The Green Man in Lewes

First time visit today, we booked a table for 12.30 which glad we did as by 1pm was getting busier which we liked as was a nice atmosphere. We ordered a smaller appitite meal and a baguette... Wow the portion was huge and absolutely lovely! Couldn't believe the sizes for the price. All the waiting staff polite girls

Visited with family today! Meals were massive but food was not great! Could not finish due the size and being unappetising! Same with desserts! We would have rather had smaller portions of better food! Service not great! Young and inexperienced waiting staff ! Would not come back unfortunately 🙁

Always amazing size portions, good price point and atmosphere. The puddings are AMAZING for quality and value for money. The staff are casual but very professional and a pleasure to speak to. The roast dinners are delicious and burgers too. Have visited many times and always busy but never felt overcrowded or too noisy. Christmas is magical here too!

Well I looked at some VERY SCATHING comments and have come to the conclusion that some people must have been to a different Green Man? My wife and I arrived about 15 mins early for our reserved table and was told NOT A PROBLEM. We sat down and our drinks order was taken about a minute later and they arrived within about 5 minutes. Our food order was taken a few minutes later and arrived within about 10-15 minutes the starter was finished and the mains arrived within 5-10 minutes and it was all brilliant. All my wife and I can say is Thank You Green Man for a cracking experience and WE WILL BE BACK. 😋😀👍💂‍♂️

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a lovely young lady. She showed us to our table. Our drinks were served promptly and we were given the menus. We had such a lovely lunch. Dietary requirements were catered for with no problem whatsoever. Service was excellent! We were a party of three on Friday lunch. Would highly recommend, especially if you like large portions. It was a shame I could not finish mine, however, my husband and friend did manage theirs!

This great Pub always was five star for food, quality and service at a very reasonable price, and it still is. I first came here while building the shops and houses in Springett Avenue, as a young Quantity Surveyor, over fifty years ago.

We didn’t book to be fair but there was certainly no warm welcome just a lack lustre indication of available tables by the female server which left us feeling an inconvenience. No menus were forthcoming either or quick communication wrt how to order. We made a swift exit and, having now read recent reviews, looks like we dodged a bullet.

We went for a family Sunday lunch. Pre booking a table is advisable, as is always mega busy! We all chose to have the roast which includes a dessert in the price. 2 lamb & 1 beef Vegetables come separately which can be crunchy, you can ask to be put in the microwave to make them softer . The meat comes on top of crunchy roast potatoes with a portion of gravy already poured on top. Yorkshire pudding also included. Service can take time of mega bush but this should be expected when place is packed out. Always visit here, food tastes good and the portions are huge so defo no going hungry here !

Not sure why some comments here are as bad as they are, this pub is "PUB GRUB" with very good portions, everything is freshly cooked, veg is crisp! not soggy or overcooked, the Pub offers value for money, very busy with a good friendly atmosphere, will most certainly come back with our Family when we are in Lewes area again

Booked a table of 26 weeks ago arrived at the venue no tables set up and no roasts on the menu There excuse was we’ve had loads of people today Well then my answer is if you new you had a table of 26 booked in weeks ago and it’s a busy Sunday your kitchen should be well prepared by cooking extra meat to cater for your bookings Or don’t agree for a table of 26 all expecting to have a roast. Complete disappointment I used to love this place I would not be coming back

What a fabulous time we had. We changed our mind where we would sit, the staff accommodated our change very well. It was an excellent experience all round. The food was very good value, the staff were efficient despite being so busy. Thank you all, especially Amy .

We were about 16 people on a long table. The staff were excellent: helpful and friendly, and after orders were taken, it was not a long time before the food arrived. Costs for main courses are very reasonable, and I ordered a rare ribeye steak for £21.99. It comes with mushrooms, mashed potatoes and a tomato. The mash seemed as though it had been under the "warmer" for a while, as the edges were brown and crispy. I could have managed that without complaining, but sadly the steak and the mushrooms were very, very garlicky. I have not had a steak with garlic at a restaurant for a long time, so it never occurred to me to ask for it to be cooked without. I cannot be sure, but I suspect that the garlic was not fresh, but shaken out of a bottle after cooking, as one long edge of the steak was not garlicky, and some of the mushrooms were not either i.e. the shaker of "garlic salt" (or whatever) had not covered everything. We do not eat garlic, so my meal was totally spoilt, and I ate hardly anything of my main course, although the "ungarlicked" part I did eat of my steak was good. Maybe staff could ask people ordering steak whether they wish it to be served with garlic because, as said above, most pubs/restaurants do not use garlic on steaks. And the man opposite me who had (I think) a mixed grill, said that his food was also very garlicky which he could have done without. However, the desserts were good, and I cannot fault the waiting staff, who did well. Sizes are very generous and, had it not been for the unwanted and unexpected garlic which totally ruined my meal, this would probably have been a 5-star review.

