Was down yesterday with family and had 3 meals which were great and service was was fast even though it was busy

Great little place with an amazing view of the beach which made for a lovely atmosphere. One of the nicest fish and chips I've had. Really good value for money. Stunning location. I would definitely go here for my fish and chips if I was in Whitby again.

During my visit in Whitby I was recommended Mister Chips. Fish was superb, the best I've ever had, chips were just chips, nothing special. Cut and deep fat fried potatoes. Tea was weak and lacked flavour. I'm pretty sure this tea wasn't Yorkshire tea as promised. I didn't enjoy the music as I would prefer something more soothing instead of modern, but that's my taste. However, girls serving me were nice and very helpful.

We had an exceptional experience at Mister Chips by the Beach! While the fish and chips were top-notch – crisp, fresh, and full of flavour – the standout dish for us was the lamb kofta. Thanks for chef MATT It was beautifully seasoned, juicy, and cooked to perfection. A real surprise treat at a seaside spot! Huge thanks to Sophie and Vidya for their outstanding service – they were incredibly warm, attentive, and made us feel truly looked after from the moment we walked in. Ordered a vegetarian hot dog, got served a meat hot dog. Only came here as daughter is coeliac so wanted to go somewhere which sounded like they took care over what they feed people, but was beyond disappointed with this experience which left me feeling sick for a long while after having eaten some of the mince before realising it was in fact meat which I’ve not eaten for 26 years! Very unapologetic just an attitude of ‘it is what it is’. Everyone’s meals were slammed down on the table. People who ordered a special which came with bread and butter and a hot drink didn’t get the bread and butter ‘as they didn’t ask for it!’ - asking to be given the rest of what was ordered and paid for resulted in an argument with the waitress where we were made to feel like we were asking for something extra and virtually made to plead for it! Absolutely ridiculous really. Awful attitude and terrible customer service. Would never return!

I’m not a huge fish and chip fan but apparently my week in Whitby meant I had to have it twice. Mr chips is the nicest fish and chips I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed it and it’s much cheaper than others nearby.

Really impressed with our experience at Mister Chips. We were a large group of 20 with 3 dogs and one coeliac. We were in the area on holiday and having heard Whitby did the best fish and chips in the country, we wanted to try it out. They managed to sit us all together no problem. The staff were friendly and service was swift. The food was absolutely delicious and my niece was delighted there was lots of gf options she could have. It was some of the best fish and chips most of us have had and decent value. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely go back.

Really friendly place to eat! Great for families, good kids menu and good veggie options too. Very attentive staff. Food is great, cod was amazing! My son loved the veggie dirty dog! Also so close to the beach.

We picked Mister Chips for lunch as it was cold and windy and the queue for The Magpie Cafe would have meant standing outside for some time. We were seated quickly in the no-frills restaurant and our order was soon taken: large haddock and chips; scampi, chips and salad. I enjoyed my complementary pot of tea while we waited. Food came in a reasonable time. The good: lovely moist fish in mostly crispy batter, piping hot. Delicious. The not-so-good: chips weren't crisp, or even that hot, so they cooled down quickly on the cold plate. They were fine, but could have been better. The scampi breadcrumb coating was pretty thick and slightly overcooked, being served a little too dark brown, so the overriding flavour was of that, rather than the scampi filling. So, mixed feelings. Better chips and an eye on the cooking times would have made it delicious all round.

Quite possibly the nicest piece of Cod I've had in forever, Cooked beautifully, and the homemade tartar sauce is to die for. Staff very friendly, and even though it was really busy, they seated us very quickly. Prices about what you would expect from a busy harbour town. Don't think the Chinese family that were sat next to us, fully understood what was what. As one ordered 3 cod on one portion of chips, and another covered her chips in an unhealthy amount of sugar ! I'm guessing she's never seen a British sugar dispenser before. 😆 All in all, would highly recommend.

It was a busy day for the chippy. But the food wasn't good. The chips were greasy. The fish was very very very small, the fish was all greasy batter. They were not cheap either. First and last time.

