Great place to stay friendly homely food AND rooms FABULOUS

We came here for dinner on the night of our engagement and we were astounded by how good it was. An exquisite three-course gourmet meal for just £37 each, super cosy lounges (this was December!), and welcoming, intelligent staff. I really can’t think of a single thing I’d change.

Me alojé una noche para un regalo de aniversario. Nunca me había quedado antes, pero no sé por qué. El hotel era encantador, cálido y acogedor. Personal acogedor y comida muy buena. Las precauciones de Covid son del más alto nivel sin ningún efecto perjudicial en el disfrute de nuestra estadía. Espero quedarme más tiempo la próxima vez.

Regresé aquí para otra excelente estadía. Excelente servicio personalizado y atención al detalle, y sentimos que se había invertido mucho pensamiento y atención en mantener seguros a los huéspedes y al personal. Excelentes opciones de menú para la cena y delicioso desayuno: ¡el tocino más sabroso que he probado en mi vida!

Homemade burger!!.... it’s definitely not. I’ve had better frozen burgers from Tesco. Really disappointing £14 for a rubbery tasteless burger. Very overpriced for the quality of the food.

He estado trabajando para The Grasmere Hotel durante la temporada de verano y solo puedo decir que la familia que maneja el hotel es la mejor, Kevin, Nicky, Charlotte y Bex me han tratado genial, me han recibido como uno más de la familia, siempre me dieron mucho tiempo libre y lo han cuidado mucho. From start to finish it was amazing! Stunning surroundings. Food was amazing. The host was great. Honestly the nicest place we have stayed.

Afternoon tea for 4 (parents and two teenage daughters) on a cloudy Sunday. Nice surroundings, staff attentive, food very good quality. We had the luxury afternoon tea and was all were delicious. We couldn’t manage everything and so we were provided with boxes to take the remainder home for a sweet treat the following day. Good value and especially the champagne flight for those not driving.

A lovely friendly restaurant using top quality local produce and service with a smile. You would find it hard to find a better place to eat in the Lakes or elsewhere come to that. Never failed to please nice choice of dishes for each course.

Conseguimos una mesa al lado de la ventana que daba a los jardines (aunque se podían ver los jardines desde todas las mesas). Es un menú de 3 platos para 37 personas. 50. La comida fue excepcional. Nos sirvieron aperitivos en el salón con nuestras bebidas que estaban deliciosas. Comí venado como entrante, que estaba delicioso, la carne de res se derretía en la boca y un budín de caramelo pegajoso. No nos dimos cuenta, pero el té y el café son extra si no se hospeda en el hotel. Totalmente recomendado.

Al llegar nos llevaron a un salón de buen gusto y nos obsequiaron aperitivos, que tenían un sabor increíble. Nos dieron un menú y nuestras bebidas se sirvieron con el aperitivo. Nos llevaron a nuestra mesa tan pronto como nuestra comida estuvo lista para ser servida. Los 3 platos fueron excelentes, el personal fue atento y cuando terminamos nuestra comida, nuestras bebidas fueron llevadas al salón donde nos relajamos. El secreto de esta increíble experiencia culinaria fue la hermosa comida, el atento personal y la atención al detalle. Pensamos que el precio era una relación calidad-precio excepcional y no dudaría en recomendar este hotel.

What an amazing hotel set in the gorgeous & quaint town of Grasmere. The welcome from the family, in this family run establishment was super & enhanced the stunning rooms & garden (with a stream at the end).The room had everything you needed & plenty information re their policy during this difficult time with COVID & also things to do in the surrounding area. This hotel is situated very centrally to visit all the places in The Lakes, with lovely walks straight from the front door.Dinner & breakfast were lovely & well presented, with a great choice & gorgeous tasting food.I will hopefully stay at this hotel in the future (it’s very busy) so don’t delay in making your enquiry!!!Well worth a visit. We joined two friends last week who were risking a week's stay at the Grasmere Hotel almost as soon as it reopened. A typical chintzy Lakeland country hotel, comfortable lounge for pre-dinner drinks. Menus were hard backed and obviously re-used -- they said they were wiped between customers, but in the present climate it's rather unsafe to trust what you can't see! Nice dining room overlooking the garden, tables were spaced out well enough but the staff (also in the lounge) did not wear masks or gloves and leant over the tables to serve the plates. Dinner was a set £37.50 for 3 courses, so we expected something a bit special with some flair at that price. It was O.K., but pretty standard fare. A cheese soufflé starter was rather dense and actually had a sort of skin on it, not very pleasant. Two of us had cannon of lamb main -- it was Herdwick so we expected plenty of flavour, but it was very bland and although we expected this breed to be slightly more "solid" than run-of-the-mill lamb it was rather tough and more chewy than it should have been. Another had daube of beef, a braising steak that the French use in the casserole dish of the same name (daube de boeuf), but that too was tough and probably hadn't been cooked for long enough. Desserts were nice. Overall -- rather underwhelmed, would not choose to eat there again at the price.

