Maryport Tandoori in Allerdale

Fantastic restaurant - we always eat here when we come to Maryport. Everything tastes fresh and zingy, as Indian food should. The staff are also friendly and helpful. The best!!!

It was friend birthday 🎂 party of five we get to gather from Maryport Workington and Whitehaven it was a great time together we all enjoyed the delicious food with fantastic service we will go back to Maryport Tandoori on our Christmas party next month (Good Food)🍲

Had a takeaway Sag Ghost with garlic nan. Sauce was medium heat and rich. Lamb was lean and tender. I really enjoyed my food. Thank you

Food was lovely but very heavy on the salt which made it a challenge to eat.

The food here was pretty nice, poppadoms were a bit stale and the chilli/ spicy ones are not worth it. Vegetable section is clearly marked but some of the vegetables in the curries don't all go very well (green beans etc.) and there are no paneer dishes. Our server was blunt and disinterested in us but the owner was very welcoming and friendly.

Over priced and very much over rated and not cheap for what you get. Over priced beer also Smell of cigarette smoke also Food was bland and luke warm and under seasoned There is much better places to spend money Will give this place a miss

Our group of eight all had an excellent meal. The staff are lovely and accommodating (our train was cancelled so we let them know we'd be late, they were very understanding). Food was gorgeous and great portion size to three of us got pots to take out leftovers home, too good to leave! Once you've been, it's easy to see why they've won so many awards. Will be back soon.

We were here 10 years ago. Service and food are still good!! The staff is courteous, hospitable and guest-oriented. The selection of dishes is great. And the food was delicious.

We had a takeaway Friday 6/9/2024 as we're unable to sit in as originally manned. This was our first visit. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Even gave me a pair of reading glasses for the menu as I had forgotten mine. The food was excellent and was still piping hot when we got home as we live a good 15 miles outside of Maryport. Would highly recommend

Very very tasty food and Great service at Maryport tandoori try the new dish Garlic chicken tikka chilli mossala one of the great dish on the Menu. you wont be dissapointed Great host.

Probably one of, if not the finest curries I’ve ever had, simply sensational Indian food. Faultless and super friendly staff/owners and superb value. Any fan of fine Indian cuisine should make a special trip to Maryport, you will NOT be disappointed!

We really wanted to enjoy Maryport Tandoori, but ultimately came away disappointed. For context we often dine at Indian restaurants in and around Manchester so were expecting to see great things, especially given their recent award. As a break down of the food: Poppadoms were warm and crisp, however the pickles and chutney were underwhelming and would have benefited by including a raita and sauce with the raw onion. Chicken Tikka starter was cooked well and tasted good, but again there's no need to hide it under half a chopped onion, this does nothing for the presentation of the food. Lamb madras was really nice and had great flavour and good amount of meat, this was the stand out dish. Vegetable biryani. This was sadly a significant let down. The sauce was watery and forgettable, the biryani was bland, lacked any real effort and had potatoes that tasted as though the chef left the intended seasoning on them. This was a poor dish and at the price point unacceptable. On a wider note the restaurant would also benefit from either having a children's menu (when asked we were told they don't) or being amicable to providing smaller portions (which wasn't offered). Necessitating the purchase of a full priced meal for a child in a money only restaurant is frustrating and questionable. Overall was the meal bad, absolutely not, but neither was it great or perhaps more importantly particularly enjoyable. For just shy of £50 on the above (without drinks) the standard has to be consistent in all meals prepared. In absense of such we really couldn't recommend.

Sorry to put a downer on the place but we booked and ate with another couple recently. We eat Indian food quite often so I can say this place is nothing to get excited about. The sauces on our different meals were quite thick and all tasted very similar ( as though they came from a jar! ) How it gets awards I have no idea. We have 3 Indian restaurants in our home town and all of them are a either better or vastly better than this one. I guess it's down to the lack of competition but if I lived locally, I'd rather get a takeaway from elsewhere. It's also a little pricey.

Went to Maryport Tandoori last night with some friends the restaurant was extremely busy the food was amazing and the service was 10/10 well done Maryport Tandoori we will be back 👍👍

First visit and very impressed with the warm, friendly welcome. Food and service were great and reasonably price. We had a most enjoyable evening.

This was my first visit and the food was exceptional, fresh and deliciously authentic Tandori flavours. I have eaten South Asian food up and down the country and this is honestly one of the best - I had a Chicken Dansak curry with pliau rice and a beautifully soft Kulcha Naan on the side. The service was so accommodating and friendly and it was well worth the short drive from the Lake District to visit this hidden gem. On-street parking is available nearby and the restaurant is cash only. There is also a decent range of alcohol and soft drinks served, all reasonably priced.

