Anglers Arms in South Lakeland

We wish we’d found The Angler’s Arms at the start of our 3 day break; had we found it sooner, we wouldn’t have bothered with The Dolly Blue (awful food, no atmosphere) or The Swan (gorgeous place, average food, glacially slow service) The Angler’s offered great food, friendly & prompt service and good price. Thanks team!

We were looking forward to a good food experience having read some complimentary reviews. We were so disappointed at the prices for the food and drink. Nearly 6.00 for a pint of beer. A bowl of soup 7.50. Over 10.00 for a sandwich. Pricing was far too high for basic food.

my partner and I came in for some lunch, Ambiance was lovely and we were greeted by the landlord Pav who is always very welcoming. We both fancied fish n chips and we got exactly what we wanted I really couldn’t fault the food. the beer was well kept and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Possibly the best pint of Ale I've had. Beautifuly creamy and in perfect temperature. If you like ale this is a must stop! We didn't have food but it smelled amazing, pub was packed with people eating so we sat outside at the front. Lovely staff. We will definitely be back!

Fabulous food in a lovely pub. The dining area is very pleasant. The food is amazing with generous portions. Used to visit this pub a lot but haven’t been for years as it went downhill but it’s back with a bang. Loved our visit. Very happy.Definitely recommend eating here.

High quality food, really friendly staff and top quality service. We went for drinks initially but we have changed our mind when we have checked the menu, we have chosen the "Romanian shish kebab " dish which came with fries, mushrooms and salad together with the mustard, everything was tasty and freshly cooked, good quality and nice atmosphere. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to try something different but tasty. 😇

Called in for lunch- very quiet when we arrived (but it was only just past 12o’clock. I chose fish cakes from starters - 3 small fish cakes sat on a sweet chilli sauce (so tasty) with lovely tartare sauce and chunky chips. Really nice to have something different. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the chunky chips - as with most pubs - they cool and they become inedible, but I really enjoyed the fish cakes.

Found this little gem whilst staying at a nearby spa hotel. It was so good, we went there on two consecutive evenings. We were given a warm welcome. Tuesday was quiet, but Wednesday was busier, so best to book. This is a cosy, old fashioned pub, with a restaurant area. Served a great pint of Thwaites bitter, and lovely meals on both nights. Particularly grateful for the tasty, generous portions, (which included six different vegetables...rare find in most pub meals ! ) The homemade desserts were also delicious. Would certainly visit this establishment again in the future, as we spent two extremely pleasant evenings here. Thank you to all the staff .

We were staying in the area with family and needed somewhere to eat with a group of 10. The landlord was so welcoming and juggled things around to squeeze us into the fully booked restaurant area. We were very well looked after, with regular visits to the table to top up drinks and check everyone was happy. The food was delicious. Would highly recommend and hope to return again at some point.

Absolutely first class! The food and service were outstanding. Had to keep pausing, as there was a wonderful wee dog that we were watching having its best life, but we finished our meals and not a scrap was left. I finished with the ice cream which was lovely.

I was passing the angelers arms and decided to pop in for a meal. I had the steak pie which I can tell was baught in and was a TOMS PIE as I have had them many times. This was disappointing as for £18.25 I would expect a homemade pie. The chips were hard and the ales are overpriced. I will not return and I think serious improvement is needed for thwaites to keep the tenants on. Must be new tenant since I last visited a few years ago.

Eating out has become an expensive luxury, even for a pub meal. However, great food and great service must be applauded when you find it, making a meal out a worthwhile treat. A warm welcome greets you at the Anglers Arms and there is a wide choice of main dishes. I opted for the Steak & Ale Pie with seasonal vegetables and chips, which was very nice indeed. I particularly enjoyed the vegetables, a nice combination six different veg and the shortcrust pie was delicious and the pastry didn't disintegrate when you cut into. All accompanied with a decent pint of Thwaites Best Bitter.

Not locals - what do you do ? Google! Came across this lovely pub. Had a brief visit & decided to dine in evening..was not disappointed. I had chicken which was lovely but I had to taste a bit of my hubbys gammon! It was delicious! Locally sourced & you can tell. Lovely owners, polite staff . Hats 🎩 off! All ingredients were so fresh & lovely. We had a lovely evening & this is what you want if you are in an area you are not familiar with. Never got to play pool was my only dilemma! 🙄🤣 Thank you 🙏🏻 all

Was fortunate to call in for Sunday lunch again while visiting family. Honestly, I love this place. Service and genuine welcome is so good, and food (pub food but done superbly) amazing. I wish I could buy a house down the road and make it my local.

