Dreadful ‘brunch’ experience Extremely poor customer service, one menu for 3 people, lack of interaction and information with a misleading menu. States they had a ploughman’s sausage roll which when we order we were told it wasn’t available. No signs as to what the cakes were, asked, the one we wanted although there were some on display were then ‘unavailable’ Ordered 2 diet cokes as husband is insulin controlled diabetic, 2 large glasses of coke arrived, I took a sip, and questioned what coke it was to be told she had indeed served us ‘normal’ coke….potentially very dangerous!! When the diet cokes then did arrive they were half the size of the original ones… There was also no ice. Cheese scone ordered, arrived dry and solid. There were only 3 other people in the cafe besides us 3, and we waited a ridiculous amount of time for food and drinks. When the toastee arrived rather than walk an extra few steps she lent over the banister, and 2 of our party to pass to me at the far end of the table when she could of just walked round and put it down in front of me. Overpriced and food disappointing compared to other local cafe’s. This was the first time we had visited and it will most definitely be the last. Give this terrible establishment a very wide berth!

Extremely poor customer service, one menu for 2 people, lack of interaction and information with a misleading menu of a ploughman’s sausage roll which had no explanation as to what it contained and the description was very poor. Overpriced and food disappointing compared to other local cafe’s sad to say they’ve only recently opened and if they don’t up their game then they won’t survive as an eating establishment just do coffee and cake and leave ‘light lunches’ off the menu. I am bitterly disappointed as I took a friend who lives away to showcase a new establishment but it’ll be the first and last time I visit

The only good thing to say about this place is the coffee. We are very puzzled because some previous reviews talk about the warm and friendly welcome, but our experience was the opposite. Frosty and unwelcoming service ( actually we felt very uncomfortable and a nuisance) The sausage rolls and pasty were vastly overpriced for the quality, made worse by the microwave heating and soggy pastry. At no point we’re we asked how our food was and when we came to pay the woman server had her coat and handbag on ready to leave because it was closing time. The whole experience left us with a bad taste and we regretted that we had ever set foot in such a miserable place. A disgrace to the hospitality industry.

A wonderful welcome and very good light lunch - the tapanade sharing board was delicious. Coffee particularly good. A great rapport beiween the owners, the other guests and us - we had a brilliant time. What a shame we don't live anywhere near Diss but we hope to return in the future. Thank you so much.

Ordered a pastie and a savoury tart which it said came with salad, kettle chips and either piccalilli or a jam. The pastie was an average size but the tart was very small and they both came with a very small salad and around 4 kettle chips!! The cost was £10.50 each which is extremely over priced for what we got. We then found out when we paid that they charged an extra 50p to heat the pastie which is ridiculous to put it in a microwave!!! The coffee may be good, but we only had soft drinks, but they need to offer better value on the food. Will not eat there again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

On our annual festive return to my home town of Diss we were on the hunt for a good coffee shop (with, hopefully, great coffee) to visit with mum and our two kids (8&6). We’d read good reports on this place on Google and TripAdvisor so decided to give it a try. It is very small inside, with space for 4 tables in the area at the front of the shop. When we arrived there were two tables taken by two on each. Being a group of five the staff member did allow us to add the remaining two tables together to have room to sit (there was a 2 and a 4 - but with too little room for 5 of us to squeeze around the 4). This was the first time we sensed a frosty attitude- inexplicably different to the warmth of reception some reviews conveyed. Almost immediately the table for 4 became available so I went to the deli counter and, being a considerate customer, offered to move so they could get two tables back. The answer was yes they would - which we fully understand, being a small independent shop who need as much capacity to serve customers as possible. I thought we were being fairly kind by offering to do this, we were certainly stepping out in a tiny way as customers to help the establishment, but if gratitude was felt this was not really conveyed. So we all stood up, waited quietly and patiently (including the two kids) while the new table was sanitised before shuffling over to take our new place. Quick as a flash (just about had our coats off / next to no time to look at the menu) our host was back asking for our order. Her attitude to us wasn’t warm but quite abrupt and cold. We knew roughly what we wanted so we went ahead and ordered. We went for hot and cold drinks and two lots of toast and were intending to buy some cakes later and some Norfolk-made gifts from the deli shop to take home with us to Derbyshire. Once we had ordered we were surprised by the next thing that happened. The host abruptly gathered up our menus. My wife asked to keep hers to look at the cakes which the lady reluctantly agreed to but connected to that she then commented that she “Didn’t want the children to start pulling them apart” - referring to the laminated covers. I smiled and nodded before it dawned on me how this was quite rude and presumptive about us and specifically my kids - (actually, they just wouldn’t do that). She quickly took the valuable laminated A4 sheet menus away from the table - as well as the two special offer sheets that I subsequently noticed were left on every other table. This added to the tarnish on what could have been a lovely experience. Coffees arrived (and the final menu was taken!). Coffees were good. Toast was good. We drank and ate noticing how the host was talking with the two other tables, asking about christmas / being chatty. We assumed they were regulars or friends. So, perhaps a local coffee shop for local people? (Assuming my mum who has lived here for 70+ years doesn’t qualify?!) Perhaps there should be sign on the door to say not particularly child or family friendly? Perhaps it was just a rubbish day for the hosts and we bore some of the brunt of that? Whatever the reason we found the whole experience very frosty and we left cakeless and giftless. Still on the hunt for a lovely coffee shop/coffee in Diss and sadly now we need to default back to Costa, but at least the staff smile at you there.

