We started December in style with a fantastic Festive Afternoon Tea at The Grand Southport.
The food was sensational, hand made by Callum King and his team. Because everything is freshly baked and prepared, they need at least 24 hours notice for bookings.
You can see why; there’s an extraordinary level of detail in each individual item.
What a wonderful way to eat with family, friends or loved ones.
Take your time as you delve into a treasure trove of treats; it’s a tough choice to work out where to start first!
The hand made fruit scones were superb, served with pots of Cornish clotted cream and Hawkshead strawberry preserve (we’ll let you decide which one should go on first…)
There is a range of tastes and textures with the savoury items, which include: roast turkey with cranberry sauce; devilled egg mayonnaise and chives; cured salmon, caper berry and watercress tarts; cream cheese, mint and cucumber sandwiches; cranberry and orange sausage rolls; and parsnip soup.
Real festive flavours and some big crowd pleasers.
Make sure you leave room, because desserts are coming, and you won’t want to miss these.
They include: lemon and blueberry posset; chocolate and pistachio delice; lemon and poppy seed cake; almond slice; and mince pie.
Warming pots of tea are a great addition, or you can upgrade to mulled wine or Champagne.
It’s all enjoyed in the beautiful setting of The Grand on Lord Street, a stunning 101 year old art deco landmark building which takes you back to the glamour of the roaring 1920s after the venue’s £5 million transformation.
Festive Afternoon Tea is an elegant, indulgent, delicious way to enjoy the Christmas season in a unique dining experience.

Style over substance.
We went for my wife's birthday and the welcome was really nice, albeit her complementary prossecco turned up ten minutes before everyone else's drinks.
The mains were very much a mixed bag. Cod loin was good but the lamb rump was full of sinue and gristle. My daughter couldn't cut hers with a steak knife and mine despite being very pink was tough. Both were sent back and when they returned they were clearly the same pieces of meat, over cooked, still full of gristle, and mine was monumentally over salted.
As a piece of good will we were offered free desserts which was a nice gesture, but my wife's ice cream arrived a good 10 minutes before the rest of the desserts, the chocolate fondant was a very nice cake, but no fondant and the sticky toffee sundae had filling ripper rather than honeycomb and the sponge was very dry.
As a positive at least we didn't get the mandatory optional service charge added to our bill.
Go to Sorrento's if you are in the village.
My mum and I called in for lunch this afternoon. Lovely and cosy restaurant with lovely staff and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend the food here as it is freshly prepared and delicious, and a very reasonably priced menu and drinks. I recommend the braised steak baguette and the sticky toffee pudding. Great music as well. Many thanks, we will definitely be back!!
I have not been to Shamraat for a few years as normally I eat in at Naz Indian restaurant in Hesketh Bank which I love… but I decided to order a takeaway from Shamraat as my wife was out with a friend in Southport. I ordered prawn and puri starter and King Prawn Ceylon for main. The starter was quite nice… but the main meal tasted very bland and watery and whilst I accept takeaway food can get a bit watery due to transporting home… it was tasteless and had clearly not been seasoned… which is normally a given for chefs to do. I was really disappointed and it only made me realise how good the food at my usual Indian restaurant is in comparison… sorry Shamraat, but I will not be coming back.
What a lovely place, just like being back on holiday in Greece, the staff are all very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. Highly recommended, will be back soon.
For Twenty Five Years this has been our go to place to celebrate special Dates, Birthday's, Wedding Anniversaries, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and always our first Port of call when returning from abroad, Food always excellent, service was like you were part of the Family and the atmosphere was so relaxed it was like eating in your own Dinning Room, sadly Ryan ( the owner) contacted us today to let us know he has closed the Doors for the last time, devastated by the News, but had to say to all at Fuegos, thanks for the last 25 Years, you will be missed and to be totally honest irreplaceable.
