Had a nice meal there food was spot on duck and pancakes for starters main sweet and sour king prawn and kung po chicken and egg fried presentation was amazing.and a few beers Micheal the owner was very nice bloke

Rang and ordered for collection food was ready on arrival. Shop was lovely and clean. Great customer service very friendly. Food amazing spicy curry and everything hot and well wrapped.

Everything was good,I thought the fried rice was a little dry. Convenient location, very clean and by all accounts the owner is very popular and well known in the area having run the business for many years

Curry ideal for anyone that likes hot curries. Everything else was dire. The salt and pepper chicken was essentially a processed chicken tender in a disappointing batter with absolutely no spice. Completely tasteless and in stark contrast to the curry. First time going to this Chinese after moving into the area - came because of the really good reviews on here and the fact everyone had been going to “Ken’s” for many, many years. Stick to your usual Chinese if you’re considering something different. Felt as though it was a waste of £25 and won’t be returning.

Absolutely love! Sunrise is at the end of my street (newly moved) I’ve tried others in the area but nothing compares! I really recommend the salt n pepper king prawns & salt n pepper chicken, the chips are always crispy and I love the satay sauce! Our new favourite & would not go anywhere else now :)

Worst Chinese I have ever had, can't even eat it, never again.

If I could give this a 10 I would. Menu contains all that is required from a Chinese takeaway, the place is immaculately clean every time I go in. The food is prepared with care and so pleasing that flavour enhancers are thankfully absent. Prawns cooked to perfection and all very fresh, even the prawn crackers are crisp and not oily. I can see why the Sunrise has been a local favourite for so many years. Thank You

The food was lovely and the place was immaculate. The only negatives are the range of dishes and there are no beef based dishes.

Sorry but did not enjoy it at all. Ribs had been cut into tiny pieces, peking sauce did not taste like peking sauce. And I found it very expensive £36 for three dishes. It ended up in the bin. IIt has actually put me off takeaway food completely.

Kens make nice chicken chow main and fried rice and curry excellent thank you 😋

5* Chinese Takeaway As far as chips, curry sauce, and Singapore chow-mein go, there’s not much better to be found. I know, believe me. Crispy chips, tasty sauce, and well friend noodles. Bangin’.

Best Chinese food I've had. So better than anywhere in the north east, better than Cornwall, better than Edinburgh or Glasgow. London is the worst place

Been coming to Kens for 40 years now,finest chinese in the land, chicken curry still the best.. Great staff very helpful. Singapore Chow Mein also is gorgeous. Probably the only Chinese take away I know where everyone refers to it as Kens(the owner) as opposed to it's real name Sunrise. Now has his sister helping out on the counter. Great service. Probably tried everything on the menu by now all great and tasty. Looking forward to him opening again think I have Chicken Curry deficit!!

Consistent, excellent Chinese takeway food. Service A* Look out too, for the Chinese Lantern plant and lemon trees. Ken definitely has green fingers.

I have eaten food from Sunrise since the shop was first opened. The food is always excellent and consistently prepared to a high standard.In all these years I have never had a bad experience with food from the Sunrise.I now live in Ryhope however will happily travel the 20 minutes or so to buy my favourite dish from the Sunrise, in my opinion the food is that good.

I placed our by phone at 6pm and was told it would be ready at 7pm . I trustingly arrived at 7pm to be told it was not ready yet . I sat with another 16 patient people till 7.35pm then enquired when my order would be ready . I was told it was but one meal was incorrect . They had not taken my name but had Colin in the slip. I then had to wait another 10 minutes for the chow main to be made . I enquired if the other items would still be warm . I was told I could wait for them to be cook again . At the point I caved in, I had had enough . I handed my money over and came home to a half cold takeaway . The gentlemen did say sorry but it was a little too late (1 hour 50 mins late) it still managed to spoil what i was expecting to be an excellent meal . I would not recommend this takeaway unless you have a few hours to spare and a lot of patience . Good luck

Only 3 stars. The food is 5 star, however they have a habit of taking the phone off the hook for an hour so you never know if theyre actually open or not unless you drive down there, which is extremely annoying

Told me to come pick food up for 8pm didn't actually get it for 40 mins after this time very long time customer never again will I come here.

Most delicious food because my husband said so and he never eats takeyway. The delivery time was spotted on and the food was very flavoursome I enjoyed all that I wanted from my order. Am about to order again.

Recently moved to the area and had heard a lot of good things about Ken's. I have to say, it absolutely lived up to the expectations. Delicious food and reasonable prices.

Was staying nearby and wanted some simple Chinese takeaway. Chicken curry and chips filled the brief perfectly. Spicier sauce than I’d expect but that’s not a bad thing. Would happily recommend and will visit again.

Best by far in Chester le street. In fact people who have moved out of the area travel back to the area to come here. Spicy curry(the best). So good he doesn't need to deliver.. only down side is when he has been closed for holidays it gets so busy you have to wait a long time for your food.. But it is always worth the wait.

I have used this takeaway for 46 years the food is aways of the highest quality, I have never had a bad meal from this takeaway, hence the 5* rating.

Always made welcome, only Chinese Takeaway we use. You can ring in your order and pick up later. One portion along with a portion of chips is always enough for two of us. People with larger appetites would need a full portion.

Fantastic Chinese with great staff

Over 40 years since I had my first Curry from the Sunrise and they are still as good today. Ken is an institution in Chester-le-Street.

Still call here when I'm in the area and was introduced to Kens food when I was just a kiddo. Probably the best curry anywhere, lovely food , lovely bloke. Highly recommended.

Being going to "Ken's" for about forty years...by far the best in the area! I've always said that I'm sure there's something addictive in his curry sauce!!

I remember visiting this takeaway thirty years ago and it was excellent! Hasn't changed at all and under the same ownership (Ken's) Enjoyed chicken fried rice and chicken and mushroom with fried rice, both beautifully cooked and red hot. The staff were very friendly and waiting area immaculately clean. Very busy for a Wednesday evening. Our new favourite-5 stars!

I'd heard good things about this place so I thought I'd give it a go. The staff were really nice bit unfortunately the food wasn't. The black bean sauce was really greasy and the meat had large chunks of fat on it. There is less choice on the menu than other takeaways too.

This is place where I and my family love to get our take always from everyone knows kens which is what it is known as in this area the food is Devine and very reasonably priced Ken and his family are so friendly I can't praise this place enough