We came here with some friends on a Sunday and our table was booked for 2.30. Our table was just about ready when we arrived. Adter fighting through the crouds of people we got to our table. It took about 20 mins for our order to be taken and although the food was good, the service was shocking. Not to say the staff were unfriendly at all because they weren't at all. They were just was too busy and I felt we were forgotten about after ever course. I felt I spent my whole time trying to get attention to the girls to order food, drinks, deserts and bill. Would I go again? Yes probably but not in a hurry. However the food itself was lovely. Roast beef was nice, not enough gravy but asked for extra and that was no issue.

I had an amazing time at The Green Man! Great service, great drinks, great location. We came with a large group and the staff were incredibly generous and kind!

Shame to see a nice pub slipping downhill, arrived at 7.30pm only one staff doing the bar and it was only her second shift! God knows when the outside was last swept or cleaned up there was rubbish and food on the floor all round and you can’t say it was from the lunchtime, what was a lovely outside is now a bit like a rubbish tip, none of the nice furniture maintained, if they don’t mind us seeing that then it makes me wonder what the kitchen is like! We were last there about two years ago and all the dining chairs were stained and apparently they were only replaced last week! That was our last visit, will not be going back even for a free meal, shame when a couple build up a nice business then sit back and let it run itself

It’s the best good value fantastic staff. All I can say is they have got it right thanks for being perfect even my dog love it what more do you want

We visited here for a birthday dinner. The staff on foh were lovely and very helpfull. We had some starters which were all ok, but the mains were awful, chips overcooked, food cold, burgers dry and overcooked, steaks were fatty. All round it was a disaster. We had one meal replaced and another taken of the bill, we should have asked for more to be taken off but by this point we just couldn’t be bothered. Such a shame as this pub used to be amazing it really has gone down hill… But massive thanks to stephanie on the foh team. She couldn’t do enough to help us. The chef or chefs really do need to improve on their food cooking skills…

We have been to the green man lots of times it is our go to place when we are in the uk. You can be assured that you will have a big meal and very friendly service. It is in Ringmer in Sussex near Lewes. There is a beer garden out side if you wish to sit out. Inside there is loads of room to sit and relax. The people that own the pub are very nice and friendly

If your looking for good food at great prices then the green man is the place to visit. You do get large amounts of food on your plate but you just have to ask for a smaller portions but if your really hungry you won't be disappointed. The staff are first class too always happy to help. So is definitely recommended by me and my friends plus am sure lots more other customers.

We were a party of twelve that came to enjoy a nice lunch after a wedding. Everything was delicious and the service was great. We ordered a mixed grill, sweet & sour chicken, and other dishes like steak and Guinness pie, not knowing that the portion sizes are huge. They had to provide the veg on a separate plate as there was no room. The dessert was equally impressive. Thankfully, we were able to get some containers to take any leftover food home. We all agreed that we will definitely be back soon. There's more food on the menu that we haven't had yet! 😉

Lovely food, generous portions and very tasty! I had Thai lamb curry and my husband had Ham Egg and chips. Both meals were well cooked, hot and delicious. The prices were extremely reasonable too. We will definitely be back!

One of my fave pubs! Food fab and plentiful and staff were great! Enjoyed our roast lunches and impressed with the free dessert that accompanies the roasts! The honeycomb cheesecake was yum! Will be back!

Was a little worried about coming here as I clearly went on the busiest day. The cups were all placed on the side of the bar - a good 50+ glasses and was a little loud in the pub area. When we was seated, I was amazed at how big the portions were and the food was amazing, although service was slow at times. I have since been here another two times! Was recommended to myself and my partner and now it’s become one of our most favourite places to eat.

Just out and about and came in for early dinner/late lunch with a couple of teenagers . I feel restored and they are well fed and watered . The waitresses were lovely , accomodating and patient .
