The Watermill Restaurant in Allerdale

Most decent cup of tea I've had in a long while, from a cafe! Real tea leaves, in a pot - tasted wonderful. Also ordered a sandwich and was delighted by the size and taste - really delicious (tuna and cheese), packed with filling and a nice little salad with coleslaw and crisps too. Both ladies working there were very nice too (Friday 22nd Sept). Thank you ☺

After a very pleasant walk around Caldbeck, we went to the Watermill Café and had a lovely lunch sitting in the sun at the outside tables. Excellent service and a good price, very much recommended.

A beautiful location with so much potential, but the food really lets it down. Sat in the beautiful garden whilst the cricket match played on in the background. Took about 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order, and when we tried to order ourselves inside we were asked to wait at our table. We both ordered cakes and they really were the biggest disappointment. Pic attached is the ‘chocolate crunch’. The cake was tiny, and really greasy, not what you’d expect from a cafe like this. Had a fizzy elderflower and instead of getting the little bottles you generally are served with, it came pre poured in a sticky glass. It felt very expensive for what we got, even by Lake District standards. After finishing we went in to pay and the staff didn’t acknowledge us waiting at the till, and much of the space around the till area seemed to be used for storage of cardboard boxes? Such a shame - it really does have a lot of potential and would be a ‘must visit’ cafe if the food/drinks and service were improved.

We enjoyed a lunch of quiche and salad. The salad was amazing - not your usual salad offering. Lots of flavour! The weather was good so able to sit on the benches outdoors. The benches have seen better days but the food more than made up for that.

We enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent and the service professional. The vegetarian sausage meat pasty was one of the best veggie pasties I have eaten. Light pastry and tasty filling. The carrot cake was also delicious. They use loose tea leaves in their pots of tea which is makes the taste so much better. We will return.

Shared a sausage ciabatta and "tart of the day". Food is simple but plentiful and good quality. Tart was freshly made. Sausages were tasty and huge. Service quick and tea came in pots - always a good sign.

Family were over from Australia, we were joined by Family here in Uk too… in total 15 of us !! After a walk around the Howk we needed a drink … The Cafe owners were happy to accommodate all of us eve when they were Full to capacity!!!! Many thanks , Lorraine x

Came across this cafe whilst wandering around Calbeck. Staff welcoming, friendly and quick service. A little gem to find on a Monday morning.

Watermill café is a bit hard to find being located down a small lane just to the right of St Kentigern's Church in Caldbeck. It’s worth hunting out though because it provides a good selection of drink and meals at very reasonable prices- the (home made soup) is particularly good. The only slight negative is the outside café toilets that are very basic.

No welcome here. Jacket potato with tuna mayo 7.75. Very dear. Stsff disinterested and unhelpful.Entry door only half open. No assistance to get in. I'm Visually impaired using a white cane. Cafe is inaccessible to wheelchair users. Staff are rude. Toilets withoytoilet paper and in great need of a refurb / rebuild. Ladies taps hanging off and water everywhere. Avoid here. Too dear and they wouldn't help visitors with disabilities. Toilets dirty.

Can’t believe that I have visited the same place .......people have visited this cafe and left glowing reviews hence why I went. We called in at 12 noon today .... called to our table by an unsmiley lady , handed the menus and then she left us. We watched as this waitress cleared and cleaned other tables, walked into the back kitchen, came out again and just ignored us. After 10 minutes, we put on our coats and left; she still ignored us. No intention of spending any more time in this most unwelcoming establishment. A far more warm and friendly welcome awaited us at the the pub nearby.

What a delightful little cafe this is and in a beautiful setting. The food is excellent, the menu's clearly states what you are ordering and I think it is a fantastic idea to price the sandwiches etc with or without salad & crisps. Not everyone wants the extras so why waste the food when it is left. I had a cheese and chutney sandwich with salad & crisps and it was beautiful and very filling, well worth the cost. The chutney was so good we bought a couple of jars to take home. The coffee was also excellent. All the staff were lovely and I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone going to Caldbeck. We enjoyed it so much, we went twice

Just had the Cumberland Sausage Ciabttas for lunch. Lovely meal and really good value for money. Very varied menu and drinks range.