I simply adore this place and rarely do i say that. Grasmere is the perfect location for this small hotel run by an amazing family team . This is our fifth year running and it just gets better! The hospitality is first class, the rooms are deligthful and perfectly kept and the food/menu is superb !Its peaceful, its location is excellent and i can only say we will return and i cant wait.What are you waiting for ... Everything for the moment we walked in to the moment we left was excellent. The food was some of the best I’d ever had. Excellent service. A great range of choice. I felt completely looked after and very welcome. The atmosphere was great and everyone around us was making very similar ‘hmmm..’ yummy noises as us so I think this was an all round winner!

Midweek dinner--staying nearby and booked for dinner - comfortable surroundings, food excellent - couldn't manage desserts but they looked fab on other tables, staff very friendly and chatty without being at all intrusive. Definitely recommend

Four of us were staying nearby for Christmas and decided to book a meal at The Grasmere Hotel to celebrate the birthday of my wife’s sister. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat. The hotel lounge is lovely. Comfy seats in a very nicely decorated room and with a roaring fire warming the room. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink while choosing what to eat; I tried a local gin and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is also nicely decorated and the whole place has a fresh feel to it. We were made to feel very welcome and looked after so well. The food was delicious and there is a nice selection of wines. We have dined a few times at the Forest Side and thought this place competed strongly with the quality of food and service we experienced there. We will definitely be back!

El hotel ha sido decorado según la temporada, como se puede ver en las fotos adjuntas, y la primera impresión del establecimiento fue de lujo. La comida que comimos era de calidad excepcional con porciones generosas. Recomiendo encarecidamente la tarta de venado y horneado con crema coagulada y bayas azules. En palabras de Arnie Schwarzenegger "volveremos".

Mientras nos deteníamos en una cabaña pasamos por el Grasmere (un hotel en el que paré muchas veces hace unos años), y por los viejos tiempos, pregunté si podíamos reservar una mesa para nuestro aniversario. La señorita que maneja la recepción no podría haber sido más complaciente y nos presentamos debidamente a su hermana que fue igualmente agradable y acogedora. Resulta que desde que éramos visitantes habituales, el hotel ha cambiado de manos dos veces y las mejoras de los actuales propietarios (cuyas hijas eran la parte delantera de la casa) se han llevado a cabo con buen gusto y con un alto nivel. La comida era deliciosa y una excelente relación calidad-precio por 35 por cabeza con el servicio insuperable, incluso recordaban que era nuestro aniversario y tenía una tarjeta esperándonos en nuestra mesa, un toque agradable. No podemos culpar al Grasmere y fue maravilloso pensar que incluso ha mejorado desde el original, reservaremos una habitación la próxima vez.

What a fabulous place. The staff in this family run hotel were so friendly, yet very efficient and professional. The food was glorious, it was a set priced meal with several courses. There was far more food than we would normally eat, but it was all absolutely delicious. This was a new venue for us in Grasmere, but I have to say it is now a firm favourite, we will definitely be visiting again.

We ate here as we were staying at the hotel. Both are highly recommended. The food is excellent and the service was also great

My friend and I dined here on our last night in Grasmere having tried several other restaurants in the town. We had such a wonderful evening that we felt the need to leave out first ever trip advisor review! We adored the food which was so fresh and tasty and the staff of this family run hotel/restaurant were incredibly friendly and welcoming! Our meal was excellent value for money and we were already talking about staying at the hotel on our next trip back to the Lakes to sample more of the delicious food and enjoy the excellent hospitality of this establishment! My wife and I were greated on arrival and looked after exceptionally well. The pre-dinner lounge is very cosy and traditional helping us to relax and the diner was superb in a very presentable dining room. This is an excellent establishment which far exceeded our expectations. The level of service is excellent.

Was part of a large party and was catered for brilliantly. Staff are sooo helpful. Highly recommend and we will be back!