Onion bhaji delicious. Service outstanding, Great for evening walk after dinner to catch the sunset, hard to find a more breathtaking view anywhere in Cumbria

Tried this takeaway for the first time as I’ve heard good things about it. I must say I did not enjoy it at all…For almost £40 the chicken bhuna was extremely bland and had no flavour, the chips were so overcooked that the potato had been cooked right of of them…The pilau rice was undercooked and bland and the garlic nan was sloppy and undercooked…The only thing that had flavour were the samosas. Really disappointing especially for the price

I go out with friends for a meal in Maryport tandoori on Friday night the restaurant was extremely busy and food piping hot and delicious and it was first class service 10 out of 10 no doubt we will definitely 👍 return 👍🧆🥗

Ordered a takeaway. Asked them to put a couple of green chillies in the garlic lamb, the rest of the order was straight off the menu. Paid cash (no cards taken) and went back to the pub while waiting. I started to think that what I paid was a bit much and checked the takeaway menu, to find I’d paid £4 more than what the menu said. Queried this when I picked up the order and was told I’d ordered a ‘chef’s special ‘ hence the extra charge! The food was fine, but having paid £4 for a couple of chillies kind of left a bad taste.

Called in at this little gem. Monday night, so quiet but a few take aways going out. Extensive Menu with plenty of choice. Informative staff with recommendations. Chose the Chicken Naga and Lamb Kharai. Both excellent and full of flavour with vegetable rice and Keema Nan. Would highly recommend this Curry House (and I've been to the best in the last 50 years all over the Country) Less than £50 with a couple of drinks Andrew the Printer

The food and service was great just think the food could be presented a little better, there was four of us eating and very little room on the table after everything served....

8 of us inc young kids went last night to celebrate a birthday and the service, despite being busy was excellent. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The staff very accommodating and happy and chatty. Would definitely recommend:)

Family visited for Easter holiday weekend And I take them to a indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in maryport To treat them in a Award winning restaurant they said that it was a best Indian food they ever had it was a best service and compliment to the chef and to the owner of the restaurant 😋 👌 😀

Sorry....not impressed. Meat was fine but the sauce was just like slop... little substance or any distinct taste.....

First visit to maryport Tandoori booked a table for 6 pm, arrived at 5.45, and made very welcome. Ordered drinks and was shown to our table. Can't fault the service very polite and courteous. The meal was excellent, the best chicken korma I've had in a long time. The only let down was there, Peshwari Nan. Honestly, I have had better with more ingredients added.

What a fabulous place, this is our second visit with family. The welcome was warm and friendly, we were made to feel really special by Ali and his dedicated team you are all amazing. The restaurant has a lovely ambience it is beautifully clean and comfortable. The food is the nicest Indian food I've had since being back in West Cumbria . Everything was lovely and fresh and tasted like it was meant to, the vegetarian options were fantastic, we can't wait to go again soon and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Very poor. Wanted to visit the restaurant due to the apparent nominations this restaurant has received and on recommendation of a friend. Had to wait 1 hr 30 mins for table and then packed into a small table elbow to elbow with other customers. Pickle tray was dreadful. Raw cut up onions and a watery mango sauce. Veg Samosa tasted store bought and lacked any flavour. Ordered two mains off the chef signature dishes, not good. Both had far too much oil and lacked any flavour. The rice was the only thing authentic we ate. I’ve never developed stomach ache while eating the meal. I regret paying for it without voicing my concerns but felt so ill I just wanted to leave.

It was Saturday night 13th of January we went to Maryport tandoori for a meal the restaurant was extremely busy inside and takeaway sides it was a little wait to be honest the food was amazing best curry we ever had we travel all over the country and this was one of the best 😍 the table was next to our table they put a nonsense review I wouldn’t do that when the dishes was empty plates were wiped if your expect free meal just ask we sit on table no 7 and they sit on table 8 me and my partner saw every thing what they planned Maryport tandoori is awarded few times they won the biggest award in the country and nominated again best restaurant of the year 2024 good luck to the owner man he is very friendly to all his customers my request please don’t put negative reviews when enjoying your food we have seen it thank you all 🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣

We staying over a caravan park and were on the look out for some delicious food after a long 300+ miles of journey. Found this one pretty close to our place so without a second thought we rushed as it was already 9pm and most of the restaurants were closed or about to. We got a warm welcome, they even told Kitchen closes 9:45 but we would wait till you enjoy your meal which is so kind of them. We ordered some tandoori king prawns, tandoori chicken and hara bhara kebab. Tabdoori’s were so delicious but not too much happy with hara bhara kebab as to me it was like omelette(never seen this before). For the mains we did some kulcha naan, garlic naan, chef’s special shylet chicken and chicken mosala and bhindi masala,they were all soo good specially the shylet chicken given with boiled egg. I would definitely recommend to someone at Maryport or near maryport and do try there kulcha naan that was awesome and for four people it was just £96 which I say it is cheap.

