The best restaurants in Cartmel and Grange West South Lakeland North West

This was my first time visiting at a 3-star Michelin restaurant as well as eating at the Chef's table. Firstly, from now on I will definitely attempt to do the Chef's table experience at a restaurant when it is available. It is a much more entertaining affair, and more interesting and informative experience than your traditional restaurant experience. Whilst preparing each of the individual and unique courses, the chef clearly explained the inspiration/ingredients behind each course. He also shared how L'enclume are trying to be more sustainable and how Simon Rogan has his own farm nearby in Cartamel to source fresh local produce for the restaurant. The chefs table experience also allows you to speak to other groups of people present and share their experience and why they are there and their opinions. It's a great experience for foodies and highly recommended. For l'enclume and Aulis Cartamel , the food is great, organic, beautifully presented and expertly prepared. My personal favourite is the Orkney Scallops and Corra lim pudding caramelised in Birch sap. This restaurant is a true English restaurant, that is worth 3 stars

Introduced to Oscar’s by my sister who lives a few miles from Cartmel, we celebrated my wife’s birthday with a family meal there a few days ago. Fabulous food and service and a great atmosphere. The sausages in honey and mustard were amazing. Highly recommended, we’ll certainly be back again.

We had a lovely stay here. Beautiful comfy rooms with lovely bathrooms and a perfect location on Cartmel Square. Was a wonderful cosy retreat to go back to after doing the Lakes in a Day 50 mile ultra marathon!! Delicious breakfast too and great service. Thank you so much.

Simon Rogan has a rare talent and its not just being an exceptional chef. It's hiring exceptional hospitality talent. This is SO hard to do in the current climate and yet he's succeeded in hiring some of the best my husband and I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. From Alba in reception to Tom as front of house, Vlad the sommerlier, Hannah, Finn and Alywn our servers we can't thank you ALL enough for the wonderful memories you created for us when we came first time after we got married and then again just a few weeks ago for our first year's anniversary. We felt so cherished, looked after and special. The food was utterly delightful but it was each and every one of you who made our time with you all sublime. From Stephen and I we sincerely thank you. Memories that we will hold onto forever.

60th birthday treat . And what a treat!

We came here while staying in cartmel for 2 nights. Staff were great & food was beautiful. It was really busy after the races on the Friday & great atmosphere.

Quirky hotel, nothing level, doors, floors etc, gave the feeling you were stepping back in time, great! Breakfast, more or less anything you wanted, superb! We had, abundance of refreshments in our room, coffee, tea, all made from fresh coffee grains and tea leaves!

Lovely food and Friendly Smiley people who run it. Will definitely be back. Lots of home made goodies!!

Traditional Pub. Nice open fire. Great beers. Very Friendly helpful young staff. Short menu of wholesome straightforward food very well cooked and presented. Live music on Fridays and Sundays. Will definitely visit again

Rooms are a little dated. But this historic hotel has beauty & charm that can’t be matched with new builds. And the location is perfect for midtown fun & people watching

Absolutely beautiful place filled with beautiful people must visit for anyone who likes to enjoy there life i have even heard Salah and klopp have both visited the upplands in and both enjoyed it throughly amazing 👏 😀 👍

Great proper pub on the outskirts of Cartmel. Well priced and food available.

We both ordered soup with a cheese scone. This is after a walking week with soup and bread taken every day. Not only was this the most expensive we came across but the scone was very, “doughy,” and undercooked. It was far from acceptable. It’s very clear that the staff have not tried their own product. I urge them to test the product, change the recipe and improve the cooking process. I was really unhappy with our experience though the ambiance of the cafe is excellent if a little cold with the door wide open trying to attract customers. Could do much better. I strongly urge them to seek customer feedback so that they find out what people actually think.