My sister of 75 married recently to her 75 year old boyfriend of 30 years.

We visited the hotel restaurant for my birthday. Had the four course menu. Great choices across the menu all cooked brilliantly, both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We will definitely return and stay at the hotel on our next visit to Grasmere

Six of us had dinner. My friend and I ordered starters. The table then ordered the 6 mains. Dinners were carried to the table before our starters arrived. Our server apologized so we canceled the starters.

Being let down by the neighbouring hotel (sadly closing down their restaurant before we arrived) we were so happy to secure 3 evening meals in this beautiful hotel. We were treated to a plethora of the most amazing food, the fresh scallops were particularly scrumptious, completely off the scale! Thanks to Nicki, Bex, and especially Charlotte, we were made to feel very welcome and at home, nothing was too much trouble, and they even sang to me & produced a cake on my Birthday..it was wonderful! I can't think of a better place to eat, it's great value for money and the quality of food & service is second to none. To make it perfect, next year I hope we'll be able to stay in the Grasmere Hotel too and enjoy the complete experience! Five*

We had the misfortune of staying nearby at the Travelers Rest and could not face eating there so tried this place and lucky for us they had a cancellation for dinner. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome and comfortable. Lovely building and lounge to enjoy a drink while you look at the menu. The food itself was superb and well worth the £35 for four courses. Service was amazing, each member of the team took the time to engage with the customers and nothing was too much trouble. If the hotel was not fully booked we would have stayed the night but its first on our list when we return.

The traditional ambience of this hotel restaurant in the beautiful environment of Grasmere is worth savouring. The experience began with a friendly welcome to a traditionally appointed lounge for a pre-meal drink with relaxing lounge jazz in the background. The dining room is nicely arranged and lit, the service was attentive and the clientele were quietly enjoying their meals. The four course special was substantial, well prepared and hearty, although for me none of the dishes really 'sang'; I used the table cruets (salt and pepper) to supplement the seasoning for the main course, which is in itself, I suppose, a traditional practice. This was the sort of higher-end fare that stands one in good stead after a day's walking, or ahead of a day walking on the morrow; a tastefully pleasant evening.

We were fortunate to obtain one of the few non-resident tables for our anniversary celebration. The ambiance, service and food were all exceptional and highly recommended. We will return.

We booked a table here as non residents and received fab service from the start. The restaurant opens at seven but we had a drink with a canapé in the lounge. The two women that served us (one of them was the owner) were just lovely and so passionate about what they do. Portions were not big but just right and we left very satisfied after our four course meal. (for only £35!) It is more than value for money and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Grasmere.

As a non resident I booked a birthday breakfast on a Friday morning with my husband and returned on the Sunday night for dinner. On both occasions the food was excellent. What sets this place apart is the friendly welcome and service you receive from the lovely family that run the Grasmere Hotel. The decor of the hotel is very attractive and the view over the lovely garden is special too. The Grasmere Hotel started and ended a perfect birthday weekend for me so I owe them a special thank you. I wouldn't hesitate to return or to recommend The Grasmere Hotel to other diners and I'm sure staying as a guest would be just as special too.

We thoroughly enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the garden next to the river. We enjoyed finishing our nibbles in the lounge and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful meal that was well presented and served in the most well decorated dining room in our two week stay in the Lake District. The service was prompt and professional and the food was good. The hosts are very kind and attentive.

It was an outstanding dining experience from beginning to end. I did not anticipate such an exceptionally delicious meal, it was perfect in every category.

Returned here with my girlfriend at the weekend and we loved every minute. My girlfriend is gluten free and she has never had so much to choose from - she opted for the goats cheese souffle and lamb cutlet - both completely gluten free and delicious! I had the haggis and short rib of beef which was so tender and flavorsome. We finished the evening with Grasmere gingerbread cheesecake and then coffees in the lounge - perfect. Thanks also to the staff who were professional but so friendly at the same time; cant wait to return next time

My friend and I had a wonderful meal and the service we received was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and my dietary needs were met with no problems at all. Many restaurants fail miserably to provide this service so I was most impressed. Delightful staff were courteous, helpful and made us very welcome seating us with a garden view as requested. Food was impeccable, well presented and the four courses provided was very good value. We will definitely be returning and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your restaurant. I was very surprised at the previous reviews as the atmosphere was, relaxed and many people were dressed smart casual which suited you establishment which had a country house feel to it.