Fabulous little pub just off the main road in Haverthwaite. The food was absolutely delicious- proper pub food at reasonable prices. The service was excellent too. Lovely warm family atmosphere and a good selection of drinks too

On our holidays, and came here for dinner. As soon as walked in it felt very homely and the atmosphere was top notch. The barman was very helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent.... Broccoli and stilton soup was moreish! steak pie and mash was delish 😋 and Mr says the chicken was amazing! Need a place like this near us! The pub/restaurant was very well decorated for Christmas 🙂

As a group of friends meeting for pre Christmas lunch, we chose The Anglers for its convenient location, midway between Barrow and Kendal and for it’s good reviews. It was nicely decorated for Christmas and the food and service were excellent. There were not many people there, considering it was a Friday lunchtime, which was such a shame. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Was a quiet Tuesday night, but everything was perfect. Me and my daughter started with ham hock terrine, and the goats cheese. Both were delicious . We followed with the Mici. I cannot state enough how awesome these were, seasoned with paprika and garlics, and served with a fabulous salad, chips and mushrooms, with a smooth mustard mayo. Decent beer, too. Special mention must go to the waitress, who was friendly and super-attentive, a faultless evening!

Lovely old style pub. Had lunch today, I had Cajun chicken ciabatta with chips, absolutely spot on. Mega dog friendly, even treats for the dog. Staff friendly & engaging. Worth seeking out!

Went for lunch and will definitely be returning for dinner one day! You can tell the chef cares about the quality of the food, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely place with nice drinks selection and a good vibe for everyone. The staff were attentive. But the food is Lake District tourist prices of only acceptable quality and cleanliness - little details let it down for the price. The gravy was very thin and flavourless and the vegetables are standard. The potion sizes are good, but for the price the quality needs some small boosts on the main dishes.

Great little pub run by Pav and his wife… Thwaites Gold was spot on again and the atmosphere with the local shooters was fabulous… I’ve had the fish and chip from the main menu which was very good and a size to behold as was the rest of the parties meals… Thanks again, well done. An excellent dog friendly pub. We happened upon this pub whilst visiting the area. Nice varied menu with a special board too. Food was well presented and very tasty at good a price. Service was polite, friendly and efficient.

Visited this pub for an evening meal , after reading some reviews . Unfortunately we were not that impressed , atmosphere was rather strange , bit like a 70s vibe but not in a good way . We had vegetarian meals ,which looked promising despite them being a bit expensive . However , mine was pretty bland apart from being very spiced hot , very watery for a bean chilli , very disappointing for the price as well . Partners meal was a bit better . Though the overall experience was strange , we were glad to leave tbh .

Called in today for Sunday Lunch on the start of our week over the lakes. My wife had the Roast Beef which she said was lovely. I had the Steak and Ale pie which was to die for. Lovely pub, friendly staff. I think we’ll be calling in again this week before we leave.

A welcome surprise the original menu with lots of sound home made food especially the home made desserts. Thwaites beers outside seating for sunny days.

This has got to be one of best meals that me and my wife has experienced in many a year, there was absolutely nothing to fault. The standard of service was exceptional, the food was fantastic and at a very reasonable price. The choice of draught beers was superb, could have stayed all day. A very friendly place to visit that can only be highly recommended, just a shame we live 400 miles away in Cornwall.

Had lunch in this lovely pub on two occasions whilst holidaying in the Lake District. Cannot fault it at all. Food was amazing. All fresh & pipping hot. The owner was very friendly & welcoming. Dogs welcome in the bar. Would highly recommend this lovely pub. Prices also very good.

Visited last week for the first time. Ordered lasagna after seeing photos online thinking it looks really good. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with my meal, garlic bread was rock hard, lasagna was dry & some parts chewy. It definitely needed more sauce inside. Homemade chips were okay but again some chips were rock hard like they had been overdone. I could of sent my meal back but we had to go at a certain time so wouldn't of had time to wait for new meal. Hopefully it was just a off day maybe in the kitchen. Also ordered a kids meal, sausage & mash. Now the mash had pepper seasoning in which was no good for my 4yr old niece. It should state on menu as she couldn't eat it as the pepper was hot she said. Might come again to try something else on the menu but when you pay a lot of money for good quality food it is disappointing. Fingers crossed it's better next time.