cant deny the lovely setting etc - but our visit today bears no resemblance to previous reviews. From the plastic covered menus to having to ask for 2 more sachets of brown sugar due to having only been given 2 - why are sugars now not back on tables? I had an oven baked |burnt) potato with cheese, served in a bowl, with no garnish due to not having ordered the salad (at an additional cost of £2) which would have made my potato with a sprinkling of cheese £7.95. I had a decaff coffee with soya milk which cost me an extra 20p ... my husband had the strangely described vegetarian sausagemeat pasty again with no garnish due to not ordering the extra salad..... surely salad should be included in the price structure ? He did however have a tiny bowl of watered down chutney (which again was at an extra cost). our regular coffees were served in tiny almost expresso cups the way the pricing of the sandwiches is presented is unusual giving you various options to pay for crisps, coleslaw or salad again are these options not usually included in the price? My thoughts are that this menu has been put together by an accountant needless to say the next time we are in Caldbeck we wlll go to the Oldfellows pub

We called here for lunch on a rainy February. The café is located in a converted mill complex with a couple of other craft shops. Parking is available outside or at a car park in the centre of the village. Despite the weather most tables...

We have been here many times, with our dog sitting outside or by ourselves inside. Yes the food is wholesome and the location great. BUT we went last week with our small Chihuahua on a day when the weather was really not good at all...

We stopped for a morning coffee, couldn't resist a toasted teacake as well and after buying a few preserves etc. as souvenirs , we spent the next +2 hours Christmas shopping in the adjoining craft shops. What a lovely village and everyone we met was...

Always a good place for some food. Portions are big and the Cumberland sausage special was fantastic. Staff are always friendly and welcoming

This cafe was a little hidden away and near two great little craft shops. Great service and really fresh food and a tea that you would be proud to make yourself. We had ciabattas with tuna, sausage sandwich and salad, really fresh and very nice.

Fabulous range of cakes and pastries and so good to have my favourite - Christmas pudding! - on the menu in July. Lovely friendly staff and proper leaf tea, as well as fab flavours of ice cream for our nine year old to choose from....

Perfect little place with fresh bacon /sausage and ciabatta. Shaded/sunny garden overlooking the cricket green. Heaven.

A trip to Caldbeck is not complete without a visit to this lovely little tearoom. From the friendly staff to the delicious food. I can highly recommend the cheese scone. Probably the nicest I've had. My friend had the fruit scone as was equally impressed....

The cafe it’s self is very beautiful with open beams. We were seated at a table which was quite sticky (I think more due to using chemicals on the wood rather than food or drink residue). We have a nice beans on toast breakfast and...

Superb light lunch for a cycle tour from Keswick. Between us we sampled the tarts, pies, salads ...plus cheesecake and tea ...all first class, reasonably priced and served by friendly staff in an idyllic setting. Much appreciated.

Got take away drinks One small scone a titchy piece of apricot slice...the drinks were in the smallest cardboard cup you could find.,:: Little change out of £10....this is just exploitation ...met a couple we knew with large hot drinks and cake from the village...

Lovely small cafe in an old mill. Friendly staff, great range of cakes, hot and cold food, teas and coffees. They also do curry nights and I think Sunday lunches. Just above a local craft shop and The Wool Clip, a wool crafters collective. Good range of jams, chutneys and cakes to buy. Always worth a visit.

We visited twice in one week. Once for breakfast rolls (they do an excellent Sunday breakfast too) and once for afternoon tea and cake - all home made and very delicious.

Me detengo aquí regularmente cuando paso después de días caminando en las montañas. Es un edificio antiguo y pintoresco que complementa muy bien este encantador pueblo. El té de hojas sueltas es realmente agradable y combina bien con los excelentes rollos de tocino después de una buena caminata. Tienen una buena selección de bandejas, sándwiches y cafés elegantes. El servicio siempre es excelente y amable.

We had visited many years ago so looked forward to a return visit. This cafe is expensive for the basic quality of food offered. One of the staff who was sitting on a seat in the restaurant on our arrival was asleep on a chair in the kitchen when we were leaving. Place could do with a re-vamp and good clean, we would not visit again based on this visit. Could be a little gem but in its current sadly not.

We visited on a rainy day and as soon as you walked in you knew you had made the right choice. Warm, friendly with great food.

It was mediocre to poor I would have to say. Cold daught blowing through. Kitchen looked a shambles and a little tatty I have to say.cakes looked a bit old and uninspiring. Tea was passable. It could be lovely but it’s grubby and lacks finesse. Wouldn’t return.

