Shuhag Restaurant in Allerdale

Meals are lovely prices are goo customersjust don't seem to understand social distancing while waiting in here

Found a dead FLY and hairs in our food, when returned to complain were offered no help by staff. We’re were not offered a refund or any other compensation for this VILE experience. Would not recommend going here as the hygiene is clearly very low and staff were not helpful. Have attached the images below to discourage people going through this. Wouldn’t even rate a 1.

Takeaway was fantastic. Fasu and his team are on the ball. Chicken tikka and jalfrezi sauce was perfect, flavour, heat and plenty to eat. Well worth a try. Ask for the PeshawarI naan or any side dish, cauliflower bhaji is brilliant. Thanks all..... Back soon.

We were camping in the area and wanted a meal out on our last night and this restaurant didn’t disappoint. One of the best curries we’ve all had. We had a range of starters and main dishes including lamb (which was melt in the mouth), chicken and prawns which were all cooked to perfection. Our waiter wore a mask at all times and tables/seating was well spaced. Would absolutely recommend!

Had yet another incredible meal. You really couldn't find a better Indian restaurant! The food and service were top class.

Had a takeaway last night(first time) Having Ceoliac I was asked to tell them what I wanted then told if I could eat it.It was absolutely delicious 😋 Brilliant service as well,definitely go back 👍

Book table for 4 people I had tandoori king prown . And special tawa main course onion rice keema nan. Excellent food and service thank you back again.

Given the wrong takeaway and too far away to go back by the time I opened it. Called them and was "allowed" to keep it as it was a bigger order than mine - two mains and rice versus my starter, main and rice - thank you so much! Ate the Chicken Tikka Masala as a starter as it only contained 8 small pieces of chicken in a sea of bright red sauce. Butter Chicken slightly better. As with all hospitality businesses I wish you well but when you make mistakes you have to try a bit harder with the customer services, or people won't come back.

My first restaurant meal since covid, and really enjoyable. Food was just as good as previous reviews said, and with a very wide selection. Staff friendly and attentive. Felt covid safe without being "in your face" about it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Indian food.

I searched Trip Advisor for a local Indian restaurant near our lodge in Keswick and I found Shuhag. The food here is incredible, the staff are all so friendly and very attentive. One staff member stood out who I presume was the owner.Now if only I could have picked the whole restaurant up and brought it to my home town in Eat Yorkshire so I could go again - I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.We Loved it!

I have been to this restaurant a few times now as a couple, with friends and with family. I’m glad to say I’ve finally found a decent curry at last. After growing up in Leeds I have found it hard to find a decent curry since moving to Cumbria. The owner is so lovely, he always makes a point to come out and talk to us, ask how we are and nearly always offers us a free shot as a thank us for our repeat custom. The portion sizes are very good and you will certainly not go hungry. The food is very reasonably priced for the portion size. Drinks are available but are more expensive than the local pubs. The only thing is, the last time we visited our coats and clothes smelled of the frying of curries for a week after. Other than that it’s a great place and defiantly worth a try/ visit. We will be back as soon as we can visit. Thanks guys and keep up the good job!

We decided after weeks of shut down to get a curry take away. Very average curry so a bit of a disappointment. However, the worst thing was the lack of preparation for social distancing. No delivery service, couldn’t pay before I got there and just collect or loaded into the boot. When I got there I hoped to just collect and get out of there as quick as possible so went 15 mins late. Arrived and 5 people waiting and one person paying while the girl leaned over him from across the counter - I wonder how many people she’d done that with recently!! I shouted from the door was it ready and it wasn’t went back to my car and waited outside. A further 15 mins later a lady came out who sympathised with me and asked if she could put it in the boot but I needed to pay for it. So, went back into pay and the girl leaned on the counter while I attempted to use the machine - I asked her to socially distance and she smirked and raised eyes past me she finally stepped back - I’d be lucky if it was 2m. I live with vulnerable people - maybe every other customer does. They need to realise this is serious and get their hygiene and standards sorted at this difficult time. I won’t be back if ever, just a general lack of care.

We use this for meals and takeaways, however with the virus lock down we have been forced to just have takeaways.The food is excellent quality, Mr Mia and his team are really really friendly and will do their bet to get the meal ready for you on time.Food is excellent, highly recommend everyone should try this place.

Took the grandkids for curry during recent visit to babysit. Great food.Very good service from friendly pleasant staff. Would definitely recommend and will go again.

Gorgeous food with lovely staff so kind, I had chicken tikka and it was the best I’ve ever had!! I 100% recommend this Indian for take away and sitting in. They make u feel very welcome.