This is a great little cafe. I’m not a coffee drinker which I’m guessing is there real speciality. However soup is my speciality and the bowl of homemade tomato soup I had was delicious. I also spotted some very good looking quiches; will try one out on my next visit.

I come here almost every day for a coffee, it's the best in the area by far and in fact some of the best coffee I've ever had anywhere. Not to mention the lovely food available as well. The couple who own the place are lovely and it has a really nice atmosphere and quaintness about it. I would recommend anyone that comes into Diss to visit.

As we wandered around Diss we were looking for some where just to have a coffee and a piece of cake. We didn't want one of the big outlets but rather a smaller more friendly place. It was a little after 3 when we arrived and as we were eating in we entered our name and phone number in a book for tracing. How much easier than messing around with QR codes and texts We had two nice cups of coffee and selected our cake from those on display on the counter.

Has a nice selection of food options. Inside is tea shop/ farmhouse cafe style rather than the more modern style we thought it might be (not an issue just an observation). For us the coffee and cake we had wasn’t the best but we liked the fact you could get some alcoholic drinks and deli food it might be better for those types of visits.

I visit Diss about once every six weeks, but for some reason I'd never tried this cafe before. I was tempted by the menu, which included platters of the various cheeses they sell in the deli, and the homemade soup and sourdough bread. The cafe is small but comfortable, and there are many interesting deli items displayed on the shelves. Service was efficient and friendly.

Very disappointing. Having seen a sign outside offering ‘homemade soup and a sourdough roll’ we decided to lunch here. After a 35 minute wait, despite only one other table waiting when we entered, our microwaved soup arrived (with no apology). Although it was nice and was possibly homemade somewhere by someone - it wasn’t here. The roll also appeared to have been heated in the microwave 😱 I would not have bothered writing this review had it not been for the fact that they then cleared the table before my dad had even finished!!!! There are so many other nice places to eat in this town, with friendly polite staff, that I would not come here again.

As a returning couple to this lovely Deli and Coffee bar, because we love the food, service and great value, our experience again was nothing has changed, and everything was amazing, especially the attentiveness. This place is so lovely, but small with only a few tables so very intimate and friendly. The atmosphere is always quiet and homely, and we have made new friends here by seeing regulars like ourselves. Wonderful - best Deli we have been to and it remains that way. What we like best is the meat and cheese board, especially with such good wine at really great value - not supermarket stuff, but real wine at a good price. What we dont like.....thats a difficult one....er nothing. Everything is just right as it is.

They kindly opened outside normal working hours for our exclusive use. The log burner was inviting, the table beautifully & festively dressed & we were served an amazing array of delicious food (in fact almost everything from the entire menu!) finishing with coffee, cake & a few glasses of pink fizz! Great value for money too. We all highly recommend this little gem to anyone & appreciate the hard work and effort Sue & Mike both put into making it a memorable evening! BUPA Diss Dental Care Team

I love reading the other reviews on tripadvisor, especially the bad ones, 'mean with loyalty stamp', really? Some people in Diss really need to get a life, or just go to Costa and keep giving their money to those nice people at Coca-Cola. And as for the 'woman being frosty' I must disagree, I found the proprietors to be charming, friendly and helpful, as well as purveying the best coffee for miles they also have yummy cakes and pies and a very good selection of wine including a white port that is delicious. I love this place and I hope they make a great success of it, despite the occasional paysan looking for a free kiddies meal, or whatever.

The coffee at the establishment is delicious. Unfortunately you only receive 1 stamp even if two people are having coffee. I was given the excuse that office staff come and buy 3 - 4 coffees and they would soon fill up the loyalty card so they only get one stamp regardless of how many coffees they buy too. Does not encourage you to visit on a regular basis especially now so many coffee shops have popped up in Diss and therefore the choice of where to go for a coffee is bigger.

Today was the Diss Organ festival. A fantastic event. We stopped for coffee late morning at the Diss Deli and Espresso Bar. It was simply perfect. Coffee was just right and made all the more perfect by being offered "cold or hot milk". I have never been asked before and I always have to try and ask for "cold" before the accompanying hot milk arrives. 10 stars for this! Truly made my morning. We chose a homemade Florentine to accompany our coffee. Simply delicious. The owners are friendly, professional and helpful. The lunch and wine menus look inviting too. A nice cafe and deli, clean modern and smart - the service is slow but the quality and localism is top notch. We ordered three dishes for 3 of us - the soup with a large sour dough roll (a little nuked in the microwave) but the soup was really tasty, a pastry with salad and chutney - we went for the Christmas pie, some choices are better value for the £4.95 like the pork pasty, rather than the smallish sausage roll. Along with the mixed deli platter - we thought it small for its £9 price but lovely tasting with 3 thinly sliced meat and 3 small slivered of local tasty cheeses with a few grapes, olives, cherry toms and a teaspoon of chutney along with a very small piece of bread and if wanted 4 wafer biscuits. Compared to say the Wallow in Norwich where there deli platter is double the size and cheaper - its not good value and also when we went t pay they wanted to charge us £18 as they thought we asked for 2 so even less value, they took it of the bill and tightly so. I would definitely go back for the soup and pastries and recommend to others but would like to see a more generous deli platter with more bread and salad. The costings art quite right - - but friendly serve and great place to chill. Lovely drinks, nice selection of teas plus you can take some good quality local deli stuff away with you.
