Fish-over-Chips in South Lakeland

Called in the evening and enjoyed fish and chips, friendly staff advised on gluten free options of which battered jumbo sausage and gravy were delicious. If you're staying in Grange over Sands or passing through to the Lake District, definitely worth stopping by for food. Highly recommended.

Spent the weekend away with the wife for our 17th wedding anniversary. We went to Fish over Chips for some food. Really great chippy and you can also eat in, and there's seating outside. If it's nice weather. Would highly recommend.

So we decided to dine in tonight, Our waiter was an older gent called rob or ron couldn’t quite catch it. Absolutely hilarious with a fantastic humour. It’s good to see they employ elderly waiting on staff to entertain the customers. Very friendly and warm, with stories of the good old days including the war and Vietnam! Food was 10/10 with the best gf curry sauce around! The manageress was harassed with a large que but never faltered with her customer services. The young handsome lad on the fryer was doing a grand job too! Fresh cooked fish and gorgeous chip!

Okay it was just a portion of chips… but so many fish and chip shops provide bland and flavourless chips (how is that even possible?) These were absolutely not, and full of different flavours!

Superb service, nothing too much trouble. Never been asked before our visit if we would like teapot refilled or would we like extra chips.

We sat in, and were returning customers after enjoying the food there from our last trip to the lakes. The fish and chips and sausage and chips were nice. The curry sauce was delicious and would recommend that. The service was great from the teenage lad working however when the older man working found out we were on our honeymoon having just got married, the response was not “congratulations” as it should have been but, “we’ll see how long that lasts”. Left a bitter taste and will not be returning.

Found this place while visiting I had fish and chips here, a rather busy place with average size portions, great staff chips were nice fish was okay too, I would recommend it I cannot say anything was different from any other chip shop.

Went there after a hard day's mountain biking at Grizedale and it was just perfect. The service was friendly and efficient. The batter on the fish was delicious and the chips were perfection! Highly recommend.

Great fish and chips at very reasonable prices. You can eat in but why bother when you can sit by the water and enjoy Morecambe Bay.

We sat inside for a fish and chip supper and were not disappointed. We enjoyed our fish, chips and mushy peas with a large pot of tea (replenished as well!). It was nice to hear the friendly staff chatting with their regular customers. The owner was welcoming and friendly and the food well cooked and generous portions. Definitely a good choice!

Just been for our tea,i had fish and chips and my wife had mixed kebab meat with chips and salad. Food was served promply and both meals were freshly prepared,tasty,huge portions and excellent value for money. The staff were very friendly especially the gentlemen who took our order and brought us our meals. Can't recommend the place highly enough and when we are back in the area we will call in again !!!!!!!!

We had a delicious takeaway here, and very efficient service. Great to see a dedicated gluten free menu. Also the milkshake menu looked yummy but we didn't try this.

Chips nice BUT customer service from older man was confrontational and racist. When ordering a few bags of chips to end a lovely day of walking with friends, the last thing we expected or wanted was to be questioned incessantly about being a ‘real vegan’ and that there was no such thing. Then, the ‘lovely’ man made racist comments about one of my friends being from Bradford - ‘They all wear turbans there don’t they?!’ We could’t get out quickly enough, the two younger staff looked uncomfortable & apologetic as did the seemingly local customer next in the queue who said ‘at least the chips are nice!’ Absolutely never again!

Popped in for some food and met by an incredibly racist person serving us!! A very dissatisfied person

We enjoyed lovely take away from here with vegetarian and vegan options and good value for money.

Delicious fish and chips, generous portions and friendly staff. Food was cooked to perfection and staff were always attentive and the generous sauces they give you were a welcome addition. I had to give them a 5 star review for going above and beyond to offer an unforgettable experience. Customer experience is a dying tradition in UK but this chippy nailed it!

Brilliant,absolutely lovely place it's just a shame I'm not closer and only visited while on a short holiday. The gluten free menu was why we visited as I have to be careful but practically everything is gluten free from the sausages to the pizzas,plenty of options if you're in need of a takeaway while needing to ensure it's gluten free.

