Stayed here for the night whilst doing some of the sandstone trail. We found it warm and friendly, food was great and breakfast was included which was also lovely. The rooms are a little dated and as the windows are old it was quite noisy in the room and there were cold drafts from the windows. Having said that the rooms were clean and had some lovely touches like toiletries and ear plugs. Also had a lovely big double bath which was nice. The staff were also attentive and friendly; I would definitely stay here again.

Nice quiet lunch at the Bickerton Poacher. Over 20 years since our last visit - lovely to return. We asked for a quiet table away from music or TV and were shown to a lovely dining area (the library) Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Good lunch menu. We were told that the Bickerton Poacher has recently come under new management - it's a lovely old place - beautiful building. Lots of seating choices, plenty of parking and in a beautiful part of the country. We wish them the very best of luck

We camped at the back of the pub for 7 nights, and can honestly say we had a fabulously stay. We drank and ate in the pub over the week. The food was amazing and the drinks flowed well. Sunday lunch was divine. Having recently been taken over by Sean (previously the Head Chef) and his wonderful partner Sam, things were a little slow at times as the staff were learning, but we could see the progress they were making throughout the week. An amazing location, with a wonderful management team and staff, be sure to give the Pub, Restaurant and the Campsite a go. We will definitely be going back.

I met a friend here for lunch. I hadn't been in here for many years despite passing it pretty regularly. It hadn't really changed inside but the food was very very good and it was busy for lunch on a mid week day. We both had sandwiches and fries but to be honest we had too much food as the sandwich portions were very generous, thick fillings and 6 sandwiches plus salad garnish.

Driving around trying to find somewhere to eat and came across the poachers. Sat in a pleasant outside area and we both ordered the cajun chicken, one of the less expensive items on the menu. The meal was one of the best I'd had in a pub for a long time. Excellent seasoned fries, lovely dressed salad and beautiful chicken. Definitely return, well done.

Bed was uncomfortable so didn’t sleep well and the bathroom extractor was one of the noisiest I’ve ever heard. Dinner was a let down, poor quality ingredients and chunky chips were undercooked and solid inside. ‘Market’ fish was tasteless and the steak & ale pie was like a casserole (including carrots) in a small dish with a pastry lid floating on top. Not our idea of a pie. Breakfast was good but I asked for my full English without tomato which didn’t happen. There were only two other tables to serve at the time so it’s not as though they were over run. The tomato was chopped/diced which itself was unusual so I couldn’t just lift it off the plate. The other ingredients were very good. We also ordered ‘dippy eggs’ as described on the menu from memory but both eggs were hard-boiled. So overall it was a very disappointing stay which is a shame as the bar/restaurant and outdoor areas are everything you would want in a country pub.

We went there for mother's day and a 60 th birthday all in 1 go, the food was very nice but they had said there was a free glass of prosecco for the mother's, mmm still waiting for that to arrive. The service provided was very poor, we had a young woman who started to clear our table and we asked for dessert menus at the same time, she cleared half the table, 20 minutes later we asked if someone could finish clearing the table and requested dessert menus again. There was 9 people for this gathering and the bill cost roughly £218.00. with very poor service I think it may be quite a ling time to revisit this place.

We have wanted to come here for a Sunday carvery for a very long time so today we thought we would give it a go. First time and probably the last. As nice as the food was ( apart from pudding ) we were highly let down by the service. All staff members were rude and looked like they didn’t want to be there. Gavin was the only server who actually had a conversation with us and made us feel welcome. We didn’t get a check back on any of our meals, had to ask for drinks, menus and the bill and every time it was all replied with attitude. I am a Waitress myself and I would never dream of giving service like that to my customers. I was really let down by this visit as we had really high expectations and were excited to try. Sorry but we will not be back and won’t be recommending it to friends or family.

That was our second time in this place for carvery, unfortunately my experience was unacceptable. We been sitted by the door, our table service wasn’t what we expected, the girl (Grace?) wasn’t interested of taking orders from us or even bring the bill when asked twice, but she had plenty time to be on the phone by computer and having chat with the lad who sitted us. Carvery was dry and cold! Definitely I don’t recommend this place.

Can honestly say that this Sunday's (18th Feb) lunch was the worst one that I have ever experienced. When arrived for 1pm the table wasn't set but the duty manger sais he would get it done - he didn't, after 30 mins), so we asked one of the waitreses and she got it done. ordered starters for the nine (9) family members and waited half an hour and then the first starter arrive, yes one starter, and this went on for 30 mins with starters being delivered one at a time. we were even told that the first starter wasn't actualy for us but was a special for someone with an allergy, so what did they get? Very worrying! In fact during this time tables and starters were being mixed up! main meal served OK, as this was the carvery, and we controlled that. It then came to deserts and coffee and the scenario was much the same as that for the starters. If you asked me to scorew this experience out of 10 it would be, guess, 0>

Had a meal with some friends on Saturday night. Staff were welcoming and friendly and in general it was alright. I opted for the southern fried chicken, there was nothing basically wrong with it; well cooked and a decent portion. However, it seriously lacked any...

Visited recently for Sunday carvery. Was told bar service only as short staffed. Didn’t recognise any of the staff, who historically have been excellent. Not anymore. Has management changed? Mixture of carvery and menu options were below par. But mostly staff attitude felt like they couldn’t...

Really really disappointed. We came in March and boy it’s gone down hill since! We pre booked but they hadn’t set a table for us… Tables were then pushed together which were different heights, really sticky and a sticky floor. It’s not clear that you...

Food has got expensive, on the website states paninis £7.75, when the actual price in the cafe is over £10. We had 2 paninis and a pot of tea, the bill came to over £27. We use the cafe on a regular basis, but will be giving it a miss from now.

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!