Called in for a meal in-between husbands shifts at work. As always wonderful friendly staff who genuinely care that you have an excellent dining experience. The food is fantastic, portion size is easily enough for even a hearty appetite. I always go in hungry and still struggle to finish. Atmosphere is great, relaxed and friendly.

Was looking for a reasonable takeaway to feed a group of 8 and stumbled across The Shuhag. We ordered a variety of dishes including makhani, tikka masala and cafreal none of which disappointed. Others had the chicken or lamb tikka mains and created their own kebabs. Lovely food and timely service

Absolutley love this Resturant , food is fabulous always incredibly tasty , hot and well priced . The staff are so pleasant and will acomadate your tastes , they really cant do enough . As a chef this is my go to place on my day off so thank you !!

Called in with a friend for a Wednesday night supper. Service was attentive but not overbearing, checked with us when we wanted our main course, and cleared around us as we went, in an unobtrusive way. Food was first rate indian restaurant fare. I had my favourite chicken tikka rogan josh. It was really well done, the sauce and ingredients very, very good, and I usually test out an indian restaurant I haven't been to before with exactly this dish. I'll be going back for some more.

I've reviewed this restaurant before on at least one occasion, but I felt as though it was time to write an updated, and slightly more generous review!

We ordered a takeaway meal for 6 people on Saturday at 6pm. Collected it at 7, and all 6 of us enjoyed superb food. Everything exactly as requested. Magnificently tasty. Couldn't recommend more highly. Can't wait to do this again. By a long way the best takeaway in the area.

It has taken me nearly 3 years to find a descent curry house up north. We didn’t book a table but we were seated no problem. The chef came out to greet us and remembered us from our previous visit. The waiters are efficient and attentive. However, a smile goes a long way.

A nice small Indian restaurant. With a Nice small authentic menu. Very friendly and warm welcoming from staff. Food was lovely unusual dishes nothing too much trouble and they adapted some of the dishes for us. I have got to say this place and food is lovely.

The restaurant was quiet and staff were low key until the order arrived, but friendly enough. Meal was delicious, as recommended by waiter. Decor needs updating, but a good time was had.

Visited on a Friday evening with friends. The food was simply exquisite, the atmosphere was friendly, the waiters were friendly while not overbearing. The wait for food was not at all long.

Called in for a take-away. The staff are friendly and polite. On this occasion, I would rate the food as average.

Had a lovely meal at Shuhag last week. Good advice given as to what combinations to have and no attempt made to up sell or to hurry us out as we chatted for ages after we'd finished our meal. The Nepalese special was delicious; quite hot but not overpowering.

Early evening visit, quiet with diners but looked like a busy night for take away.

Quiet dinner with my wife. Nice. She went old school ( chicken tikka korma). I went off the menu ( channa saag balti). Chef (Mr Miah) was happy to oblige. Come and try it. You will not be disappointed. It is fabulous.

ok i went back in end march 2019 this food is hand made for you not microwaved so lets get that bit out of the way -the food does take time here ok so be patient , i had the king prawns again for main and still the finest largest king prawns iv ever had . i had the lamb tikka starter the lamb was lovely tender etc 10/10 --- in truth were does this quality stand in cumberland = right at the top no one does king prawn tandoori masala in this class in an indian restaurant in the Lakes or carlisle -they are also very friendly here and polite and the place has a nice buzz when a few people in i was sat with the fair ground family from wigton had a lovely chat nice nite - SO BE PATIENT IF YOU LIKE GREAT INDIAN FOOD ok guys symon brown x

Had a lovely birthday meal tonight in Shuhag 14 of us all enjoyed our food, will be back soon, even our little great granddaughters enjoyed what they had,

I have had many take away from here over the years and they have always been good. I visited last night with a friend for a sit down meal. Service was excellent, efficient but not pushy, not rushed just right. We had a starter and main course and all of the food was well cooked and delicious. We had two different dishes and shared them and both were excellent. We had a peshwari nan and I have to say it was probably one of the best I have ever had. Light fluffy and plenty of coconut. We washed it down with a nice bottle of Malbec which was well priced for restaurant and very tasty.

Although very full on a Saturday evening, service was good and staff friendly. We had quite a wait for fmains but, when they arrived, the standard was very good

I dont normally leave reviews but i have to with last nights meal. I have never had a worse indian meal in my life. The lime pickle had a pot of salt in it and the meal, well the onions were cubed and uncooked and the tikka chicken was diced into little pieces. the meal was described as red and yellow peppers there was not one in sight. my meal. Never again. Althought we did get offered a free drink after the meal which we refused.

The chicken Madras is excellent. When you're in Wigton and hungry, try Shuhag....you will not be disappointed!

