Variety of tasty food available - a nice place to pop in for breakfast or lunch! The staff are friendly and helpful. It doesn't take long to get served and prices are reasonable.

We took this way as a change from Barnard Castle, Middleton in Teesdale, Alston route. What a super drive through Stanhope and up lovely quiet roads in beautiful countryside. Hill and dale, valley after valley, rivers and burns and more stone barns than you can imagine. We just happened upon this eating place and decided that it might be the last option. We were glad we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful with a bit of humour which always goes down well. The loos are upstairs, period in style and immaculate. The whole building must have been Edwardian Tearooms and still retains many of the original features. Furnishings are “ eclectic “, I think that is the right expression. The food is homemade not the often seen homecooked. The latter is really factory food heated up like you get at Franky & Bennys. I had homemade Steak pie, very tasty and filling. I forget my wife’s choice but she enjoyed it. They had a new lady cook who took over the day before. On this experience we will be back. Aside from the food, most of the antiques seem to have disappeared except the ones we were sitting on. Don’t except to see the stuff shown in the photos, it’s not there unless they restock. Amazing selection of drinks, the staff are friendly and so are the locals. The atmosphere in there is friendly and there's always someone to share a pint with.

Lovely barman Johnny helped us with our win selection. We had a Gavi which was delicious. Food platters on offer looked good as did the desserts. Whole atmosphere was relaxed a fuss free. Will definitely go back.

Wow wot can I say about this place honestly foods to die for well worth the money always stuffed never had a bad meal yet went for afternoon tea yesterday for 3, son had brunch well worth the money very friendly staff this place should be heaving on a daily basis I think if this place was on the high street there'd be ques fantastic well done guys u were amazing credit to your boss xx

I have no words. The food we received from this restaurant has to be the best Italian food I have ever ate. You can tell it was homemade, it was simply stunning. Me and my partner are absolutely raving about this place, I would recommend everyone to try, don’t judge a book by its cover as I can’t express how delicious the food was. It wasn’t your ordinary average bolognese and carbonara that we were expecting, it had something extra special to it. Both the chef and waitress we spoke to were so friendly and went out their way to make our night special. Can’t express how amazing the food was, 100% recommend to anyone wanting to give this restaurant a go. You will not regret it.

First time used got 5 chicken dinners will definitely use again food was bang on. Price was good service was good

Please make proper fried rice, not boiled soggy rice!!! The rice just killed the whole dish. Won’t be ordering again. No card payment as well, only cash 🙄

We popped in for a few after a dog walk, gentlemen servings was amazing service was amazing however after a short while a female bartender came on and she was so rude and disrespectful to us all and really ruined the mood and made the atmosphere very uncomfortable!

Called for a Saturday tea and we were not disappointed. Fabulous quality and great portions. Not cheap but well worth the money. Will be a regular call for us now. Loads of amazing places to park up and eat so winner all round.

Nos topamos con esto en Market Square mientras paseábamos por Durham. Estaban ocupados, pero no es de extrañar por qué. Nuestros sándwiches tostados eran bangin. Hay muchas opciones y personalizarán su comida a pedido sin problemas. Gran servicio. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo.

we went to the only available pub with a pool of table only to find it covered over for a jam session.loud rock music that was very bad.very expensive place plus lets in young people that causes a bit of an edgy atmosphere no food on offer.very poor place

Had surf and turf, lovely 8oz rump steak, 5 pieces of scampi with chips and peppercorn sauce for under £15. Lovely food and served piping hot, pleasant staff and very clean pub. Highly recommend, great value and friendly service.
