It was nice. There was only one man serving, so bit of a wait, but we didn’t mind. The food was lovely. I had a bacon sandwich, and the man gave me extra bacon just because we tipped quite high. We also loved what else we got (English Breakfast and Omelette). 10/10 would recommend again.

We came here based on recommendations. It’s a lovely setting, low ceiling, twinkly lights. The staff were awesome, friendly and attentive. Except somewhere along the line our order wasn’t placed. We sat for almost an hour waiting for our food. The wait staff explained what had happened and as a compensatory gesture, they removed the cost of one meal and one drink that was ordered during our wait. Our food arrived…fish pie, which really was a dish of dry mashed potato with an odd prawn and scraps of white fish and possibly salmon. The dish was sat on a paper serviette, on to which a couple of tablespoons of frozen peas had been served- I think it was £18.00. My partner had rib eye steak which was small and way overdone, with two onion rings that had no onion in them and oven chips. for £25. We believe, based on our long wait due to the order not being placed, that because they stop service at 9.00 our order was thrown together by a reluctant ‘chef’ (and I use that term lightly!) I was hesitant to review as the staff were so nice, and we were compensated with the removal of the fish pie and one wine, however, the food was so below average I think I would have reviewed anyway if we’d had to pay full price for such meagre, poor offerings, plus the fact we’ll never be returning.

Coffee average, hot chocolate not nice, far too strong and sugary, could not drink. Pretty area to sit outside and watch the ducks on the pretty lake.

We only came here because the Barleycorn was holding a private function or something, but glad we did! The food is fairly modest pub grub, but done very well. Served hot and with some of the best chips this side of the Granta. I can heartily recommend the pie. Desserts such as sticky toffee pudding are generally something one can rely on in most pubs, and there was no exception here. Decent beer, too.

Came here tonight with my son, brother and husband. We had a lovely time, the bar lady and the owner were both friendly and welcoming, my son has additional needs and was really chuffed he was allowed to play swingball and was given some ice pops! Its genuinely nice pub, glorious pizza! Friendly doggos too that enjoyed all the pets! I do think some of the recent bad reviews are terribly enough with all the things the pub's owners have gone through last year and this year, people need to be kind!

we met with friends today, what a find, it was immaculate inside and obviously well cared for... Lovely guy served us and the meals were all perfect, we were 4 and another table, such a shame as the owner goes above and beyond.... Real napkins not bits of tissue. best chips anywhere crispy and fluffy.. a faultless experience... look forward to returning. Thank you J Barleycorn

An overpriced restaurant for mediocre food. Two kids burger meals(both burn't).No point complaining as there isn't anyone around except for the overworked guy on the till. Chicken ceasar salad arrived after everyone else had pretty much finished their meal.£14 for a mediocre chicken burger and chips.£12 for a chicken ceasar salad with hardly any content. Very poor, I would suggest eating anywhere else as there were so many issus with this meal.

Awful experience. Lunch is only from set menu which is cheap nasty dishes, curry, risotto or toasted sandwiches, etc. Decor is from 80's and needs renovation. Risotto was way too salty. To top it all, there was a huge staff argument in the kitchen with a male screaming and shouting obscenities at a female staff. The swearing was disgusting and the poor female came out of the kitchen crying. No-one deserves being talked to like that and it was unacceptable. Unprofessional and the male should be sacked for this behaviour. We thought about going into the kitchen as we feared for the safety of the female staff. Luckily we were the only ones in the place (as it's so bad I guess). Will never go back and will warn friends to stay away. Shameful.
