I stumbled across Scran after recently moving to Wigton, and I'm honestly so glad I did! Not only did the cater brilliantly for my vegetarian girlfriend, but the food and service we got was brilliant from start to finish. Furthermore, the fact that they emphasise all the ingredients come from the local area makes it an even better experience. Ultimately, it means you get lovely food, while at the same time supporting local businesses!

We popped in for a warm up after having a walk nearby. Rude staff told us to take the kids shoes out of the cafe because they were spreading muck and now they would have to hoover. Can’t comment on the food as the service left a bad enough taste in our mouth and we took our business elsewhere!

An old village inn that has sadly seen better days. I’m giving it 2 stars purely because the owner was so friendly but the place itself felt dirty, stank of something that was akin to stale urine and was generally uncared for. A shame because it could be a nice place if some attention to detail was made. Not a chance I would go back until then.

Myself, partner and kids frequently visit and love this café, we go early as they get busy and sometimes runout of hot food. I've tried the home made quiche, soup, scones, cupcakes and thier cheesecakes I couldn't recommend enough. The ladies there are super friendly and are generally lovely. We are always made to welcome. Wether we come for coffee and a cake or a spot of lunch the cafe never disappoints!

Visited here at lunchtime looking for an all day breakfast and we weren’t disappointed. The full all day breakfast comes with tea or coffee and orange or apple juice. My other half didn’t want juice so they allowed us to have two teas and I had the other one as part of my breakfast that didn’t come with drinks included. The tea cam in mugs with the teabag in which allowed us control over the strength of the beverage. They also supplied a little China bowl to put the discarded tea bag in. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous. The food was cooked fresh and well presented. The cakes and scones on display looked delicious although we didn’t indulge. Maybe next time.

Having booked again for the roast Sunday lunch,( twice in December ), on both occasions we found the service and food to be first class. Often call in throughout the year when on our cycling rides from Keswick. Well worth a visit. Also, despite being dog lovers ourselves, the fact dogs are not allowed inside in an eating establishment is a major plus. Especially where hygiene is concerned.

After storm Eowyn in late January 2025, we were left without power for over 24 hours. I could hear water at home but my phone kept dying. I was told the barista cafe in Wigton was allowing people affected by the power cut to charge their phones. I called in and don’t like being in public places due to social anxiety but the staff were very friendly and accommodating to me when they knew I was affected by the power cut. The place was clean, warm, tidy and the staff were run off their feet but stayed chirpy and polite, nothing too much of a fuss. I was able to find a small quiet table where I could charge my phone and was given a really nice cup of tea. I like to give praise where it’s due and always have. I’ve lived in the area for years and never ventured into the barista cafe before but certainly will in the future. You realise who is worth your time and effort in the world these days and the barista cafe absolutely gets my vote and recommendations. Thank you barista cafe Wigton for being so welcoming, kind and helpful during this cold spell and storm season. ❤️
