The Bell Inn Freehouse in South Norfolk

We were staying up the road but decided to try The Bell for a change. The pub is a lovely old building with an extension on the rear. A big open fire gives it a lovely feel. The welcome was warm and the food superb especially the lasagne. The prices are really good - so many choices for around £10. We couldn't have been happier so came back the following evening and were served up the same experience Next time we're back in the area we will certainly be back.

A sunday midday meal for family of 6. Disinterested barman. It all seemed too much bother for him to even smile, let alone be attentive. He said we had to leave our meal table half way through our meal to go to the bar ourselves to get more drinks. The scruffy state of his dress matched the quality of his service. The waitress was very pleasant but didn't know what the soup of day was, and didn't go to find out, and didn't know the answer to any other menu questions. The online menu doesn't match the food available on the day. Rather cheap and nasty bread roll with the soup. The main meals came slowly and not at the same time. The food was less than mediocre with dry and stodgy roast pork and vegetables. The yorkshire puddings were all burned and the replacement ones little better, with some very under- cooked. The excuse was "staff are on holiday". Oh, I guess that's ok then. The waitress didn't return with the dessert menu despite us telling her we'd want to see it after the main course. It didn't matter though because to be frank we were all ready to get out of there. Sub-standard all round, although the beer was nice. Not an earthly chance of us returning there.

Shame we found this little gem on our last night. Food was lovely and reasonably priced, atmosphere was very friendly and the staff were amazing. Very dog friendly. Loved it.

Absolutely cracking roast dinner. 20 of us and we were served in a timely manner. Everyone really enjoyed their food. Thank you ladies.

Can highly recommend the Sunday lunch at The Bell . Very friendly staff , generous portions and a lovely informal atmosphere, with an open fire too. Three of us had the roast Beef, which was very tasty, my son had the three roast meal . We were given 3 jugs of gravy , a huge dish of cauliflower cheese and a good selection of other vegetables & potatoes . Would definitely return when next in the area .

My Dad and I love visiting here for a spot of Saturday lunch and a pint or two. The people are absolutely lovely who run the pub and we are always made very welcome. My Dad has moved away but we try and make special efforts to visit when he's back home x

Arrived about 6.50 on a Thursday night. Pub was quiet. We were looking for a meal but were told we could not eat there. There was one table set for 4 places and we were told that this was for a booking at 7.30. Problem was there was ‘only mother in the kitchen’. Given we were there 40 minutes before the group was due to arrive to be unable to serve us seemed odd.

The Bell is a lovely country pub serving good Real Ale and quality Pub food. Popular with locals and visitors alike. We both had stuffed flat mushroom bacon, cheese and trimmings. Mains were a quality home made Cottage Pie and a Surf and Turf Burger good helpings and freshly cooked. Reasonable prices.

Fantastic roast dinner! WOW! I’m forever in search of a great Sunday roast. And after a run of very disappointing ones I’m pleased to say this really hit the spot. Cosy little pub, fire roaring and fantastic home cooked comfort food at a great price. I had roast beef. The beef comes from a local butcher and you could taste that. Generous slices of beef, with sausage stuffing, two crisp home made Yorkshire puddings, proper roast potatoes and then huge trays of seasonal veg and home made cauliflower cheese. And the gravy made from the roasting juices. It was amazing and great value! My 5 year old foodie daughter had the adults roast and near enough cleared her plate it was that delicious!

If you're in the area on a Sunday, look no further for an absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch. We were there yesterday - I chose roast pork, and my husband a 'trio of meats' - beef/pork/chicken, and they came plated with 2 enormous yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. In a separate dish...boiled new potatoes / cauliflower cheese / leeks and carrots, and individual jugs of gravy, plus sauces. We were so full we couldn't manage a desert, but it was a very satisfying meal....throw in the log fire...and it made for a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Great night as usual at The Bell. Beer is always good here and The Bell Inn Burger is exceptionally good, in fact the best I've had in a long time.. good old fashioned local with friendly staff and customers.

Absolutely beautiful pub grub! Mum had a lovely butchers burger which she loved and I had the best lasagne with chips salad AND garlic bread! The lasagne was homemade the chips tasted like lovely chippy chips and the garlic bread was homemade. Very good value huge portions will definitely return

We are a group of four friends who regularly go out for a Sunday roast. We try a different venue every time and decided on The Bell as none of us had been before, We were not disappointed. The roast beef was tender, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The vegetables were plentiful, cooked really well and included a large dish of cauliflower cheese - a favourite of ours. Desserts were tasty and not overpriced like some places we have visited, Service was friendly and we were made to feel welcome. It is a really good local pub and we would certainly eat here regularly if it were our local.

