The best restaurants in East of England

Visited for the first time with a group of friends. It was absolutely lovely and so reminded me of places we’d been to in Italy. It looks like a cafe but the food is amazing. We ordered wine by the carafe and ordered various pasta dishes which we all said were delicious. Simple, relaxed, friendly, unhurried, just what eating out should be. We will definitely go back again soon.

We come to Stevenage a few times a year for an event and always eat here or get a takeaway. Can't recommend highly enough tasty food and good portions Jerk Chicken has the right heat and the boneless curry goat is really tender. We don't eat before we get to Stevenage now just save ourselves up! Had a takeaway delivered to our hotel today and it was awesome 👌

Chateaubriand was excellent, great vegetables and onions, and I have to say I have never taken lettuce home in a box before (!) but they give you so much and the chilli dressing was fabulous; had it with dinner at home the following day and still crunchy. Excellent service from Alfie.

Dreadful ‘brunch’ experience Extremely poor customer service, one menu for 3 people, lack of interaction and information with a misleading menu. States they had a ploughman’s sausage roll which when we order we were told it wasn’t available. No signs as to what the cakes were, asked, the one we wanted although there were some on display were then ‘unavailable’ Ordered 2 diet cokes as husband is insulin controlled diabetic, 2 large glasses of coke arrived, I took a sip, and questioned what coke it was to be told she had indeed served us ‘normal’ coke….potentially very dangerous!! When the diet cokes then did arrive they were half the size of the original ones… There was also no ice. Cheese scone ordered, arrived dry and solid. There were only 3 other people in the cafe besides us 3, and we waited a ridiculous amount of time for food and drinks. When the toastee arrived rather than walk an extra few steps she lent over the banister, and 2 of our party to pass to me at the far end of the table when she could of just walked round and put it down in front of me. Overpriced and food disappointing compared to other local cafe’s. This was the first time we had visited and it will most definitely be the last. Give this terrible establishment a very wide berth!

We absolutely love Mevan, it’s our go-to place where we know we’ll get delicious food, great service and friendly staff! The takeaways are also amazing. Never disappoints, by far the best restaurant in town!

The best takeaway in and around Essex we travel from stevenage Hertfordshire just to have the best curry food around they have just won an award for best takeaway and they well deserve this award as the staff I.e molly and the manager make us want come back we go there once a Mth

Por mucho nuestro ramen y gyoza favorito. Somos habituales en el restaurante, e incluso si puede haber una pequeña cola bien vale la pena la espera. ¡Recomendamos encarecidamente el ramen de Tonkotsu y la gyoza de cerdo!

Had an amazing private hire at Merrymeade Tea Rooms for my baby shower. The venue is so lovely, so spacious and the decorations are beautiful! All of the guests commented on how nice it was. We had afternoon tea and the food was delicious, there was so much of it and all freshly made. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much, thank you so much!! Will definitely be returning 🩷

Everyone knows that this is the best chip shop in the area! Owners are lovely and the food is delicious and a very good price. The only bad point is that it is cash only. But I guess that helps to keep the price down. 10/10

Found this cafe and shop by accident, as we had an appointment out that way. The staff were friendly and helpful, the drinks were nice but the icing on the cakes was a little hard, even though they tasted nice. The barn at the back was a pleasant setting to sit for coffee, but we felt that the heating should have been on to warm it up a bit (even though it was a summers day.) Overall, it is a nice little place that we would return to.

Really enjoyed our visit - the tower is amazing with differing art and craft displays on every floor, which breaks the climb up the 111 spiral metal stairways . Amazing view from the top. Cafe has an outside shepherds hut servery, with hot menu items prepared in the tower and served outside or on first two floors cafe seating. Super friendly staff.

Atrocious service. Took money THEN decided to tell us it would take 2 hours when it actually took nearer 3. If they can't supply to demand then they should quit the business and don't put underage kids on who don't know how to take orders

We had a well cooked, well prepared meal presented ready for us to take across Bedford. The owners were pleasant, polite and very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal which saved my wife cooking, and enjoyed the standard wine. Only tricky bit was finding the entrance in the dark - but will be easier next time. Can recommend the dog house for a reasonably priced enjoyable meal.

Over priced hot drinks and food.i had a Bakewell tart in a wrapper after I had eaten it realized it was out of date.why make the seating area bigger but still keep the tiny counter.now letting in dogs isn't about time eating places realize not every one wants the smell of animals while they are eating.
