Stopped off for a late lunch here on Bank hol Monday, before taking the lovely if rather steep walk up Mt Caburn (footpath access for which is opposite). What a find. We had a table in the attractive garden and I had an individual small quiche with salad and my husband had the soup of the day (carrot ad roasted pepper I think), both of which were really tasty. Then we shared a plain scone (fruit also available) with clotted cream and jam. Excellent textured fresh scone. We hope to return soon to sample the cakes - they had 5 or 6 to choose from. The full afternoon teas with a selection of little cut sandwiches which were presented on cake stands looked beautiful too. Staff were friendly and helpful despite being busy.

This is a wonderfully idyllic spot, quintessential English garden and tea room, absolutely gorgeous. The afternoon tea was served on beautiful Alice in Wonderland crockery. There was a vegetarian option and dogs were allowed in the garden at least. The food was mixed in quality. The scones and the cheese and pickle sandwiches were totally delicious, but 2 out of 3 of the cakes were dry and the humous sandwiches had no hummous in them. The service was mind bogglingly slow - after a prompt, we got our afternoon tea 50 minutes after arriving, and the extra milk and dog water requested never came. It also seems over-priced. Once you factor in the mandatory service charge, it's around £25 per person for a cup of tea, slice of cake, scone and a few sandwiches - which seems a lot.

Had afternoon cream tea, very good experience, very small tea rooms not sure what would have happened if it had rained hard only small inside area, but the outside garden is with nice, the cream tea was very good and plenty of it served on lovely china. The staff were very helpful and we didn't have to wait long for our food to come. The only slight issue is the parking very little directly outside shop have to park around corner in village car park but not much of a problem as nice walk through pretty village.

My husband and I visited the tea shop for an afternoon tea on a beautiful sunny afternoon so we were able to sit outside in the lovely gardens. We were warmly welcomed and showed to a very pretty table laid with a white tablecloth and chive tea set. The service was very quick and very friendly and professional. We had pre booked an afternoon and were offered a choice of teas and cakes. The food was delicious - the scones were amazing, and the cakes were so moist and tasty. It was such a lovely afternoon - in a really wonderful setting. I would definitely recommend a visit x

Stopped off for a coffee and cake today. Service was very slow despite the place being nearly empty. Cake portions were very small and the cake was dry and not particularly pleasant. Nearly £17 for two coffees and two tiny slices of cake is a joke ….. we won’t be coming back.

Gorgeous garden setting, but very over priced afternoon tea at £20 for 4 basic finger sandwiches, a scone, small slice of dry cake, cold tea (served too early). 45 minute wait for food, even with prebooking. Cakes not baked on site.

A family member had given us a gift card for Afternoon Tea and I chose Little cottage Tea room as the reviews were good, it looks pretty in the photos and there's some lovely countryside for a walk nearby. Sadly, the weather was not on our side so, although we were able to have a short walk in the immediate vicinity, we decided against the longer walk we'd planned . However, everything else about our visit was fantastic. The Tea room is indeed such an attractive place and our afternoon tea was a delicious feast: four varieties of little sandwiches, scones with cream & jam and a large slice of cake (from a choice) each, plus coffee as we don't drink tea - all served on pretty crockery. The inside is quite small with limited seating , but outside is the most delightful garden overlooking the countryside and with lots of tables. I only saw this briefly when I went to the toilet, but I can imagine it would be love to enjoy tea outside in such an environment. The owner is welcoming and friendly and really does provide a wonderful experience. We definitely plan to return in better weather when we can have a good walk and then reward ourselves with afternoon tea in the garden!

Rather disappointing and very over priced at £20 for a round of sandwiches, scone and slice of cake. Oh and a pot of tea. If you wanted coffee you had to pay extra! Received as a gift and although it was ok and a pleasant garden to sit in I would not return.

Visited this delightful place today for lunch. I wanted to take my friend to somewhere special and it certainly was. Placed under a beautiful silver birch tree, comfortable seats . Will definitely do this again. And again.

From the outside it looks like a very small cottage with about enough room inside for two tables but, walk through into the garden and it stretches back as far as you can see with tables and parasols spread around. Service was good and the food excellent. We only pipped in for a quick drink and a cake and ended up having afternoon tea with scones, strawberry jam and fresh clotted cream, Very nice and all at a very reasonable price. Its a popular place and would recommend booking before visiting. Looking at other tables the full Afternoon tea package looked amazing and enough food to ensure you did not leave hungry. Will be back.

