Leeds Fisheries in Scarborough

We called in for takeaway cod & chips whilst passing. The fish was cooked to order, the batter was crispy & not too thick & the chips were perfect, freshly made. Portion sizes were spot on, can't fault it at all.

The food tasted nice but very very small. The upsetting part of this is we have come to this fish and chips restaurant many times over the years for takeaway and sit in and on this occasion we sat in. We asked the waitress whether the juice was fresh orange juice that we had asked for as it tasted strange and very watered down (more like cordial). They looked at us like we were speaking a different language. So when it came to the bill we asked again and then all the staff started yelling at us and telling us it was fresh and when they finally showed us the carton it was an orange drink not fresh fruit juice. They even yelled at us saying 'don't come back' this was very upsetting to find a place we enjoyed could now have such awful spoken staff. What ever happened to the customer is always right. They did admit that they couldn't get the fresh fruit juice as there was none at the cash and carry, so please tell me why they argued about it when they knew it was the wrong thing. We ended up paying for who knows what as we never got the bill and just wanted it to end so paid and left.

We are currently staying at Cayton Bay and decided to take the bus into Scarborough We came across this lovely and quaint little fish and chip shop, which also had a restaurant area for you to eat inside. Their menu offered a variety of food and all at a reasonable cost. Whilst 3 of us had fish and chips, my two children chose sausage and chips, plus chips and gravy. Everything was cooked to order, and the batter on the fish was outstanding. The food was absolutely gorgeous, and the portion sizes were plentiful. I did ask for better forks at the cost of 5p each, which I was happy to pay for, but a lovely gentleman had told me it didn't matter, which was incredibly kind of him. I did hear a slight argument upon us leaving the shop by another female in regards to the gentleman not charging me 25p for the 5 plastic forks, which was slightly embarrassing. Overall, this is a lovely chippy. With warm and welcoming friendly staff and I would recommend a visit 😊

Visited today and it wasn’t very welcoming. The staff had right faces on them and kept shaking heads at each other like it was a burden to serve me. They then served our food unwrapped even though it was takeaway no bag either and when we got to eat our food the trays were thick lined in white grease. Chips tasted like they were cooked in week old fat Not amazing and wouldn’t return to this place.

ppl who is working in this shop all useless . especially older woman behind the counter .as soon as you pop in they make you unwelcoming.never mind..

Best Cod and chips I've had in a long while and no where near as expensive as the sea front takeaways! Get a takeaway and sit on the benches at the back to watch the boats coming in and out! Would highly recommend!

Gravy was amazing. Chips were very nice.

Don't expect service with a smile. Spent 25 quid when it was clearly dead so thought they might appreciate the business, but oh no. It was as if we were disturbing them.

Brilliant little Chippy with café upstairs. Good food & freshly cooked all reasonably priced. Two pensioners specials less than 20 quid all in. Just what we wanted. We will definitely visit again.

My wife and I had lunch there in Sep 2022 ... dine in ... in the upstairs cafe. Cafe has an awesome view of the south bay and the Spa ... it's charming and clean. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Fish n chips were excellent ... so were the mushy peas, bread and butter and tea. Overall excellent experience. I'm just disappointed that the length of our stay in Scarborough did not allow a return visit. Highly recommended !!

Excellent service and first class fish and chips.

Happened upon Leeds Fisheries as we were exploring away from the sea front for a fish and chip shop for our lunch. There were 8 of us in our party and thought we would struggle to get in and sit together. However, the lovely lady taking orders in the upstairs restaurant managed to find us a 6 and a 2. The haddock and chips were beautiful, served with a very short wait and excellent value for money. Will certainly be returning here on our next visit to Scarborough.

Had the pensioner special meal, how lovely the whole experience was , lovely waitress, lovely meal very good value and a lovely sea view 😊

Haddock off , first bite i could smell it , removed the batter and this confirmed that this was not fresh, passing it off as a special, nope it was OFF needs binning, staff member in back belching , shame nice place .. wouldn’t recommend at all

Staff were nice, but I ordered chios and gravy, I received chips and curry sauce. I hate curry sauce, went in the bin.

The worst fish and chips I have ever had the displeasure of eating. Oredered 1 haddock and chips and cod and chips, the chips were luke warm and soggy, the batter on the fish was so dark and burnt it was inedible, the inside of the batter was raw and sloppy and the fish inside was not cooked and cold, the haddock actually did smell off and left a sour taste in your mouth, the whole lot went into the bin, there are plenty of other fish and chip places so please use one of them, avoid wasting your money here, if I could give it a zero star rating I would. Unfortunately ate from there Saturday 16th July.

Best fish and chips in Scarborough! Having tried a lot of the chippies here over the years this is the one we keep coming back to. Always cooked fresh. Friendly staff.

My wife and I had a large takeaway cod each on Saturday lunch. Given that it was freshly prepared and the batter was fine the cod was extremely disappointing. Greyish in colour and overpriced. Won't bother again.

Large cod was fantastic cooked to order from takeaway fish was cooked spot on the batter was really nice. The chips were cooked really well too . Very nice friendly staff highly recommend

Fish excellent, mushy peas too dry and starting to congeal into lumps. Fish batter was the best I’ve had for a long time, excellent, staff we’re very talkative and pleasant, place was clean and well organised.

Dined with my wife, her brother and our nephew. We were all delighted with our fish and chips. Cooked to order, they came to table absolutely perfect and with hardly any wait at all. Great batter on the fish and nice,firm colourful chips. Excellent portion sizes. Well priced too. Well done. We will be back!

Went for a day break from lockdown. Been past this place loads of times without going in. Big mistake.The staff are really friendly and extremely attentive. The prices are really good, much better than on the seafront, as is the food.Because of COVID we could only get a takeaway. A small fish and chips, salt and vinegar put on chips first, then on the fish on top. All nicely wrapped, then into a small outside public seating area overlooking the sea, which is right by the chippy.Everything was cooked to perfection and the taste, I am salivating just thinking about it. Absolutely superb. Will definitely go back.

Just eaten here. Fish was dry,as were chips and no option to pay by debit card. Very disappointed as fish on coast is usually ultra fresh.

Myself and my daughter stopped off here for lunch last week. It really was the hi light of our break to Scarborough. We ate upstairs in the restaurant was small but quaint. Lovely fresh clean decor with lovely coastal views. The food was very tasty and high standard great presentation - the best chips I have tasted in years. Lovely clean toilet as well.

I went in today and used their small upstairs cafe.It only has about 6 tables but.boasts a stunning view on one side over the bay,and on the other you can watch the main street.I ordered cod and chips plus tea etc.It arrived superbly cooked both fish and chips crisp.Lightly battered and not soggy fish.The teapot was supplied with spare water for topping up and a large amount of milk to go with it.Cafe is very clean and the staff were very good.There is a takeaway downstairs and I was impressed to see a member of staff help a pensioner take a portion over the road to their partner. Not many places would do that.It is also situated in an area with some good quirky shops so worth seeking out.Pensioners specials done too and allergies catered for.

Visited on Sunday 25 August with my brother. We had a Fish Special each. The fish was cooked to perfection with excellent crispy batter the way it should be. The chips were just as good a more quality chip would be hard to find. We ate in the upstairs restaurant and the service was as good as the food. The overall cost was amazing for the quality of food and service on offer. It represented good old Yorkshire value for money. I would recommend anyone looking for a traditional seaside fish and chip meal to visit this establishment. You will not be disappointed.

we were in Scarborough for the day, we decided to have fish and chips but in a restaurant. restaurant is situated upstairs, only small but cosy, and nicely decorated. a lovely young lady served us. we sat in the window overlooking the bay. the fish was very nice and tasty and the chips were lovely, cooked to order which is very good. The toilet is situated up the stairs and is immaculate.

Slightly off the beaten track but with a fantastic view over the bay, this has to be one of the best fish & chip cafes in Scarborough.

After visiting one of the "better known" fish restaurants in Whitby the day before and being very disappointed, Leeds Fisheries was amazing... being a Yorkshire girl and having high standards for Fish and Chips, they definitely stepped up to the mark! The fish was so fresh it was wonderful and the batter was exactly how it should be... light and crispy... The restaurant itself is upstairs and there is a wonderful picture window looking out over the beach... the Take away part of the building is downstairs and there are plenty of benches and places to sit outside if you prefer your chips in a wrapper... Staff were very friendly and professional... couldn't fault the experience at all... well worth the walk up from the Front...

Fish was okay but chips very poor quality as was the coffee. Ketchup was poor and milk had bits floating in it. Not impressed.

We travel here from Leeds especially to eat here, it's the highlight of our day out. We always receive a warm welcome and a friendly chat. The Haddock is amazing, so tasty and the chips are by far the nicest I've ever tasted. I can't fault this establishment at all. You'd be a fool to pass it by!

After a long walk with the dog came across this fish and chip resturant near the Scarborough sea front. Very friendly welcome and dogs allowed. Great view overlooking the beach and sea. The fish and chips were cooked to order we had haddock and it was fantastic. Well presented and plenty of, we had it with bread and butter and tea could not fault it. Would greatly recommend.

Well having looked around Scarborough and all its fish and chip shops we came across this traditional chippy not to busy just right for sit down or takeaways cod was beautiful melted in your mouth chips were well cooked and tasty all freshly cooked and hot staff friendly and very pleasant definitely worth a visit

Just which fish and chip shop/cafe do you choose in Scarborough. We wanted fish and chips, to sit down inside and not to spend a fortune. By chance we came across Leeds Fisheries just a little back from the hustle and bustle of South Bay and noticed a seating area upstairs. We got what we wanted plus friendly service and a view over the sea in spotless surroundings.

We were recommended here on our recent visit to Scarborough. We arrived around half 12 at the take out and there was only one couple in front of us. We placed our order and the fish was cooked to order so we knew it was fresh. Very tasty fish and chips and very reasonably priced. It was £5.60 for cod and chips which I thought was great especially in a seaside town

Upstairs there is a quaint little cafe. We enjoyed our delicious fish and chips with spectacular views over Scarborough Beach. Will definitely come again. Auntie and Uncle loved it.

Vile! My family and I always used to visit here but after our visit today NEVER again Your staff and rude, ignorant and look a little unwashed to be fair! As for the fish and chips, poor at best

When I walked in I was greeted by an old hag. I had to wait for 30+mins for a table, the table was EXTREMELY sticky too! Eventually she wiped the table but gave me a dirty look! I felt like getting my Nan to slap her up (the staff member was Janice)!!!! I ordered a fish platter without shrimp, apparently it didn’t come with shrimp but guess what was covered-in shrimp???? MY FISH PLATTER!!!

This is our umpteenth visit however the 1st time we have eaten in the small restaurant upstairs. Did not disappoint the service was very good & the view from the window was stunning. However the star of the show was the beautiful fish & chips cooked in beef dripping, there is no other way these should be cooked really crispy batter, with moist, tender, flaky fish (cod) accompanied with lovely flavoursome chips - these will take some beating!

Visited this establishment as the one we had chosen via trip advisor rankings was closed. We were not disappointed. The haddock was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I would have preferred the chips to be a little darker in colour but they did taste better than they looked. We intended to visit again the following day before leaving Scarborough but they were closed.

A small shop run by owner and wife? serving freshly cooked fish to order, great crispy batter and very good price. Strongly recommend.

This is a 100% must visit. Hidden gem. The fish is out of this world honestly from the moment we walked in to finishing was amazing. We as a family went for tea. Go upstairs in the air down bit the view of the harbour is beautiful. You get lots of tea and very good size portions. The staff bent over backwards. Must visit. 5 stars most definitely.

Went for lunch at this fish and chip cafe when visiting Scarborough, amazing fish and chips massive portions we had a pensioners special £7.50 for fish and chips, tea , and bread and butter large pot of tea,the cafe is spotlessly clean and the waitress was lovely.

Lovely fish 🐠 and chips 🍟 with gravy, bread 🍞 and butter with two pops cost £21. The skin is left on, crunchy batter, delicious 😋

Me and my partner have been to this place everytime we've been to Scarborough, the first time we went, we shared a large fish and chips, the fish was absolutely stunning and amazing, the chips were absolutely outstanding, if you want a good place to eat fish and chips, Leeds Fisheries is THE best place to go to.

Stop here for your fish and chips, pies, etc. When you have them there are seats nearby where you can eat you food with a view down into the bay.

We visit Scarborough several times a year (from Leeds) and have tried most of the F & C shops, after all its one of the highlights of a visit to the sea side together with ice cream, fresh crab, rock, and candy floss and the rest, but the Leeds Fisheries is by far and away the worst we have had in Scarborough or anywhere else for that matter.The batter was so thick and glutinous it was inedible. We brought this to the attention of the owners and we received a lukewarm apology, and an admission of guilt, but nothing more than that, no offer of a refund, no offer of a credit note for our next visit, no offer of a fresh fish with cooked, crispy batter. Leeds Fisheries F&C;'s are a little cheaper than some, you get what you pay for, give it a wide birth would be my advice, and stick to the best, you know what I mean mentioning no names.

Always get our fish from here when we visit, wouldn't consider anywhere else, there is another fish shop over the road that is cheaper but I carnt pass a comment as ive never been.

We always used to go here and eat in and it was always very nice . Visited last year and didnt even order , other diners were saying how awful the food was so we walked out. Went again 30th june 2018 and it was back to how it used to be. The haddock was really nice as was childs burger but scampi wasnt nice. We will probably go in again if our favourite fish and chip cafe is closed again as it was on armed forces day

We visited Scarborough on a Monday afternoon whilst holidaying in North Yorkshire. I used to be given a treat of Fish & Chips here as a child on family holidays, so went to see if they are as nice as I remember - gorgeous! Sat outside with a takeaway as we have a dog with us, so needed to be wary of the greedy seagulls, but I guess they have great taste in Fish & Chips! Cod and chips to die for and very good prices.

These guys are the best this our favorite without any doubt everything here is the best the service the food the atmosphere.

This is one of the best fish and chip shops by far. When I come to Scarborough fish and chips from here is a must. The fish tastes fantastic. The cafe upstairs is lovely and clean and has lovely views. The staff are lovely and helpful. Everything is just perfect.

Whenever I visit Scarborough I have to visit this chippy. If you're walking from the front past the joke shop and up towards the shops it the chip shop half way up the hill that occurs the end of a building nearest the seating overlooking the bay. To summarise, it's a proper chippy with everything done just as you'd expect it. Friendly staff and fabulous food. What else I there? If you're in Scarborough then look it out and I bet you're hooked!!

Went here recently in the cafe whilst on holiday the staff was helpful even Stored my walk downstairs for me as the cafe was upstair and wasn't able to carry it. the fish and chips was delicious and very good value for money definitely will be coming back again..

Lovely little cafe with windows facing out to the sea. Small and nicely decorated inside but up quite steep stairs. The food was delicious and freshly cooked with plenty on the plate to feed a good appetite! Coffee was a little disappointing as it was a bit weak and no choice other than flat white but no problem. Service good. Not a cheap eat but worth it for the view and to shelter from the cold wind!!

These were the best fish and chips we've had in a long time. The cafe upstairs is clean and airy with views over the bay. The food was fantastic - proper chips and lovely batter on the Cod. The staff were friendly and the whole place was clean and tidy.

Good portion size. Really looked forward to fish and chips. I was not dissapointed. Very tasty. Only downfall was we had to wait while it cooked. That said we knew it was fresh.