We stopped for takaway fish and chips on the way back to the car. The service was prompt, and the fish was freshly cooked. The meal was first class, and the best I had for a long time. The batter was crisp, and the chips had a good flavour. The curry sauce was tasty as well, although not your usual sweet tasting one. will definitely go back here when we come to whitby again.

Delicious seafood platter - nice to see a range of fish on the menu aside from just haddock and cod! Buy local!!

Just had medium haddock chips and mushy peas. It was absolutely delicious, and the service was amazing. Very clean inside. In my top 10 of uk fisheries.

Había estado deseando probar algunos de los famosos Whitby Fish & Chips durante varias semanas, pero estaba tan decepcionado con el resultado final. Bacalao grande, patatas fritas, guisantes mushy y salsa: El pescado era encantador, pero la masa carecía de sabor, era tan soso. Las patatas fritas estaban secas y sabían a “calientes” o se mantenían calientes durante algún tiempo. Los guisantes húmedos eran agradables, pero la salsa era solo gránulos Bisto o algo similar. El café sabía a Nescafé. Tantos lugares para elegir, pero desafortunadamente mi elección no fue una buena.

Llamamos para almorzar ya que el tiempo había cambiado. Al entrar la encantadora jovencita (Lucy) nos llevó a nuestra mesa y nos trajo menú s. Luego otra encantadora dama de placer (Sophie) tomó nuestro pedido y fue muy útil para ayudarnos a tomar nuestra decisión. La comida era muy buena y un montón de ella. Recomiendo encarecidamente comer aquí, pero asegúrese de que tiene hambre. Muy agradable experiencia. Definitivamente llamaré de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en el área.

Stopped for some chips, ordered a large chips and got a half full tray, chips were squashed when put in the box as they were using tongs instead of a scoop and tasted of oil. Not the best.

Waited longer than other customers for ordering and service . Chips not perticurly hot . Or just scooped from warm storage box and oily Fish was fresh and decent batter likewise it was not particularly hot . Extreme price for tablespoon of peas @,1.50 Pot of tea was the only item served hot .

We went into this restaurant to order a drink and we were very disappointed. Staff were beyond rude, very unprofessional and ignorant. We felt extremely uncomfortable to even be standing in the restaurant for such a short period of time. It is very evident staff lack basic customer care skills and we would not recommend you visit here!

Tables were metal & smelt of it.Partition between our table & the next loose at bottom so when people pushed against it, it touched me.I had a small fish,chips & peas.The fish was crunchy but ok, chips were greasy-I ate 3 only & my lips tasted of grease a couple of hours afterwards.Peas were fine.My husband had skate which he said was passable.When asked if our meals were ok, said they were greasy, no response.

We got seated and the young blonde girl serving was clearly in a bad mood she threw the menus on the table which are made out of wood and nearly hit our two kids in the face as there heads are table height. We then went on to find hairs in 2 of the meals out of 5 other than that the food was nice

Fish n chips for 3 and a sausage n chips, 3 sauces and 3 cans of pop £51 absolute rip off. To top it i asked for 2 curry sauces and got 2 gravy. Fish smaller than i get at home in a meal for £5. Would not return.

We were seated quick but the service was ridiculous the waiter would not respond when we asked questions they were very miserable in the end we didn’t order food and left.

Had fish ( haddock) and chips take away sat 17th aug 5 oclock ish. Appeared to be freshly cooked. Wrong. Must have been frozen and not thawed out. Was watery and utterly tasteless. Had skin on as well. Chips were also tasteless and lacking in potato! £11.80 to feed the seagulls. Worst fish n chips i have ever had. There were around 10 of us and all thought the same ( cod was as bad).

Very poor experience today. We ordered 2 fish specials.Other customers arrived after us and were eating before us. When I asked waitress if we'd been forgotten she dismissed me and said it was because they were busy. Would definitely not recommend.

Food was spot on! Service was swift and with a smile. Lovely meal and full tummies all round. Will be back again one day soon.

Amazing 🤩 seafood platter a stack of (cod, plaice, haddock and Lemon sole) was cooked to perfection! The chips were a bonus! ( I had chips from another chip shop along the front and they were awful, my mouth was full of grease) so walk to by the fun house, and you will find the best chip restaurant ever!