I had a significant birthday pending so was wondering how to mark the occasion. All of my women friends enjoy tea & cake so I searched East Sussex for a suitable venue for a Prosecco Afternoon Tea. The Little Cottage Tea Room seemed a possibility so I visited & spoke with Jo, the proprietor, to see what could be organised for ten of us plus two under fours. Jo was so lovely & the Afternoon Tea with a glass of Prosecco each was really reasonable. On the day I greeted my friends outside then Jo showed us all to our table. The garden was really pretty but we were lead right to the bottom of the garden into a separate, more private area. The large table was laid out with vintage, embroidered, white lace tablecloths & matching vintage porcelain china cups, saucers & plates with silver cake slices. There were flowers on the table & a large white umbrella shading us from the afternoon sun. There was a separate table laid out with champagne flutes. Jo asked if we preferred fruit or plain scones then filled our glasses, while the two girls who were serving brought large pots of tea, with milk jugs. All three then brought down the most gorgeous Afternoon Tea-a variety of small finger sandwiches, scones with separate pots of strawberry jam & clotted cream then the most delicious selection of locally-made cakes-absolute heaven. One of the cakes had candles & Jo got everyone singing Happy Birthday, it was just lovely. The two children were able to get up & down at will as we were so separate to the (busy) rest of the garden so we didn’t have to worry about them. My celebration more than exceeded my expectations & I would thoroughly recommend Jo & her team wholeheartedly. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was gorgeous & myself & my friends & family had an absolutely wonderful time. Thank you Jo

Gorgeous gardens at this little tearoom in the Post Office and Shop at Glynde. My husband said it was the best tearoom he'd been to. We did have a bit of a blip however, as I decided to email them and book a table for 4 for afternoon tea, not realising that afternoon tea meant the whole works i.e. sandwiches, selection of cakes, scones, jam and cream at £13.75 per person which they prepare specially in advance. Apparently you can't book if you are having their cream tea or tea and cakes. As it was my husbands birthday and we were going there especially I didn't want to get there and find it full up. However, I now realise that probably isn't a problem as there are lots of tables and chairs in the garden as well as inside although they had said inside was fully booked that day. We had a lovely time under the gazebo with the table laid prettily and luckily the sun come out. Jo the lady I had booked with realised we had made a mistake as we only wanted the cream tea for 3 and cake for one. All the cakes are gluton free and quite delicious. So we will definitely go again but remember not to book!

Friends who live nearby took us for a cream tea here. Even though the tearoom adjoins the combined post office and shop, we might not have noticed the little front door of the tiny cottage was a tearoom if we'd been travelling past. It was a chilly afternoon so we were glad to find seating indoors. There are only 15 seats and we were told that all were filled from mid-morning through lunchtime, but that wouldn't be a problem on a sunny day as there are plenty more tables in the pretty garden out the back.

We booked last minute for my mum's birthday, and were told they could only fit in a maximum of 4 of us due to being busy, which was perfect as we were 4. When we arrived the staff were friendly, the table was all laid up ready and it looked really pretty. Our waitress took drinks orders almost right away and explained how the cream tea worked, and rapidly brought out our orders. The scones and sandwiches were delicious, we found the cakes to be a little too sweet (if that's possible with cake haha), and overly moist, would have liked to have something a little more traditional like a regular sponge cake, at least as one of the choices, as the others were strongly flavoured. A minor criticism however as we very much enjoyed our visit.

Popped in here on the off chance and was pleasantly surprised. A lovely cafe, we couldn't sit outside as it was quite busy but the interior was pleasant.

Glynde is a walkers paradise and this is a must to reserve. There are a few tables inside and a beautiful cottage garden at the back. The hostess was super friendly , it felt like a really personal experience ! Everything was great, massive tea with really tasty sandwiches freshly prepared, great hunks of fresh, homemade cake, delicious and we took the cake home as too full ! Cannot recommend this gem highly enough. There is also a Facebook page for area events which may be worth checking as I suspect this tearoom gets very booked up and rightly so !

Me and my friend visited Lewes one Saturday in hopes we would find a lovely tea room for the afternoon. We were disappointed that the majority of them had closed down and the only one we could find were shut for a private function. I searched the web for tea rooms and came across the Little Cottage Tea Room and Gardens. We were delighted at the beautiful quiet location set in Glynde which is a short drive from Lewes. Although it wasn't the warmest day on our trip it was sunny so we sat outside with knitted blankets and had a wonderful afternoon tea for two which comprised of a selection of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and pots of tea with knitted tea cosies. This is the place to go for an idyllic afternoon tea on a summers day.

