Anglers Arms in South Lakeland

We had dinner. I have never had such delicious chicken with chilli. It is a perfect combination with fried rice. The meat is tender and well spiced.

Called for lunch, can recommend the sausage ciabatta. Will be calling again on our next visit to the lakes

Lovely pub, reliably good for food, ambience, and service. Today's visit, as a family group, did not disappoint - in fact, the food was delicious. A slight issue with one of our mains was rectified swiftly and professionally. I have been several times and intend to return!

Highly recommend the food here. I had fish and chips and it was so fresh and light. Probably one of the best I’ve eaten. My husband had the steak and ale pie and thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter age 15 fancied the children’s chicken nuggets. They kindly made her an adult portion and when they came, they were chicken breast, lightly battered, definitely not frozen shop bought. A little gem of a place and we will visit again when in the area.

We ate here as a group of 8 and all our meals were excellent. Service was also very good and we would recommend it for good quality pub food and reasonable prices. The Romanian mici is recommended and would be good to see more authentic Romanian dishes on the menu.

Amazing food and service couldn’t have been better! Pool table and dart board were a great addition to an evening out with family and it was great to return since reopening to such a lovely, friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely great food, just 5min walk from Haverthwaite steam train station

Excellent food and service. Good beer. Menu is slightly basic, with traditional pub grub available plus the outstanding house special dish. It was slightly over priced, but otherwise fantastic all round.

Visited for a family meal, everyone went for different roasts and all were absolutely delicious. Along with the friendly service it made a lovely Sunday evening meal. So pleased to have revisited this place and to have it fairly local too, we'll definitely be back 🙂

What a great little find this was. We'd been walking all morning and searching for a relaxing lunch spot and found the Anglers Arms. The hosts were very welcoming and the wine chilled and delicious. I had the warm goats cheese ciabatta with red onion jam and my husband had the ham and piccalilli sandwich - large portions and extremely delicious. All at a very reasonable price. There is also a separate dining room for people to bring their dogs. I would highly recommend you check this out for quality, value for money and pleasant surroundings.

It's an odd place. Food was average.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Windermere Honestly, one of those places. First impressions left me wondering what to expect. Then BOOM the food came. All home made, all freshly cooked. Only one way to find out, try it for yourself. Family of 12 and the service was great. The food was even better. Will definitely be back again.

A nice little pub/restaurant. Menu is good maybe a bit pricey for what's on offer. Staff are very attentive. Atmosphere is a little bit subdued and whispery (everyone whispers when the music stops). There's not a great amount of beers/ales. Establishment feels a bit dated. Not a bad place and I feel I may have been a bit mean however it's honest.

I had a special, pork belly, absolutely sublime meal. Tasted delicious . My wife had the pie n mash. She loved it. Great atmosphere too. And I had a lovely ipa too.

Up to about 15 years ago we visited the Anglers for food and drink regularly. It never disappointed us with excellent service and food and drink. We have recently moved into the area, decided to revisit and to our delight it is as good as old times thanks to Pav and the team. We would highly recommend! There is a good range of choices on the menu and the Sunday lunch is excellent. The interior has been refurbished and offers a comfortable and welcoming environment with the plus for us that dogs are allowed in the bar area, as we often visit with our furry friend. We had roast beef. It was barely hot, wife sent hers back. Gravy was probably bisto, beef overcooked and broccoli undercooked. Not impressed for £17.

After a walk on Sunday afternoon we decided to call in the Anglers for a late lunch, we both opted for the roast beef Sunday Lunch with a side of Cauliflower Cheese. The meals arrived and the plates were full, I cant remember the last time i had a Sunday dinner as good, it didn't matter which bit of meat or vegetable you tried the flavours were great. This is about the 4th time we have eaten at the Anglers recently and the food that comes from the kitchen is wonderful. Cant wait to be back for our next meal.

We have been a few times now, such a lovely pub/restaurant and the staff are so friendly, first time we had Sunday roast which was delicious and an abundance of veg on the plate & lots of roast beef, starters were amazing, recently we went for my mums birthday, sea bass, burgers , & steak all perfectly cooked, it's set in beautiful scenic environment, be lovely to sit out in the summer , puddings were amazing too, definitely a place to visit

We came up here for a 3 night break with the kids and ended up eating here for 2 of the 3 nights! Soo friendly, huge portions and amazing food. Best pub grub around. Couldn't recommend any more. Will certainly be coming back!

