Lakeland Spice in Allerdale

Went in there for a meal before going to the Lakeside Theatre in Keswick after hearing good things about it and, oh my, so glad we did. The food was amazing, the service was fabulous and the atmosphere in the place was great. The only complaint I have is that there was too much of it 🤣🤣

A lovely furnished restaurant which we have been to many times. When it is good , it is great, when it is slightly below par, it should not be as they are an experienced team in here.. This was an under par visit. Nevertheless the service was excellent and the lads serving were really polite and efficient. No complaints here at all. The food was just a bit odd this visit. The puree's on the starters were far too big, fresh and tasty but filled the plate. Much too much. The fillings of prawns and chicken chat were ok, not fantastic, but decent.....but surrounded by a huge swathe of puree just did not add anything. Our mains were off the boil a tad. Not much flavour within our 2 dishes of a chicken chilli dish with a lamb Balti, both ok , but again nothing startling. Rice and naan bread were lovely though. We had a lovely evening here as it is such a nice place to dine. It just needs consistency as when it is good , it really is great.

It's a really good meal here. My wife had onion bhajis & I had king prawns on puri for starters, then chicken shashlik & jalfazi both very good with lots of flavour. Recommend to book.

Best indian restaurant in Keswick no doubt

Staying in the local area. Ordered a takeaway from this restaurant. Very friendly and effieicent staff. We ordered 2 curries, 2 rice and a naan bread. It came to £38 which I thought was extortionate. My wife found a hair during our meal in a piece of her chicken which spoilt the rest of out meals for us constantly checking every fork full for further contaminants. Taste was good however due to price and finding the hair in our food, i wouldn't visit Lakeland Spice again.

Nice people, nice place, good service, fair prices, but the Rogan Josh I had was very mild, despite supposedly being medium hot. A bit sweet, too. My partner's meal was also a bit bland. So, okay overall, but will probably try somewhere else next time we're in the area.

Returned here after a couple of years and although the service was again excellent the food wasn’t as good as before. It was ok but not special. So a little disappointed.

This was the first time we had eaten here but won't be the last, we had a very enjoyable meal well presented and tasty, the staff very attentive and explained each dish to us, we will be back. Thanks Steve & Wendy P

Our annual visit was as good as ever. Friendly staff, excellent food with a very interesting Specials section, all in comfortable surroundings at a good price. Love it.

Always eat here when visiting Keswick. Food great as always but massively disappointed with the service. Ok it was a busy Saturday night, but we’d booked in advance. Originally offered a table by the toilets and stoats that was a thoroughfare. Moved one table back. Young waiter came to take drinks and literally snatched the menu away . Whole experience felt very rushed and all about getting you in and out as quickly as possible. Not relaxed. No customer service. Food was good but I could’ve had that as a take out. Disappointed this time.

We came here on our last night in the lakes,we have often visited as love a good curry We got seated upstairs as there was 9 in our group,the service was excellent with the waiter working around the table taking orders for starters,mains and naan's and rice's you could certainly tell he was used to dealing with big groups,the food as always was hot and tasty , with a mixture of meals we all left full and very happy,we will definitely be booking again 😉

First visit to this restaurant and was t disappointed. The place was clean and the service very good. I had prawn puri to start and salmon jalfrezi for main. My wife had meat samosas and tandoori platter for main. Side dishes of vegetable rice and peshwari naan. All the food was excellent

The wife and I visited here without booking a table. The place was busy and had a great atmosphere so all good signs. The guys advised it would be around 10 mins for a table but offered us a seat at the bar and we got a Fri k whilst we waited. Surely enough we had a table ready in under 10 mins and we ordered. Popodoms were light, fresh and crispy. We had onion bhaji to share for starters which was good and tasty. The Mrs had Chicken Tikka Masala which she said was beautiful. I had a “staff dish”, there were 3 x to choose from but I had the make version. It was incredible!! The lamb was so tender it almost melted, the sauce was mild but I asked for a little more spice and was perfect for me. I cannot rate this place enough. The staff were so polite and courteous but left you alone and seemed to time their drinks offerings perfectly. We have been here before but last nights food was amazing and would highly recommend. 5 star guys, thank you.

