Fish Box Whitby in Scarborough

Not the best. Th fish had skin on one side and the meat was very thin. Much better options in Whitby.

We visited Whitby with our dog so had been looking for some time for a dog friendly place to have fish and chips. The Fish Box offered outdoor seating and the weather was pleasant so we chose to eat there. We were not disappointed, the staff were friendly and the fish and chips were excellent. We both had haddock and chips with mushy peas and for £24 which included a soft drink we were impressed with the quality of the meal. Service was quick also.

Lovely fresh fish , clean and great value fish and chips. Would definitely recommend. Will be back when next in Whitby . .

Good food, but pricey and scruffy

Good value for money! Portion sizes were massive. Staff were friendly & helpful! The haddock was amazing! We will definitely come back in our next visit to Whitby

Absolutely rubbish! Chips weren’t chippy chips and the price for 2 small fish and chips, 2 sauces with 2 drinks came to £21. Absolutely SCANDALOUS! The chips were also under cooked. I felt absolutely robbed! Won’t be returning. It’s no wonder it was dead in there. Should be ashamed of yourselves charging that ridiculous amount of money for something I could’ve got for £13 down at my local. Really put me off going to Whitby tbh

Came to whitby and decided to have fish and chips for dinner and came upon fish box. Ordered fish and chips with a selection of sides and are inside. The fish was cooked from fresh to perfection and the batter was perfect, The sides were very tasty and the peas were cooked as they should be. Enjoyed the meals throughly and can say they were some of the best fish and chips we have tasted! Will definitely return to eat next time in Whitby. Will recommend to family and friends.

We always go to the Fish Box when in Whitby. Chips are cooked to perfection and they have beans as well as peas. Some plant based options too when ch is a nice touch. See you again soon.

Excellent tasting fish and chips, decent portions and price. Shame about the customer service. No smiles, not helpful. So perhaps better as a takeaway.

Found this takeaway on the last day my holiday, the food was excellent the fishcake and curry sauce (spicy) were superb the best chippy in whitby

Popped into this great little fish and chip shop whilst on a day out in Whitby. Super friendly staff and really great food, at really good prices too.

Really disappointed with quality of the chips given the high rating given by others. When I arrived at 5pm on a Saturday it was empty and the staff were stood around waiting. My takeaway order was ready quickly but the chips were a mixture of dry and hard/undercooked ones. We threw away about three quarters of them as they just weren’t very nice. Will give somewhere else a try next time.

Me and my wife have had the takeaway fish and chips from here They were very good Pity we can’t get them like that where we live in Scotland We’re from Yorkshire and miss fish and chips so bloody much

Just chips and curry sauce ordered for £4.40. Good quality and amount provided. Excellent curry sauce, recommend.

Tried fish and chips for the first time and absolutely fell in love. 🩷 Staff were very polite and helpful. Also they serve vegan , so must try. ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Love whitby I always get my fish and chips from Fish box not badly priced always lovely and you don't wait long especially nice on a warm day and you can sit outside

Best thing I can say is they were quick. Other than that, soggy old chips, more batter than fish, crabby service (to be fair it was just prior to closing and the staff were probably exhausted). Not cheap either - AU$45 equivalent for 2. We ate outside, binned most of it. Won’t be back. Must be better in Whitby!

Absolute rip off 9.90 for a haddock and chips which is basically a kids portion, burnt haddock, all batter no fish, will not be coming back!!

