On arriving at this wonderful station after a magnificent journey from lakeside we were amazed to see such a beautiful cafe. What a fabulous array of foods even vegan options for me. You certainly won't leave hungry 😋 all the staff were extremely polite and helpful they certainly run this cafe like clockwork so well done to you all. I enjoyed the vegan sausages with mushrooms in a bun and chips, the cakes were so inviting but I really couldn't of managed one. This is must to visit and enjoy great hospitality and awesome food. Thank you it really made our day even more special.

Getting off the well loaded train went into the Tea room, the staff were friendly and took our order. We found a seat and our food was brought over to us, not long to wait either. The food was good, and the tea room very clean, with tables cleaned just minutes after customers vacated. I recommend this tea room with no reservations.

What on earth has happened to this once bustling popular cafe! Went an hour before our train to have lunch as previously it had been heaving but worth the wait. Previously had an amazing menu of home cooked food. Was so looking forward to the Steak pie. Well didnt have to wait for a table this time! We were one of the few diners there. The menu was like a poor man's Gregg's! The coffee was weak and food was served on paper plates. I don't like Gregg's but it would have been preferable to this. We only ate anything as we were hungry. The prices were ridiculous. How on earth can they justify €5.50 for a hot chocolate with marshmallows (only bought as promised to grandchild) . I asked what happened to the previous menu and was told oh they only do that when trains AREN'T running! Really! Their business model is upside down! It must cost them more to run with the poor menu they now have. Absolutely disgusting will definitely not come back. Nearly €30 for a child's lunch, a burger (tasteless) chips and a cheese pasty. No wonder you were almost empty. Do a smaller menu of 5 or 6 previously popular items and you might actually get back to the bustling cafe you once were. Until then we won't be back.

Warm, cosy atmosphere from both the venue and the staff who were extremely friendly and welcoming. It was busy when we came in but the staff were helpful and approachable, even when rushed off their feet! Food was absolutely delicious and tasted like home - again, adding to the warm atmosphere! If we come back to the Lakes again, we’ll definitely be back!

We caught the steam train from lakeside to haverthwaite, with the intention of trying this cafe. My wife is coeliac so knowing they had a gluten free menu we were keen to sample what they had to offer. On arrival the cafe was quiet, on the counter was a menu listing all gluten free options, when we started to order from it the lady quickly took it off my wife and said , that's finished now it's just what's on the board. The time was approximately 11.30am. We ordered from the board, a gluten free jacket potato and a bacon and egg roll. The bacon was over done and the egg was like rubber. Poor. All served in a paper bag, despite paying to eat in. The only advantage was , this allowed us to leave with the paper bag of poor food and board the next train back to lakeside.

We were lucky enough to stop in for lunch on Friday and they had a 2/3 course Christmas menu for a very reasonably priced £12/15 I think. Had the garlic creme mushrooms 👍 followed by a big plateful of Turkey dinner. Nice chunky slices of turkey, stuffing, roasters, mash, pigs in blankets, turnip/carrot, gravy, cranberry etc. Loved it. Coffee was good as well. Try catch the Christmas menu and phone to book to avoid disappointment. Will be back next time we are in the area. Thanks 😁

Great staff, great service, quality ingredients and a fantastic breakfast experience. It’s our regular haunt when staying in the region. My only observation is that the tables are an awful design. They are all simply too big for the booths they are meant to fit and the legs are too close to the ends of the table top. Top Grub and staff though.

Reasonable prices but definitely not over priced. Would happily go again if passing. Went here yesterday for lunch and found the menu surprisingly varied. We both had the railwayman's breakfast which was the best breakfast i have had in a long time. It also included a cup of tea or coffee. The children both had two scoops of icecream, as two scoops was only marginally more expensive than one scoop, which were also very good. Despite being busy the food came quite quickly too. My only complaint would be that myself and others asked for salt and pepper when the food arrived and were told that it was on the counter. This meant having to leave my hot food to go and find it! Why not put some on each table? All in all though a delicious meal.

Was there with a group of 25+, the scones were amazing and the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. They handled all of us with great service and a smile!

Reserved a table for 10-00am for a full cooked breakfast, which was appalling. The bacon & sausage were burnt and so hard I couldn't eat them .The hash browns were also overdone. The only good thing was the coffee ,made by a machine! The bill for two of us amounted to £23 + which made us think we had been ripped off and we certainly won't be going again.

I reviewed this restaurant just over two years ago, and it just gets better and better.

Lovely place to take in the steam train atmosphere. Friendly staff and delicious home-made scones. Good breakfast also. Ignore the negative reviews — there's no pleasing some folk who seem to expect "five star service" wherever they go.

Stopped here for lunch after riding the train, which is a great journey! I opted for a bacon sandwich which was nice but was quite fatty, so if I was to visit again I'd probably opt for something else on the menu

Great cafe to get a cooked breakfast. In winter the winter warmer menu is legendary. Such good value.

Having not enjoyed the breakfast at a local 4 star Hotel that we were staying at we decided to try the station before our rail trip both breakfasts were cooked to perfection the portions were good and the ingredients were good quality. We would 100%recommend.

Called at Haverthwaite Steam Railway on a day trip on a coach traveling on to Coniston Lake, a ride on the Steam Yacht Gondola & then on to Ambleside. All very good but for the visit to the cafe at Haverthwaite, lovely scones & drinks, But Please people be aware to check your change. I was short changed by £11 ! The girl distracted me by asking for the small change of 35p, I give her the 55p, I had already given her a £20 note for the bill of £9.35p, she came back & placed 20p on the counter & moved away. Unfortunately I had a momentary lapse & didn't realize till too late that she hadn't given me the rest of the change, I spoke to the Manageress in the morning, she kindly checked to see if there was a deficiency in the till, unfortunately she was monies down rather than up

If you haven't timed your trip to perfection with the train times you're likely to have about an hours wait for the next one so this is a good place to grab a bite / drink whilst waiting. From the look of the oldey worldy station I expected the café to be a bit more nostaligic looking inside. There was a few things to choose from off the menu but I opted for the chips and cheese - I expected the cheese to be completely melted across the top however there was just a little drop of grated cheese on top, although you do get plenty of chips so might be worth sharing between two.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

An impromptu choice to visit Plato's today and what a brilliant decision and choice. We had a really superb meal and were made to feel very welcome by Ronnie, who looked after us! We had the fish finger sourdough sandwich and the chicken and paprika mayo sandwich...accompanied by parmesan and truffle chips 🍟 😋 absolutely delicious. All washed down with a delightful glass of rose wine. We will definitely be returning. It was such a great culinary treat.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