Hace años era un lugar acogedor con deliciosos pasteles caseros y otras comidas. El primer hipo fue tener que esperar inmediatamente dentro de la puerta para ordenar desde una pizarra detrás de ti. Log Jam pronto se desarrolla a medida que llegan otras personas. Servicio de mostrador solo aquí y pago por adelantado. La pequeña selección de tartas y tartas se veía atractiva pero opté por una papa con ensalada y queso.Encontré una mesa, no parecía haber sido limpiada. La patata de la chaqueta llegó en un tazón de cereal. Piel quemada y por dentro no tan caliente. Pequeña cantidad de queso. La ensalada estaba en un tazón pequeño. . . Sólo houmous y col. Bog standard básico sin presentación alguna. Lo siento, pero no voy a volver.

A pesar de la hermosa ubicación y el exterior (los edificios de los molinos convertidos), el café era solo promedio. La entrada era estrecha y se llenaba fácilmente con clientes que tenían que elegir entre un menú con sus espaldas al mostrador.

Had the chefs salads - mixture of different items for £7.50 - but not much taste - missing some seasoning. Coffee nice and hot.

Lovely atmosphere, staff very helpful and friendly. Charming environment, much of original building evident,gorgeous original floorboards. Food very tasty and fresh. Services good.Pleased we had pre booked as became very busy. Would recommend.

Been visiting this cafe fairly regularly for the last 12 years. Always fairly busy can book a table if you call ahead. Food is all home made and delicious. Quaint building with wood burner. My favourites include the soup, cheese scones, ham and cheese platter, quiche followed by the best sticky toffee pudding in the county in my opinion! Crumble also delicious. Have roast dinners, full cooked breakfasts available on certain Sundays throughout the year always delicious. Staff are lovely very friendly. Toilets are located in a separate building and are clean but cold. Think this is due to the old buildings.

We stopped here after visiting the Howk. A nice place and plenty of variety on the menu. It was very busy on an October weekend. No heating in the toilets outside, no official baby changing area. Food was enjoyed though.

Este es un café muy bonito. La ubicación es encantadora, escondida en una calle trasera con algunas tiendas grandes y astutas a través y por debajo (¡el clip de lana es genial!). El acceso es por una pendiente suave, pero esto probablemente sería difícil si se utiliza una silla de ruedas manual, especialmente en clima húmedo. Los baños también están en la pendiente opuesta a la entrada.

Paramos aquí para almorzar mientras andábamos en bicicleta, ¡y qué decisión resultó ser! La comida era excelente: mi rollo de tocino y salchichas era definitivamente su mejoría con algunos de los mejores que he tenido, y alrededor de la mesa había cero quejas, buena comida, porciones importantes, todo por un precio muy razonable. El servicio aquí también fue excelente, con un personal amable y comida entregada de manera eficiente. En la tienda también se ofrece una amplia selección de mermeladas, que recomiendo probar. En general, si te topas con Caldbeck y buscas algo de comida o bebida, te recomiendo que visites este lugar.

Lovely olde-worldy cafe with exposed beams and views of the river. Lots of menu choices; the tart was accompanied by a full plate of salads/sides, very filling and tasty. Toilets are public and not the best. Really cosy inside.

Situated alongside the river, with dippers and wagtails, it's up the steps by aa cluster of interesting shops. Good lunch and tea food; good choice of cakes and buns; prices about the same as in other tourist locations. A nice garden also alongside the river.

My wife & I call in here regularly after we have finished our walk in the Caldbeck/ Mungrisedale area. We always find the food is of excellent quality & freshly made, the staff are very pleasant & the prices are reasonable.

We just stopped in for tea at 3pm after a big lunch but they had all kinds of yummy looking sweet treats

We arrived just a few minutes before closing time after a long walk on the hills. We were delighted to be greeted by a friendly team of staff, who served tea and scones to us, despite already tidying up and had turned off the coffee machine. They did not rush us and the scones were excellent. It was a very interesting little cafe with lots on offer. We will definitely call again a little earlier next time.

This is a hidden gem in Caldbeck, three members of our party opted for the ‘sausage roll’ expecting a pastry creation, but really enjoyed two juicy Cumberland sausages in a bread roll! I went for the tuna sandwich which came on tasty brown bread with a side salad. Staff deserve a special mention for their friendliness! Another nice touch was the selection of Homemade Jams and chutneys available, printed with the logo of the cafe on the front. We enjoyed the apple and ginger chutney throughout our holiday. Overall we had a lovely time and a taste of Cumbria!

On our first visit a few weeks ago we opted for Baked potatoes with fillings, these were nothing special at all. On our second visit we ordered sandwiches with side salad - these arrived crammed onto such small plates it was very poor. At these prices something needs a rethink, that's my two strikes and out - I'm out!.

