Amazing food beautiful surroundings. Lovely little beer garden outside. Staff were great. Place has quite a bit of history too! Even pleased the mother-in-law! We WILL back **Update** The mother-in-law insisted we went again and I'm really glad we did. Both food and service were excellent. This will be our go to restaurant when we're in the area! (This place should be known further afield maybe it is and I'm a neanderthal.)

I have been dining here for years bringing visiting family and my own family. Came here for EOTHO. I had lamb curry- could be more spicy so as not to taste similar to a stew, though tasty. Chips were excellent. Mussels was very good too. Haven’t had the roast here for a while. The last time I had roast here it wasn’t as good as it used to be. Hopefully they return to their old serving. Not a fan of the roast piled up one on top of the other in a balancing act; So not much vegetable. I just like good old fashion roast not the modern effort.

Popped in for a couple if beers. My only comment/suggestion is that they need another non-alcoholic/low-alcohol beer other than Becks Blue. It's not great tasting and there are better alternatives now (i.e Heineken 0.0, Moretti zero, Budvar 0.0..).

4 of us visited for Sunday Lunch, lovely welcome on arrival, seated and offered drinks - after 20 minutes we still hadn’t received our drinks, went to the bar, they had forgotten to do them. Starters were the best part of the meal, no complaints there. However 3 of us had beef, we had to send a lot of it back as some of it raw, the rest all fat and gristle, complained the girl she apologised but that was it. We ordered cheesecake for desserts, literally a slice of cheesecake all portions had broken into pieces, on a plate, it was dry and unappealing, we asked for some cream to make it more edible, we got some cream and ice cream. No offer of a refund or to knock some money off the bill on payment, slow service, expensive and disappointing meal. Just moved down the road won’t be visiting again in a hurry which is hugely disappointing

My husband and I last visited in January 2018 and had a terrible meal experience. However, lightning can’t strike twice or can it? We decided to give this restaurant another try on Sunday. We arrived at 1540 and waited over half an hour for starters. My husbands pate was fabulous so worth the wait. My salt and pepper chicken strips were far too salty! Ah well.We waited and waited and waited but no main meal arrived. My husband had to chase them up with a member of staff who apologised for the delay. I was conscious that other people were also waiting a long time which was strange as the restaurant was not busy.I was quite cold sat at a very draughty table and put my coat and scarf back on.At around 1645 some very unappetising Roast Beef Dinners arrived. I had asked for no potatoes and had expected a few more vegetables in lieu. No such luck! The waitress carried the plates with cloths but the plates were not hot! The food went cold very quickly. My husband had cabbage on his plate but I had none. My husband was served two reasonably substantial pieces of beef but I had two tiny slivers. Portion size was tiny. There were a couple of miniature carrots, some scrapings of cauliflower and a few dots of broccoli on my plate. The Yorkshire pudding had been cremated with the worst burnt bits cut off. I ate what edible food there was as I was so hungry. Couldn’t quite manage the burnt Yorkshire pudding. It took just five minutes to eat the food. You would have struggled to fill a sandwich with the tiny amount of food offered. After we had finished, a waitress came to clear the plates and asked if we had enjoyed our meals. We let her know that we had not enjoyed the meals. The main meals were subsequently not charged for but the bill for two starters, two beers and one coke still came to over £20. I feel that I have still paid good money for a bad experience. We were given a £30 voucher to come back. Not a chance!

We were visiting the area the month prior and had such a fantastic time with wonderful personal service, fantastic food over a roaring fire . The only downfall was we were not sure if we were to be returning. This made me in particular feel quite sad as loved the whole experience. So when we found ourselves unexpectedly in the area again - for a sale. The obvious choice for our celebratory meal was to return to the cozy and delightful thatch Inn. One side of the bar area sits all the regular punters, who all seem very friendly and characters. The left side on entrance is the table service restaurant. We sat next to the fire place and drank black sheep and ate the pork which is the fattest piece of gammon type meat you will ever have. Delicious with proper chip, chips. I call it the pork challenge. Because its such a large helping. Which is never a bad thing. Tammy and I believe Jamie were wonderful hosts, always friendly and hospitable. Open for conversation. Such a warming place in more ways that one. The authentic fires, the history of the place and the welcome.. Thank you this is how it should be. Great food. Great service. Why isn't everywhere else like this??? See you again soon we hope. RHEA AND DAN XXXX WEST MIDLANDS

On the way home from Nantwich we called in late Saturday afternoon totally impromptu. Very welcoming friendly engaging staff. Very interesting menu. We both had the duck hash cake to start. Presentation was excellent and we both agreed tasted as good as it looked. I had the beef cheeks with JENGA chips a very apt description. Again excellenty presented and was delicious as was the main of salmon en croute ordered by my partner which she thoroughly enjoyed. I've previously had a very similar beef cheek main in a popular smart Chester restaurant and this dish rivalled the Chester restaurant dish and was £7 cheaper!!!!

Visited Yesterday last minute on our way home. The place is beautiful and kept in wonderful condition. Two of us ordered Sunday Lunch and the third just wanted a light meal. Staff were very helpful and welcoming and they seemed to have enough staff to cope well with the demand. The Sunday lunch menu was excellent and contained plenty of choice, I opted for the soup and Roast Beef and was not at all disspointed. The soup was the nicest soup I have ever had, piping hot, thick and full of flavour. Roast beef was lovely. The only point I would make is I didnt feel there was enough gravy for the amount food on the plate but that is just my opinion. All the other diners with me were equally satisfied and we would certainly recommend a visit. We will certainly be returning.

Evening meal with friends on a Friday. We had phoned beforehand about some dietary problems for one of our group. The staff were excellent at dealing with this. The chef came up with an alternative starter and the young man and woman looking after our table were well aware of this from the outset. Not a large menu - all the better for that in my view and we were all very pleased with our meals. There’s a good choice of draft beers as well. The pub was surprisingly quiet for a Friday evening which suited us very well, but for the sake of the business I hope this was a quiet week. Prices seemed very reasonable for what we had and drank.

What a little gem. Honestly from the moment we arrived from the moment we left the staff (Sam and her mum) could not have done more to make us welcome When we arrived we were offered 3 different rooms and allowed to chose It was made clear at the start what was happening with meals and the food was excellent and well worth more than we paid for it It’s a pub first so we were expecting some noise to filter from the pub below but despite an obviously happy works do on the Saturday night we heard nothing in the room above Already planning on staying again in the new year