In Keswick several times a year for many years now and this is the best curry here, a visit every trip, perfect.

We arrived too late to eat in (01/10/24) however the staff were more than happy for us to have a takeaway. So helpful even ordered a taxi for us! Food was delicious.

Great Indian food with lovely service!

Best Indian food we have ever had hands down. It was so good that we made reservations for the next night before we left. We spent 3 weeks in GB and ate at several Indian restaurants, but none came close to the quality and taste of the food at this restaurant. Our waiter was very helpful in helping us select dishes as well. If you are visiting Keswick you must dine here.

Added Madras by mistake to order, they were very understanding & helpful in rectifying the mistake. Great service, great food would definitely recommend 5 stars

I've been visiting Lakeland Spice Cuisine each summer for probably ~15 years! It's always a BRILLIANT curry, and the staff are always welcoming. The Chicken Tikka Bhuna Karahi is an absolute favourite (never seen it anywhere else!) - it's extremely tasty. I went twice whilst visiting Keswick this year... the second time we were looked after by 'Gully' who was an absolute legend and provided some excellent banter (including this photo he took of himself whilst taking our photo!) CHEERS GUYS - we'll be back next summer for sure!!

Great Food, probably the best Lamb Tikka I have ever had. Great service and attentive staff.

I have order takeaway from here a few times and it has always been very good food.ast time, there was a mix up over the phone about an item in the order and I didn't find out until I got back. So I returned (only a few minutes away) and they sorted the problem out with no quibbles. They even added some poppadoms and naan breads as a gift. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The food here was amazing and arrived very quickly, staff were very helpful and kind. we have quite a few dietary requirements as a group (2 vegetarians and 1 vegan) and it took quite a few goes to get our order right, the staff rectified this quickly and were very apologetic, I would definitely recommend coming ! the man who served us was very helpful in identifying vegan options on the menu :)

Delicious food!! Not only your standard stuff! Great service, lovely and competent personnel! I don't live here but if I did I would be here over and over again. This place is something special!!! The interior is great too, and spic and span. And thank you soooooooo much for your surprise present! I absolutely love the smell of your fresh spices and garam massala! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

We ordered takeaway from this restaurant and it was honestly the best Indian food I’ve had in the UK! The curries were spectacular, particularly the lamb bhona and the naga chilli chicken. The chapati was thin and really delicious, considering that it’s made with such simple ingredients, it paired so well with the dishes we ordered. The papadums were a stand out in flavour too! The special biryani was not bad, but it didn’t stand out amongst the curries. However, its side dish of vegetable curry added an extra kick to it! High recommend when you’re visiting the Lake District.

This is one of the best Bangladeshi Indian restaurants we have visited. The food quality was excellent and cooked to a great taste. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was great, too. They have decorated it well even though it's a small place. They serve halal meat. We had to book in advance and wait until 9.30 pm before a table was available, but it was worth the wait. Special thanks to Mansoor, who served us on that night.

We had a dine in experience. Attitude of the staff plays a major role for me, along with atmosphere. Both were excellent. Food was very good and satisfying, requested for medium spice, and received exactly with right amount of salt in the food. Overall very good experience. It is 20yr old restaurant, hope they continue their quality for next 20yrs.

Nice place but very busy. We had the feeling they wanted to get rid of us to give the table to new customers. Food itself was very good, but small portions and a little pricier

No words needed. All I can say is that the atmosphere, the service and the food were amazing. Came all the way from Newcastle to try this place and left with a full stomach and a big smile on my face!

Great food and service...always busy

First found this place last year in August; everything was so lovely we went again the following night. This year, we only had one meal out, and it had to be Lakeland Spice. Delighted to say it hasnt changed: still easily the best halal restaurant in the Lakes, lovely food, superb staff, comfy chairs, good tables etc, absolutely superb.

