The WSET level 2 course with Manchester Wine School is absolutely brilliant. For three Sundays in a row we dived into the details of a wide variety of topics from the winemaking process, through to the eight principal grape varieties and on to a large number of additional grape varieties. We looked at how the aspect, soil and climate (and other characteristics) affect the flavour profile and quality of a wine and we then applied this knowledge when tasting.
Learning the WSET method to tasting was really eye-opening and has given me an approach to evaluating and identifying a wine which I am keen to develop further beyond the course. Our course teacher, Jason, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate making each session really fun and engaging. He was also really happy to answer questions and discuss topics during breaks or via email during the week. I feel like there is so much more I want to learn and can’t wait to start my level 3!
I can’t recommend this course highly enough!
Great value, fresh and delicious - we’ll definitely be coming back! If you’re looking for something around Ambleside/Grasmere/Windermere affordable and without any fuss look no further!
I’m not one for writing reviews, but I have to say this is by far the best Chinese food in Manchester never mind Heywood.
Fresh and tasty
Good Portions
On time
Value for money
There is not another Chinese and English takeaways in the area that can compete.
Picked the only day with wind and rain and it was actually really nice that the café was warm when it opened. Nice ambience.
Really friendly staff. We had breakfast baps, a little dry perhaps but the mushrooms were tasty. Sensible prices. Dog friendly.
We absolutely love Lift Up! As very frequent visiters to Chill we are here often. Fab tea and hot chocolate (gold dust anyone?!) and the cakes are epic. Especially love the banana bread and homemade cakes. Food is lovely and even the fussy ones find something.
Would like to visit to dine and drink in a bit more but one member of our family gets a bit anxious in closed in spaces so it can be a bit much as often very busy.
Takeaway is an option available.
We have visited the restaurant twice & on each occasion enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Aisha was a wonderful host & made sure we were looked after & nothing was too much trouble.
The chaat bombs & mango kulfi went down an absolute treat……delicious!
Definitely will be coming back again & recommend this highly.
Afternoon drink with friends. First visit on recommendation and didn’t disappoint. Greeted by warm and friendly staff who were excellent. Given olives and nibbles as we sat down. Lovely rose blush pinot wine. Dog friendly and reasonably busy but not overly so. Would definitely visit again.
In all my seventy-never-you-mind years, the warmest welcome ever in an eatery. And not the professional synthetic welcome one sometimes gets, this was the real deal. What lovely people.
Friday evening, 1830h, pretty full. Mostly locals, always a good sign. A boisterous family table of eight for instance, replaced while we there by a family table of nine.
The bar, locals, busy.
Even so, service was quick.
The food is... sshhh... cheap, but very good and plenty of it.
A cut above the normal standard of pub grub.
I had whitebait, steak, cheese cake.
The home-made white chocolate banoffie cheese cake at £4.50 was remarkable, like a marriage between a cheese and a cake. Unfortunately it came with two spoons and it got raided, shall we say, by someone who said they were too full for a dessert. Hmmph.
Overall, great, just great.
One tip... if you visit of a sunny summer's evening, as you drive up to the car park you'll need your sun glasses.
We haven't been to Planks Kitchen for a year so we're pleased to see that the food was as super as we had remembered. After a great walk in the Beacon Fell Park it was a short 15 min drive to get to the cafe. Particularly good vegetarian options.
