The best restaurants in Staveley-in-Cartmel South Lakeland North West

We visited the hotel after its recent refurbishment and we had a lovely time. The room we stayed in was done to a really high standard and had a great view. The staff were lovely. Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend.

We turned up to Heft at 6pm on a Sunday. Parking is pretty tough so beware and if your coming from Cartmel area some farmer tracks. Luckily the food was worth it. Me and my partner shared the beef rib and it was probably the best beef I've had, sides were great, the cauliflower cheese with hazelnuts was my wife's fave along with the amazing mac and cheese, would request that they added maybe a couple more solid sides. We did three Michelin star restaurants in the lakes, two of four of our group said this was there fave. Need to have the taster menu next time!

We decided to visit the car museum, as the weather was not great. As we had not had lunch we decided to pop into the cafe. We have been before and it is always really busy. We opted for the curry option which was really tasty and very good quality. It did not take long for us to get our food, which set us up for the rest of the afternoon. A great day out, highly recommend!

We visited after we had been to the museum. We are frequent visitors to Cafe Ambio at Astley Park so thought we’d try this one. Between us we had a beef sandwich, a children’s lunch box, chips, hot drinks, cake and ice cream. The food and drinks were all hot and tasty. The kids sandwich was in a brioche bun which my son didn’t like and the ham was quite fatty. It does state on the menu it’s a roll not bread but it didn’t mention brioche- this was a huge issue for my son who has sensory issues. The staff were friendly and efficient, the place was clean and welcoming. I was stunned by how much more expensive it is compared to the other Cafe Ambio.

We look forward to coming here for lunch every time we come to the lakes. The Croque Madame is delicious! Staff are really friendly... highly recommend.

Outstanding food! My partner and I really enjoyed our visit here. We didn’t stay in the hotel but would consider it on our next visit. The staff were really lovely and made us feel very welcome. We both had starters- I had Pork Cheeks and my boyfriend had Camembert- both were incredible! For mains I had Chicken, Bacon, Leek Pie which came with sautéed potatoes, green beans and gravy. My boyfriend had Fillet Steak, which came with chips, tomatoes, broccoli, mushroom purée and he asked for a Wine Sauce. Wow! Both our meals were fantastic. We had no room for pudding but what we ate was very well worth it and we will be back!

Excellent service , our first visit to the masons, we were served by Andy, mihaela and Amy, they were all very attentive and made us feel very welcome, food was lovely, beautiful place , will definitely be back in the summer , hopefully to stay

Heft excelled themselves this weekend! They hosted an amazing wedding... beautiful, tasty, elegant food, stunning decor and the most polite, friendly, hardworking, efficient staff I have come across. Many people I spoke last night were in awe of your effort and I wish you all the luck going forward with the beautiful new rooms! Great food, super atmosphere , idiosyncratic in a wonderful way. Would visit again and again. Steam Train is an added bonus

Visited a few times in our week stay. Great drinks, delicious food and lovely friendly staff. Thanks for being so lovely with the kids and giving them memories with Milo! Highly recommend. Hopefully we will be back!

Great location for the races at Cartmel but the lack of staff was evident in the overall running of the premises. Service was lovely and the breakfast meal was decent but everything was looking a little tired and in need of a good sprucing up. Ideal for an overnight stop if you are going to the races or visiting Ulverston or Windermere.

When we arrived at the pub at 6.00 last Thursday evening for a meal we were the only people in the restaurant, we placed our order to a lady in a fleece!!!! Not very professional, we placed our order starters & main course, we waited 45 mins for the meal to arrive, when it arrived it was our main course no starters my husband said to the the young lad where was our starters!!!! He said he didn't know we ordered starters did we still want them we said yes he came back & told us they had not been ordered, he took the main meal back & we asked him not to keep the meal warm & we don't want it to be heated up, another long wait for starters to come prawn cocktail was disgusting it was served on a limp dark lettuce leaf. After another long wait main meal arrived the sirloin steak meal I ordered was not very nice the steak was very light in colour it did not look like a steak & it was tasteless also the chips were frozen thin cut chips, think on we were the only People in the restaurant so they were not rushed of there feet. The ambiance of the pub could be better it is not a very good advert to see the double wall lights bulbs with only one bulb working in all of them!!! I wonder if they are short of money as it looks like they cutting down on funds which is not a very good advert for the customers. This pub was a great pub years ago & it looks like it is struggling, needs something done with the ambiance & better served meal!!!! This pub could lend itself of being a great pub with good meals!!!

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options,not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

Poor choice of food and very expensive. £8:50 for a cheeseburger chips £3:95. Also not the best quality. If travelling on the steam railway probably better to plan ahead and bring a picnic.
