Visited on a miserably wet Sunday but was cheered up tremendously by a pot of beautifully fresh prawns and a crayfish, salad and lemon mayo sandwich which was made while I waited. Plenty of fresh filling in lovely soft brown bread. Cost a little of £7 for both. Made my day and will definitely visit again ☺️

Very disappointed and the Magpie seems to go on its past reputation of being a good fish and chip restaurant. Ordered a regular haddock and chips which had to be sent back , the haddock was very watery and the most probable reason was that the fish was frozen and the batter very thin and soggy. They did change the meal and we were served another haddock and chips and although better was definitely not up to a standard of award winning restaurant. My suggestion would be to try somewhere else when in Whitby.

Visited with my husband and dog for tea. We popped inside but the chap said he would come out to rake our order. We sat at one of the pretty tables. We ordered haddock and the sausage and both were lovely. So nice to sit and have quality drinks too. Really polite and efficient staff.

We ordered 2 x fish and chips with scraps. The food was pretty good, not the best I have ever had (hard to beat Murgatroyds in Leeds) but it was by no means the worst and certainly sat in the top percentile. The staff were really pleasant too. What really spoiled it was that when the bill came, there was a charge for the scraps! Have they forgotten that by having scraps, the customer not only helps them to keep the oil fresher for longer, but, also saves them the cost of having them disposed of in the commercial waste! It may have only been 40p, but as we all know a small charge rapidly grows and after all, traditionally chips were free because they were used to keep the oil temperature down before thermostatically controlled ranges, now look how much a bag of chips costs!!! Certainly makes you question profiteering...

This is a hidden gem away from the tourist hustle and bustle of Whitby. The couple who run it are friendly and helpful and the food very good quality at excellent prices. Most place today you just about get change from £10 for 2 hot drinks but here You get a little change from £5 for a tea and a coffee, both of which are good quality. The breakfasts are a good price, good quality and generous.
