Went for lunch on Tuesday, 5th Nov. Lovely lady showed me and hubby to a seat. We ordered fish & chip special, which included bread and tea for £18 each. It was quickly brought to us and was delicious. The batter on the fish was really good.

It’s 2024, the whole world understands how important it is to cater for allergies, gluten free is not that difficult if you think sensibly. Tiny restaurants in 3rd world countries can do it. Just saying you can eat chips is frankly unacceptable. There are reviews from 4 years ago saying the same. Do better. 4 people (2 disabled) so I put up with no choices and a tiny ridiculous basket of chips. £64 for 3 people to eat and 1 person to essentially watch. Very poor.

My partner and I are staying in Whitby for a few days for our anniversary and decided to have a fish dinner for our first night here. We landed on Terry's and were honestly a little blown away - this is the best seafood dinner I've had in years. We shared the seafood platter for 2; everything was cooked to perfection, the batter perfectly crispy, and the portions thoroughly filling. (Whitby gin goes down very smoothly too!) Would happily recommend this to anyone - the service was extremely efficient and friendly too.

So many fish and chips shops in Whitby, but we chose well. Terry's is cozy, very clean, very welcoming and with great food and service. Doesn't feel like the standard sit in chip shop. Individual booths; feels like a proper restaurant and an atmosphere to match. Staff perfectly dressed with an honest friendliness. Food first rate, which is obviously the main thing. Highly recommended.

Asked for the haddock special at £18 each and asked for the fish extra well done to get it crispy Included tea and bread and butter and mushy peas When it arrived it appeared ok but the batter inside was wet and soggy The fish inside was very good and I enjoyed it Later the waitress asked if everything was okay I told her about the soggy batter She said fine and walked off She returned with the bill and left it on the table Two minutes later the waiter asked if I was ready to pay to which I replied No , I’ll pay when we are finished drinking our tea It was as if we were being thrown out When I paid they again asked me if everything was okay to which I replied about the soggy batter Her response was that she would let someone know We left after having paid We’ve been many times before without an issue. They to keep up their standards even if they are busy

Visited Terry’s for lunch and have to say it was absolutely delicious! My husband and both ordered from the specials menu. I had dressed crab salad and chips, which was gorgeous. My husband ordered the seafood chowder… Oh My Goodness!!! Absolutely divine! Mussels, shrimp, prawns and haddock in a creamy sauce, I’d guess white wine, cream and whole grain mustard, probably the best lunch we’ve ever had. Staff were lovely, and we thought reasonably priced, especially considering the size of the portions

This was the first night of our holiday in Whitby and unfortunately everywhere was very full, but we spotted this restaurant that had empty tables, (on hindsight this should have been a clue) so we sat and both ordered fish and chips, because Whitby is famous for these right? I also ordered mushy peas. The meal arrived quickly but that was okay because they have a takeaway as well. The chips were barely warm and my fish batter was undercooked and mushy in places and this spoiled the taste of the fish, and the mushy peas were bland and had no flavour. Strike one for Whitby.

After being told to go here there and everywhere for fish and chips in Whitby, we settled on Terry's, looked clean and tidy, our Miniature schnauzer drank the water and we waited not very long for either a table or the meal. Well what can I say I had the special mixed fish platter, with a side of chips (which were unnecessary and were not finished) the fish was amazing, red hot, fresh and really soft with lots of flavour. Highly recommend, if I'm being ultra picky the tartar sauce would have done for me, but a bigger one instead of the spicy mayo, but like I say mega picky, and highly recommended