Walked around the Caldbeck area last Sunday - picturesque village without being "chocolate box" - before lunch at Watermill. My wife and I shared a ham and cheese platter, with an extra plate being brought without the need to ask for it. Extra bread was brought happily, and free of charge. Ate outside on a lovely day, but inside looked nice. Great meal, hit the spot, and the chutneys were so good that we bought some to take home, with rave reviews for the onion marmalade. Special mention for Jazz (Jasmine), who was really lovely.

Lovely cafe, with outdoor and indoor seating, don’t be put off it looked closed when we arrived but just push the door and you are in a delightful stonewalled cafe. All usual types of coffee, hot choc with cream delicious.

Tasty home baked cakes, tray bakes and scones, very pleasant surroundings - friendly staff. It was a lovely day out.

We visited as a group. The coffee was good and service was swift. The no frills atmosphere was laid back and good for walkers etc. Parking was handy too.

We sat outside with the friendly chickens after a long walk to refuel on tea and cake, gluten free also available,in the form of an unusual and tasty coconut flapjack.

Excellent soup, very tasty broccoli & cheese bake, great Cumberland sausage. Tea was slightly stewed. Superb lemon cheesecake to follow. We shall go again.

The local caldbeck tourism website says this place is dog friendly. It isn't. At all.

Stopped in after it hot a mention in a guide book. The carrot cake we both had was very good and the portions were generous. The location was nice but beware the chickens outside seem very interested in what you might have in a bag!

Popped in here for a coffee and some warmth on a cold wet day. We got the former but not too much of the latter as the log burner wasn't running!

The watermill café and restaurant serves all homemade food, they serve excellent vegetarian fare. Fantastic setting over looking the old watermill hence the name. Seating outside for the warmer days

Lovely cafe, lovely home made soup and samdwiches, quiche and a very good selection of salads etc, the only niggle is it's not to warn even in the summer, but this is probably as it's an old mill with very thick stone walls which make the carecture sweet, just have a Jumper

The three of us had the most amazing tomato and basil soup one with beautiful crusty wholemeal bread, one with a cheese scone and one with a ham and Cumberland sauce ciabatta. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would we return? You bet

food was nice and loved the hot chocolate waitress need to keep cleaning tables, and if someone says cutlery maybe get some for them and not point, more apart from that good

We visited on our way back from the Howk and it was threatening to rain. Dogs aren't allowed inside so we sat outside

We had no idea what to expect when the 6 of us arrived here. Didn't spend much time reviewing the menu and made our choices hurriedly. The Broccoli & Smoked Cheese Bake was very tasty, the salad that came with it was something different and equally enjoyable. But it was one of those places where you eyed other people's meals and could have had all of them! Would certainly look this place out again and would spend rather longer looking at the menu, highly recommend.

Wonderful location, cozy decor and style, the baked potatoes we had were fine, though the peel slightly burnt. A great place for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake though.

We came to see the Wool shop, plenty of other little enterprises here as well. In the churchyard opposite was the grave of John Peel, the famous Huntsman. Good service, we sat outside and could hre the stream and look over the cricket field. The variety of food was great, plenty of flavour. The Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream was worth squeezing in.

Called in for breakfast , friendly lady served us. Not long to wait, food was good although expensive for a bacon roll.

We visited the craft shops and had lunch in the Watermill Cafe. The choice was wide with plenty for vegetarians. The sandwiches came with a variety of salads and crisps and were excellent for the price. The cakes and other bakes looked lovely, but unfortunately we couldn't manage any more! I noticed gluten free choices too.

Aparecimos aquí dos veces durante o cerca de estancia. Una vez para tomar el té y café con un pedazo de su torta de zanahoria muy bueno y una vez para almorzar después de caminar de alta Pike. Ambas veces fue soleado y así pudimos sentarnos en una de las mesas que dan al sentamos campo de críquet village (las gallinas deambular y puedes aquí el arroyo). La comida es sencilla pero fresca, abundante y muy sabroso.

Paramos aquí para el almuerzo en nuestro camino a hacer un paseo de gran Sca se cayó. Llegamos justo antes de la 1pm y el lugar se llenó rápidamente después, tal es su popularidad. Había una buena variedad de platos calientes y fríos, incluyendo opciones para vegetarianos, y optamos por sabrosa tarta casera que venía con varias ensaladas diferentes (bastante grasientos) y ciabatta con abundante hummus - ambos eran excelentes. Hay un buen ambiente en este molino restaurado y así es, sin duda, en nuestro radar para repetir la próxima vez que estemos en la zona.

