange oily slop you get in a lot of places. Well done guys and thanks for a lovely Saturday evening meal. My new local !!!

This restaurant has been here for years and it does what it does very well; standard Indian food that the Brits know and love. Though some of the dishes could do with a bit of modernisation or a bit more spice, it has a good menu of all you might want and the staff are great.

Absolutely beautiful food served by very friendly and accommodating staff. Highly recommended but I would suggest that you pre book so you're not disappointed. I cannot recommend highly enough and I came across from France for it.

My husband and I went to the Bengal Palace over a month ago. Firstly, for the price of the food, we expected it to better quality. The chicken had gristle in it. The curry sauce was far too spicy without any other flavour. The young, tall male manager was very rude to a customer, who my husband and I thought had Autism, who had politely asked to use his lavatory and thank him in a very well mannered way. The manager was extremely arrogant and rude, unnecessarily. My husband, who had had experience with Autistic young adults, was appalled by this even after the man apologised in a very polite manner. We will not be eating here again.

We came to "The Bengal Palace", Seaford on our way from Seven Sisters. We were 4 adults and a toddler. Reached there around 7:30 evening. Ambience was good. It took 30 min for someone like Mr. X's calibre to come and take our orders. Placed an order for veg stuffed paratha (for the toddler), garlic mushroom, and a glass of coffee. Mr. X did show an arrogant or rather sarcastic face when we placed this order, his arrogance or rather his response came from the fact that we were 4 and order that we had placed pretty less per his standards (please note Mr. X that it depends on customer how much food they would like to order, it does not depend on you or restaurant, hope you will take that into consideration in near future). More so, it seemed that Mr. X did not want to serve us, came to us and said that stuffed paratha may take 25 min to prepare due to the waiting time, if its OK with you, we can prepare, else you guys can take the next step to move out of the resto because we cannot serve you fast. The series of events went on. The salt/pepper and the plates kept on our table were surprisingly taken by Mr. Y to another empty table even before our order had come, seemed as if they were in rush to move us out of the restaurant. Pretty disgusting. The stuffed paratha came with no salt, garlic mushroom was not up to the mark and was too oily. The coffee was ok. Finally, when we asked for a bill, Mr. X provided the total bill rather than mentioning the split up of items we ordered in a hand-written note. We paid via card without asking any questions. Upon asking the bill/receipt, Mr. X made a sarcastic face, very inappropriate and unexpected. So Mr. X, please treat the customers well next time no matter what they order. Also, would be great if you could improve upon the attitude of serving customers rather than showing arrogance or irritation. Please do ask the customers whether they liked the food or not, no matter what they order. We are really annoyed with the unpleasant service and do expect some action to be taken for this occurence or at least not to treat next set of customers in this manner. Also having a good ambience but an unpleasant dining experience goes a lot in deciding what the customer wants next time when he/she visits the place. I may not expect a response or apologies from you guys, its absolutely fine for me, but please make sure that Mr. X,Y,Z may not show arrogance or inappropriate behavior in front of a new customer in the near future. I gave one additional star (2 stars) only because of ambience and coffee was just OK, would have given 1 based on service and rest of the food that arrived. Terrible experience.

Went on a Saturday night. Premises quite full and noisy with conversations. Service quite slow but staff running around busy all the time attending to customers that had arrived before our party. Drinks and popodums served, Kingfisher beer in bottles was lovely. Eventually our order arrived and it was delicious. Can't remember name of what I had but it was quite hot, the way I like it without blowing your head off. Best curry I have had in ages. The amount of people in there is testiment to the kind of restaurant it is, great!!!

Lovely food. Excellent. Very nervous as very rarely out by myself as not my usual circumstance. Not made to feel welcome. Reported feedback to management about being a woman eating out on own. My feedback I felt was fair and tried to be friendly as food was great but response very poor. Very sad to see such a response. Would not visit this restaurant again as a result.

First it must be said that we made the mistake of booking for a Friday night and the place was heaving. The staff members were as welcoming and efficient as usual. We never mind waiting between courses as it normally gives a chance to chat...

Just had our first takeaway from Bengal Palace & it was just amazing , our chicken chilli masala tikka was to die for & the keema Naan was amazing as was the rest of our meal, beautifuly cooked & delivered hot by a lovely fella . Will definitely be ordering again next weekend.

Sadly this was the second time I have had a disappointing take away from here. On this occasion both meals ordered were just running in oil and totally without flavour. I think its time to try elsewhere.

Despite turning up unannounced on a Saturday evening just as they were getting very busy [weekends best booked in advance generally] they were still able to accommodate us. Food excellent. Decent family-run Bangladeshi restaurant. Called on a Saturday night for delivery. I was told that would take 1.5 hours, so opted to collect - which was supposed to be 1 hour. My food was late so I was offered a Tiger beer - ice cold bottle opened in front of me, clearly no dodgy business here (some restaurants serve open bottles filled with draught beer that may even have been watered). Lamb Chettinad from the separate Taste menu was very nice and pretty hot - portion was enough for two people. Onion bhaji starter - four pieces (in balls) - was also good. But chicken bhuna was disappointingly bland and chicken chunks in it seemed to have come from a packet. Restaurant was very busy with diners, who all seemed happy - apparently at weekends you need to book a table 5-7 days ahead. Looks a great place to eat in.

A really nice curry in a good location; nothing stands out compared to other similar restaurants in the area but its a good safe place, I would recommend.

Service, food & the atmosphere were all excellent. Would recommend this venue & will go back.
