It is a SUPER dog friendly Bed & Breakfast nestled in the heart of Cartmel Valley! The hotel is absolutely stunning & the staff truly make you feel spoilt with their evening turndown service & glass of champagne on arrival. They didn't forget about our dog either, she was also treated like royalty with her orthopedic bed, doggy welcome pack & treats throughout her stay. They even have a doggy shower room which is PERFECT after long walks in the Lakes!!! The breakfast was absolutely delicious and used local products from the area. In the evening we used the complimentary chauffeur service for a lift into the beautiful village of Cartel (we chose to walk back through the gorgeous fields surrounding the hotel). Honestly this was such a beautiful stay.

Visited the tea rooms after our lovely trip up on the steam train. As much as I understand it is a tourist tea room, and they are only open for the tourist season, the prices are expensive. We bought a latte, hot chocolate which was a normal one with no extras and 2 scones with jam/cream. The prices are expensive it was £18 and I was quite shocked at the price.

We wish we’d found The Angler’s Arms at the start of our 3 day break; had we found it sooner, we wouldn’t have bothered with The Dolly Blue (awful food, no atmosphere) or The Swan (gorgeous place, average food, glacially slow service) The Angler’s offered great food, friendly & prompt service and good price. Thanks team!

Been going to this place for years and it’s always been good but it’s climbed to new heights. Smaller menu containing some classics like smoked haddock chowder but some exciting new additions and this is why we keep going back. Korean fried butter milk chicken in a sesame roll with iceberg lettuce and pickled cabbage - wonderful. Maple roast pork belly with celeriac, cabbage and apple slaw - fabulous. Yew tree breakfast - a real treat. If this wasn’t enough get to their regular Friday bistro nights at the outdoor BBQ - you’ll be blown away. Rustic, informal, friendly and top notch nosh.

Outstanding food! My partner and I really enjoyed our visit here. We didn’t stay in the hotel but would consider it on our next visit. The staff were really lovely and made us feel very welcome. We both had starters- I had Pork Cheeks and my boyfriend had Camembert- both were incredible! For mains I had Chicken, Bacon, Leek Pie which came with sautéed potatoes, green beans and gravy. My boyfriend had Fillet Steak, which came with chips, tomatoes, broccoli, mushroom purée and he asked for a Wine Sauce. Wow! Both our meals were fantastic. We had no room for pudding but what we ate was very well worth it and we will be back!

The room looked inviting initially as we arrive as it has a country style traditional bar area.. we were taken to our table which had a cafe style feel to it ie very high and wide. The colour a mock pale wooden effect not in keeping with the building. The first member of staff was very professional but then the 3 subsequent ones were lacking. The wine list never arrived , our drinks order never arrived so had to visit the bar to prompt them. The menu was lacking and very expensive. Now we are not cheap by any means but I begrudge paying 40 pounds for a 2 course set menu but being forced to get a pudding as there wasn't an option for a starter ! This got my goat straight away. The main option was 1 of 3. No red meat option. The red meat option for a further 10 pounds per person which was a 2 rib of beef you have to carve yourselves . Not up my street. A 10mm of glass of wine was 9 pounds. Which again I don't mind paying if the setting and service are spot on. When we finished the mains No one came to take our desert order . Odd considering how may staff they had. Full of want to be types trying to be something they are not. They are way off the mark here and a Sunday roast should not cost 110 pounds . Our protein equated to 2 to 3 tablespoons so basically its 40 each for a plate of veg. I am gutted as we are local and desperate for a quality restaurant. Also I haven't written one of these for so long but I feel very strongly about this. Avoid.

Enjoyed a very delicious breakfast this morning with beautiful poached eggs, lots of seating available and the cakes looked incredible. Only moan is the disgusting smell in the ladies toilets, I guess there is a problem with the drains, so bad I nearly saw my breakfast again.

We regularly visit this cafe as it is a pleasant day trip out for us . I find the staff to be smiley , helpful and welcoming , especially Antonia x The food is of a high standard . I had a small tasty roast beef dinner which was ace My partner had a fruit scone with jam and cream We go to this place a lot since it does not disappoint . In the summer it is nice to sit outside and admire the view while having lunch .

This was so disappointing and no idea where to start. The picture shown shows no resemblance to the food which was piled all together in a pile which we had never experienced in a restaurant before. Initially shown to a cold room to the left on entry. There were only 3 other couples in the dining room which for a Sunday Lunch was surprising. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy, beef tough and when extra gravy arrived it was lacking in taste. Overall not a pleasant experience.

When we arrived at the pub at 6.00 last Thursday evening for a meal we were the only people in the restaurant, we placed our order to a lady in a fleece!!!! Not very professional, we placed our order starters & main course, we waited 45 mins for the meal to arrive, when it arrived it was our main course no starters my husband said to the the young lad where was our starters!!!! He said he didn't know we ordered starters did we still want them we said yes he came back & told us they had not been ordered, he took the main meal back & we asked him not to keep the meal warm & we don't want it to be heated up, another long wait for starters to come prawn cocktail was disgusting it was served on a limp dark lettuce leaf. After another long wait main meal arrived the sirloin steak meal I ordered was not very nice the steak was very light in colour it did not look like a steak & it was tasteless also the chips were frozen thin cut chips, think on we were the only People in the restaurant so they were not rushed of there feet. The ambiance of the pub could be better it is not a very good advert to see the double wall lights bulbs with only one bulb working in all of them!!! I wonder if they are short of money as it looks like they cutting down on funds which is not a very good advert for the customers. This pub was a great pub years ago & it looks like it is struggling, needs something done with the ambiance & better served meal!!!! This pub could lend itself of being a great pub with good meals!!!

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant
