We have eaten here for years. Mainly brunch ir for tea and cakes. Recently with the expansion of the cafe the service has deteriorated. Expect a 45min- 1 hour wait for food. Recently we had a bacon baguette, scone, cup of tea and cold drink. The baguette arrived after 30 minutes. Then we waited another 10 minutes for the drinks and scone. I did enquire as to how much longer it would be and was told we were in a queue for drinks. Today we visited for mothers day breakfast. Ordered at 10am. By 11am no food so enquired how much longer and were bluntly told they were very busy. Don't expand the seating if the kitchen facilities are inadequate to cope with demand. Love the garden centre and gift shop. Such a shame the service in the restaurant doesn't match that

Amazing selection of home grown flowers, plants, hedge bushes, vegetable starters, etc. with friendly and knowledgable staff. The café is a real hidden gem and has an amazing selection of vegan and gluten free options, including vegan breakfast, gluten free options on all breakfasts and toasties. They also have dairy free milk, and fresh cakes with lots of allergen options and clear labelling. One of the best places if you have dietary concerns but still want to enjoy delicious traditional food.

Went to the coffee shop and had a chocolate milkshake at £3.25 and it was hands down the worst milkshake I have ever had in my life, not only was it small but it had absolutely no flavour of chocolate to it at all, it was like drinking creamy milk. When you compare the quality of it to other places and the price point its really not acceptable, if the milkshake hadn't have been bought by a family friend I would have made my review known to the owner at the time. Definitely will not be returning.

I always stop here for a coffee and something to eat on my way back from Norfolk. I did so as usual yesterday but only wanted something light so decided on scrambled eggs on toast. Sorry to say its the worst I've ever had! Cooked in the microwave for starters, toast had very little butter (or marge I suspect) so all in all, very dry and completely tasteless. Scrambled eggs should be creamy, lightly seasoned and are very quick to cook on a stove, but not these? I suppose I should have complained there and then but they were getting busy by the time I left. Fortunately the coffee was hot and the cake delicious and so the stars.

Popped along to the foundry's cafe yesterday with my partner and Mother for brunch and a drink. Great service, very quick and the food was lovely. We had a look around outside as there were some lovely plants out there. My mother had a few questions regarding a couple of plants which the staff were more than happy to help with and were very knowledgeable and informative. Near the entrance they had some lovely Primroses which we decided to get a couple of. My partner carried the Primroses around while we looked to see if we could find a pot that was a suitable size for them. They had some pots on sale which were outside the shop window which is between the entrance and the exit. We started to have a look at the pots when a lady came out from the exit doors wondering what we were doing, we said that we were looking for a couple of pots for the plants but she continued to watch us for bit longer, we soon realized she was keeping and eye on us making sure we didn’t wonder off with the plants. The lady said we could come in through the side exit door to pay for them. We had another look inside to see if there were any more pots that would be suitable, the whole time being watched as if not to be trusted. We decided to leave getting any pots as by this point we just felt so uncomfortable looking around. When my partner was paying for the plants, the lady at the till spoke with such a bad attitude and just looked at us with such a judgmental and serious face. We left feeling very shocked and disappointed by the whole experience. I appreciate that staff need to be aware of customers as sadly there are shop lifters out there but, there was absolutely no need for how we were treated as all we wanted was to find a couple of pots for our plants. I strongly recommend that in future you move your on sale pots far away from the exit as it is such a silly place to put them if there is such a fear of people shoplifting. Sadly I don’t think we will be returning to this place which Is a shame as my Mother has been a returning customer here several times and has spent a lot of money on plants over the years.

Disappointed with the service and their customer service. Ordered food, but they had obviously mixed orders up, as tables came in way after us served their meals( same breakfasts) and left before we even complained. When we mentioned this, they were not apologetic, and refused that this could not happen. We are not telling untruths. If they had just admitted we had to wait due to error, we would not have minded. As would have given us reason why we had to wait longer. That being said, the quality of the food is good, but we won't be going again, as felt we were poorly treated.

Meeting relatives for lunch today, we were lucky they were trialling a new carvery. We all decided to give it a try. Choice of 3 meats, Turkey, beef and pork and a good selection of veggies, yummy yorkie puds, roast potatoes, and a delicious gravy. We all cleared our plates with no complaints. Comfy seating in the conservatory, impeccable service. Really was very good. Oh, I forgot to say, all this for the princely sum of £9.95 a head. Not sure when they will do it again so best to phone yo check up its a carvery day, but it was certainly worth a try. BTW the rest of the good going out looked yummy especially the breakfasts and there were some delicious looking scones, sausage rolls and cakes too.

I had a cappuccino and a cheese and chive scone, my partner had a hame a cheese toasty and a pot of tea. 30% through my cheese and chive scone I found a human hair all the way the rest of my scone. I immediately took my scone back pointed out the beginning of the hair and the end with the middle still in the scone. I got an apology and was ask if I would like something else or a refund. I requested a refund as my stomach was still churning from this delightful hair in my scone. Sadly it also put my partner off her sandwich and stopped eating her sandwich. The most annoying part is that senior management never came over to give a full apology and could at least offer complementary drinks. It's if they get a lot of complaints and is the norm! Very disappointed as I am sure this is a very nice café but in our case very poor after sale service. Also noted the management/owners don't even reply to reviews regardless good or bad, maybe they don't care!!!!

A huge selection of plants for the weekend gardener to choose from. It'd be helpful if they were arranged by the garden conditions in which they thrive, eg. Sunny, well drained soil; partly shady, wet soil; shady, clay. But the owner is on hand to help customers with inspiration - and for specialist advice on specific types of plants, he's quick to brief one of his gardeners to help. The newly extended cafe/restaurant is great for a quick coffee, breakfast or lunch and offers a beautiful view over the nursery. The range in the gift shop isn't my cup of tea and the outdoor/BBQ range has reduced gradually over the past months. Also, due to past bad behaviour, dogs are not allowed. But The Foundry is a good outing - and an invaluable resource for all our nearby neighbourhoods.

Dreadful ‘brunch’ experience Extremely poor customer service, one menu for 3 people, lack of interaction and information with a misleading menu. States they had a ploughman’s sausage roll which when we order we were told it wasn’t available. No signs as to what the cakes were, asked, the one we wanted although there were some on display were then ‘unavailable’ Ordered 2 diet cokes as husband is insulin controlled diabetic, 2 large glasses of coke arrived, I took a sip, and questioned what coke it was to be told she had indeed served us ‘normal’ coke….potentially very dangerous!! When the diet cokes then did arrive they were half the size of the original ones… There was also no ice. Cheese scone ordered, arrived dry and solid. There were only 3 other people in the cafe besides us 3, and we waited a ridiculous amount of time for food and drinks. When the toastee arrived rather than walk an extra few steps she lent over the banister, and 2 of our party to pass to me at the far end of the table when she could of just walked round and put it down in front of me. Overpriced and food disappointing compared to other local cafe’s. This was the first time we had visited and it will most definitely be the last. Give this terrible establishment a very wide berth!

Went here with my grandparents for a roast and it was a solid roast at that. Service from the person behind the bar was lovely and personable, I’d have preferred a better real ale selection as both options were bitters but honestly that’s just me being fussy.. roast was great, we had the option where you have a bit of all the meats - so worth an extra £1.50! I wouldn’t normally order pork from a roast but I’m so glad I got to try some as it was lovely. Definitely worth making the trip out of the city :)
