We stopped here with our grandchildren after our visit to the Cathedral.
Simple lunch menu sandwiches, jacket potatoes cream & savoury teas etc.
The children were pleased with their mini monks lunchbox, I chose the full monks bacon & stilton sandwich (plus crisps cake & drink). Fairly priced restricted seating inside, it was a nice so we chose an outside table.
We went here because it is the nearest restaurant to The Globe music venue (and the Arena), and we wanted a quick and simple meal before going to a gig.
The meal was neither quick nor simple but I'm giving Alsham a five star review because the food was so good. The reason it took a while to come is because everything is freshly prepared ... and you could really taste that. We had four vegetarian dishes and each one was bursting with flavour.
No alcohol is served but there is an excellent range of freshly made fruit juices.
It was a warm evening and we sat outside (a rare opportunity in Newcastle) in a traffic-free street (also rare).
We will definitely eat there again.
This deli/ cafe serves delicious food. Homemade soup, sandwiches, pastries and cakes. It is a great place to stop for a quick snack if you have to go to Petersfield. They had sold out of a few items when we went as it was close to closing time, so it must be popular!
We arrived at 7 p.m. and were lucky to get a table. The restaurant was pretty much full. I recommend making a reservation.
Inside, it was clean and presentable. It's a good-sized restaurant with two dining areas and a good ambience.
The staff are attentive and very friendly. Even though they were busy, they took the time to talk to us.
The menu was varied.
We had the onion bhaji, three good-sized bhajis to share, poppadoms, and all the sauces. They were delicious.
We ordered the vegan biriyani and the chicken balti. Both were good-sized portions and very tasty. The balti had one chilli pepper symbol and was the perfect heat. The vegan biryani came with a bread topping on the rice with jack fruit at the bottom. We had never seen this before, and it was terrific.
Do not be in a hurry. They were quite busy, and it took time to get drinks, order, bill etc., but I had no issue as the staff were great, and the food was amazing.
We would highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back. Well done.
What a find for Sunday lunch and any other meal out I would imagine. Everything from the welcome on arrival, the service and most importantly the quality of food was outstanding. Starters included prawn cocktail, parfait and waldorf salad all excellent. Chicken and beef for main course could not fault, beef perfectly cooked, chicken moist and flavoursome, perfectly cooked roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese to die for and a lovely selection of fresh vegetables. This was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. Would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you.
Me and my friend decided to try out this place because we really wanted to have authentic chai and snacks. I ordered a Kashmiri chai and she ordered a earl grey tea. We also ordered some samosas. The samosas tasted really nice. However we had to remind the wait staff to get us them has he only brought one samosa. We then ordered two more samosas and the same thing happened. It’s as though he forgot or something. I ordered a masala chai and was given a chai latte by mistake. When I mentioned that it was wrong tea I wasn’t offered what I originally. I was so fed up at this point I decided I didn’t want anything else.
The food tasted good but sadly service needs to improve. So won’t be returning. My friend also mentioned she could smell a weird smell In restaurant which is a bit concerning too. Wouldn’t recommend this place purely based on the poor customer service experience.
We are the new management of The Chase Cafe Jo and Charl welcome you to the opening of our cafe. We would love to see you. To come and enjoy a cuppa or food or maybe both.

Great pub full of character, with lovely views out the back and from the newly constructed beer garden, where you can sit on some comfortable outdoor setees or tables and chairs.
With its own microbrewery on site producing some great tasting ales. Obviously, the Sunshine is a favourite and im slowly getting through the others.
