This was my first time visiting at a 3-star Michelin restaurant as well as eating at the Chef's table. Firstly, from now on I will definitely attempt to do the Chef's table experience at a restaurant when it is available. It is a much more entertaining affair, and more interesting and informative experience than your traditional restaurant experience. Whilst preparing each of the individual and unique courses, the chef clearly explained the inspiration/ingredients behind each course. He also shared how L'enclume are trying to be more sustainable and how Simon Rogan has his own farm nearby in Cartamel to source fresh local produce for the restaurant. The chefs table experience also allows you to speak to other groups of people present and share their experience and why they are there and their opinions. It's a great experience for foodies and highly recommended. For l'enclume and Aulis Cartamel , the food is great, organic, beautifully presented and expertly prepared. My personal favourite is the Orkney Scallops and Corra lim pudding caramelised in Birch sap. This restaurant is a true English restaurant, that is worth 3 stars

The most relaxed, yet awe inspiring dining experience I have had to date. The chef and sommelier know every little detail and tell the story of what you’re eating and drinking. It’s wonderful. As for the food, it’s so incredibly smart, yet remains accessible and familiar in its flavours. Every dish so perfectly presented. Ever flavour chosen for a purpose. It’s magic. Having the 3 stars sets an unfair expectation before you even walk in, however I can confidently say that they deserve those stars and have got them just by being the restaurant they are. Absolutely stunning and will absolutely be returning to experience the seasonal menu changes towards the second half of this year. Thanks to the Aulis team for a wonderful evening.

Megan did us proud, it was beautifully presented and tasted divine. I will dream of the cheese toastie until the end of my days! What I love is the information and the relaxed tone- you can have fun it’s not stuffy at all. The accompanying wine flyte is brilliant- tried things delicious that I would never have considered. And they topped it up… great service, great food, great night, fantastic all round.

Where to begin… I had booked Aulis as a 30th birthday surprise for my fiancé and wow, what an amazing experience. There are 6 seats available and we were very lucky to be the only two guests there that night which made it even more special. The service from the sous chef and sommelier was just incredible, they were not only extremely knowledgeable but they made the whole evening so perfect! The 16 courses were flawless and we also went for the signature wine pairing to go alongside. I am still lost for words. They even added a final surprise course for a birthday treat which was a thoughtful addition. I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend this experience to anyone considering going.

Amazing dishes, soon to come to L’Enclume. Everything is tested out here at chef’s table. Honest opinions positively sought.

Where to start, from entering the building to leaving everything about this experience at Aulis was first class. The chef table is an adventure not to be missed an informal and interactive experience with only 6 diners, the chef and a sommelier which was excellent The 14 (yes fourteen) course tasting menu executed by chef Connor was unbelievable. Every course was mouth watering good and the execution of every dish was exquisite and picture perfect. The sommelier provided excellent knowledge and recommendations for all tastes and we definitely wasn’t disappointed. This is a must do for any foodie that appreciates the whole food journey from farm to fork delivered at the highest level. We can’t praise the team enough and we will definitely be back.

It‘s just great. The taste compositions are both balanced and audacious at the same time. Eating one dish while observing the next one being prepared is a wholesome experience I never had before.

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We were looked after by chef, Connor and head waiter, Max and they were brilliant. We loved the down to earth style of the service and the environment. Aulis is a chef’s table style dining experience which you might imagine is a little daunting, especially when the restaurant has 3 Michelin stars. But we really didn’t find it to be that way at all. The service was a good mix of professional and warm. The food was incredible. It’s so much more exciting to see the food prepared right before you and to be able to ask questions along the way. I won’t go into the details of the dishes as it is supposed to be a surprise tasting menu. Leave any preconceived ideas of what ingredients you don’t like behind and go for it. I visited with my partner and we decided to do the wine pairing. There are two types of wine pairing. A “tasting” option, and a more expensive “signature” pairing. We opted for one of each and shared, so we got to taste the differences and I would highly recommend doing the same.

Probably the best experience we’ve had in Michelin star level establishments. 15 courses, watching Chef Cameron diligently and expertly piece together from the raw ingredients. Explanations of each dish accompanied by David with expertly chosen matching wine combinations. I think I would far rather experience this than just see the end product placed on the table in front of me!

We came with high hopes for a big birthday celebration, and the wonderful team at Aulis exceeded them. It’s hard to live up to the hype of three Michelin stars, but Chef Cameron and Hannah did just that. And as our taxi driver Trevor said “they do it all with patience and charm”. Here’s to another 20 years! Special mentions: - The English seasonal mushrooms in miso butter, yeast, mushroom stock and house-made dark beer - ‘Anvil’: Caramel mousse with their ‘other’ miso, winter apple and spruce, paired with the outrageously good ‘I Capitelli’ Anselmi (which smells of mango and is pictured empty!)

Believe the hype, a complete gastronomic experience! Expect the unexpected. A wonderful evening with attentive, knowledgeable staff that are amazing at what they do and made this a night to remember. The food needs to be experienced to believe as I cannot do it justice in words alone.