Wet Tuesday in Whitby, great to find a dog friendly restaurant. We had medium cod and medium haddock and compared to down south these are huge portions with plenty of delicious fresh fish: and plenty of batter for the did. Lovely.

Really enjoyed small fish n chips special with a drink and slice of bread n butter. We also had medium fish n chips. Both portions were ample. Great service. Food was really hot cooked fresh. Soo lovely. Highly recommend

Easily accommodated a family of 7 including baby in a pram and a puppy on a lead. Food was cooked to order and delicious with generous portions with bread & butter and lovely pot of tea or coffee.

We came in here over the half term break. The food was absolutely lovely. The fish pie was loaded and the best fish pie I have ever had. My father in law had skate and it was great! (pure poetry). My wife had a stir fry which was epic. Can't speak highly enough of the staff who while serving us had to deal with some awful customers who were just rude. Our Old English Sheepdog, Rodney, would like to say thank you as well because they are so doggy friendly. We would highly recommend this place.

Looked forward to going here but every time we visited Whitby it was closed, but on our first visit we were sadly disappointed, my fish was soggy and wasn't the best, the wife ordered sausage chips and beans were served cold ? So by the time I had nearly eaten mine hers arrived still not the best

Didnt like the metal chairs, felt dirty and whos idea was it to have a mini childrens fair slap bang outside blocking the lovely view of the pier and the sea!! We had the special of small cod n chips, bread and butter with a tea or coffee for £11.95, the fish was excellent but the chips were luke warm and we got both of our bread on the same plate? All in all it was ok for the price but won't be visiting again.

Lovely service and atmosphere, very welcoming. The food was amazing, well cooked and the presentaion was really nice. Only niggle was the chairs. We were seated at a table and some of our group were a little curvier than others. The chairs were super uncomfortable for them because the chairs are solid metal and have arms on them which cut into their hips/legs. Apart from this we had a really lovely experience. Recommend!

Stopped in this little gem.what a fantastic meal,we had ,everything was fresh and very tasty,just a tip for you,there is a smaller menu,for those of us who can't eat a large meal,and believe me the meal size is huge,and delicious, nice cup of yorkshire tea.fresh bread and butter, and proper mushy peas, not like those watery runny ones.nice and clean inside and ,very friendly, helpfull, staff,i would recommend it to everyone. Very nice.

Great menu Smiling and happy to serve staff We only popped in for a quick bite to eat Great value Well worth the visit We had a massive plate of chips Two slices of bread One pot of tea= 3 cups One pot of coffee= 3 cups. All for £6.60 Brilliant

Visited here on a quiet weekday. Superb service, food and friendly staff. We normally go to the Mr Chips near the swing bridge, but this one has much more room. The lady who took the order was very attentive, polite and friendly, couldn’t wish to be any better taken care of.

Both of the young lady staff were perfectly suited for their roles. They were pleasant, extremely polite, professional and made my dining experience one of the best ever. The food was tasty, red hot and very filling. Thank you.

I thought the young members of staff were polite but the so called young manageress was patronising, lied about me being rude to the young members of staff. This came about after I stated I was not impressed with the quality of the food. The high prices did not include mushy peas so we had to pay extra then they were tasteless. The chips tasted warmed up, the fish was more batter than fish. I could not eat my meal & neither could another one with me. The gravy literally held a fork up straight in it... far too thick. The sausage was cheap type, like the bread they brought out well before the meal. The so called manageress did her best to try & wind me up but I was not going to rise to her patronising & pathetic attempts to do that. She admitted to wanting to wind me up saying oh yes please!! She said I've took the price of the gravy off the bill, oh & the drinks but hadn't so when I addressed this with her, she threatened me with her boss & the police, to which I said "oh yes let's get this sorted, especially you accusing me of been rude to the young staff". She asked we moved away from the till area, so we did. Next a guy from the kitchen came over apologised & said he'd spoken to the boss & the boss had said for us not to pay for our meals but I said I would pay a discounted price, but he said no its ok & said the girl had been spoken too for her behaviour towards me. I will never give this place my custom ever again !! Note to the so called manageress: Never accuse customer's of something they have not done or make those young girls so petrified they dare not stand up to you..... it's called bullying !!!