We visited Terrys Restaurant after taking a stroll down the pier to visit the lobster hatchery and amusements. We had a little wait at the door as the waitresses were busy however after 5 mins or so we were seated. We have a pram so was a bit of a struggle to get to the very back table as there was also other prams and a wheelchair, my only issue with this is that they were parked both sides which meant me bumping into a pram and a wheelchair. Nevertheless we managed, after making a couple of apologies along the way. The menus were already at the table which was great as we could select our food without having to wait for anyone to come and give us the menus, we did this straight away however had to wait a further 10 mins for someone to come and take our order. The waitress was great so we can live with a little wait….that being said from the moment of order to our food arriving was nearly an hour, which isn’t good as our baby had woken up and needed feeding and we had an hungry boy who was getting quite upset (Hangry). We could have understood if the restaurant was packed but it didn’t seem that busy to us. We did recognise a couple of other customers seemed to be in the same position as us. When the food arrived and although it came with no apology for delay it really was amazing, I had the surf and turf burger, which was cooked to perfection, my wife had the pulled pork burger and our boy had fish bits - Nothing but positive things to say about the food, although no one to say it too as no one came to our table to ask of everything was ok whilst we were there. We did feel a little rushed at the end as one of the waitresses kept coming to our booth and looking at our plates - This was purely due to their being a queue. Overall, I would go back as I can live with the waiting times but just not with a baby and a 4 year old. I would recommend the surf and turf burger to anyone.

Looks nice but that's all since it's refurb. Popped in as the magpie queue was down the street, ordered 2 haddock and chips with mushy peas husband was concerned about portion size by looking at what the waiting staff were carrying around and wondered if we should have a starter. I said oh no its haddock chips and mushy peas at 17 quid it'll be a decent portion well it wasn't I ordered coffee and white bread and butter, I think they forgot about us as the people behind who came in about 30 minutes after us actually got there bread with drinks my coffee was finished when the food came and I had to ask for the bread and there wasn't any left so had to have brown. Now the haddock and chips the haddock was just batter and the chips came in a stupid basket so tiny portions I asked for scraps when I got the bill I was charged for them for the first time in my 44 years on this planet 🤦♀️😬😂 Ordered scampi chips and mushy peas to takeaway for my son what a farce that was had to go in the takeaway part to pay and collect them even though the guy Saif he could bring the card reader through for me, anyhooooo got handed a tiny box and asked for 11 quid got in the car opened them no mushy peas which I was charged for and the most miserable and tiny looking portion of scampi and chips I've ever seen. Moral off the story is when everywhere else is busy but somewhere isn't there's a reason for that. Ripped off in the restaurant ripped off in the takeaway go elsewhere

We waited for 20 mins for fish and chips for 5 people which we couldn't understand as the fish and chip takeaway was empty but we waited patiently even though my wife's tea was cold by the time the order arrived. We were pretty shocked when we saw the tiny fish and chips delivered to our table which cost £15 per portion and we had ordered the regular size so can't imagine what the small portion is. Wow! By far, it is the worst restaurant I have been to in years. Incredibly disappointed after a lovely day in whitby, we decided to finish off the day in this restaurant. The fish was mostly batter, smallest fish we have seen (ordered the medium). The only choice was small or medium. Wouldn't like to imagine what the small fish looks like? Peas came halfway through eating. Chips tasted so greasy, all finger ends, Had to ask for the peas and some tartar sauce. Fish pie had no sauce in whatsoever, incredibly dry to eat. At the end of our meal, the waitress asked how it was, I politely told her it was not good, no reply was given! I would not want to ever visit this restaurant again. Take a wide berth!

We found Terry's whilst looking for somewhere dog friendly and being in Whitby I was keen to sample some fish and chips. I have to say I was delighted with our meal. I had haddock and chips and it was excellent. Very tasty and the haddock really tender with a lovely batter and perfect chips. My desert of apple crumble and ice cream was also very nice. My wife went fora chip butty which was huge, our son had battered sausage with a side of calamari and his girlfriend a lasagne. All reported plenty of flavour. The atmosphere was good with some chilled music playing and a really lovely touch was on the TV screen there was a film showing Whitby during the summer and the things the town has to offer. The service was friendly without being over the top and although the bill came in at £25 per head, that included drinks, desserts and sides so was not too bad, especially as it tasted superb. I would definitely recommend and would undoubtedly visit again.

