Far Cross Chippy in South Lakeland

Guy with bald head serving needs to chill out! I ordered chips cheese and gravy, young lad served me and barely put enough cheese on to cover 3 chips so I POLITELY asked if he could put on a touch more.. bald guy pipes up that will be extra charge before walking over and seeing my food and admitting ‘ah yeah you’ve been a little tight with the cheese’ and putting more on. However he continued to bark at me about how expensive the cost of cheese is and he’s there to run a business! LOL I didn’t ask… I just wanted a fair portion. Although i would love to go back and support their business (as clearly they are struggling) I won’t be spoken to like that and embarrassed in front of other customers! Rude rude rude.

The best fish and chips we have EVER had!!!! The fish was so light and crispy, then just fell apart, the chips were cooked to perfection and the gravy could have been drank on its own (it was sooo good!) Service was fast and great communication coming from the staff :) We will definitely be back - Thank you guys

We ordered 2 haddock and chips. Batter was horrible, overdone, way too thick and too much for the amount of fish. The chips were even worse! Very hard, barely edible. Worst fish and chips we have had for a long time.

Great Fish & Chips. They cooked a huge order for our company in record time. Very friendly and a pleasure to deal with.

Found it very expensive and quality wasn't the best. 17.10 for standard fish, cheesy chips (tight on cheese) a mini fish and chips and a tub of curry sauce. Batter on fish was a bit soggy, and the fish slightly dry. Certainly won't rush back.

I was away with my boyfriend and we read the reviews for this chip shop and decide to try it. Unfortunately it was the worst fish and chips I have had. Fish was small no cod available. Haddock was small and dry with a strange taste would try another shop if your looking. Sadly disappointed.

This Chippy provides a well-cooked, tasty, meal, time-after-time, at reasonable prices. I used-to work nearby; and, now, when I have made a special detour towards this faithful chippy, as I finish my meal and the last morsel goes down, I find myself promising myself: "I really must come here more often." The quality and service is rock-solid.

We both have been using Farcross chippy for some time now, and have never been disappointed with the food and staff. Ed and his staff are always very polite when you are ordering your order. The food has always been great can't get enough of it. One if not the best chippy in Kendal you'll go far to get any better...

Having been seduced by the bright lights of Fryday's, it was nice to return to Kendal's finest, best value chippy 'Far Cross Chippy'. Just had a well done fish & chips, can't remember having better anywhere, simply superb.....

On holiday jusy North of Kendal, went here on recommendations. It did not disappoint. Fresh and tatsy fish and chips.

What is it with fish and chip shops in Kendal? Service absolutely hopeless. Waited nearly 10 mins and they only served one person. Still fifth in queue wasn't waiting any longer. Didn't appear short of staff just disorganised.

Really impressed, chips crispy and fresh, superb fish - as good as I've tasted in a long time with excellent batter. Topped off with homemade mushy peas. Fish not as big as many modern chippies - but size isn't everything...... Absolutely memorable!!

Enjoyed fish and chips on a friday evening whilst on holiday in Kendal.

Best chippy in town, I personally go for the smokey sausage, curry sauce with medium chips with a cloudy lemonade chaser. They have a mini menu, daily specials and a nice selection of pickled eggs and onions furthermore the buns come fully equipped with butter on both sides which is really good for that self built fish and chip and tartare sauce butty. The staff are great and friendly, they gave me a nickname "sausage dave"

Best fish and chips great value for money

We had always heard positive things about Far Cross in the past, so massively disappointed, the chips were so bad that both our portions went in the bin. Don't know what they're doing differently, but the chips were lukewarm, rock hard and just so so dry, like they'd been cooked a week ago. Scampi was nice, but we're both still hungry since that's all we had!! Please sort it out, you're just stealing people's money at the moment.

It's handy not badly priced and when the food is fresh it's nice but to often kept warm then it's disappointing

We got scampi, chicken and cheesey chips with curry and all were delicious. Super affordable and the best cheesey curried chips I'd ever had. Will definitely be going back there whenever in Kendal!

This was one of the first places to reopen in Kendal after lockdown and is a regular place for our Friday night fish and chips. The fish and chips are excellent and good value, and the staff are fast and friendly. They have an efficient ordering system in place and you can book a slot or just turn up. Booking is recommended to save waiting. All staff are masked and distancing is well maintained. If you've booked just go straight up and announce your name at the door and the food is ready in just a few minutes. Warmly recommended!

Was in two minds whether to visit this shop but the ratings looked good. Went at 4.35 shortly after opening for the evening. Walk up only/carry out. Said cooked to order. waited 10 mins. Got order and headed home (15 mins). On opening (they parcel it up behind the counter where you cannot see). The fish, two pieces, was swimming in grease and overcooked with awful tasting batter, and the chips were the other extreme, barely cooked! I love fish and chips but will never visit this place again and advise others to shy away. There are others in Kendal. I was going to the Fish Express but this happened to be a bit more convenient so thought I would try it. Big mistake.

Decent little chippy, and very east to reach from the train station. The chips are crisp and golden - I prefer a light brown myself, but that's a matter of taste. Not cheap, but not too dear anyhow.

The shop was full at 7pm on a very wet February Wednesday evening and that said one thing it’s good fish and chips Despite being full the fish was cooked to order it came quickly Only one fish haddock today but it was good maybe shops down south could learn something every fish type of fish available and not always as fresh why? How you like your batter is a very long book and then no agreement but most important the fish was not over cooked.

Not bad for a lunch time fish and chips. Bit disappointed that there was no cod on offer .. only haddock. Reasonable price (£6.90 for medium f+c plus can of fizz and a tartare sauce sachet). Chips were ever so slightly on the under-done side for my taste but still good for a tummy filler.
