A great find especially when also looking for a nice walk nearby. You don’t have to ride the train to use this station tea room. Large car park, dog friendly, check opening hours - car park closes at 2.30pm Lovely, friendly lady served us with very nice coffee and cheese toasties as we sat next to the log burner. Pasties and pies looked very nice and the cakes looked so yummy we couldn’t resist having some to takeaway ( it was delicious) We can thoroughly recommend and will definitely return

Now called the Waiting Room @ East Tanfield Station. This cafe is open daily from 10am to 2pm. It's friendly staff serve homemade food including delicious pies, tasty sandwiches, scrumptious toasties & wonderful cakes. Specialist teas & coffees are available. Open for takeaway service only during lockdown and open longer hours when heritage trains are running. Well worth a visit combined with a walk through the picturesque Causey Woods.

I wasnt pleased at our reception - left to stand at the counter while none of the 4 people behind spoke to me. However when I was asked what I wanted all went fine thereafter. The still lemonade was a nice touch, and our sandwiches (ham & cheese on white, tuna mayo on brown) were ok - just average - with crisps. A bit heavy on the marg and light on the filling. Could do so much better!

Happened upon the tea room on a walk. Home made cakes, scones and sandwiches in railway station . Prices very reasonable. 3 pots of tea and 3 cakes for £10. Dog friendly and very welcoming to humans too. Open Sunday only.