We spotted this tea room when driving through Glynde and so glad we did! A small room indoors and a lovely garden outside. Super cream tea on old China plates. There's a mini gypsy caravan as a children's playhouse.

Stopped off here for tea & cake as we had read some great reviews. Not disappointed lovely big pot of tea to share for the two of us & cakes were delicious. We sat inside but garden looked lovely. Will definitely visit again.

I went to this tea rooms on the strength of the many excellent reviews on here, to be honest, I wish I hadn't bothered.

Friendly staff let down by a limited menu. Tea fine (bags but come in pots with proper cups and tea cosies). My cream tea had a scone that had clearly been defrosted from frozen using a microwave. Slightly frozen interior. Companions' reviews were mixed. Cake good but poor choice of hot food. Adequate if you are gasping and in the area, but for now not worth making a special trip to.

Found this place (attached to the village post office) whilst on a circular walk to mount caburn, Stoppped off in in the morning at the post office for a take-away tea and coffee and purchase the best sausage rolls I have ever had. On the way back to the car we stopped off at the tea rooms for a drink. Enchanting a lovely garden and lovely staff.

Glynde is a very pretty village and this tea room located just off the main road through the village is a real find. A good selection of teas, home made cakes is available, but for me the best part is lovely garden at the rear which is so pretty and full of charm. The little shepherds hut is loved by children especially.

What a lovely little tearoom. Came with the family for a treat, and we weren't disappointed. The Glynde high tea was amazing, you got 3 different toppings on open sandwiches on locally made bread, tiffin, macarons, lime and coconut cake, and a huge scone with jam and tonnes of clotted cream! You get a big pot of tea as well rather than just a small pot or cup. The staff and owner are really friendly, welcoming and attentive as well. Would recommend booking as it is limited seating inside, although there is outside seating but was a bit chilly and rainy when we went.

The gardens are very nice and it's a comfortable place to have lunch. The lunch was great - a large portion of delicious homemade salmon flan, a very nice salad and delicious olive bread. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

An impromptu outing from Brighton for lunch, our first visit but we'd heard about this place from friends.

Despite the dismal weather our trip to this lovely English tea shop was well worth the effort. The Glynde afternoon tea is generous and reasonably priced. If you aren't keen on open sandwiches made with artisan bread then you can order traditional finger sandwiches although the former are delicious. The scones are huge! It is easy to find the tea room from the station as it is well signposted. The staff were friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful but due to the weather we sat inside. Unfortunately we couldn't manage all the cakes but we were able to take them home. This is a little gem of a place and well worth a visit.

if you're looking for a classic English tea room in a beautiful Sussex village, this is the place for you. I visited with my wife, elderly mother and her friend. We were able to park right outside the tea room on our visit. We sat in the lovely cottage garden and had traditional tea, scones and cakes. The tea was particular good, made from local spring water and served in china cups from a teapot with a knitted cosy. The scones and cakes were home made and tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Glynde is a beautiful Sussex village and the Little Cottage Tea Room and Gardens is a highlight of a visit to the village.

A real find, unless you read about this place you wouldn't really find it . Pick a sunny day and head for the garden. There is a small gypsy caravan for children to play in. The staff are dog lovers. We had clotted cream scones and fresh jam, very yummy in a pretty very typical English setting. Childrens playground next door.

I've been here on a few occasions and it's always excellent. The staff are really friendly and happy to help with anything you ask for. The food is seriously delicious; I've enjoyed breakfast, the Glynde afternoon tea, and a simple coffee and cake (proper coffee in a cafetiere). The garden is a really beautiful place to sit and the village is a lovely walk from Lewes. Generally just a great place!

Looked up cafes for breakfast near the port and found this gem. Nothing to look at as its a porta cabin but inside its clean and the food is excellent. Thick bread and butter, great breakfasts and very reasonable prices. Love the dog but not sure everyone would appreciate the staff stroking the dog and then continuing to serve food but we love dogs and doesn't bother us. The tea and coffee were best tasted, not fancy just proper tea and coffee. Would definately recommend, parking at the rear too. Easy to walk from port or premier inn, and great value. Staff very friendly and will definitely return next trip to Newhaven.

The kind lady serving was so helpful providing us with a ramp for my mother in law to get her wheel chair into the cafe. The food and drink was great and we will definitely be going back again..

A plate of happiness in every visit. Chilled little cafe that sells excellent fruit and vegetables, great coffee and can even get a glass of wine but I like the breakfasts and a tea :)