Really lovely staff and food was luuuuushhhhh, they have dansak too which was a lovely surprise, food came out super quick and the choccy was a nice touch

I went to Lakeland spice cuisine as I’d seen lots of good reviews online. We went to reserve a table the night before and informed them that we would be a group of 7 people. They advised us we would have to arrive at 5:30 the next day as they had a big group coming later and we agreed to this. The next day when we arrived, we ordered 7 naans, 2 curries and 2 mixed starters to share. This is because we had 2 young children with us and we were not very hungry as we’d had a late lunch. After placing the order, a worker who was not serving us came up to us and informed us that they cannot accept our order as we had not ordered enough food. This is baffling to me as no one else had mentioned this to us and there was nothing on the menu or online to state there was a minimum amount of food we had to order. We explained this to the worker and he informed us that they are a very busy restaurant despite there only being 6 other people there. He said he could pack the food up and we could take it to go however, we were staying in a hotel and had stayed in town all day and paid for parking for this meal. Therefore, we asked how many other curries we would have to order to be allowed service in the restaurant and the worker said we would need to order 4 curries altogether. We then asked if we could do this and he said yes. Around 10 minutes later the food arrived and it was all packed up! We asked why as we had ordered the 2 extra curries and the worker said he had already packed the food up. He was not budging on this and we felt forced to leave! One of the women I was with requested that they remove the charge for 2x drinks as we had not been able to drink them and this was taken off. The worker acted as though he was doing us a favour and gave us a 10% discount however, we later saw that this is the case for all takeouts so they didn’t actually do us any kind of a favour. After we got to our hotel, we had the food which was disgusting and inedible. We ordered a lamb curry which was rock solid and didn’t appear as though it had been cooked properly. The naan was sickly sweet and not the correct texture of a naan. We ended up binning the food so our money went down the toilet, literally. Despite the workers encouraging us to order 2 more curries, the food we had originally ordered was more than enough for 5 adults and 2 children. Throughout the night, all 7 of us were violently ill and sick, even the young children, from the food. We all felt so unwell and were unable to leave the hotel all day. We attribute this to the food as we had only eaten sandwiches from a local bakery that day which were very delicious and fresh. It was definitely the food because in hindsight, how can you cook a lamb curry in 10 minutes? In summary, we were appalled and disgusted by our treatment and by the food. There was nothing to state there was a minimum number of items to order and even when we complied with this and ordered more, we were ignored and thrown out! The workers were also very creepy and kept asking very personal and rude questions. As young women, we felt very uncomfortable with this and tried to ignore them. Not only was the food subpar but so were the workers and the service. From reading other reviews, it appears that they do not take well to people who don’t order a lot of food or people who dine alone. I would not recommend this restaurant to any families or people with young children.

I had an exceptional experience at Lakeland spice thanks to the outstanding service provided by the manager. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel welcome and valued. Their attention to detail and genuine care for customers were evident throughout my visit. The resturant was clean, the atmosphere was inviting, and my order was perfect. The team went above and beyond to ensure everything was just right for me and ny family. I highly recommend Lakeland Spice for anyone looking for great food and superb service.

Came here for my brother’s birthday meal and the food was absolutely lovely! Had a few problems with our orders but was quickly rectified. Unfortunately we were sat upstairs and found it to be quite cramped but couldn’t fault the food or service.

Our party of 6 ate here on Saturday 27th July as per previous review this place get ls busy so we called at 5 and they got us in for 7. Our waiter Gully was so good he was so patient when we were changing our minds on what to order and had a good sense of humour which we liked. Service was quick and efficient and the food was spot on would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again when in Keswick.

After eating at this restaurant for many years during our annual visit to the Keswick Convention, we were disappointed this year by the quality of their Lakeland Balti, and the fact they no longer offer dessert or coffee. :-(

Great meal on Tuesday night. Lovely guys, they squeezed us in and I had a superb veg balti (one of the very best). My wife had the salmon tikka. She loved it. A fantastic meal, thank you.

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere My nephew chose this restaurant and I was concerned looking at some reviews. The food was BRILLIANT and very reasonably priced (and I’m pretty fussy!) The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We will definitely be back. The only thing to note was that it was warm inside but it was busy and a warm evening.

Good food, two members of staff very good. Last member of staff could not give us a receipt for the bill. This lead to a misunderstanding. Staff member was then rude. We would never go back.

4 of us came for a late meal after the beer festival. Warm, friendly welcome from attentive staff and my food (king prawn korai massala) was excellent. Very deep, rich flavour with light, fluffy and fragrant pilau rice. The other 3 all loved their food too. The selection of pickles with the poppadoms was amazing too (good lime pickle) Absolutely recommend.

