I came in today with three friends who are over from Canada. We all had leek and potato soup and a sandwich. The soup was, awful it tasted of vinegar! We asked for it to be changed, so we had tomato and basil, which tasted like vinegar again! One of my friends managed to eat hers! I was not offered a refund! Do chefs/cooks not taste the food anymore before sending it out to customers? Would not recommend.

Stayed at the Priory Hotel for 3 days, and absolutely loved it. The staff were very friendly, and extremely helpful. The breakfast served in the mornings was a welcome treat, and the pub downstairs was a great spot to hang after a long day. The room was quite comfortable, and the location scenic. Next time I’m back near Cartmel, I will try to stay here

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever tasted such tasteless food! It’s laughable how bad the Sunday lunch is. Over priced and horrible….. absolutely wouldn’t recommend. Service by the owner was terrible, you would think they wanted to please customers but obviously not! The young waiter was lovely and that’s the only thing I could say was ok.

What an absolute shambles! After a beautiful weekend in cartmel . We decided to stop off for our lunch before heading home. We ordered four Sunday lunches ! Four ham sandwiches & four chips ! I had also asked to purchase some meat for my dog . Which was refused. Which was fine , however the manner in which it was done was not fine . But I let that go. Eventually once our food came. It was clear it was as good at the owners people skills ! Not one clear plate 😕 which in its self should of been a warning sign for the staff that there customers stomach's where not satisfied!! The owner then asked would I like to purchase meat for my dog . In which I told him I wouldn't serve that meat to my dog, I had difficulty cutting & chewing it myself & that no body had enjoyed there meals ! His response was to shrug his shoulders ,say "Okay" and walk off ! Only we had paid for the meals at the bar, I would of certainly refused to settle the food bill. We had spent nearly £180 pound for nothing . I could sort of understand if the restaurant area had been full ,but our family was the only ones eating . But what I don't understand is rude people & why would put yourself in that role if you clearly don't like public / tourists !!

Popped in here for some lunch after being charmed by (I assume) the owner. What a mistake! Shown in to the front room and ordered food for the four of us consisting of a sandwich each and a drink. Despite our protestations the gentleman continued to bombard us with extra food suggestions which we politely declined. The food itself was ok. The ham looked cheap and the cheese likewise. Upon leaving we asked for the bill which astounded us. When I queried it the gentleman just smiled and told us that was the going rate in these parts and as we weren’t local we didn’t understand how it worked. We paid but explained we weren’t happy about it. We could see menus available at the side but as we’d already been told of every sandwich option we didn’t check the prices. Our mistake on that one. As we drove through the square as we left Cartmel we could see him speaking to another family in the doorway of the hotel. Hopefully they didn’t fall victim as well!

Having visited the village which was lovely, we looked forward to a tasty Steak and ale pie! Menu read very well on paper! However, sad surroundings, lack lustre service from a waiter who only had one other table to worry about. Both my husband and I ordered the Steak and ale pie, it came served on a hot plate (thank you for that), with chips, a pot of “gravy” and some mushy peas. Tasteless pie, tough and chewy beef, 2 small slices of old carrots, no sauce and to add insult to injury, soggy pastry Horrible pre cooked chips which tasted old. Gravy (or should I say stock cube or Bisto gravy??!!) terrible. Spoke to the manager who was not happy with our comments and we were told we were the “very first to complain about their food”!!! REALLY??? Sad. I can’t say what the rest of their menu is like, but I can say that there was no love or attention taken to making and serving our meal. Never again.

Stayed here 2 nights mid week. On entering there is a dining room to the left & a small but well stocked bar to the right. I was given the keys to my room, which overlooked the square. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean & balanced modern with traditional. There is a little outside noise due to the single glazed sash windows, but due to the location, there is limited traffic, so it doesn’t really bother. Sane again for internal noise. It’s a historic building so be prepared for the occasional creaks and knocks. I had breakfast on one of the mornings, which was excellent, and enjoyed a pint later at the outside tables. The bar seems to be very much the locals pub, but not in an unwelcoming way. Staff were pleasant and all requests accommodated. This place is the epitome of a good Inn, and it does it very well.

Popped in having seen the board outside offering scampin& chips. Great service, we sat out front in the sun and watched the world go by in the square. Nice beer and super food. Thoroughly enjoyable and great value.

We only had drinks in here but atmosphere was great - our favourite for tipple in the village. Very dog friendly, as well.