Good pub grub and a cold pint when it was needed. Could do with keeping down the pigeon population making the outdoor seating area a good deal more pleasant to sit in but I’d come back again I’m sure. Polite and chatty staff were swift with the service and the food was good and very well priced.

Friendly welcome, excellent freshly prepared food at very reasonable cost. Spotlessly clean toilets, which I always think is a good indication of the care on offer by the owners. Pleasant atmosphere, would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Popped into this pub this evening. Glad we found it as our friends have just moved into the village. We received a lovely warm welcome. The owner is really friendly and jolly. Just what you need in these difficult miserable times. Fire was burning lovely and we sat peacefully drinking our drinks. Also extremely Covid clean with excellent measures in place. La cerveza y la comida están bien servidas, y el servicio no podría haber sido mejor. Volvimos el sábado para otra cena, y no nos decepcionó.Un pequeño menú, pero bien hecho. While staying at Barnham Broom hotel we have visited the Bell every year.It's a great village pub and the food cooked by Stephen is very good and excellent value. The menu is not extensive but that reassures me for a small pub. The menu does not disappoint and we had white bait starter and just to be difficult I asked for a dusting of chilli. No problem said the very nice waitress. They were excellent.Main courses we had were all good and another difficult friend wanted 2 eggs with his steak again no problem.Wine selection is good enough and really not expensive. We had house wine and very acceptable.8 for dinner came to £25 a head and we did not hold back on the drinks.All in all great pub, excellent food well cooked and presented by fun staff and very good value. Recommended.

We went to the Bell last night and had a great evening. There were 6 of us and we had Dinner before the quiz started at 20.30. I had the salmon in creamy white sauce with leeks and fresh vegetables and new potatoes. 2 of the men had the liver and onions and ate it all up with relish. One lady had the small fish and chips which was very ample and enjoyed. Another lady had the steak and it was very disappointing with a huge amount of gristle in it. The vegetarian patty was also somewhat disappointing. The desserts were good and plentiful.

So i recently moved into the village, went down the pub with two friends and we collectively have 7 pints before we leave so we brought in business and ordered food at 5:55pm they start service at 6pm, at 6:45 i go through to the bar and ask them to check in kitchen how our food is coming after a 45 minute wait i believe thats more than acceptable. The owner (whom is also the chef) then comes out and kicks off saying how we didn't book (just to point out that at that time we were the only table eating) therefore should not be asking about the timing and telling us we were rude, what happened to the customer is always right? Well this pr*ck seems to have forgotten that. Also to point out I'm a chef at the park farm hotel and if i took that long for a burger and a sausage and mash to come I'd be catching in the neck off my head chef. To sum up, lovely food, cheap beer, c*nt of an owner who thinks his word is law, no respect for the working man and poor timings. And i hope one day he reads this and learns to speak to his customers with respect!

First but definitely not last time to this gem of a pub. Staff are fantastic and the food is fantastic value. Thanks to all for a fabulous evening.

Thanks to Steve & Family for a warm welcome, menu had a large variety for everyone and very cheap for home cooking. Bingo Quiz on the Wednesday was different but very enjoyable from Mark, Jersy Dudek, Granny Paul, Lumbox Len, Mongo & Jeep.

We were on holiday in the area, and decided to book a table for dinner before joining in the quiz. What a great decision it turned out to be. We received a very friendly welcome and were shown to our table immediately. The extensive menu made it difficult to decide, but having done so we were all very happy with our selections. The quiz was a delight too, a most enjoyable evening all round. We enjoyed it so much that we went back again the next 2 nights ! We all chose different meals each time, with no disappointments at all. All the meals were served together, all were hot and freshly cooked, and all tasted divine. My personal favourite was the vegetable Kiev, the scampi was excellent and the fish pie superb too. Other choices from our party of 4 were the mixed grill, steak, chicken and duck - all were brilliant. An added bonus was that the price for all meals was extremely good, absolutely excellent value for money. If we are in the area again, we will make it a priority to visit again and have no hesitation in recommending very highly.

Best pub dinner we have ever had and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