Having visited this place since it opened, we have seen it go from strength to strength. The staff are very friendly andhelpful. The food is 1st class and the chefs will make anything you need... Fantastic eating.... Thank you Mr Mia and team.....

High quality cooking and ingredients and every dish really individual. Great for vegetarians. Absolutely the best Indian/Bangladesh food for miles in this culinary desert outside the lakes. You are missing out if you haven’t tried Shuhag go and experience this culinary delight.

As a curry addict for 35 years I've sampled balti in Birmingham's Balti Belt,. biryani on Manchester's Curry Mile, I've been lucky enough to eat local in India and Nepal in short I have eaten curries a lot and over many years. Thus may I heartily recommend the food from the Shuhag in Wigton. Consistently good food served by well mannered and knowledgeable staff from a clean, well run kitchen, (I got the tour). Wigton and surrounds has only one Asian restaurant/take away lucky for them that it is the Shuhag!

This restaurant and take away is handy for Wigton, however has been through several changes of owners and names over the years, and as such has had its ups and downs.

We often visit the Shuhag restaurant, be it for a sit-down meal or a take-away. The staff are very pleasant, service is fast and the food is very good. Would recommend to anyone.

We visited Shuhag on 12 August 2018. We are local but haven't eaten here since it was taken over. However, to say we were impressed is an understatement. The menu has some original and interesting dishes as well as the usual suspects.

Ordered a takeaway on Sunday night from here and it was lovely. I can’t recommend the afghani special enough, a bit more flavour to a standard hot curry like a madras or vindaloo. Delicious chicken chat starter, naan breads and rice were cooked perfectly too. All food was hot and fresh. Will definitely call again for some curry

Stumbled across this Indian restaurant at the weekend with my partner.. food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.. nicest Indian I have ever eaten.. Shame it’s so far away from where we live or we would be ordering very often.

Really tasty variety of menu choices, with a few different selections compared to your average curry restaurant. Great service, staff always friendly. Food is flavoursome and the heat just right with a good range of spice options. Highly recommended.

An unassuming restaurant in a town i've never heard of but the flavours of the food were very good, mega tasty without being overpowering and the right amount of spice, Would highly recommend.

Eat here every month, not just good food “for Wigton”, but good food for anywhere. For me, one of the best Indian restaurants around, everything is fresh, and different, you can taste the fact it’s all cooked to order. The setting is small, but very friendly, the chef not only makes amazing food but also likes to warmly welcome his guests if he’s not too busy. Looking for somewhere to eat? Enjoy flavoursome fresh cooked food? Look no further!!!

The staff are so accommodating and helpful and advised us about which meals could be made vegan.

after a busy visit last time we came back tonight for a quiet meal. food was excellent and service was good too well worth a try will definitely be coming back

Visited with friends on 31st March. Food was excellent and great value. A couple of points tho, firstly, ran out of cobra which caused a few issues with another table, secondly the waitress was busy arguing with another member of staff and did not look very happy. Heated discussions were audible to diners and did not provide a good atmosphere for dining. Mid way through our meal a couple of lads came in demanding to see the manager. It then looked looked like a heated discussion between the two parties followed by the lads leaving telling all and sundry that the kitchen is mingin. Got the impression that money was involved. Both the waitress and the incident with the lads made the atmosphere in the Shuhag quite intimidating and whilst I thought the food was great I will not be rushing back

We booked a meal for 7.30 but when we arrived our table was just being cleared. As the restaurant was full, with people also waiting for takeout., we decided to give them time to clear the table, so we went over the road for a quick drink. We arrived back 20mins later and table was ready. It had obviously been a very busy couple of hours and take out was still being delivered, but we just weren’t dealt with very quickly. The girl behind the desk eventually came over with the menus and practically threw them at us. The waiter offered poppadoms etc and then came back to take our drinks order, by this point we had been in nearly an hour! Can’t understand what the girl behind the bar is there for other than answering the phone, cause she never got off her seat. The food is really good, when you eventually get it, and we all enjoyed our meal. I think next time we will order takeout as I think it is the quickest option.

I went last night with my family. It wasn’t particularly busy yet the chef managed to cook me a chicken Pili Pili despite me asking for lamb.

Shuhag is new to Wigton after taking over from a not very good curry house that was there before. I am a curry addict and always looking for a good curry restaurant which I have found at Shuhag, the food really is good and they care that you have enjoyed the experience. I highly recommend chefs special

We went on 20 January. We were a large party. The food is superb, all served by staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. You have to try it for yourself. Go for the Chefs recommendations.

Nice food and excellent staffs. Best Indian food in Cumbria I have ever had. Award winning Chef Mr. Parsu Miah who can cook any kind of Indian subcontinental Curry as you want. 😍😍😍😍😍