Visited on a bank holiday Monday whilst on holiday in the Lake District and the food was superb, service was great and I would highly recommend it

On arriving without a booking, at 17.30 with a party of 6! we were welcomed even though they were fully booked from 7pm the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious the spice wasn't overpowering from the sauce the chilli's just added to the flavour of the dish, I would definitely recommend thank you.

We had such great time on children school holidays. The service was incredible with delicious 4-course dinner. We particularly enjoyed the Maryport Tandoori special curry and more specifically the Sag ghost curry. There was a very familiar face in Maryport Mr Ali with great service....

The best Indian restaurant in Cumbrian and perhaps the UK. Service was excellent from the moment we walked in until we left. I am disabled and use a walking stick, so hubby drove the car up to the door. A lovely member of staff went and opened the car door for me. Little touches like that make you want to go back. And now the food...wow and another wow. Plentiful and absolutely delicious. Staff checked that everything was OK a couple of times. There were four of us and we all agreed that the food was brilliant and that we'd definitely be returning. Thank you.

Incredibly disappointing. Please be aware it is cash only. We were on holiday for a special occasion and looking for somewhere to eat out for a milestone birthday. We spotted this tandoori whilst out on our first day and noticed they were closed for a few days due to award nominations. Reviewing them online, fab reviews, award winning in the past. We never had a bad experience at an Indian restaurant so it seemed a sure bet for a good night. How wrong we were and we really paid for it too!!! Our booking was a Wednesday evening at 7pm for 7 people. The restaurant is crammed in, our table was right behind the door where take away collectors congregated and little room to the window tables, making it difficult for servers to get past. A table of 6 were seated next to us but it was so close we may as well have been dining together. Service for taking order and receiving drinks was quick but getting the food was incredibly slow, 40 minutes for starters. It was all very fraught and stressy amongst the staff. We asked for a jug of water for the table 3 times but didn't get it so in the end i ordered a £2.50 still water expecting it to be a large bottle but it was a small highland spring. It was poured into a glass with ice, which we didn't want, on stating this a fresh glass was fetched and the water poured from one to another. The cobra beer was flat, the drink wasn't finished and bottle beer ordered instead. As for the food. Popadoms were a bit soft, tasting a bit stale really. Everyone was happy with starters, I didn't have one as at point of ordering was not hungry (after such a wait i dipped in to my sons prawn puri which was nice). I had one of the specialty mains which was incredibly salty and most oily dish i ever had. The saag mains were very dry. Jalfrezi had red peppers, no chillis and was wetter than we have had before. Only one in the party enjoyed the meal. The after eights given with the bill had white marks on the chocolate so either out of date or had been in hot environment. 4 of the party were very ill the next day with food poisoning (sickness, diarrhoea and sweats). Not the end to the holiday we wanted. If we were local, we definitely would not recommend or attend again.

The staff and food were amazing and the food came so quick the only minor inconvenience was that they forgot s naan bread but they got it out so quickly and it was very warm

Tandoori is an excellent place for a meal. Whether you like it hot or mild , staff are always pleased to advise and go above and beyond to make you visit a pleasant one.

I was on holiday camping and I thought I’d give this place a try and order a takeaway. In my experience Indian Restaurants in tourist areas are not that good and takeaways never seem as nice than when eating in. I ordered a Naan, madras’s, rice and onion bhajis. They were all spot on in terms of flavours and by far one of the best meals I’ve had. The curry could have done with less oil apart from that everything tasted fresh. The Service was seamless from taking the order, having it ready as scheduled and being welcomed into a lovely warm atmosphere. Thank you again

Absolutely disgusting,got our order wrong twice , they blamed it on the young girl who was working there , she didn’t take our order so it was hardly her fault , my husband got tandoori mixed grill ( which it wasn’t ) when we sed it’s not tandoori the waiter oh yes we know sorry ,,,,, it was dry as a bone I had chicken korma which was so sweet I cudnt eat it I will never eat here again it’s not worth 1 star

We were visiting the area and after reading all the reviews, and paying over £30 for 2 curry's 2 rice's and 1 naan, we were looking forward to a fantastic takeaway. The rice and naan were very nice but the Curry's were not up to scratch. They did not taste freshly prepared and I am fairly sure the chicken was pre diced, pre cooked, it tasted as if it had been soaking in brine. The sauce was also extremely salty with a strange aftertaste. We were very hungry but ate less than half of the Curry's. We have no axe to grind with this establishment, and with all the good reviews, I can only think that the food in the restaurant is of a different quality. Very disappointed !