My beloved and I came here for dinner. It is a four course meal with choices for each course. I started with haggis, my beloved with crab timbale. Both were lovely. For the next course, I had pea and mint soup (yummy), she had gin and tonic sorbet. (More yumminess). Then I had Herdwick lamb cutlet and mini moussaka, while my beloved had the hake special . Both simply delicious. And for dessert, sticky toffee pudding (never had better) and rhubarb Eton Mess. (Rhubarb? Yes, really. I'd never have thought of it, but it works brilliantly). A stunning meal, and wonderful service made for a truly memorable meal. And the price for four courses? £35. Go there. Really. It's a bargain.

We had one dinner at this place during our stay in Grasmere and were not disappointed. The service was of the most friendly and helpful nature. Dinner is a fixed price 4 course event with good choices of each course and excellent value.

Mi esposa y yo comimos aquí para cenar como no residentes. El hotel es encantador, con una decoración de buen gusto y hermosos jardines. El personal, el servicio y la bienvenida son tan encantadores como el hotel. El servicio de comida es una de mis mayores quejas en los establecimientos finos, ya que generalmente es demasiado lento. Aquí el ritmo es justo y como una máquina bien aceitada. Nada fue apresurado y la comida fue servida a un ritmo perfecto. Y la comida es deliciosa. Una amplia elección y fina pero llena. Ciertamente suficiente después de un día caminando.

We treated ourselves to a meal in the Grasmere Hotel as it has such a good reputation and we wanted to do something special on our Saturday evening. We were so glad we did. From the minute you walk in you feel like you are a film star, browsing the menu with an aperitif in the wonderful lounge. Service was attentive but low key (just how we like it) and the food was obviously a labour of love - an outstanding evening.

Made to feel very welcome, excellent service and fine food in comfortable pleasant surroundings. Good menu choice, food is well presented with prompt and friendly service. We will certainly return on our next visit to Grasmere later this year.

We had booked dinner for our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome, with great attention to detail. We were shown into the lounge area were we received a surprise of champagne from our family which was lovely. The decor is beautiful and the food was outstanding. We will definitely return and tell our friends.

From the welcome on arrival to attention to every detail during dinner the service offered by staff was exceptional. The hotel lounge is very comfortable with lovely decor. The menu choice was very good. Everything was delicious and flavours well matched. As everything was so tasty it’s difficult to choose one favourite dish but the crab and prawn timbale was particularly delicious and very fresh tasting.

We managed to get a table last minute and I’m so glad we did! We arrived and were greeted warmly and shown into the lounge where we sat and chose our meals and enjoyed a drink ! We were then taken into the restaurant where we enjoyed four courses of beautiful food ! Everything was lovely from start to finish ! I would of happily paid double for what we had tonight !

We love eating out and often treat ourselves to a special dinner and my goodness was this special.

Simply superb! The attention of the details in food presentation, taste, service and attention to the customer was unique to it's style and memorable! We've dined in many places but never received the attention we had at the Grasmere Hotel Restaurant, especially for the price you pay. For 35£ each there is a four course meal: we had cheese shuffle and haggis bonbon both delicious. The venison was the best we ever had, juicy, tender, pink and mouth watering. The sticky toffee pudding was something I'll always remember, the brownie instead was good but nothing too special. The food was just outstanding and the serving experience delivered by the staff made it even more memorable. I'll definitely would travel far to come back here, just to dine here again! 5+ stars!

Such a fantastic family run hotel and restaurant. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is always superb and the service is second to none. Can’t wait for our next visit.

OK not that secret as the Grasmere Hotel rightly comes out as the top eatery in Grasmere but we were still bowled over by its fabulousness.

We returned to the Grasmere Hotel for an evening meal twice while we were in the area recently and it never fails to impress. The food is excellent and the ambiance is old fashioned country house at a high standard. From the moment we were shown to the lounge and offered amuses bouche with our drinks and the menu, through to our return to the lounge for coffee and chocolate, we enjoyed every minute. The service is unobtrusive but friendly, and there are a good variety of wonderful choices on the menu. We will look forward to a return next time we are visiting the area.

From the minute we walked into the hotel to be warmly greeted, to the minute we left, our dining experience was perfect.

We like Grasmere and enjoy trying the different options for evening meals. This one was a delight. Warm welcome. Excellent service. Comfortable and beautifully decorated lounge and dining room. Fantastic food. What else could you ask for- oh and modest price given the quality.