I'm sorry to say this was the second worse fish and chips I have ever had. Having had a very difficult day, we stopped to pick up our dinner from here. The steak cut chips and over cooked fish looked like they had come straight out of Lidl's freezer and into the fryer. When it was put on a plate a dark yellow oil started to pool in the middle of the plate. The fish was over cooked and the chips were under cooked. I could not recommend this to anyone.

3 pudding and chips terrible supposed to be steamed,think re heated or micro waved,worst pudding n chips ever,with another meal we purchased near 30 pounds,Never again.Sort yourselves out.

Busy little shop food was good apart from the kebab which was awful. Everyone else enjoyed their food and the prices are very good.

Very very busy on first day opening after Christmas! Lots of locals! Tasty food especially the fish, prompt service, wish I'd tried the haggis and chips! Thought it would take longer so had a pie, but it was there ready to be served after all! We bought Large fish and chips ( fish was delicious, chips possibly had a tiny bit too much vinegar) Fish n chips Battered sausage and chips Steak and kidney pie and chips ( nice and crispy pastry) Gravy Mushy peas

We have been twice recently, the first time the fish was nice but the chips looked like reheated scraps and were too hard to eat. We gave them the benefit of the doubt as the fish was good and tried again. Same result. I don't know if it's because we were taking them away and you can get away with handing out rock hard cold chips as you don't know until you get home, or if it's just how they think they should be but, that's the last time for me. I have had softer pork scratchings than these hard dregs of chips.

Walked in, sat down, was attended to immediately. Gave our order straight away. It cameo in a few minutes, we stopped talking and ate it with gusto - it was delicious. Can't wait to return in a few weeks time. Did I say all the Staff were very friendly, cheerful and attentive.

We've been away in a campervan through Wales and now here at the lake district. We popped in here for fish and chips and wow, great food at amazing prices. Staff were friendly and the place was very clean. I highly recommend this for your food stop.

Superb little find after a long drive. Really friendly staff, served quickly. Absolutely awesome chips, nice and crispy. Even has a few uncommon items to my Scottish wife's glee. Haggis sausage and hot vimto. Just what's needed when camping in October. Will definitely be back as we visit the area frequently.

My new favourite chippy since going gluten free. Loads of options. Sat in with my family on Saturday. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere.

Came twice over weekend while on holiday in the area can't fault the food we ate. Highly recommend the fresh pizzas! Can eat in aswel for extra fee. Few parking spaces out front.

We are starting for a couple of nights in Grange over Sands and with my wife being coeliac we tend to have some challenges at times purchasing gluten free food. Fish over chips not only ticks the box for a vast gluten free menu, but the service within the restaurant was second to none! The food was delicious and consisted of gluten free fish and chips with the best curry sauce we've had in a long time, jumbo scampi, chips, mushy peas and steamed fish, topped off for me with two slices of bread and butter and a gallon of tea! I just wished we lived more locally but if we're back in the area we will definitely be headed for another fix!

I can’t begin to praise this place enough. Grange is a small place. If they wanted to, as the only show in town, this chippy could get away with being average. They are not average. The cafe is reasonably priced, the mushy peas are to die for, the chips are beautiful and the fish is proper fillet in light batter. I got a massive pot of coffee and it was nice and strong. Tartare sauce homemade. Big bowls of tomato sauce. When they say big fish and chips, they mean big. The takeaway was packed, the restaurant full and the guys serving were polite, smiley and efficient. They even have a pizza/kebab takeaway next door. Highly recommended.

