Shop side has good range of local products and luxury additions - cafe nicely laid out and welcoming. Wine & beer available. We had a late sandwich lunch - Brie & bacon was well filled and beautifully melting. Roast beef sandwiches were tasty and had epic horseradish and piquant crunchy salad on the side.

Had a fabulous lunch with friends for my birthday. What an ABSOLUTE hidden gem this place is! (I recommend that you save space for cake after lunch too, trust me, you'll be glad that you did!) They love dogs, and even have doggie sausages! There's a large outdoor area too. Thanks to all the staff there, they were wonderful. ... And thanks for my birthday candles too (you're never too old). Came across Chestnut Meats while searching to buy some kid for Easter as my local butchers were extremely unhelpful. The service I received from ordering to delivery was faultless. They were happy to discuss over the phone my particular butchery requirements and the kid was delivered today and it was exactly as I had asked. Excellent looking meat and I can’t wait to prep and cook it this Easter Sunday. I’ll definitely be ordering more!

We have just had the most wonderful experience at our new favourite pub! Called in on the hop just to get a bite and check it out. Wonderful setting, interior and exterior absolutely beautiful. Staff were wonderful. Quick, really polite and attentive. Food-great selections available on menu. We had Caesar salad and the monkfish. It was first class. Really beautifully cooked and presented. Wine also very nice. Would have probably stayed longer but the annoying scousers complaining put us off! Not your fault the swan, we’ll be back!

Amazing food beautiful surroundings. Lovely little beer garden outside. Staff were great. Place has quite a bit of history too! Even pleased the mother-in-law! We WILL back **Update** The mother-in-law insisted we went again and I'm really glad we did. Both food and service were excellent. This will be our go to restaurant when we're in the area! (This place should be known further afield maybe it is and I'm a neanderthal.)

Awful food - over cooked fish but undercooked thick chips. Bizarre southern fried chicken - meat was mainly a chicken leg and odd flavouring. Shame about the food quality - especially for the price. Would not eat here again. Waitress was friendly and provided a good level of service.

The restaurant was an old primary school adapted tastefully to an excellent restaurant. We were a party of 12 visiting after a local Christmas walk. The first impression of our table was mixed, as the tables were not set out / laid out for a meal. It would have enhanced our visit if it was set out with cutlery and crackers etc. The meals were acceptable with everything on the plate. I had a chocolate and orange sweet (hot) with ice cream. By the time the cutlery had arrived - the ice cream had started to melt! Access around the table was somewhat hindered. On the whole, the meals were satisfactory - and everyone enjoyed the experience.

Went for dinner but found that there was a Wake going on at the pub. Reassured by bar staff that we weren’t in the way and it was business as usual. Ordered drinks and food at the bar before we realised that the wake attendees were getting more and more drunk; shouting, shrieking, banging the table, swearing and making everyone’s evening quite awful. We thought the manager, who was adding to the cacophony by regularly throwing wine bottles into a bin, would intervene, but it appeared his colleague was actually sitting with the loudest of the drunken mourners. The food arrived. Tepid, tasteless, expensive fish on a cold plate- Matching the temperature of the pub ( we kept our coats on) We ate and left as quickly as possible, never to return. I have told as many friends as I can to avoid this absolutely dreadful place.

Another outstanding meal at the Yew Tree Inn. Food was delicious, one of the best roasts I've had! Generous amout of beef, cooked to perfection. Lots of different and tasty veg and a great tasting gravy. The wait between meals was perfect, allowing enough time between courses to rest. The crumble topping wasnt your traditional topping but very tasty and it worked well with the pear but for me overpowered the rhubarb. The custard for the dessert was cold but that was the only criticism I had! We will definitely be back!! The staff were warm and friendly. The atmosphere was perfect for a Sunday lunch.

Great service from the team and a really lovely view out of the castle window whilst having breakfast. However, the food was awful. We had a full English breakfast and everything was just bland, the bacon was overcooked and the sausage was pitiful, the bread was also incredibly thin. It tasted as it if were made using super cheap products as opposed to the locally sourced farm referenced. We’re incredibly surprised and equally disappointed. In addition, as I hardly ate my breakfast I went to check out the pastries which were overcooked …… or burnt.
