Introduced to Oscar’s by my sister who lives a few miles from Cartmel, we celebrated my wife’s birthday with a family meal there a few days ago. Fabulous food and service and a great atmosphere. The sausages in honey and mustard were amazing. Highly recommended, we’ll certainly be back again.

Fantastic service and hospitable staff that made the meal journey enjoyable. We had the lunch menu and were dining with our 17 month old and not one bit were we made to feel unwelcomed. Really thankful for the team in serving us from Breakfast to Lunch and made the day truly memorable!

Really quaint little village shop that's a bit like Mar Poppins handbag. Don't know how they can cram soooooo much stuff into such a little shop Really fairly priced and alot more on offer than just the expected famous 'sticky toffee pudding' which is to die for and us served hot to take away

The staff were so welcoming and the atmosphere was brilliant! A special mention to Sophie who went above and beyond to help me find my bracelet. The owner should be proud of having such a wonderful team. Thanks again, Lucie.

We went to the Georgian Terrace to spend an overnight stay there. We checked in and got to our room to find that it had not been cleaned. Went back to the desk where they upgraded the room and gave us a food credit for the inconvenience. The upgraded room was huge, more like an efficiency apartment. Very clean and nicely decorated. Everything worked satisfactorily and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely go back if we need another stay in Atlanta again.

We had the most wonderful stay at Uplands Inn Cartmel and couldn’t recommend it more! From the moment we arrived, Allan and Sue gave us such a warm welcome, making us feel right at home. It was especially lovely that they allow dogs, and they went the extra mile by getting our little dog some locally handmade treats—such a thoughtful and personal touch! We stayed in the Lune Suite, which was beautifully cosy and comfortable, with an incredible view of the hills and coastline of nearby Grange-over-Sands. After settling in, we headed to the restaurant, where we enjoyed a fantastic home-cooked meal by Sue. I had the steak and chips, cooked to absolute perfection, while my partner had the fish and chips, which was equally delicious. Following our meal, we relaxed by the fire with some drinks, and to our delight, Allan and Sue joined us for a chat. The evening flew by with laughter, great stories, and amazing hospitality. Their son, Dylan, was also hands-on in the family business, serving up fantastic cocktails—I highly recommend his Bloody Mary! After such a lovely evening, we had a peaceful night’s sleep in our super comfy bed. The next morning, we were treated to a delicious full English breakfast, made with fresh local produce and cooked by Sue—an excellent way to start the day! This hotel is truly special, not just because of its stunning location but because of the amazing family that runs it. If you’re looking for a dog-friendly, welcoming, and heartwarming stay in Cartmel, Uplands Inn is the place to be! We can’t wait to return.

We visited The Pig and Whistle yesterday for an early evening Sunday roast, arriving at 6pm – the latest available slot – having phoned ahead to confirm that food was still being served. We were particularly keen to try the Sunday Sharer, which sounded amazing from other reviews: Yorkshire pudding topped with bacon cheese sauce and beer onion gravy, 10oz ribeye steak to dunk, various meats including a Cumberland sausage pig-in-blanket wheel, plus cauliflower cheese, stuffing, parmesan potatoes and veggies. Unfortunately, what we received fell far short of what was advertised. Our server told us there was no pig-in-blanket but assured us they’d “make it up.” What we ended up with was two slices of beef, one small chicken breast and no ribeye steak – arguably the highlight of the dish. There was no stuffing, the potatoes lacked parmesan, and the “bacon topped cheese sauce” turned out to be bacon sprinkles rather than actual bacon as seen in other reviews. For £45, this was really underwhelming – we would have been better off just ordering two adult and two kids roasts individually. Still feeling hungry, we tried desserts – the Sticky Toffee Sundae and Biscoff Pudding. Again, both were a letdown. The sundae, which promised chunks of warm sticky toffee pudding, ice cream, sauce, cream, and crunchie, was just pudding bits in a glass with ice cream and no sign of crunchie. The Biscoff Pudding came with chocolate (not vanilla) ice cream for some reason, no Biscoff biscuit, and a sauce that tasted more like sticky toffee rather than Biscoff. While what we did get for mains did get tasted okay, it simply didn’t match what was advertised – and for the price, that’s disappointing. No one checked on our table, so we had no opportunity to raise our concerns at the time. A real shame, as we were looking forward to this visit. Sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations and felt like a missed opportunity.

Nice little quaint tea room set in an idyllic little village square. Good to sit and watch the world go by. The only thing I would say is that the staff appeared to be a little stressed, when we arrived it wasn't busy at all but listening to them, they had clearly had a busy day. My coffee wasn't presented the best either. I haven't let this affect my review as we all have off days. If you're in Cartmel, give it a try 👍🏻