Been coming here for over a decade. Was always consistently good. Today had small cod and chips. The small cod was very small and very dry

You are slightly spoilt for choice in Whitby when it comes to fish & chips (and every other kind of food for that matter), we had been told to go to Trenchers, but seemingly so had half of Whitby. The queue was massive and we had two highly irritable toddlers in tow so we decided to get a takeaway at Fishbox, seeing as the weather was incredibly nice. The only downside was the ordering, there was someone on the till taking orders, as well as some screens in the shop where you ordered from, which is great, but it’s a small shop and it just all felt a bit chaotic. It got busy and there isn’t really anywhere to stand to wait and once you’ve got your order, you have to fight your way back out of the shop. That said, the food was absolutely incredible, I couldn’t fault it. The batter on the fish was just perfection. The only thing I would say is that the portions are massive, we could’ve easily shared between two. There’s a wait for the food but most things are cooked fresh and as I said, it’s absolutely worth the wait and slight hassle of ordering. Will definitely return.

Very tasty fish, chips and mushy peas. Freshly cooked fish, meaty with crispy batter and lovely mushy peas too. Cooked fresh to order. Did not have to wait long. Sat outside on a very clean bench/table. Everything seemed to be biodegradable as far as packaging and wooden forks. Very good! Well done!

Good place, I always go for a battered sausage and chips, surprisingly cheap and delicious. Wish they sold cream soda along with their other drinks though... If you order not close to meal time, the food might be a little less hot than I'd wish, but if you keep it safely close to lunch it'll be fine.

Very nice and good quality fish and chips. Has a few tables outside to sit and orders are quite quickly dealt with using a touch screen ordering service.

Weddy and George are very welcoming food was excellent, plenty of seating inside or out, its not cheap but if you pay cheap you get cheap everything is fresh cooked and the scampi is the best I've ever tasted and well worth it. I'll be going back again Please give it a try it's well worth it 👌. You can even buy food and walk a couple of minutes and sit on the harbour to eat. I have just Sean a picture of the menu the prices have gone up since that photo but still worth every penny

On the open top bus ride different establishments were pointed out for their fish and chips. But when we looked at the prices at one of these places, £16 for fish and chips, we decided to look elsewhere. Found a place called Fish Box opposite the Co-op, good size and tasty cod and chips for around £9. You order and pay on a touchscreen, then go up and wait for your order. There is seating inside and outside.

OK but there looked to be much better options. All our fish were at least 60% batter and the kids fish bits were more like 80% batter.

Stopped by here to sample the famous Whitby whole tail scampi and fish and chips. Cooked fresh to order and delicious, decided to eat it on the quayside, though there is plenty of nice clean indoor seating.

Had wonderful Haddock and Chips yesterday, perfectly cooked and the haddock was excellent. Being from Grimsby I love a good chippy. 👌👍👍😋

Brilliant! Ordered food and sat in with my wife and 3 yesr old, portions were good size and prices fair. The staff were great, interacted with my son and very friendly. Food was brilliant, all tasty and piping hot.

The food was amazing! We passed lots of fish and chip shops in Whitby with massive queues, so we were dubious, but with a hungry 3 year old, we couldn’t wait. We were not disappointed! The fish and chips were huge and fresh, and the scampi the tastiest ever! Portions sizes were huge and reasonable prices for the size! Don’t pass this place by! Xx

Freshly cooked to order even though it was a busy Saturday in Whitby. Proper fishcakes, not the usual orange ones you get in most chippys. Proper Mushy peas as well. Good value and very tasty. Not greasy like most places with freshly cooked fish

First time visiting and very nice food, cooked fresh! My wife had the Chicken and Mushroom pie and I had sausage and chips. My wife really enjoyed the pie and the sausage was freshly cooked. We both really enjoyed the chips. We used their self service EPOS screen to order our food and found it to not be very user friendly. But I observed the level of service that was given to people ordering at the counter and it was great so can't fault the service. Polite, friendly staff. Reasonable price when you consider other options in the area, also perfectly situated to bring in those customers that have just had a long drive and are you hungry!

