Sam's Takeaway in County Durham

Please make proper fried rice, not boiled soggy rice!!! The rice just killed the whole dish. Won’t be ordering again. No card payment as well, only cash 🙄

I've been going to Sam's since I moved here, 17 years ago. I stopped for a while, due to the fact that it was collection only. Last week, we got a leaflet through the door advertising that Sam's now offers delivery. I ordered my old favourite, King Prawn with White Mushrooms, and a starter of Large Spring Rolls/Pancake Rolls. My husband also ordered a starter, a main, and a portion of gravy. The food was every bit as delicious as I remember. It arrived swiftly, was beautifully seasoned, and unlike in many local restaurants, the prawns were cooked perfectly. I'm going to become enormously fat (fatter...) now that I can order prawns that aren't overcooked. Additionally, in this time of COVID-19, our delivery driver wore a mask. It's obvious why Sam's has a hygiene rating of 5/5--the owners care about cleanliness. If you like Anglicised Chinese food, Sam's is a great take-away, and the owner seems really nice. In future, I'm going to try some more traditional Chinese cuisine, and see if Szechuan is too spicy... the chips are always superb from Sam's, so if the Szechuan fails me, I'll just gorge myself on gravy and chips. And prawns. Delicious, delicate, plump pink prawns.

Have been visiting Sam's since it first opened. The quality of service and the food second to none. Always packed which in itself shows how great it is. Cannot beat it.

Food is delicious every time, particularly love the chow mien!The only downside is no delivery option.

Not eaten anything from Sams for years as they don't deliver and I'm lazy haha, anyhow we went to pick up our food and found the shop dirty, dingy and just generally run down compared to what it used to be. We got the food home and were really disappointed, it was so bad that most of it went in the bin, there was so much salt in it that it was inedible, needless to say we won't be going back, maybe it's time he hung up his apron as he's certainly not a patch on what he used to be!

Food is always the best very tasty ,fresh and alway hot, can not fault anything from here just wish they did delivery’s.

I have lived here for almost 40 years now and "sams" has always been there when needed. Serving very good quality food, lots of it and at a price that wont break the bank, If your in need of some comfort food, get yourself to Sams.

I think Sam’s is the only Chinese takeaway in the North East that doesn’t taste like MSG. Incredible food, every single time. Can’t recommend enough. Fresh, tasty, reliable.

Went here as wanted somewhere different as all the other Chinese Takeaways we find the curry is powdery. Went to Sam's as it was a little place that was quite classic in a Takeaway sense. Ordered Chicken and Beef curry which had plenty of both and the meat itself was lovely and not one bad piece, which is very rare these days. Overall very pleasent and would try again.

Have used sams over 6 years never had a bad meal, good service and plenty of meat in curry, as well as other meals .

Good food overall. You always get plenty of meat which is not the case with some Chinese take outs. I have been going here for years and have rarely had a disappointing meal.

We've eaten from here well over 200 times over a 25 year period. The menu has changed little over that time and probably not at all in the past 10 years. That's besides the point though as there's plenty on offer. However, we've never had a wrong order or poor meal. Tony and his family are drop dead efficient and bang on for price and quality. We've tried other Chinese's for short periods, but always returned to an old favourite. Alongside Seaham Tandoori, these are my go-to and recommended takeaways in Seaham. Here's to another 25 years of excellent Chinese cuisine.

Ordered upon recommendation.. The food quality is good. The rice was ok most of chicken was breast i believe. Had a beef dish too which was ok. taste wise.. Most items were fairly underseasoned...sweet sour was mild in taste. Chow mein was remarkably average. Curry was very mild tasting. Chips were like most Chinese ones but fairly stubby. I m unlikely to be a repeat customer as this is not to my liking. Its best described as a classic fairly anglicised Chinese takeaway. it has its loyal band of customers but its not for me or those who prefer a more oriental taste.

After hearing about it my hubby and I decided to give it a try. So glad we did, it was really lovely, thoroughly enjoyed it, the only down side is that they don't deliver, be prepared to queue because it's very popular and I can understand why.

We have been using this takeaway for over 26 years since we bought a house here in Seaham, and have found the food to be excellent, if you don't know the takeaway and you try and phone a order in, and find the line is engaged it's because Tony has had to take it off the hook as it is a very popular and they do get very busy, its best to go into the shop. The house special chop suey is fantastic, and the curry sauce is great, even more so when you make a curry chip butty.

The best take away anywhere. Have visited for over 30 years and never had a bad meal. Tony is a great front man and the food is superb. Just look in to see how many customers use the take away.

Sam's has become our new favourite Chinese takeaway, since the one we used to go to changed hands and went downhill rapidly. I'm glad we found Sam's because the food is consistently great and the prices are fantastic.Don't be put off if the phone is often engaged when you ring, this just shows how busy the takeaway is and how excellent the food is to have so much repeat business.The only downsides are that this restaurant doesn't offer delivery, which might put some people off. Also, Sam's doesn't do menu leaflet drops which means it can be hard to track a menu down (there is one on the wall in the restaurant itself) which can make it a big of a guess when you order for the first time. Don't worry though, he does all the usual meals (with the exception of prawn toast, sadly) so you can't really go wrong with ordering a favourite you've had elsewhere. Admittedly these are slightly unusual quirks, and ones that might have put me off with other takeaways, but the food and service speaks for itself and I'm happy to put those things ahead of having a menu pushed through my door every other week1 A highly recommend takeaway!

The only fault I can find with Sam's takeaway is that they don't deliver. The food is cooked to perfection, always hot and delicious and definitely the best takeaway in Seaham

We called here on the off chance and we pleased we did. It was about 6:30 on a Friday night and it was packed!! The food was lovely would certainly eat here again.