Ok. Indian in the Lake District. Onion Barji was very average…not enough onion and fell flat. Chicken Tikka was too much tomato and not enough spice…a bit boring…for such a high rated restaurant I would have expected more. Service was quick but they were clearly not thrilled to see one person turn up alone…could do better

Absolutely amazing food, delicious and great portion sizes. Good selection of drinks both alcohol and not. Easy menu with good choices. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The seats, tables and decorations were very comfy and welcoming. We would definitely recommend and be back again!

We had our dinner today in this hidden gem in Keswick. The restaurant staff was very cordial and helpful. And most importantly the food was excellent, portions and price were just right. A must try in Keswick. If you are from the Indian subcontinent, or you like to try real Bengali cuisine, ask them for their special Desi style Chicken or Lamb Bhuna, these were just awesome.

I have no other words than THE BEST.....BEST service.....BEST food....BEST Vibe...just the V BEST....We visit annually ...sometimes twice a year wnd as nkthing comes close we are happy to wait until our visits to Keswick...and Lakeland spice come around. Had some fantastic curries here last year, so booked in twice for this week, as brilliant as ever! We tried the specials on the specials board, ( how often have you seen a specials board in an Indian Restaurant ?) , a slow cooked Lamb bhuna, a house chicken curry , a chicken tikka masala and a lamb pathia. All absolutely delicious and full of flavour! Excellent attentive and helpful staff, they really go the extra mile. Thank you for a great night, and for remembering us on the second occasion even though you were really busy.

We came here whilst in Keswick and we have been here previously, We prebooked a table and got seated straight away , we had a quick look over the menu and went with poppadoms and pickles , chefs special starter then mains of lamb bhuna and a chicken and mushroom balti with garlic naan. The food was hot and tasty and we were very happy with our choices , the service is great and dishes came out straight after each other, A couple of beers and we were fully stuffed and happy , We will deffo be back next time when in Keswick

Really gone downhill this Indian. Booked a table online 2 weeks before at 8.30. Arrived on time only to be told our table wasn't ready. Sat down after 9pm, took ages to take our food order. When our food did arrive it was cold. Very noisy, you couldn't hear yourself speak. Never go back again.

What a wonderful experience me and my group of friends had here! After a week of hikes and adventures around the lakes, we were feeling weary and in need of some good Indian food. This place did NOT disappoint. Kind staff who went out of their way to meet the diverse dietary requirements of our group, and delicious food across the board.

Very delicious indian cuisine, good portions of dishes, we ordered many dishes, original indian chicken and curry, beryani and tandoori grills, paneer samosa, all was top, the staff are very friendly staff and helpful, this place is amazing and i do recommend it

We all enjoyed a really good dinner at Lakeland Spice. Excellent service despite the fact that the restaurant was really busy and some staff were off. Shiraz was extremely courteous, hard working and very kindly offered me some great culinary and medical advice by introducing me to Chat Masala! Thank you.

Just eaten here, I never leave reviews, however this place is phenomenal, The staff are welcoming and very attentive, I'm a very picky eater and I can be hard to please but the FOOD is delightfully exceptional I would go as far as saying if I could eat here everyday I would!!!

We were able to get a table without a booking and thank goodness! An absolute gem of a dining experience. My hubby and I just wanted a quick curry tea after a good hike. We ordered chicken tikka biryani and a chicken madras with mushroom rice and a peshwari all of which was freshly cooked. The food was fantastic. The service amazing. We could eat here every night but unfortunately we were just in Keswick for the weekend but at some point, we will definitely be back. 10/10! Thank you 😊

We booked a table for five on Sunday night, having been tempted by the spicy aromas coming from the restaurant as we walked past it the previous evening. I'm so glad that we did as the food, surroundings and atmosphere were all excellent. I really enjoyed my main meal (Koria Masala) as did everyone else with their choices. Lakeland Spice is one of the best Indian Restaurants I've been to in a long time. Friendly staff and ice cold Cobra served in authentic pint glasses all made for a highly enjoyable evening meal.

We visited here whilst on holiday in the area. We were greeted by friendly staff on our arrival who were attentive throughout our meal. We had delicious food at a reasonable price. The service was very good.