Had the most delicious prawn linguine, had pub classics and different specials, huge portions prices for mains between £17 to 25 Have soup of the day, quite a quaint pub but busy and delicious make sure you book a table as it fills quickly. Can’t recommend enough starters delicious mains scrumptious and pudddings very yummy

We arrived in the rain after walking from the train station. Walk in's were full so we started to leave back in the rain to find the next place to have a meal with our kids. The owner stopped us and invited us back in. Said he will make a plan to Accommodated us to stay out the rain with the kids. . Which absolutely amazing. Food and service was brilliant.

We have just enjoyed a delicious Sunday dinner and dessert. The food was prompt, hot, tasty and fresh. The desserts were home made and a real treat. It is horrendous weather and the room was cosy and relaxed. The staff are cheerful, very attentive and caring; we were made to feel very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We will happily recommend it and we will definitely return. Thank you.

Friendly staff, good service even though they were a bit busy. Food was good and plenty of it. Now that is what I call a Gammon steak! Prices were reasonable, and far enough off the main road to be overlooked by most people hurtling by.

We had 2 starters, salmon and mushrooms plus a bowl of salad. Menu was refreshingly different from a lot of pubs we've experienced. A good variety of vegetarian options and they even made a delectable salad bowl for us. Yay! not a chip in sight! (They were on the menu, but not the go to, most other pubs provide. Keep up the great service

The food wasn't good, tasted very bland and not well seasoned. The chips tasted like fish which is even worse considering they are a side to the vegan burger and would make it not vegan if the chips are fried in the same oil as the fish. After a previous confrontation with the owner where we already said that the food wasn't cooked well and her denying it vehemently she did not show herself anymore. Because of that we told one of the servers the deficits. To that the owner came back out again and angrily yelled at us and concluded her rage by telling us to "not come back again" which we happily comply with.

One of the best places i have eaten in for a while well worth a visit. Went back for a second visit on our last night of holiday and the food was just as good the second time. Owner was very friendly and his wife cooks amazing meals and raspberry cake.

Spent a long weekend here as part of a military reunion Field of Dreams. Had two meals in the pub one a light lunch and a Sunday lunch. Both were first class and definitely not small portions. Pav and his team do a first class job and nothing is too much. The beers good too. Will be back next year all being well.

We Googled for an eatery close to our hotel and The Anglers Arms came up with good reviews. They could accommodate the four of us and a dog 🐕 in the bar. After a couple staters we ordered two steak and ale pies, sea bass with tagliatelle and lasagna. Four excellent and large portions. Real pies, all pastry, not a china bowl with a pastry top. All dishes tasty and piping hot. The serve were efficient and friendly. A bottle of wine and some drinks and for four of us change out of £170. An excellent venue, highly recommended.

If only I could give 6 stars! This is my new favourite Lake District eatery. It's a fantastic little old fashioned pub run by a lovely husband and wife team who've been running the place for just shy of a year at the date of our visit 4th July 2024. The decor in the Anglers Arm pays homage to both the local fisheries and also the now defunct steam railway line. I say 'defunct' but you can (as we did) enjoy a 35 minute steam train ride from Haverthwaite to the Acquatic Lakes from where you can do a cruise on lake Windermere to Bowness. But I digress: Once inside the Anglers Arms you met by a family oriented approach to customer services as you are warmly welcomed by both the ambience as well as the menu and specials. We had the meatballs and mash and chicken skewers which we learnt - as we were told, all the foid served - was made on site using local ingredients including herbs clearly visible around the front of the pub. The food was incredibly delicious: absolutely delicious. The portions are just right and very, very filling. The puddings were just as great, again: all made in house by this lovely couple. To top it all, the price for a 3 course meal for two (starters, mains, dessert a glass of wine and a pint of Guinness) for less than £65. I felt like I robbed them after having such a wonderful experience there. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

We ate here 3 nights out of 4 so think that answers any questions about this place. Fantastic food! Only reason we didnt eat on 4th day is that we were away all day. The roast beef was amazing as with all their dishes, enjoyed them all and large portions. I not usually a mashed potato fan but whatever that chef does with them, they were amazing. If you near by its a must. They have a very good bar too with a pool table and darts. Relaxed atmosphere with good friendly owners and staff.

We discovered an incredible dining spot. Our group of five adults and 2 kids enjoyed a delightful dinner with our friends. We savored the flavors of Romanian mici, sea bass, and salmon - each dish was truly amazing. The children's chicken nuggets made with real chicken were a hit too. The service was top-notch, and the prices were reasonable.Thank you

Haven’t eaten in there called it for a drink a few times. In need of up dating and defo need to get rid of all the plastic plants. Could be a little gold mine with a make over. Been in 3 times and it’s been deserted everytime.
