Friendly and convenient for walkers, cyclists or anyone passing! I enjoyed a delicious homemade cake and fresh brewed coffee. Moderately disappointed that the sausage rolls had sold out

This venue at Tollgate is a super stop for me as it’s on my main cycling routes - I’ve been stopping by weekly for months now and the coffee is the best, bacon and avo sandwiches are superb and Kim and Sophie are always so friendly. A must for all cyclists looking for a really worthwhile break. Thanks guys, for all your hard work! Best Alan

The best sausage rolls I've tasted - flaky pastry, pork supplied by a local farm in Steyning. Homemade fresh pastries and cakes. Excellent coffee. Highly recommended

Situated on the cycle lane at the Glynde turn off, just before Firle, this is perfect for cyclists. Coffee was lovely and a delicious sausage roll got me home on my 30 mile cycle ride. Will be stopping again!

Coffee and loo stop when I needed it most. Really great coffee. Reasonable selection of eats. Friendly service. Only criticism was portable loo which was adequate.

Always so friendly - you won’t get a better cup of coffee in Sussex :) Also, super convenient pull-in location, just as you approach/leave Brighton travelling East ie. from-to Eastbourne, Hasting etc. Sb

What a hidden gem! We stopped here needing refreshments after a long drive and we were not dissapointed. Firstly the service was fantastic, Kim the owner was not going to be beaten by my fussy 4yr old and met every request with a smile on her face! Secondly, deliciously smooth coffee and my daughter said the Passion Springs smoothie was amazing. We weren't particularly hungry, but the sausage rolls looked to good to leave behind so we brought some home for tea - the Black pudding and mustard, the onion chutney and of course the tradional were all mouth-watering. We will definitely be back soon!

This is a really lovely cafe and tea room, particularly in the summer when you can use the courtyard garden. The real negative about it is the appalling way they dress their waitresses. They are all in Victorian style maids uniforms with aprons, so disgraceful in this day and age that women are expected to dress in this way. I’ve never seen any male staff there but if there were would they really be dressed as Victorian servants? So derogatory to women I’ve now started to go to the Green Welly down the road which at least appears to treat their staff with more respect. In light of the owners response I would like to add that I had no idea this was a 1940s themed cafe, obviously there’s a Vera Lynne room but otherwise it’s just a quirky cafe. Not sure where the piles of cakes, tea garden, huge breakfasts and avocado smash fit into a 40s ration book theme but these are welcome additions if not the treatment of serving staff.