El Molino es uno de nuestros lugares para comer en Caldbeck; siempre se puede estar seguro de una luminosa bienvenida comidas sabrosas y una amplia selección de. Buena cafetera está siempre disponible con una gran selección de pasteles caseros y postres y el menú del almuerzo es muy variado. Hay sillas afuera y de la frecuencia se puede observar los bancos de cricket se tocan en el terreno de pueblo.

Yo era el ciclismo y paramos para tomar un bocado rápido y una cerveza. Había una señal clara a la cafetería de la calle y lo encontré fácilmente. Había un montón de opciones, pero me decidí por té y de pollo y chili mayo en una ciabatta. Las hojas de té té y sabía muy bien. Era un colador. La ciabatta tenía una pieza de pollo y el meollo de mayo fue encantador. La ciabatta era calentado. En general, una escapada muy buena. El personal era amable y servicial.

Es una orden" en la barra de experiencia, pero no dejes que esto te desanime, el lugar vale la pena la visita. Establecido por el Río Caldew y anidada bajo un dosel, es un lugar idílico. A pie desde aquí a la iglesia con la Tumba de John Peel y la de amplio la belleza de María, calle de Kentigern Buttermere. Bien está cerca. Una cantidad limitada de aparcamiento, pero no lejos de la calle principal.

Después de una gran visita al molino el año pasado, volvimos de nuevo la semana pasada, ya que estábamos en la zona para un paseo hasta Bowscale cayó. Está bien fuera de lo convencional, pero definitivamente vale la pena buscarlo, ya que es un fantástico café poco en una hermosa ubicación.

Mi esposa y yo llamar aquí regularmente cuando el senderismo en la zona de caldbeck. Hicimos una comida de domingo en Año Nuevo día, el almuerzo era carne asada y todos los detalles. La comida estaba bien preparada y la carne era de excelente calidad, el problema principal era que los platos estaban fríos, así aparecerá la comida estaba fría muy rápidamente. Los dulces eran de calidad media. Este es un molino antiguo precioso y muy peculiar. Cuando nos llame después de un paseo que normalmente tenemos sopa o bacon y rollitos de salchicha y estas son siempre encantadoras y caliente y sabrosa.

Popped in on a cold winters day. It was quite busy. Good service, good cakes and the tea and coffee were were hot and enjoyable. Good view over the river from the table at the far end

Estado viniendo aquí desde que puedo recordar con mi familia. Encantadora acogedora cafetería, muy rústico y bonito. Grandes porciones de comida recién hecha. Servicio excelente y amable. Un montón de opciones vegetarianas y la sopa siempre es increíble. Preciosas vistas de la beck y las colinas de los alrededores.

Aunque un gran menú de deliciosos, nos quedamos con el café de la tarde y bollos y fueron los mejores, los bollos suaves que he tenido en mucho tiempo.

Whether walking in the area or driving through, the priest's Mill is well worth a stop for the two small shops and this excellent cafe serving lovely home made cakes pastries and sandwiches and much more. Lovely.

We popped in for a cafe stop whilst cycling, perfect location for a break and surrounded by nought but scenery. The prices were a little higher than expected but everything was to a high standard. Lovely quiche washed down with tea and tasty carrot cake!

Una visita a nuestra era en Caldbeck lista en un reciente viaje a Cumbria y no nos decepcionó: es un hermoso lugar y nos detuvimos para tomar café en el Café Molino que está en un precioso edificio antiguo situado al lado de una tienda de artesanías. Los refrescos son de un nivel muy alto de la porción de la fecha es preciosa, y menús para cenas temáticas e incluso Navidad, están disponibles y aspecto muy tentador, la verdad.

Caldbeck es un agradable pueblo del viejo mundo.

It's tucked away, but well worth discovering. The service and food were first class, and it's in a lovely spot in the Watermill building, between the church and the cricket field. The homemade quiche was particularly good.

Nice tea, nice people, nice location and a cosy atmosphere. I've stopped here a few times and have always been treated to excellent tea and cake.

Jueves visita almuerzo a finales de mayo después de una caminata en el bosque Graystoke con nuestro perro. La buena y correcta y ensalada quiche de tomate y albahaca sopa con pan hecho. Fui ayer y era medianamente ocupado, pero hay un montón de lugares para sentarse. Su oscura y pintoresco, con una buena variedad de comida (pero prefiero que hace años y años cuando era vegetariano!). Los precios promedio para la zona, pero un lugar encantador para sentarse y comer bollos!