Called in on the off chance they could accommodate us for dinner at last minute and happily, they could - very friendly welcome upon arrival - lovely lounge and dining room. Fantastic menu - wonderful value - delicious food. Can't say enough nice things about it and can't wait to go back - thank you to everyone.

We visited this lovely hotel restaurant again as non residents and enjoyed it so much that we booked three separate evenings during our week's holiday at a self catering cottage in Grasmere. In our opinion, no other restaurant in the village comes close. The menu is varied and the flavour and cooking of each course is well executed. The service is attentive, professional and very friendly. The only downside is that we now have to wait another 12 months to return! In the meantime I am going to get my cookbooks out and try and master that fabulous cheese souffle....I chose it each of the 3 evenings for my starter and it really was excellent.

La comida estaba muy bien presentada y bien cocinada. el ambiente del restaurante y el salón son tradicionales pero bien ejecutados y en un orden decorativo muy elegante. Una velada muy agradable.

Our second visit and we stayed in a very cosy room. There is a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the food could not be better - a really good place to stay particularly at this time of year.

Como mi esposo y yo tenemos que ser extremadamente cuidadosos con lo que podemos comer, el menú ha sido excepcionalmente bueno para nosotros, una excelente selección de entrantes, seguido de sopa o sorbete. , luego una selección de siete platos principales que incluyen dos platos vegetarianos, deliciosos postres, todos con diferentes helados, además de una selección de helados. Todo atendido por personal muy atento.

Qué experiencia tan agradable es cenar en el Hotel Grasmere. Como no residentes, nos dieron una cálida bienvenida al llegar y nos llevaron a la sala de huéspedes, bellamente amueblada. Aquí nos sirvieron bebidas con pequeños aperitivos, uno hecho sin lácteos, especialmente para mí. Luego los invitados fueron llevados al comedor en parejas o grupos. El ambiente aquí es refinado.

My wife and I had dinner in this hotel as non residents recently and booked here as we had previously had a bad experience in a nearby starred hotel.

We visited here on Fri 24th Aug, and managed to get a table at very short notice due to a cancellation.

Such a fabulous find in Grasmere. Lovely hotel, lounge, ambience and most importantly delicious food, cooked to perfection and fairly priced.

We stayed here for a couple of nights so decided to dine on our first night. It's a gorgeous setting, overlooking the fields and fells, such a beautiful calming and relaxing view from the dining area. Whilst browsing the evening menu, we started off with Gin cocktails, the Nordes gin served with Fever Tree tonics........superb.

We were lucky enough to get a non resident table by booking well in advance. It was well worth it, from the moment we arrived having got soaked in a sudden downpour to the moment we left we were treated superbly. The four course menu provides many wonderful dishes served by attentive and knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are considering staying in the hotel next time we visit!

Outstanding service and food from start to finish. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with a lovely welcoming atmosphere, delicious food and friendly and attentive staff. Don't waste your money on Forest Side, make sure you book here during your stay in Grasmere. We had the 4 course for £32 and found the food excellent and good value for money.

Everything about our evening was perfect. The booking , drinks in a comfortable lounge before dinner, delicious food, exquisite service, and tea and coffee served in The lounge after dinner. British service and elegance at its finest. Would highly recommend for a special night out. Surprisingly affordable was a bonus. Thank you for a wonderful evening

We had dinner here one evening in June. Excellent food and service in a pleasant dining room. The menu has some interesting combinations of flavours, for example the smoked mackerel scotch egg starter. I was ambivalent about whether this flavour combination worked for me, but the texture and presentation were superb.

The restaurant at the Grasmere Hotel is not to be missed. Competitive with any big city upscale, top of the line restaurant we've visited including Spiaggia in Chicago, for example. The service provided by Kevin and Charlotte is without fault. The chef is inventive and the four meals we ate at the restaurant (two dinners and two breakfasts) were wonderful. If you are in the Lake District and can get to dinner here, don't miss it

This is a beautiful dining room which has a lovely view into a peaceful garden. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and very well prepared. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.

We were staying locally and wanted to treat ourselves for our wedding anniversary. After reading the great reviews about the Grasmere Hotel we thought we would give it a try. We weren’t disappointed! I had the rarebit, soup and Jacobs ladder (braised beef), while wifey went for terrine, sorbet and chicken. We both went for the chocolate dessert. The whole meal was fab and all the staff were lovely too. It was a really nice evening and I’d thoroughly recommend a visit.
