The best restaurants in County Durham North East

This shop is absolutely disgusting how they treat customers they don't listen to orders I pacifically said no mushrooms they got driver to drop it off mushrooms was all over the sausages bacon and eggs when I stated I was allergic to them. They then shut shop straight away so couldn't ring up and complain also every number they have on Google to contact them is not an existing number. Just eat has refused my money back and there is no way of contacting this company who are clearly not taken their orders seriously. Can I actually have someone contact me from shop has I would like to know why loads mushrooms was put all over my food when clearly says no mushrooms so I could not eat any of my breakfast has they put mushrooms all over the meat so could you please contact me so we can stop your workers from doing it to others and ripping people off

'The heating isn't on....' I heard this several times, as staff responded to customers' remarks on how cold it was in the cafe. The chill spoiled my lunch visit, as the food got cold quickly (serving on hot plates would help). It really was uncomfortable, and everyone was huddled in their coats. It was a very nippy 1 degree outside, and so no heating in a former church building with extremely high ceilings is ludicrous. My meal of a panini and chips was fine, with good home made chips, but I couldn't fully enjoy it as the chips soon got cold. This is a lovely little place, with nice staff and good value fare, but I'll wait for warm weather before I return.

Presumably this is now “Helen’s Pizza’s” (sic) of the same address in Horsemarket. We tried to order by phone but the phone rang out. We walked over to the shop and were told that we should have phoned first. When we explained that nobody picked up the phone we were told that it was because they were too busy! We should have quit there and then but it was getting late and there were not too many alternatives. We placed our order and were told that it would be 40 minutes. 40 minutes later the order was not ready and we were told another 15 minutes. Over 20 minutes later our order was produced. This shop needs some serious management. As it turned out the 12 inch pizzas (bolognese, meat feast, margharita and vegetarian) were very good and lasted for dinner and lunch the next day but it was such a hassle to order that we might not bother another time.

Well we have been here loads of times and has always been good. Went today Fri 29th March 2024, Ok it’s Good Friday but you would think they would be prepared. After a bit of a wait watching people get served that came in after us, a waitress came over and took our order but there was only small fish and no large, well call me a conspiracy theorist but the small fish was half a large fish so where were they getting the small fish from 🤔. It was plain to see that it was all to do with money as the small fish was £7 something and the large was £12 odd… so along came our meals and it was ridiculous a bit of fish 4” x 6” and about 15 chips if that. Well I’m sorry but we won’t be back ever for the sake of making an extra few quid you’ve lost two regulars… plus gave the girl a £5 tip before we got the food and she didn’t even say thanks! Shame on you

A great find especially when also looking for a nice walk nearby. You don’t have to ride the train to use this station tea room. Large car park, dog friendly, check opening hours - car park closes at 2.30pm Lovely, friendly lady served us with very nice coffee and cheese toasties as we sat next to the log burner. Pasties and pies looked very nice and the cakes looked so yummy we couldn’t resist having some to takeaway ( it was delicious) We can thoroughly recommend and will definitely return

Nice well prepared and presented cuisine. Service is excellent, by the super friendly and helpful staff.

Staff are always very welcoming with a smile, and food is always tatsy and if you get the chance the hot beef is lovely, and portions are always big

We arrived at the accommodation to be greeted by a lovely welcome pack. We stayed in Raby and were impressed by the space and amenities. My brother in law was particularly fond of people watching from the living room window. A comfortable and very reasonable way to enjoy Barnard Castle and surrounding area. We also enjoyed having a drink in the bar downstairs. Very handily situated. Will definitely return and can highly recommend to anyone.

We absolutely LOVE this place. We moved here in summer and have been trying to find some local legends and we came across KYA pizza. We loved how they have an app to order on and we found the quality of food to be so impressive for the price. The toppings on the pizza are very generous which is what you want when ordering a takeaway (even the big chains such as Pizza Hut and papa johns don’t do this) the food was fresh and hot and we absolutely loved it from here. I can see how it’s so popular! We’ll definitely be ordering again

We use this takeaway at least twice a week.The portions are exactly right,not too much,the curry selections are,in our opinion,the tastiest in the area.The batter balls are perfect,the yung chow fried rice is excellent.would definitely recommend.

Este lugar es ideal para aquellos que aman las hamburguesas de pollo! Delicioso pollo, salsa especial y ensalada. Lo mejor de todos lo recomendamos! Sentado dentro pero mucha gente entrando para llevar.

Popped in a here a couple of times after parkrun with eldest son staff always nice and friendly as he loves the sausage rolls. Great bread and cakes as well I love the rock buns.

Very enjoyable, this restaurant is consistently very good, every time we're in Durham we go to this restaurant, we have had several take away meals and also eaten in the restaurant and every time it has been fantastic, great menu, very tasty and well presented and very well priced, staff are attentive, and friendly, well done guys we will be back.

We dined here this evening and it was most disappointing given the outstanding reviews. The main issue for both of us was the extremely dry chicken in both dishes. We ordered a red curry and a stir fry the red curry did taste lovely but the stir fry tasted of zero flavour which was supposed to be a ginger dish which was totally lacking in ginger. There was zero atmosphere and the room was lovely but not very cosy. We also had to pay on leaving as no one came with the bill. Overall very disappointing