My wife and I visited this establishment for a quick bite to eat and as there were only one other table of four,we thought this would be ideal. We ordered a portion of scampi and a pie. This took 40 minutes to arrive. The other table had ordered, eaten, payed their bill and left before we had received our food!! When the food finally arrived the portion size was massive which is certainly not a bad thing and tasted good. The service was average, some of the staff could have smiled a little more, maybe even offered condiments for the meal.As a customer I wasn't really interested in whether room 1 was done yet or not and think this could have been communicated between the staff a little more discreetly. The manager/boss was apologetic about the wait, which is a good thing.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life, for a 30th birthday celebration courtesy of Lucy’s on a plate Ambleside! I honestly don’t know where to begin with this, maybe the appalling manager, slow service, bland overpriced food, not sure really but here we go. So we email this place the previous evening to our booking enquiring about a reservation for 2 people, we heard nothing until WE contacted them around 3/4pm the following day to be told “oh yes im just on with the bookings now and was just about to call you”which I didn’t believe but that’s fine, on the phone I explained it was a special 30th birthday meal for my partner as they asked were we celebrating an occasion. We were looking forward to our meal and arrived slightly early about 6.20 for a 7pm table, we thought we could maybe have a drink if they had a bar or somewhere to wait for the table. We were shocked to see the manager fumbling around with his booking sheet to clearly see he didn’t have our names down, just to write us in in front of him, he then makes a joke saying “that would of been embarrassing”yeah it certainly would have been embarrassing so not a great start at all, we sit down to read the menu and notice some essay on the front talking about the guests and what they were celebrating, no mention of my partners 30th birthday just a half arsed after thought saying hello Andrew and Rhianne, as we were clearly forgotten about. After looking at the menu we decided to go for 2 pork belly starters £12 each and lamb shank £28 and lamb tagine £24, starters came out pretty quickly around 10-15 mins so great, unfortunately BLAND!! The apple puree could of been anything as there was no flavour at all, no sweetness to balance the dish just the flavour or pork and a little black pudding Bon Bon, BLAND! Then we wait for almost 1 hour, yes 1 hour for the main, asking the waiting staff how long, got told if it’s not here in 5 mins I’ll go and punch the chef, yes haha very funny but just get me my food I wasn’t up for jokes by this time, then the mains come, my lamb shank was dry had next to no sauce or should I say gravy at all, the mash was lukewarm the veg the same and very undercooked, I’m all for al dente but this just wasn’t and a piece of parsnip no bigger then your little finger, this place is a long way off fine dining! I asked for some more sauce and was brought a gravy boat of wishy washy gravy that they must use on every dish! Honestly very similar to a bisto gravy, where’s the lamb flavour or the reduced stock to coat the lamb shank, absolutely nothing! My partner said the lamb tagine was lukewarm again but after waiting an hour we were so hungry we just ate it, she said the cous cous was just bland and had nothing special about it, she said the cous cous from Sainsbury’s ‘food on the go’ was much nicer, why is this when we’re paying all this money? We also noticed there was no check back to see how we were enjoying the food as tbh they just weren’t bothered! When our plates were cleared(25 mins after we had finished) we were asked was everything ok, I said hmm yeah ok to which the waitress replied “ok yeah” great and takes the plates. This is where I would of informed the manager that someone was not very happy and suggest they go and speak to them! I was very reluctant to say anything because I’m aware I’m celebrating my partners 30th and didn’t want to make a scene, after such terrible service and food we just couldn’t order a dessert as we weren’t going to give these people my more of our money, we receive the bill at £115 for 2 starters 2 mains and 2 drinks each one of those was non alcoholic. Very overpriced for the quality you receive. Then to top the night off I go to pay, this is where the manger really shows his lack of experience, from me counting out the money to pay he never once asked “how was your meal” how did your partner enjoy her 30th birthday celebration” nothing! Didn’t even say enjoy your evening, honestly I recommend you research this place before going here as it’s beyond bad!

Wonderful place. Small roads that were interesting to drive on. However, the room was really lovely and the afternoon tea was sublimely good. Hill top was right next door too. A really great place with several wonderful walks around it.

First few times I've tried here it's been nice but the last few times I've had carbonara pasta it has been so bland, the man behind the counter had dirty hands as well not good for health & hygiene 🤢🤢 It just put me right off