There is a difference between the amount charged and the value with the amount received. It would be easy for them to not be 'economical' with the amount of chips compared to the price paid

Absolutely delicious fish, chips & mushy peas. Will definitely be calling again for lots more of the same. Staff smiled and were very polite but friendly, everything was so fresh and we didn't have to wait very long at all. I'm one of those weird folk who can't eat chips with grey or black bits in them, don't mock, it's a genuine thing (to me anyway 🍟) these were perfect, clean, fluffy inside with crispy edges, just heaven. The fish was a very good size, batter again for my fussy self, wasn't hard but crispy while still having a soft texture, peas were exactly as mushy peas should be, none of that squashed marrowfat flavourless rubbish with the skins in. All in all lovely clean shop, friendly and efficient staff and some of the best fish chips and mushy peas I've had in a very long time, thank you Fish Over Chips, will be back and highly recommend to everyone. 😋 💞🤗💞

Plenty of food at a good price. Fish was thinner than we are used to buy was ok. Kebabs and chips were tasty. Wide variety of food including the usual fish and chip type items, but also pizza, kebabs etc. They also had butchers large sausages as well as the usual jumbo sausage. I'd go back

e eat here regularly. Wide range of dishes on offer plus specials. They will meet with any reasonable request i.e. my wife is very fond of double egg & chips & beans . My favourite, omelettes, comes with cheese, mushroom & tomatoes or any combination of them. They are very vegetarian friendly and even have vegetarian gravy which I particularly enjoy. I used to eat cheese and mushroom omelette for most lunchtime meals when we holidayed in France. Fish Over Chips omelettes compare very favourably in my opinion. From memory the owner has a smallholding where he keeps free range hens which go into the omelettes. The place is spotless as are the toilets. Always greet us with a smile and a friendly welcome. It's a real pleasure to eat there and we always look forward to it every time we go to Grange Over Sands. This is how a chip shop and dining room ought to be run

Very good chippy, on my visit the queue was out of the door but it was worth the wait. I had fish which was lovely and white and the batter was thin and crispy. The chips though were outstanding, even though it was busy they made sure the chips were cooked well which indicates they won’t let substandard food be served. Very good would highly recommend, and will visit again if in the area.

A fantastic traditional chippy. We always eat in and enjoy the banter and repartee of the host. Very good fish and chips and a big pot of tea. Who could want for anything more ?

Read the reviews so thought we’d try this place while on holiday. Not the best tbh, didn’t live up to the reviews. A large fish isn’t….its 2 smaller pieces so thin fillets. Not what was expected or what we’re used to at local chippys at home. Food was average at best

Large fish and chips x 2, curry sauce and mushy peas from Fish over chips in Grange Over Sands £20. We had read loads of reviews which were really positive, we were very disappointed. The batter was soggy and not pleasant. The cod and haddock both tasted the same. We had 1 large cod and 1 large haddock, which was 2 smaller bits. The chips were ok, but not great. Overpriced for what we got I think

Excellent traditional chippy, great fish and chips, good size portions, good value and really friendly service. They also do the best gluten free fish we’ve ever come across. No complaints, so good that we went back to check and just as good 2nd time around. Sit in or take away I think it’s worth the effort to seek this place out.

The fish and chips were ok but nothing to rave about, the curry sauce I wasn't impressed at all, it was like gravy and curry mixed together. But the main thing we were disappointed with was paying £3.50 for pizza bites and getting 4 little balls, shocking! Wouldn't order from here again sorry

Superb food, extensive gluten free menu, delicious homemade tartare sauce , large portions. They make homemade pizza from scratch, I didn’t have it, however a group on the table near us did and it looked mouthwatering. Added this place to my favourites list

I liked everything very much. Service at a high level. You can take food with you or eat in a cafe. If you decide to stay in the cafe, you won’t have to stand at the counter waiting for your order; the cafe workers will come up to your table and take your order. While waiting for a delicious dish, you can order a pot of tea. The food is fresh and delicious.

Just called in for teatime fish and chips as staying the area. Looks to be well used by local community. Food was very good. Service was excellent, they really made us feel welcome. Good value for money.

Really loved this chippy. They have such a good choice of food & drinks.They cater towards gluten-free, vegetarian, specific dietary needs. You just let them know that what you need, nothing is too much trouble for them. You can eat in or take away & prices are fair too with good-sized portions. We go here every time we visit the Lakes they're that good. I'd recommend them to anyone visiting the area.