Visited today (4th April). The food was really good (huge piece of Haddock!) The lady serving us, was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Couldn't have asked for more.

Ordered fish and chips (nice) other half ordered king prawn chilli with salad and chips (she loved it) and ordered a kids fish portion and chips was plenty. Was reasonably priced for what we got

Think this is just a chippy ? Think again, what a fantastic eatery this is, in our party of 10 we had mussels,fish pie, various fish dishes and sides. Fantastic fresh produce cooked to perfection, ample portion sizes,lovely staff and real value for money, highly recommended.

Visited Mr chips by the beach today while on holiday. We have the dog with us so this was a big reason we chose this chippy as its dog friendly and dogs can actually sit inside with you while you eat your meal. The staff on arrival were super friendly and helpful and our large haddock and chips was served quickly. I don't like skin on my haddock so when we enquired the lady said that's fine they can remove the skin for us! A chippy we came to last year in Whitby refused to remove the skin so we were very greatful that these would and they didn't make it feel like a problem. The fish was delicious,fresh, steaming hot and big white flakey chunkys. Fabulous portions too. The batter so crisp and light. Plenty of chips to accompany it which tasted amazing too. I'll definitely be going back here.Food and staff just brilliant 🙂

The fish although large was very much covered in a thick batter

Friendly and prompt service, decently priced for the quality of food, the cod was absolutely delicious, beautiful flaky fish and a crispy batter. The curry sauce was yummy too! And bonus points for being dog friendly! Thankyou for the treats you gave my pup, was a really nice touch.

My experience at mister chips by the beach was exceptional! Especially the young blonde and young brunette girls with their beautiful beaming smiles they made me feel so welcome. The fish and chips were 10/10- cod was succulent and melted in our mouths, the chips were fluffy and crispy on the outside which is the perfect combination. The restaurant and toilets were spotless, finished my experience with a ginormous wonderful whippy! I’ll definitely be coming back!

The service was superb. The young lady was super pleasant, professional and efficient. Food cooked fresh was all excellent. Can't fault it.

The tables were dirty food all over the floor cutlery sat in dirty tins on the table waited ages for a large cod when it arrived it was raw inside would never eat there again

Our original choice of restaurant was closed so ended up here and I’m so pleased we did. I ordered from the specials board, pan fried sea bass with smoked bacon and leek smashed potatoes ,every mouthful was an explosion of flavour which I didn’t want to end. The staff and service were excellent. Highly recommend

Fish and chips is a classic meal when visiting Whitby and there is no shortage of options. There are even a lot of places that offer GF batter, plus several that you can take your dog in. Mister Chips ticks both of these boxes. I can't say that I've tried every place in Whitby but I can highly recommend this one and say that it's where I will return when I'm next in Whitby. The food is excellent and freshly cooked with generous portions. The service is friendly and accurate. The view is of the harbour and abbey. The atmosphere is classic fish and chip restaurant. And above all it's a normal place, it's not at all pretentious. It's a good restaurant that deserves to succeed. Menu tip: the fish platter, with 4 different battered fish on a bed of chips is delicious and enough for two.

went to mister chips in june last year and was was met with a very polite young man that helped me decide on getting a medium cod and chips. as it was made to order it took around 8 minutes then i was met by the crispiest batter on a fish that i had ever laid eyes on this is absolutely a must go! 5 stars 🤟 will be back soon! 🔜

On my recent visit to Whitby I came across a restaurant down the pier called mister chips by the beach,so didn't know what to expect me and my friend got 2 large haddock And I always like the skin off,when we got our meal the haddocks were huge the fish was fried to perfection and chips were gorgeous too,also I work in the customer industry and always watch to see see how you get treated by waitresses and waiters and they didn't disappoint there attention to detail was second to none constantly going round tables asking if there food is alright if customers had a empty drink straight getting another drink ie top service