With a lot of choice for fish and chips in Whitby, we chose fish box because it was affordable and appears to be very popular. The decor is nicely done and there is sufficient seating both inside and out. My wife and i decided to sit outside as we visited on a warm afternoon, it's just a shame that fish box doesn't overlook the harbour. Sadly the main road can be quite noisy and my dogs were put off by the busy traffic going past. Staff are very pleasant and you can order either at the counter or self serve machines, which means you won't be waiting around to place an order. Staff are very accommodating, I even saw a man pull up outside in a van and they went out to take his order. We have been to the fish box a couple of years ago, however the food tasted even better on this visit. My wife and I both had cod and chips and for the price you will struggle to find a better place to eat. Shame the tomato ketchup costs 30p for a small sachet, I would love to see this be complimentary. In summary I would recommend Fish box to others visiting Whitby, the food is very fresh and you will receive a warm welcome.

Popped in here for fish chips and nuggets for our son, never been before. Firstly lightening fast service! Red hot freshly cooked food! Proper chunks of chicken amazing fillets of fish and gorgeous sauces! Very happy and would return again l. Was slightly greasy but that was almost definitely due to how fresh it was served! Sat outside to eat with the dog! Tip... you can download the app and order but tbh it was busy today and the service wad exceptional thank you! We will be back

This is the best fish and chip shop in whitby. While on hoilday I visited many cafés some have very high profiles but did not meet up to expectations. The fish box is a small cafe/ take away near the harbour the food was amazing....

The cafe seemed a little small but there were a couple of tables outside. Very clean and presentable inside. They have signs up saying service might be slow as they cook fresh and as soon as I ordered I was told 5min wait, which was about right. Food was amazing. Chips were really nice and the steak pie was quality. Not the cheapest place but it's right on the water front and I wouldn't say it's overly expensive, just what you expect to pay for the location. Pie, chips, curry and a can of irn bru was £8.80. someone else got the fish while I was there and it looked delicious. The batter was golden so next time I think I'll give the fish a try. Well worth a visit here if your in Whitby. I'd definitely come back.

We visited at lunchtime and found that this fish and chip shop had an ordering point like you get in McDonalds (i.e. you press the screen to order and pay) never seen that in a fish and chip shop before ! Can't say it added...

The service was excellent, the food was delectable, best chippy in whitby.

You have to use the app inshore to order it can be a bit tricky but we soon figured it out. Can get very busy at times.

Was there on Friday. Whitby was very busy. So we chose Fishbox as it was near the car park. Had two fish and chips meal deals with curry sauce. There were two curry sauces- fruity and Irish. Totally loved our choice of the Irish curry sauce. It was amazing, tastey and spicey but not too hot. In fact I am only on here to see if you guys would send out a couple of pots to Milton Keynes!!🤣🤣 Thank you for great service and tastey food. I don't even eat fish but it was so fresh, white and flufly, my partner kept feeding me bits! Delicious!

Went there on a day trip to Filey and would definitely eat there again! Staff were polite and helpful and the food was the best fish and chips I've had in years. Cost is very reasonable and no queues! Well done guys x

Our favourite place for fish and chips. We had a large order so were given a beeper to wait for our order. We all ate fish and chips and they were delicious, hot and fresh and as always they weren't dripping in grease despite being fresh from the frier. Unfortunately a bit of a target for seagulls (but where isn't in Whitby), so please get rid of your rubbish from the table. We'll be back before our long journey home xXx

There wasn't even any salt and vinegar out for anyone to get. Food took too long and people ordered after us and got there food first(we only asked for 3 chips) there was loads of chips left and they didn't even bother and just stood there.

Ordering mostly done on a screen supose this is due to covid but the screen is easy to use and easy to pay .If you are struggling with the screen the lady will either help or you can order through her given a ticket and your meal number is called out very efficient great tasting food freshly cooked .This is a must have when visiting whitby Fish And Chips Great 👍

Was a lovely clean place!! I no its whitby so prices going to be little higher, nicely cooked fish n plenty of chips, Maybe change the bum with chip butty, not sure about the 2 different curry's, McDonald's style ordering system but not all the menu on there! Would go again 👍