First time visit on evening of Sun 8th Oct. The restaurant was bereft of diners, but looked warm and welcoming so thought lets give it a try. We were a party of six, plus our two dogs. It welcomes dogs so this was a real bonus. The choice was very good, and the service was equally attentive and very good. The meals arrived very quickly, all looking very well presented and more than adequate for a rewarding 'fish and chip supper'. By the time we had all finished, quite a number of other diners had joined us, and all seemed happy with the food and service. The meal came to £80ish for six which in my opinion is perfectly reasonable. The food was delicious and very tasty for all of us. My son who is a little more daring had mussels and thought they too were delicious, as he finished what was quite a sizable serving. And not to forget, thank you very much to the young ladies that served us, and so thank you Terry's for making our evening meal so enjoyable. Only once have I eaten a Magpies takeaway. I thought it was nothing special and now consider it overrated. I've had much better elsewhere, so as far as restaurants go, tryTerry's. I cannot vouch for portions, but it may well be cheaper and far better quality. Thank you.

We came in for fish & chips on a Saturday night, the actual fish was lovely but everything else was barely mediocre. The music was far too loud & when we asked for it turned down they did, but barely 20 minutes later it was turned back up. It didn’t help that the music choice was dreadful. The waitresses all looked about 12 year old & had about as much personality as a wet fish. Extremely expensive for a sea side chippy; £3.50 for a can of pop is daylight robbery and £12.50 for jumbo sausage & chips served on what can only be described as a tea plate is downright theft. Toilets left a lot to be desired. AVOID!

Terrys was very welcoming and dog friendly too , we had been trying to find somewhere to eat at lunchtime inside as it was a bit cold. Most of the places wouldn’t let dogs inside but Terrys did. The food was exactly what we wanted, haddock & chips special and scampi and chips were excellent and the service was friendly and efficient too.

My husband, dog, and I went to Whitby for the day. After looking for a dog friendly fish restaurant we came across Terrys and decided to give it a try It is spotlessly clean and had individual cubicle type seating which is excellent when you have a dog The young lady serving was friendly, and very attentive We both ordered cod and chips with mushy peas. It was really delicious I would highly recommend it

This restaurant ticked all the boxes for my wife, myself, our 4 friends and 4 dogs. The biggest surprise was that they welcomed dogs on carpeted areas (almost unheard of in the UK). The food was superb, the decor pleasant and modern, the staff efficient and attentive. The prices were reasonable and the menu extensive. None of us could find any faults and would all love to return.

We stopped in here when we were at Whitby goth weekend. I'm always nervous about eating out due to a milk allergy but it was nice to see they had a vegan menu, it did have limited items but it was still nice to see somewhere that wasn't going to turn me into the exorcist. The server was really helpful and so lovely, I didn't get his name but he was the only server in there. Once I told him about the milk allergy he said he'd inform the kitchen which put my mind at ease. The food was absolutely lush, I had the lentil Ragu and those garlic potatoes were unreal. My OH had the fish and chips and he said it was amazing, and the mushy peas were the best he'd had. The quality was fab and the prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be returning next goth weekend.

Great place to have fish and chips! The staff were welcoming and efficient! It’s also dog friendly too🐶! Our fish and chips came in no time and were freshly made and piping hot!! For £11.99, it came with bread & butter and a cup of tea. Will definitely return again!!

Overall, not a bad fish and chip shop! The vegetarian sausages were delightful and perfectly cooked. The mushy peas were slightly pale but seasoned nicely (not too salty!). However, I'm not giving 5 stars due to the fact that the chips weren't as crispy as I desired. Aside from the food, there was a tranquil atmosphere which was enjoyable ☺️

It was a busy day for the chippy. But the food wasn't good. The chips were greasy. The fish was very very very small, the fish was all greasy batter. They were not cheap either. First and last time.