Came here whilst on holiday in the Summer, loved the food and pub that we came back for a second visit in the Winter. Good quality food, in a lovely traditional pub with welcoming staff and very dog friendly too. Looking forward to our 3rd visit soon.

Food was ok, but it was like being at a funeral!

We called into the Anglers on a Friday for a pint after we had booked a cottage for the weekend. It had a great warm welcome. We booked for the next night which was New Year’s Eve for our Family and the food did not disappoint. We came back for a drink on New Years Day after a long walk and promised the kids food. When we arrived they had stopped serving but Pav was brilliant and said don’t worry we will make you whatever you want. If you aren the area this pub is a must visit

Staying locally over Xmas and New Year, called in on Friday for a few drinks whilst walking. Warm and friendly staff, drinks priced as normal, a lovely pint of Thwaites Gold. Booked for New Year’s Day, a slight miss understanding with the times but very quickly remedied. The food and service was fantastic. Great portions and excellent quality. We were all busted and couldn’t have eaten anything else. Highly recommended

Lovely quaint pub. Delicious food and brilliant atmosphere. Decorations are inviting. A warm and friendly establishment. We had the vegetable soup and mushroom starter which were amazing! The beef burger, fries, and curry were tasty as well.

One of the best places for Sunday lunch been this place twice for Sunday lunch and it's very good value for money and it's a very good portion size. The roast beef was to die for and my partner and father had half a roast chicken that's they both enjoyed. It's nice to walk into a very friendly pub with great staff. Am so lucky to have this pub on my door step.

Lovely warm and fun welcome. A fair selection of mostly typical pub grub at fairly typical prices but the food was better than typical pub food. The soup of the day - on this occasion cream of celery and ginger soup was very possibly the nicest soup I've had anywhere ever and the steak and ale pie was very tasty in good firm, not soggy, pastry. I'd recommend a visit here.

It is nice to see the old place, done up and reopened at last and I wish the new incumbents well with their venture. We walked into an empty pub, just after 4.30 p.m. and were greeted with we don't open for food until five. We asked if we could have drinks as we thought it was a little early to be eating anyway. The advertised opening times are midday to 11 p.m.? We enjoyed our non alcoholic drinks, as we had built up quite a thirst. We also perused the menu. I was quite surprised that the steak pie was almost £18 and that a chicken breast wrapped in bacon, was in excess of £21. It seemed to me that restaurant prices were being charged for pub food. I was expecting a large pie full of chunks of unctuous steak for that sort of money. What I received, fell far short of the mark. The pie looked nice enough but not large enough. The contents were very small pieces of meat and quite underwhelming. It was accompanied by twelve chips, five assortments of nutty vegetables and thin gravy in a separate boat. My wife had the Romanian kebabs, which were alright but absolutely reeked of garlic. Desserts were fine but still slightly overpriced. My wife said that the prices reflected where we were in the Lake District. I said that we were still in the Lake District when I first visited the Angler's in 1977, when an infinitely superior pie was about £2.95 and off of course on the number of subsequent visits that we have had, over the years. I can only surmise that the Lakes have been bought up by wealthy Southerners, who are used to paying extortionate "London" prices. Whilst some areas of the pub have been improved, others are still lacking, like the gents toilets, that are almost in the next village. There are still no facilities for disabled visitors nor a car park. You wouldn't think that we are in the 21st. Century. Whilst it was nice to visit again, I don't think that we will be in a rush to return in the future.

Found the pub by chance after a long day out. Had a delicious Sunday roast. 6 veg and 2 types of potatoes. Absolutely lovely food and helpful staff. Couldn't fault it..

Lovely little ‘proper’ pub which is dog friendly in the public bar. Nice mix of locals and tourists. Beer all well kept, nice range of lighter and darker beers (although slightly disappointing that the Thwaites Mild isn’t available like the rest of the range). Food was excellent. I’m always apprehensive about ordering fish and chips - too often over cooked and with a heavy batter - however, the Anglers Arms nailed it - beautifully cooked and with a light crisp batter. Excellent chunky tartare sauce with the only thing less the excellent being that the promised mushy peas were actually crushed peas.

Been coming here for years now and it’s now the best it’s ever been since been taken over recently by Pav and family! Lovely food even better atmosphere and the staff can’t do enough for you ❤️