Simply exceptional. 3.5 hour cooking demonstration of the magnificent complex construction of each of the same 15 courses served in the main LEnclume restaurant next door, but with the added explanation from the brilliant multi talented chef (Ben?) who hosted us all the way through. The only aspect that slightly let this 11/10 experience down was the rather naff French wine waiter whose poor attitude contrasted sharply with the chef's. The food was utterly brilliant. Nothing less than stunning, every course. And brilliant value at £175 for 15 courses. The fascinating experience of gaining a real understanding of how each dish is constructed and being able to ask follow up questions puts Aulis on a level that is worth twice or three times the cost of a cover. Utterly brilliant.

Booked in for the 6 person dining experience at £175 per person 21/11/21 at 7pm. Ben ( chef ) was fantastic in explaining each taster & for sure was well worth the cost….. Opted for the “ SELECT “ wine pairing at £250 EACH person ! BEWARE !!!!!! Jordan who delicately served & explained each wine was confusing in his ramblings of each but more upsettingly the measures of 75m & 100m were certainly well under on each pour….. at one point I questioned the measure in a mildly amusing manner to which he quipped “ Errr no sir, I believe that is correct “ 🤦🏻♂️ At 3/4 through the evening it simply spoilt the occasion….. Simon, have a word ! Weights & measures would have a field day…. More importantly we’ll now share our experience with others which at best will at least make them aware ! There are far better places to experience at half the £1100 price we paid !

The food was worth not going on holiday for this year. Each course went up a level and to only be with five people (that’s including the chef and sommelier) was a very intimate and special experience. The pictures speak for themselves and we will definitely be back again. As someone who thinks most wine is dreadful, the signature wine pairing was phenomenal and perfectly matched with each course. Two slight areas for feedback; the chef lacked a little charisma and the noise from the extractor fan was too much for the three hour sitting. If you love food, you will be in heaven here!

An absolutely outstanding afternoon with Chef Ben and Sommelier Toby sharing their skill and passion for food and wine of the highest quality. An intimate dining experience that allows you to find out about the inspiration behind, and work that goes into creating multi Michelin star winning food, and sample rare and exquisite wines from around the world. You’ll never look at bread and butter pudding the same way again.

Rather than go again to L’Enclume we thought the kitchen experience might be both a change whilst being as good as the main restaurant. We’d done kitchen experiences before and enjoyed seeing a busy kitchen and talking to the chefs but this was different as you essentially had your own personal - max 6 people or 4 in COVID times - chef (and sommelier) and your own personal kitchen. Without doubt the experience was enjoyable and both food and drinks flights (one wine and one soft drinks) were superb but I have to say that on balance, I preferred the theatricality and sheer pizzazz that you get in the main restaurant that is toned down here. I’d unreservedly recommend Aulis to those who prefer exclusivity and the understatement of superb food but for me, I’ll be going back to L’Enclume.

Whilst trying to amuse my two young son's on a recent visit to Cumbria I took them to the vintage farm. And while that itself is great the real highlight was The Chicken Shed cafe on the site. The food is lovely with the homemade cakes being among the best I have ever tasted. The lady who runs the place is a great host and when my 9 year old cheekily asked for a beer she passed him a bottle of child friendly shandy that made his day. There's also a wide variety of homemade ice cream available which was music to the ears of my 6 year old (and me). Even if you don't fancy visiting the farm itself the food and hospitality at The Chicken Shed is worth seeking out.

Wow! What a fabulous experience from start to finish! We visited for my friend’s 40th and everything was perfect! Location, service and food- just beautiful! I have coeliac disease and they were so attentive and careful and went out of their way to ensure I didn’t miss out on anything. I even had different kinds of bread- believe me, this is wildly unusual for anything GF and I felt so special! All of the food was divine. I ate the lot, but totally regretted the sugar rush later on when I had a two hour drive home :-) Everything was perfect - the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had!

We were looking for somewhere to stop for a bite to eat on our way up to the Lakes. We came across the River Bela cafe and certainly weren't disappointed! A lovely little place with friendly hosts and delicious food. All this and dog friendly too, which is a must for us. We had the lovely home baked, hand carved ham sandwiches. On the way back home 2 days later we couldn't resist calling in again, this time for a lovely cooked breakfast - scrumptious! We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

So I’m not normal one to leave a review, that being said overall I was hugely disappointed with the meal I had at the Knipe Grill at Gilpin Lake House. Firstly - we were show to our table and and iPad dropped on the table. Yes this is a menu and yes I can work and iPad. But with the hotel boasts 5 stars I expect a little more interaction. -With an experienced chef David with many an accolade, unfortunately I was underwhelmed. You quote “My food is fun, there’s always a bit of a story behind it, a bit of nostalgia and playfulness” Sadly there was no story no fun. This was primarily down the the service and the lack of engagement, talking us through the menu, championing and highlighting locality, seasonally and recommendations. The level of service we received for the price paid just wasn’t up to standard. - and finally whilst I know this is a hotel with a hot tub, there is something about having a group of people in bath robes walking through the restaurant heading to the hot tub a little strange. I wouldn’t expect this from a restaurant in a 3 star Spanish hotel, let alone a 5 star very expensive hotel/restaurant in the lakes In summary the restaurant's inexperience staff led to poor service, which significantly impacted the dining experience. The lack of knowledge and attentiveness resulted in frustration and dissatisfaction. While the food showed potential, it ultimately fell short of the expected standard considering the price paid. Overall, the combination of what seemed like inexperienced staff and underwhelming food quality makes this restaurant a less than satisfying choice. Sorry for this review but unfortunately this is a true reflection of my/out experience.
